When I read interview transcripts and people say they weren't asked for their documents, I always find it very hard to believe, until it happened to me this morning.
6:30am appointment, Lagos Visa Office, Window 6
VO: Good Morning
Me: Good Morning Sir
VO: Why are u going to d US
Me: To obtain a master's degree in Public Health
VO: How did u know about d sch?
Me: Did some extensive research online via usnews.com and Google.com, and narrowed my search to my sch
VO: Why this sch?
Me: This was where I hijacked the interview, gave him a brief lecture on the public health concentration/specialization areas my school offers and how it aligned with my career aspirations, integrated it with implementation of that specific knowledge and skill in the Nigerian healthcare system.
and convinced him why my school offers the ideal academic structure. VO then cuts in while I was talking, and said those magic words....visa approved.

No documents where asked for, not even bank statements and tests results, and to think my folder couldn't contain my documents, had to put them in a bag.

The key learning here is, prepare yourself, be confident, answer intelligently, that way you don't give the VO an opportunity to find a fault.
Above all, and most importantly...say a word of prayer, you have no idea how much it will do.

Hello house, I ve been following this tread for a long time, nice job everyone, I am applying for a school in the US for bachelor's degree, am 22, and my waec is 2008, my sponsor is my aunt husband, he own a company and I ll be using his companies account....i am a little concerned about what to say if am asked what I ve been doing since 2008....truth is I dropped out of uniben in my 300 level when my dad passed, things got difficult..do u think the US embassy will buy this or should I tell them something different...your opinion is gladly needed...please don't discourage me.

Your age has nothing to do with this and your 2008 result is not bad. But telling a VO u dropped out of school due to financial constraint might be somehow. I suggest it better you let the VO knows that you have been living with your Aunt right from time and her husband has been sponsoring you.

You will have to convince the VO that you have been doing something reasonable since 2008 to better your chances like taking computer classes and maybe working in your area of study you going to take in the US.

Gurus here will still help out with more advise.

U can apply from anywhere,doesn't really mean u must go back to Nigeria and besides u have a better chance of getting the visa outside Nigeria from my experience and what I have seen from others experience also.

The problem is that in lieu of your Redeemer's University transcript you submitted a WES course-by-course analysis. The Graduate School accepts ICAP, but not course-by-course analyses. In a previous email, you mentioned that you had an ICAP evaluation. Please email that evaluation directly to me, and I will send it to the Graduate School to complete your application."

Btw, I paid for WES ICAP course by course analysis and it has been evaluated since December last year.

Thanks! The school did three things
(a) waived my tuition (which is the bulk of the cost anyway) and
(b) they will be giving me taxable stipends every month and
(c) they gave me a health insurance plan

I have made lots of enquiries both from the school admin and from some ex-classmates now in the US; and I realize that after subtracting the tax, and subtracting cost of rent, transport and feeding I may not have more than $100 or $150 left each month but I'm thankful because it's even worse if you don't get any funding at all (since you can't work with an F1). So, all my basic needs will be met, but I don't expect to be "rich" in any way... however that's the normal life of a PhD student.

That's pretty cool then... thumbs up.... You ve got little or no problem with any statement of account for visa interview then.

Do some other nairalanders good by posting the sch info here... We ve got some fellas who are also looking forward to opportunities like this.

Hello Visa Officer and good people of Nairaland. I've just been admitted with full funding for a PhD program in a high ranked U.S. school (direct PhD from BSc, without a masters) so I want to apply for an F1 visa.

My concern is that I've never been out of Nigeria before and I think I'll find it hard to prove that I have any strong ties here (my whole family is here but I really nothing of financial value here).

Further, I've earned little or nothing since I completed my BSc because I've been studying a lot independently (and that may be one reason I got full funding from the school). My bank statements can only show enough to get a flight ticket. The school is covering every other expense guaranteed for five years.

I am really concerned about getting this visa because the PhD research is an opportunity that I've waited for all my life. My dream is to return to Nigeria to lecture at a federal university.

A friend said fully funded PhD admissions, especially at a high profile university are never rejected. Is this true? I have searched and it seems to be true.

Do you think the fact that I've never left Nigeria before will count against me?

Is there anything I need to be wary of? Do you have any advice for me?

Congratulations on you fully funded admission.

You have no problem at all with your virgin passport even those who are going for BSC or masters without funding were granted visa without travel experience.

If you can't get a smiling account , I suggest you use your statement of account then other than do what might put you in trouble.

But can I ask this? Is your school providing you accommodation, feeding, upkeep, transportation and all other expenses? If your answer is no, I suggest you think about this very well cos living in the US can b a bit difficult when you have no cash to cater for your basic needs, most especially for that kind of your account.

Note that am not trying to discourage your dream, just telling you the basic truth. We ve got some fellas in here who are currently enjoying a fully funded study as well, you can ask them how life is still. Digest this and make a wise decision. Goodluck

Hello House. Pliz am 32 years old with 2nd class upper and OND (upper credit). Though, i graduated in 2009. What is are the chances of getting student vise to study in any of the university in usa.

Nothing is impossible though. But the best age for undergraduate course is 25years or less. In between what has stopped you from getting your HND or even a DE to a university since 2009 when u have a good result?

If you really want to study in the US, my advise is find your way into the US with let's say B1/B2 visa, then you change your status to F1 when you get here. Goodluck
