henryobinna: No, twitter is not in the wrong reason being these things were written in their TOS which he agreed to when he created an account.
Now back to the threat of war, you now agree that Buhari's threat is not targeted at IPOB but at Igbos. This should be worrisome to any right thinking Nigerian with a good conscience. I wonder when the entire Igbos of Nigeria came together and told Buhari they want to create their own country or want to make the country a hell or are these accusations you're just manufacturing? Also do you think if all Igbos are in unison and want to create their own country your silly threat of war would stop it? Or if Igbos said they would make Nigeria a hell your silly twitter threat would stop it? Last time I checked, the only individual or group that has ever promised to make Nigeria ungovernable is your darling president or have you forgotten so soon how's notorious for inciting violence each time he loses an election?
Furthermore, the only people making Nigeria a hell are Buhari's people whom he has been giving his support to right from when he was never a president upto his 6th year a president. Abi you've forgotten those who've been kidnapping hundreds of people daily, torching villages and sacking communities.
How can we forgot so soon what happened in oyo state just days ago? Who is responsible? Was it Igbos? What prove do you have that Buhari's comment was targeted against Igbos? Surely we have Igbos in this APC government surely he doesn't want to exterminate them as well. A lot of you people are allowing your emotions to rule instead of logic, Twitter has its rules but so does the government in choosing to bar it from public use, both of these cannot be questioned. E.g. China & the UN. |

Eriokanmi: See the way you talk. You really lack intelligence. Did all the igbos nationwide converge and said they wanted their own country? Buhari wanted to exterminate them and he's not hiding it , period. When his brothers attacked, raped and killed their woman, what did he say? He will simply deploy military and police to the fulani community in fear of reprisal instead of protecting everyone without bias.
Where were you in 2011 when buhari made some inflammatory comments which led to his visa ban by US/EU which was later removed in 2015 ahead of the presidential electrons? In case you've forgotten, I could remind you of the "monkey and baboon soaking in blood" comment. I wonder how Nigerians forgot all these in a hurry and rushed to vote Buhari. I think we deserve what we're getting. See the way his people went to igangan to attack our people 2 days ago? Buhari's comment was genocidal. No sensible leader would make such a comment. Why not dialogue with these people same way he did boko haram and reintegrated them into the society? Think about it. This is what happens when you let sentiments cloud your judgement, was Buhari's comments directed against the Igbos or directed against insurrectionists? You can argue that his comments were of poor taste or not sensible but what you cannot argue is that he has the right or powers to make such declarations. You question my intelligence but if you bothered to read the Constitution instead of letting your emotions do the work that was meant for your brain, you would understand the powers given to the government against anarchy/insurrection. |

Anything goes in Nigeria, where the president was begging terrorists and bandits on Twitter but using genocide to threaten a whole region. They can clamour all they want but as soon as they pose a threat to national security or starts destroying proeprties or hurting civilians then the national guard including the army will be called in. It has happened before and the Constitution clearly gives the president this power against insurrection. |

henryobinna: RT and other US websites as well as conservative politicians are getting things mixed up. They do not have idea of what resulted in the ban. I guess if Donald Trump or their current president Biden was to threaten a section of the country with war on Twitter they'd all be glad his tweet was deleted.
They just pick up the news and start giving silly opinions thinking the situation that resulted in Donald trump's ban and Buhari's tweets getting deleted are the same.
For the most part, people in the US and many other western part of the world are grossly ignorant of the situations of things in Africa, I would estimate 90% can't even point out where Nigeria is located on the map.
If these US conservatives know that a president is threatening genocide on a section of the country I believe their opinion won't be the same. Then again if a section of a country comes out and promises to make the country hell or threatens to form their own country then that is a declaration of war. Exhibit A: The U.S Civil War 1861-1865. The U.S president being banned for adressing that declaration of war will be rebuked by majority of the country hence Twitter is still in the wrong here. When it comes to matters of national security and soverignity, tech companies should maintain their lane. Today it is presidents, tomorrow it is ordinary citizens for not supporting gays, being religious etc, where does it stop? |

[s]Agreed. And leadership is fundamental to creating this sense of common inheritance, of unity. If there was no succession of biased and bigot leaders, each trying to favor their own side, Buhari being the pinnacle of it, Nigeria would have transcended these minor tribal differences and rather found a way to capitalize on them. [/s] Look around your neighborhood, look at your families, friends, colleagues, celebrities etc, leaders are chosen from the people, the people reflect their culture and unfortunately the african culture is one of selfishness and powewr struggles. We want our leaders to change but we don't want to change ourselves? Afromentalist: LOL. Part of the problem with you guys is that you always think you have the keys to foreign countries. First off, I do not see how your profession and businesses relate to the topic at hand unless you feel a desire to state them.
Bruv, my entire family lives in the USA (from parents to most of my siblings), and it was my second home until I left the country some decades ago. China is a country I have spent a full year in (student exchange) - and still visit regularly, and I have learnt the Mandarin dialect to an extent. As an avid traveller and for professional reasons, I have been to most of the countries you can think of, for prolonged sojourn of many months. I hold 3 different citizenships while speaking 4 different languages fluently, and some more which I have only elementary knowledge.
Now that been said, if you don't know that there are hundreds versions of chinese that are HUGELY different from one another, then you most likely go and stay among africans expatriates or chinese sellers that speak some english and think you have truly visited china. DO SOME RESEARCH OR ASK AROUND TO LOCALS.
This is an excerpt from Wikipedia
"The predominant language is Standard Chinese, which is based on central Mandarin, there are hundreds of related Chinese languages, collectively known as Hanyu (simplified Chinese: 汉语; traditional Chinese: 漢語; pinyin: Hànyǔ, 'Han language'), that are spoken by 92% of the population. The Chinese (or 'Sinitic') languages are typically divided into seven major language groups, and their study is a distinct academic discipline.[5] They differ as much from each other morphologically and phonetically as do English, German and Danish.
Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_of_China
My best friend in China and language Partner told me personally, there are more than 200 different dialect in china, and orally they are very very different to one another. I have also experienced it and until it is written, you may not realize it's the same language.
This is exactly my point! If china was poorly managed, they too would implode from the inside and see each other as enemies!
I am not against restructuring, in fact I am rather favorable to it, but if you fail to identify your true problem as a nation, you will never overcome your challenge! When Tinibu is syphoning the funds in Lagos is it because he is a northerner? Or you mean those that stole money from Delta State, are not from Delta state?
Poor and incompetent leadership is and will always be the problem, restrutured or not. I don't know why you feel so insecure but the gibberish you wrote only further proves my point. You were the one that wrote: I have been to more countries that you can imagine.
If you truly believe that russians and chinese are uniform in their whole country, countries that are 10 times or more as big as nigeria, then I am the one to sincerely doubt you have truly stepped your foot outside Africa. Yet you criticize me for defending myself, guy stop it! Furthermore you're still missing the point, there is nowhere you can go in China that they won't undertsand Mandarin, just like in Yorubaland, there's nowhere that doesn't understand the language even though there are numerous local dialects or modifications. This is not the same as comparing Yorubaland to Fulani or Hausa. A youruba man cannot go to a Fulani dominated area and speak the official language of Nigeria which is English and expect them to automatically understand him. Your incessant need to argue against this baffles me Now to where I agree with you, yes incompetent leadership is to blame but it is not the only thing to blame, until the people starts seeing themselves as one Nigerians instead of Yoruba man, Hausa or Igbo; until we remove the religious chirade that makes people betray their neighbors all because of religious indfifference, we cannot progress as a country. You keep mentioning leadership? Who are the leaders? Are they supposed to be specially bred or what? Did they not grow up within the same system of bigotry and ethnic bias? It's like buying Agege bread and expecting rice inside? Who does that? History repeats itself, once as a tragedy and the next time as comedy. The ugly nation of 70s and early 80s has once again presented itself, it remains to be seen if people will be slaughtered like pigs or we do the sensible and allow self determination. |

Afromentalist: Our discussion is not about the acumen of Dangote, and I would not want to discuss that. It is not the bone of contention. I was taking an example, I can take another one. There are many successful northerners in lagos which are very productive, and their yorubas employee do not resign from their firms in the name of restructuring. It is suffering and poverty that makes people exacerbate their differences.
I have been to more countries that you can imagine.
If you truly believe that russians and chinese are uniform in their whole country, countries that are 10 times or more as big as nigeria, then I am the one to sincerely doubt you have truly stepped your foot outside Africa.
Let me tell you, Russia is so big that in some part it is the night while in other parts is it day time. The are so much differences among the people that you will have the impression you are living in 5 different countries.
Even in China there are tons of different languages. There is no uniform chinese languages contrary to what you believe, there are actually very different cantons with their patois and their lifestyle.
Even in very smaller countries such as France there are big differences among the bretons, the alsaciens, the antillais, the marseillais or the corses. The language is not the same (beyond french) and the habits / way of life are not similar. Even the climate / geography is not uniform. Let alone countries - continents such as Russia or China.
The only reason these country move forward with limited problems, is because they are well managed.
If Nigeria was properly managed, with meritocracy, egalitarianism and the culture of excellence and forward thinking, you would see other tribes as a source of cultural exchange and learning and tourism. But now, because of the calamity Nigeria is (in), you believe you have nothing in common with them. I hate going around in circles and you've deliberately circumvent my points. Everybody in China and Russia speaks a common language in addition to their different local dialect, this cannot be said of Nigeria. Apart from working for a top companies in the USA for a decade now, I also run 3 businesses that requires me to travel to Shenzhen and Beijing once or twice a year, there is no province or town in China that does not speak Mandarin, likewise Russia, there's no city or town that does not speak Russian. Nigeria's official language is English, believe it or not yet so many towns in the North that does not understand pidgin not to talk of English. You focused primarily on size which has nothing to do with my assertions. You keep focusing on Lagos but let me flip it on you, how many Yorubas are in highly sensitive positions in the North? How many can become emirs, sultan, Imam, etc? Go to Igboland as well, how many Fulanis can become king, chief and so on. If truly people saw themselves as Nigerian first before tribal or ethnic affiliation, shouldn't we be more integrated by now? Until you can properly and honestly answer my questions, please don't compare us to China or Russia, we have no such unity, what divides us is far greater than what unites us and to think otherwise is to continue living a life of ofutu fete aka lalaland/fantasy! |

Afromentalist: I agree that Nigeria should be restructured, but let me tell you the truth: if there was/were a competent and egalitarian leader(s) at the helm of affairs, you would not even be asking for restructuring nor asking if northerners have anything in common with yorubas.
Dangote is a northerner but he invest in Lagos and you are happy for that, ain't it? Only because the leaders are syphoning funds and appointing their kinsmen that you now suddenly believe you are so different from notherner and yoruba and whatnot.
China or russia which is a continent by itself is being managed under a unitary system, and you rarely see their people asking for federalism, you know why? Because these are fairly well managed countries. Or do you think there are not differences in the population of those countries? Moreoever True federalism as a system is not perfect, it also has its flaws, let no one deceive you.
If Nigeria was well managed by competent leaders, nobody would be shouting restructure day in, day out. The fundamental problem is not the unitary system of governance, but leadership and competence. Dangote is a monopolistic shrewd that has done more harm to this country than you'll ever know. In any nation, the lack of competition only further weakens the economy and the natural order of things, while you might applaud his factory building and employment of people, did you ever dig deep into the reason why most of his competitors slowly go bankrupt? When one company dominates an entire industry the only people to blame are the law makers and regulators. In sane countries, Dangote group of companies would have been forced to divest due to the laws against monopoly. Your next point about Russia and China using unitary system. Have you ever been to China or Russia? Can you differentiate between clans? In terms of ethnicity, no country on the planet earth has more diversity than Nigeria. Over 250 ethnic groups and we expect a unitary system to work, IMPOSSIBLE! No matter where you go in China they all speak a common language in addition to their local dialect, same goes for Russia. In Nigeria this is not the case especially in the North, our common language is English and majority of the North will not follow you speak such language. We can continue to pretend and wish for some fairy tale solution or we can be practical and acknowledge the root of our problems, our differences are just too much to coexist in one country! |

The problem is not the leader, it is the system, we need to break everything down and start from scratch. For example do I have anything in common with a Northerner? If our religious, tribal, physical and emotional reasoning differs strongly why then should we be bound together under one country? Does the Northerner see me as a Nigerian first before a Yoruba or a Christian? Does the Southerner see the Northerner as a Nigerian first before his or her Hausa/Fulani heritage? Nobody born of a woman can gather the Chinese, Russians and the Indians together and form a nation, why then do we think Nigeria can work with so many moving parts? No leader can solve our problem, we were called giant of Africa but people think it is by size or economy rather it is because of the massive egos and conflicts, giant sized wahala |

I am refering to his governance as a whole during the whole 6 years he was president. Was he a good president? Buhari is a catastrophic president, but Jonathan though better than Buhari wasn't great. In fact, it is because Jonathan was quite incompetent and ineffective as a president that people wanted a change at all cost, and did not really mind to use their brain. People thought Jonathan was so bad that it was difficult to be any worse, so whoever would come would certainly perform better. Remember, people even claimed that if Buhari has nepa bill as certificate, he is better than Jonathan. This is a testament to Jonathan's incompetence as a president. Yet as Buhari as shown us all, even the ghost of Jonathan is 100 times better than Buhari. Forget sentiments, I also criticized Jonathan but let's not sdeceive ourselves, the country is 1000% worse than under GEJ's regime. EgunMogaji2: You’ve got it figured out wrong.
1) Unemployment Insurance is funded by both employees and employers.
2) It’s not meant to replace lost salary in totality but to cushion the immediate effect of unemployment.
3) The maximum is $450 per week so an unemployed executive will make less than $2,000 per month before tax.
To answer your other questions, we need to gravitate away from this premise that Nigerians are poor. E are not. A salaried worker can easily afford the necessary taxes. Unfortunately it will never work in Nigeria, companies would rather reduce their work staff or hire contractors where unemployment insurance does not apply. In Nigeria, companies get away with a lot because what's the alternative? The amount of applicants far outweighs the amount of available jobs and it will only get worse. Government has no welfare package so even if the private companies are willing, government will still fall short on their end. |

I have been in I.T audit for almost a decade now and if you are going to generalize by saying a certain group of people are more likely to do something better than another group of people, shouldn't the population of your sample include adequate representation of all the people in the group? E.g - Can you say Nigerians are more likely to die from asthma than Egyptians without sampling Cairo or those in Northern Nigeria? Can you say Northern Nigeria is more dnagerous than Ghettos in the USA without including cities like chicago, compton and states like Borno and Adamawa in your population? Show me the research with the proper sampling that supports your theory of white people more likely to die from cancer than black people. Let me save you time, there are none! Make I burst your brain small, how many people die and are buried in Nigeria yearly without an autopsy or without going to the morgue? What of Congo, Niger, Benin, Togo? Make we kuku dabaru everything, what of India? Hope you get the point, you can't measure cancer deaths in a place where a large percentage of deaths are not even recorded, to compare this against the data of whites is just plain rubbish. |

maasoap: It's a fact that whites are more prone to cancer than blacks and blacks are more prone to HPB/hypertension than whites. A brief Google search will provide better insights for you on this. Come on this is not even something you should be arguing, you can't call something fact when it has actually not been proven. Do you even know all the blacks in the world? Do most third world black countries have accurate database? How many Nigerians die yearly from cancer but we call it death from a brief illness? As bad as Nigeria is medically, I can name 10 more predominantly black countries with even worse healthcare systems and database, what research was done to know the cancer rates in these countries? YOU'RE BETTER THAN THIS, REASON AM! |
