You had me until you said turn on the news.

You wanna know what news Americans see when they listening to Nigerian news?? Ghettos and slums! Does that mean all Nigeria is ghetto and slums?
We're making the same point here, the media manipulates people! When you hear something on the news, the last thing that comes to mind is manipulation, more often we tend to take it as facts. if more Americans actually investigated rather than just trusting the media unconditionally, they would see the truth. They would see that Africa is not just slums, they would know the dangers of some of the stuff they eat and they'll start appreciating the world at large.

You keep mentioning 250th. As it ever happened that there was 2 mass shootings in the same day? Hours from each other? Out of that 250th, count the number of mass shootings that has happened during his admin alone and compare it to others.
We've had mass shootings 2 days apart, we've had some one week apart. It makes no difference if it happened hours, days or weeks apart. Under this admin, mass shootings averages about 8 per year, under the Obama administration, it averaged about 5 per year. If you think somehow the small uptick is due to Trump then you have no understanding of what's really going on! Americans are getting more and more depressed, every time you turn on the news, it is politically motivated bashing depending on the network. Kids are all doped up on anti depressants and mood changers. More and more fathers are dead or in jail and more women are abandoning their children. If all these is somehow caused by Trump then there's no point arguing. I repeat America has a cultural and mental problem, Trump is not the root of it, he's just easier to blame!

that's the thing, very true the last two protest after mass shootings at some other place sometime ago yielded nothing, I was like seriously?
but nothing like what do they gain from it plus I applaud trump's decisivness when it comes to issues like this take for instant the border wall funds ,his contributions can help make them see reasons I mean Obama pushed for it unfortunately that one only saw reasons to yield when it started dawning on him that he was going out.
he has to make a say, at least it's something.
Trump is not a politician, when it comes to social and sensitive issues like this, he would not want to rock the boat. Everyone wants a solution but no one can agree on the right solution hence the reason why nothing ever gets done about gun control in America. The Democrats wants to take away all guns, the Republicans want to preserve the right to own guns. Some people are asking for comprehensive background checks but criminals getting guns from black market will never go through a background check. Just like weed, you can ban it all you want but it still sells on the street.

AR15 - military grade weapons which can be equipped with body armor piercing rounds of ammunition that can be purchased easily off a gun shop in U. S.

this is the problem , there are loose laws that prevent the buying or selling of weapons such as this.

this is military graded weapons used for combat, how on earth did he get an AR15, trump needs to rethink this, people are dying.
Trump cannot do anything about this, any president that tries such will be signing his or her death sentence. The NRA and other lobbying groups own Congress and the government. This is the 250th mass shooting in America, wanna bet nothing gets done?

You would be surprised if it is legalised. We know how much people who could hardly feed are spending on phones. Even in USA, not everyone has guns. But legalising it will increase the numbers in four folds at least.

That's why I said every policy has advantages and disadvantages. USA policy on guns has advantages and disadvantages and Nigeria policy on guns has advantages and disadvantages too. But I prefer the Nigeria policy

Laughing. Guns are made to kill. We can choose to accept the reality or decide to pretend like we don't know.
Guns were made to kill? Yet a gun by itself has never killed anyone in the history of humanity...lol. Just like knives, ropes etc, in the hands of an unstable person, they can be weapons of death. Blame the person not the method!

Do you count armed robbery, gang violence and domestic violence as mass shooting? if you do, then there are already 3 today alone. To do that, you'll count thousands in a Year in the United States. Mass shooting has no universal definition but US congressional , it's defined as shootings carried out in a public place without being a means to an end. That removes gang violence or armed robbery or domestic violence. When I said mass shooting, I meant people that shoot at others indiscriminately without cause. And this is popular where there are a lot of guns without proper regulation.

You counted rituals, robbery and kidnapping in Nigeria, but you don't often hear of a lone shooter shooting sporadically in a night club or in a shopping mall or inside a campus. If things like these will even happen, they are organised by gangs or cultists. It's not only US that have people with mental issues. It's even worse in Nigeria with very few people with hospital records or access to good health care, how many pyschriatic hospitals are inot eachieve state in Nigeria. Or how many people have their health histories with the hospitals. How do you want to give these people guns and you think they'll be better off? How will you know not to sell a gun to a disturbed person in a place like Nigeria?

And why are you using your in-laws estate as an example here? which insane individual will rob an estate full of military personnel? Don't robbers rob police stations in Nigeria? How has more guns solve crime anywhere in the world? it doesn't work in the US, you think it'll work in Nigeria?
Mass shooting has no universal definition but US congressional , it's defined as shootings carried out in a public place without being a means to an end. That removes gang violence or armed robbery or domestic violence.
Congress is full of sh*t! Mass shootings can and have been a means to an end. A fired co worker came back to place of work to kill his boss and everyone around him. For Congress and you, this does not fit your definition of mass shooting? A bullied kid came back to his school and killed multiple students because he was depressed and suicidal, is this not ameans to an end?

And why are you using your in-laws estate as an example here? which insane individual will rob an estate full of military personnel? Don't robbers rob police stations in Nigeria? How has more guns solve crime anywhere in the world? it doesn't work in the US, you think it'll work in Nigeria?
We have many estates that have been robbed in the past and many more due to poor security. I used the estate as an example of how people don't need to rely on the government to protect them, self security is one area many fail in Nigeria, how many robbers actually do their due diigence in Nigeria? It's not like these people go around in army uniforms....lol. My dad built his mansion and he was robbed twice. Both times he made sure to drop a body, 2 AK 47, 9mm and so on. He does not live in an estate but he is very secured. Outright ban on guns is detrimental to the society, you're at the messy of the authorities or the criminals. The same goes for unconditional gun ownership, there must be a system of checks and balance for it to work.

You counted rituals, robbery and kidnapping in Nigeria, but you don't often hear of a lone shooter shooting sporadically in a night club or in a shopping mall or inside a campus.
Sorry but is one supoosed to be better than the other? I don't get your point here! Can you count the number of people killed by ritualist/kidnappers/robbers in Nigeria this year? Can you tell me those are acceptable casualties compared to mass shooters? Funny!

Even if you're right, that doesn't take the fact that gun control will bring down the numbers of gun casualties. It is a simple and glaring fact.
Let Nigeria government allow everyone to have access to guns in Nigeria and see the gun related deaths spike under one year
No doubt but there's a difference between gun control and total ban on civilians owning guns. There's a difference between a mandated background check and actually putting in place techniques to reduce gun violence e.g. mental illness evaluation and treatment, increasing legal age to 25, yearly recertification etc.

In Nigeria, not everyone will be able to afford bullets, let alone guns. Gun related deaths are already spiking, we just don't have proper statistics monitoring....lol. You think all these people being attacked by Fulani herdsmen, being kidnapped by Evanesque gangs and so on, do you think they wouldn't be able to protect themselves if they had access to a registered gun? Like I said, we just have to agree to disagree; guns don't kill people, people kill people!

Why do you say it as if only post-millenial babies commit mass shooting? The Las Vegas shooter was 64 years old, the Orlando shooter was 30 years old. Those are the deadliest mass shootings in US history.

Also, most mass shooters bought their guns themselves. The Virginia Tech guy got the guns himself, the Florida school shooter bought the gun himself. These guys were mentally unstable and the could easily access semi automatic rifles. They didn't steal their parents gun, they bought it themselves. It was after these incidence that some guns laws were enacted by George Bush in 2008 and The age of owning a gun was increased to 21 in 2018. By your logic, these regulations shouldn't have been enacted, everyone, whether sane or not should be able to carry rifles.

And your last assumption is laughable. You want to give people guns in Nigeria because of home breaking? Are homes and banks with security in Nigeria not rubbed? Giving Nigerians guns will worsen violence with the high number of unstable people in clothes.
I guess you need to define the term mass shootings. I've always understood it to be any shootings where three or more people are killed in a single incidence. If this is the right definition and not just what you see on CNN then since 1980 we've had most cases of mass shootings as a result of a negligent parent, family member or friend. Yes, your examples are correct but they only represent a tiny fraction of gun violence in the U.S. Even if you enact laws which curbs mass shootings as defined by you, it will not solve the situations I've identified. It will not solve gang violence in Chicago or other inner cities. It will not solve domestic violence related deaths by guns.

You mentioned that the situation in Nigeria would be a lot worse but I fail to see how? Kidnappings , rituals, robberies are already high. Insecurity is the order of the day. Come to my in-laws estate where almost everybody is military personnel with weapons at their disposal, there's never been a case of theft not to talk of armed robbery. I guess we can agree to disagree on that one grin grin grin

Stricter gun laws will reduce mass shootings. The two mass shootings that happened today were by lone gunmen, they probably don't belong to any organized crime gang. If guns weren't readily available and accessible, they might not have killed that much number of people. What's an unstable person doing with semi automatic rifle? Is it only US that have unstable people? Even in Nigeria, before you can get a gun, you either be a member (or close affliate) of a cult group or a criminal association, but in the US, you can easily get a gun at gun shows without any background check.
You're partially correct. Gun shows are expected to do their own background checks, although it is not as comprehensive as federal ones but they can get in trouble for selling a gun to a maniac. Furthermore more than 70% of mass shootings in the U.S occurred by those who would pass federal background checks very easily. The check is done when you purchase the gun or when your parents purchase the gun and it is never ever done again. So tell me what stops a teenager or a 20 something year old from picking up the guns of his or her parents? Remember the parent that owns the gun successfully passed federal background checks grin grin grin Can you see now why the problem of mass shootings is not that of the law but of American culture? The newer generations are weak and any little thing they are ready to end it all, if you propose to ban all guns then tell me when a criminal confronts you at home with a gun, how do you defend yourself? 80% of home robberies in Nigeria could be resolved easily if the occupants had guns at home.

This particular shooting took less than a minute. 9 people died, 26 were injured. Only one shooter. Which "something else" can kill and injure people like this?
Can you tell me a law that could have prevented that? You might say ban all guns but do you think criminals care about laws?

Do you think menally unstable people care about laws? More than 70% of deaths by guns happens through backdoor or illegal sales.

Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Take away guns and people in the U.S would still find something else to use. The amount of people abusing medication is over 70% of the population. An average American kid takes about 3 to 4 different pills per day, mental illness plus a spoiled culture is responsible for American gun violence. Take away guns and pass all the laws you want, criminals will be criminals.

Jones4190:
Do you know that Atiku “had no right to be voted for and returned in the election to the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria held on Saturday 23 February, 2019, having regard to the clear provision of Section 131(a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (CFRN) 1999 as amended, which unequivocally stipulates inter alia, that for a person to be qualified for election to the office of President, he must be a citizen of Nigeria by birth.
“Atiku is not a citizen of Nigeria by birth and ought not to have even been allowed, in the first place, to contest the election. From available records, Atiku was born on the 25th November, 1946 in Jada, Adamawa, in Northern Cameroon, and is, therefore, a citizen of Cameroon.
“His father was Garba Atiku Abdulkadir, who died in December, 1957. Prior to 1919, Cameroon was being administered by Germany. “But following the defeat of Germany in World War I, which ended in 1918, Cameroon became a League of Nations mandate territory which was split into French Cameroons and British Cameroons in 1919.
“British Cameroons was administered by the British from neighbouring Nigeria.
“In 1961, a plebiscite was held in British Cameroons to determine whether the people preferred to stay in Cameroon or align with Nigeria.
“While Northern Cameroon preferred a union with Nigeria, Southern Cameroon chose alignment with the mother country.
“The transition took place on June 1, 1961. It was as a result of that plebiscite that Northern Cameroon, which included Adamawa, became a part of Nigeria, and by derivation, the Atiku became a citizen of Nigeria, but not by birth.
“Atiku, therefore, contrary to the assertion in Paragraph 1 of their petition against Buhari had no right to be voted for as a candidate in the election to the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria held on 23rd February, 2019 across Nigeria,” what we are said is that the court should dismiss the Atiku petition, base on the fact that Atiku did not qualified to contest the election, all the votes purportedly cast for the Atiku at the 23 February, 2019 election and as subsequently declared by INEC on the 27th of February 2019, were wasted votes. If you vote for PDP in the last presidential election, your vote in invalid
A competent lawyer would argue that before 1960 Nigeria did not exist, especially the Nigerian Constitution hence those born before 1960 are not subjected to your analysis. We all know what happened between 1914-1960, the question here is whether a sovereign nation should be bounded by laws or decrees from their colonial masters?
