discusant:
Buhari is living behind times in his delusion for Nigeria.

See what @Aminu Sa'ad Beli wrote on his wall. Moving forward I will start promoting peaceful separation for healthy development.
------------------

SEPARATION IS NOT ABOUT WAR, IT HAS PEACEFUL ASPECT.

In 1776, the USA split from the UK
In 1830 Belgium separated from the Netherlands
In 1965, Singapore split off from Malaysia
in 2002, East Timor got split off from Indonesia
In 1921, Ireland split off from the United Kingdom, and (possibly in the future) there will be secession of Scotland.
In 1944, Iceland split from Denmark with remarkable ease.
In 1905 Norway split from Denmark
In 1905, Norway and Sweden also peacefully split ways. One got the car. the other got the kids.

In 1947, the British India Dominion was partitioned into India n Pakistan. In 1971, Bangladesh secceeded from Pakistan.
In 1992-93, the two parts of Czechoslovakia agreed to each go their own way. Thus were born the Czech Republic and Slovakia after what's been named the “Velvet Divorce”., About the same time, another kind of separation occurred, of course, in Yugoslavia. This one led to a bloodshed.

in 1965, Singapore split from Malaysia for a variety of reasons, including religious (Malaysia is majority Muslim, Singapore isn't), ethnic/racial (Singapore has a very large majority Chinese population) and concerns over the Malaysian Bumiputra policy, which was (and is) basically a form of "Affirmative Action" for Muslim Malaysians - who make up the majority population in Peninsular Malaysia.

Ethiopia and Eritrea

Sudan and South Sudan are now separate countries

USSR is now broken down into several countries.

I see separation as an avenue for a healthy competition for development as the case of Singapore and Malaysia, India and Pakistan, Norway/Denmark/Switzerland.

In the case of Nigeria, I am sensing a healthy competitive development among the original component part, the North/West/East each making useful progress while competing with the others.

It is not about war after all there is nothing wrong for one to decide he is no longer comfortable with the union and therefore want to opt out.

LETS GIVE PEACE A CHANCE AND SEPARATE HONORABLY.

This is worth sharing over and over again...

British named them Burma. They rejected it, restructured & renamed themselves Myanmar.

-British named them Upper Volta, but they rejected it, restructured and renamed themselves Burkina Faso - Land of Incorruptible People.

-British named them Gold Coast, they rejected it, restructured and renamed themselves Ghana.

-British named them Southern Rhodesia. They rejected it, restructured and renamed themselves Zimbabwe.

-British named them Northern Rhodesia. They rejected it, restructured and renamed themselves Zambia.

-British named them Tanganyika. They rejected it, restructured & renamed themselves Tanzania.

-Germans named them colony of South West Africa. They rejected it, restructured and renamed themselves Namibia.

-France named them Dahomey. They rejected it, restructured and renamed themselves Benin.

-Belgium named them Zaire. However, they rejected it, restructured & renamed themselves Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

-Britain named a bunch of people - Nigeria. They rather kill to preserve it than restructure and give themselves a befitting new name.

"It is only an animal that bears the name that is given to it by his enemy" (Proverb).
SEPARATION IS NOT ABOUT WAR, IT HAS PEACEFUL ASPECT? Yet your examples includes separations brought about by war and periods of physical conflicts. The only true example that you have that mimics that of Nigeria is South Sudan and look at them now, still bloodier than ever. Whether we like it or not, if we must separate it won't come by mere words, risk it all or go home......Till then, all this na childsplay!

What's 28 million for people worth billions? When you have that much money, your thinking evolves beyond what common folks can phantom. You start thinking about the stars, existence, supernaturals. You stop reading history and story books and want to see things for yourself. The chance to see space, up close and personal is something 99.9% of the humans will never achieve, this is the type of goals billionaires aim for grin.

Besides if you claim to protect free speech, why censor some and allow others ,the essence of free speech is defeated of you will silence one voice in other to allow another voice . It is wrong , let both of us express ourselves..... hypocrisy is what Jack did
Firstly, he was a presidential aspirant and is often associated with the government in one way or the other, perception is reality as far as the outside world is concerned. Next, you don't know shin shin about freedom of speech. Freedom of speech is not freedom against consequences. There are limits to everything in life, you cannot infringe on people's rights, cause them pain or put their existence in danger and call it freedom of speech. Without limits, anyone can go online and start bashing gays, start bashing people based on ethnicity, color and so on.

The more popular you are, the more your words carry weight and the more scrutiny you receive. This is how it works in the real world, this is why popular folks have publicists and speech/content writers. In a world where one wrong sentence can start a war(Israel/Palestine, North and South Korea, Russia/Ukraine, USA/Russia), should national and international figures be allowed to set the world on fire?

Social media apps say they protect free speech but clamp down on other people's opinion that do not align with the political views of the owner.....where is the freedom of speech?

I hope you will still be this happy when other nigerians decide to spoil the app of someone you like just because of his views.
As a government official or government, you don't get to give opinions, opinions have consequences, opinions gets people killed. Furthermore, you think this all about Twitter alonehuh They will run their rules all over your life. They banned crytos already. Little time, they will ban every avenue through which you can express yourself. You'll be put in box with no voice to speak. This is a military era with democratic colouration. You are asleep. It's a pitty a Nigerian is still reasoning this way. Shame!
The honest truth is that there's nothing ECOWAS, UN or ICC can do. The only way to make Buhari listen is by refusing to loan Nigeria any money and raining sanctions on the country including banning government officials from traveling. Buhari has nothing to lose really, he's not up for reelection and the man is content with his cows so the rest na just icing on cake.

Lots of Nigerian youths are too comfortable with mediocrity! Yes the country and the government is no good but are we really that worse than India, Pakistan or Yemen? Yet we see many of the youths in those countries excelling on Fiverr, Upwork and other freelancing sites.

Most youths don't graduate university before 24, most while in the university never bother to learn life skills or side gigs that can bring in income, y'all keep dreaming about graduating and starting an imaginary job earning 200k and above. Nigeria produces over 100,000 graduates a year, the number of available positions paying 100k or more starting salary is less than 20,000, how una wan do am?

The sooner you realize the future is innovation the better! Someone bringing in zero income is a lot worse than someone bringing in 100-300k per month from side gigs alone. BE WISE, there are lots of things you can do as a freelancer and still have time for other things, invest in your damn self and stop worrying about the things you cannot control like the Nigerian economy.

Examples of good skills:

1. Graphic design
2. Search Engine Optimization
3. Youtube Marketing
4. Article/product page writing
5. Social media growth(Follow & unfollow method)

Check your own tribe and that of your immediate neighbors, you would find many betrayers there, the difference between the North and the South is simple, no matter how bad the Northern leader is, majority will still vote for him over the Southern candidate. If we wnat to end Northern rulership, the South must unite plain and simple, this delusion of separation will never materialize by dialogue and I believe most of my Southerners are not ready to achieve it with blood.

China is a dictatorship and also run a tyranny so they can afford ban Twitter because right from time immemorial they have been oppressing their citizens...so the only time you can compare Nigeria and China is during our era of military rule then that is tenable because of the shared dictatorial and tyrannical tendencies.... but you now comparing China's policies of repression and oppression that is synonymous to communism and military juntas to a democratic set up is baseless
You're still missing the point, go back to the topic and see that the UN charter is the main point here, whenever anything goes wrong in 9ja we are quick to call on international bodies especially the UN but are blind to their hypocrisy. If China is so bad, so undemocratic why are they allowed to be part fo the UN? If not that we Africans are full of shit, why would we let an hypocritical body like the UN criticize or bully us for one thing while embracing China for the same thing?

I dislike Buhari as well, in fact I can't wait for the bloke to leave but that does not mean I have to support toothless bulldogs like the UN who normally shouldn't be able to wash our African feet if we were as progressive and independent as we ought to be.

omohayek:
Freedom of expression doesn't mean you have the right to use any and every private forum you like to voice any opinions you have. What it means is that you have the right to voice your opinions without fear of government censorship or punishment.

When you regurgitate the phrase "freedom of [sic] consequences after expression" to defend the Nigerian government's blatant violation of it's citizens constitutionally guaranteed rights, all you do is reveal yourself to be yet another ignorant worshipper of authoritarianism willing to use phrases he doesn't understand to defend tyrannical, illegal behavior - Buhari is not above the Nigerian constitution (which none of you Buhari apologists ever seem to have even scanned, as shameless as you are in dragging it into the discussion).
The problem with people like you is you sit behind a faceless forum to spew rubbish and expect people to take you seriously. Even the whites who came up with the doctrine of freedom of expression would explain to you this does not shield you from intended and unintended consequences, your opinion could be misconstrued as threats, your opinion could be detrimental and borderline psychotic, if Twitter has the rights to delete tweets or suspend accounts becuase it is inflammatory or unpopular surely you can see the irony in this.

After 9-11 in the USA, not only were people rounded up for what they've written in the past but phone records were pulled, neighbors were talked to all in an attempt to gather who has extremist ties to jihadism or Al-Qeada. Innocents Muslims who had nothing to do with terrorism were interrogated for hours or days under the terrorism act, if your freedom of speech poses a threat to national security/stability better believe they'll come for you.

You can choose to live in your delusions or you can wake up and see things for how they really are, your chest beating/boldness ends with the common people, when you try it with the wrong person or government, your ass will get lit.....It's done in China, it's done in America and 9ja is no exception....

Which constitution...? the one i hold a copy or another one? Pull out the Buhari's copy of the tweet from the archive and analyse it yourself. Buhari messed up big time. Nobody is in support of crime. I abhor it too. I escaped the ESN attack in Imo, same day Gulak was murdered. I boarded a port harcourt-bound flight from Lagos 2 days earlier, to return via owerri. Owerri was like a ghost town. The twit was ill-timed and genocidal in nature. I expected buhari to have apologized instead and mentioned clearly that he was referring to IPOB and ESN or arsonists... and not the South East in the period they were mourning their family and loved ones lost in the war. As a Yorubaman, my only uncle from the maternal side lost his life in that civil war. My mum and her siblings had to trick my grandma until her death by contributing money and giving it to her that her son said he should give her...though she suspected he had been killed in the war. I wonder what could be more traumatizing than that. He was one of the recruits on short military training to fight in the civil war.

Buhari is known for making unguarded, inflamatory comments. I thought old age would have washed such a habit off his mind.
Read up Section 217 part 2 (c), the right to defend the country against insurrection is non negotiable, it's not even a discussion worth arguing. The part that I agree with you is that Buhari's statement was ill timed, unguarded and inflammatory.
