shegzhkn:
Look at your completely fuçked up way of thinking, a supposedly exposed individual (I guess you live in Uncle Sam).
Nigeria democracy is still at it infancy stage (a 60 years old country), was china colonized ?? (The same China that saw hell in the hands of the japanese and was able to pull over 800M people out of poverty) or is it Korea that was occupied until 1945 by the same japanese and was completely devastated after the Korean war, hell we even gifted Japan two nukes & still they were able to rebuild.
It seems to me you are looking for excuse to justify the state of that society, telling me I like comparing Nigeria with the likes of Asians, Americans / European but guess what the common denominator they all share is that they are developed and advanced society.
If you really loved that country why don't you leave atl and move back.
Again what system of governance does China practice? Was China colonized by Japan? Before you spew rubbish kindly understand we are not talking about invasions of part of China but China as a whole. Furthermore you obviously have comprehension problems as I made my analysis based on system of governance and POPULATION! Bringing Korea into the conversation is asinine!

Finally, facts are facts my boi, I don't need to move back to Nigeria to speak the truth, I employ and pay the salaries of at least 10 people in 9ja,I contribute my fair share and pay taxes on my houses and investments, what have you done lately lil nigga?

Just Rhetoric and stop gap measures.
I've always opined that the disaster that country is facing could have been prevented a long time ago (1950s - 1990s) when most asian powers began to industrialize, the question I am yet to get answers to is what were the baby boomers and their parents / grandparents doing then.
A Chinese proverb says "The best time to plant a tree is a twenty years ago, the second best time is now", meaning it is not too late to start doing what is right and what are those things.
Yo have an economy (oil reliant one) whose size is less than 600B USD and a population more than 200M with a GDP per Capita of less 2.5K USD and you expect not to have massive unemployment, poverty and underdevelopment. Just to provide context here Holland (the Netherlands) has a population of less than 20M and over 1 trillion dollar economy (insanely high GDP per Capita), ROK has 50M population with more than 1.8 trillion dollar economy (also good GDP per Capita) so you could expect unemployment to be low here, high HDI and good standard of living.
The only way to solve the problem of unemployment is to start providing values across the globe and that will require the folks in power to start doing what is right.
Always comparing Nigerian society to China or Europeans/Americans.

1. Was China ever colonized? Do they have a homogenous society or are they fractured like Nigerians? What do you have in common with a Fulani?

2. Can you define communism? Do you know that such a system is geared towards community development than the liberal democratic system practiced in Nigeria? Nigeria's democracy is still less than 50 years old, with such a huge population democracy here is still in its infancy!

3. Are you a patriot? Are you willing to forsake majority of your profits for the greater good of the country? This is the question every Nigerian should be asked. If you want to compare Nigeria to China, you need to be prepared to say yes! Even the average American pays 5 TIMES the amount of taxes the average Nigerian pays yet we want development, we want fuel to be cheap and jobs abundant......WAKE UP!

Government must diversify the economy, private sector must be empowered and at the same time heavily regulated. The companies creating the most jobs should receive tax breaks, entrepreneurship should be encouraged and taught in universities as a required course. Government should invest in working refineries and return Nigeria back to agricultural dominance rather than wasting money on subsidies and other scams. Nigeria is not and can never develop the way China did, it must develop in its own unique way with government, private sector and citizens reaching a new level of understanding!

We don't have to wait for women to accept it, the English common law and the courts have already accepted it. If the man takes hus wife to court and can prove he has made significant contributions to the marriage, the court will rule they share the properties in accordance to their contributions.
90% of Nigerian courts will not rule in favor of the man, the law is very prejudiced against lazy men! Let's get this straight even this case can be successfully appealed, if the man never collected a dime from her. The judgment was not only based on her non financial contribution but the length of the marriage and her financial contributions. Rescuing him by paying 150k is just an example of how irresponsible the man is and the judge used that against him.

In a more straightforward case, the judge would have ruled in favor of the man since it is not a joint investment but this case is not straightforward. They lived in the house for 30 years, trust has been established that it is a family property and not just the husband's, I doubt the judge would rule similarly if they never lived in the house or the wife had other property to live in.

FamilyRe: My Personal Observation About Nigerian "Adults" by abbey621(m): 2:56pm On May 27, 2023
CuriousCart:
I have noticed that most Nigerians are adults by age only and not thought. 80% of adults lack a clue about their next move and direction.

They usually copy what other successful people around them are doing on the surface.

If a colleague buys a car, they start getting worked up until they also buy a car. If a neighbour opens a shop for his wife they rush to open a shop too. If their friend is into tech, they abandon their budding career and start taking tech courses upandan.

I think the copiers do this because they believe mimicking will make them reach the same goals as the person but they fail to realize that life doesn't work that way because there are many unseen events and efforts that may have led to the copyee's success.

The colleague who bought a car may have been gifted by a sugar daddy or recently lost a parent and inherited the car while you are planning to use your entire savings plus loan.
The neighbour opening a shop may have had 15 years experience in that biz line while you just want to dive into it blindly.
The tech guy may just have the brains for it while you are more likely to succeed at sales.

Finally, when they are done copying and don't achieve the same successful result as the copyee, the next thing is to accuse him/her of using juju and using people's destiny to succeed.

Just do you.
Your opinion was shaped by your limited view of the world, once you travel to other countries, you would revise your view and have a more appreciative view of the world. For example, in the USA there's something called the American Dream! Work work work so that you can afford to buy a house on mortgage and pay it for 30 years at interest rate of 3-7%. Work for 30-40 years so that you can retire and the government can pay you 1/3rd of your salary for the rest of your life. Over 70% of the American population believes in this dream hence they become a slave to the system.

It is only human to follow trends whether good or bad, it is what it is!

If this is the only problem and are apparent method of locking up when angry, my guy it is still fixable, people are dealing with bigger and stronger shege in their marriage, better be grateful! A man just found out none of his 3 kids were his after 12 years of marriage, a woman just found out her husband has another family after 14 years of marriage, she even goes to the same church with the woman and her kids.

Once again, if your marital problems involves only limited sex and a slight wayward attitude, bro you ain't got PROBLEMS!

Nwaetche:
This is Shameful indeed!

Not even the US Secretary of State?

This shows exactly shows how the Biden Administration regards the incoming Tinubu Administration. personalities involved in delegation for Presidential inauguration has always been a reflection of how the US Administration views any incoming government.

Sending a lowly placed cabinet secretary to attend to an inauguration of the "most important" country in Africa is an insult to say the least and unfortunately many Nigerians are tripping over this obvious humiliation of Tinubu and his incoming administration.

In Buhari’s first term, The Honorable John Kerry, Secretary of State was the leader of the delegation

In a normal clime, the US would have been represented by the VP Kamela Harris who is second in the line of succession.

For your information, per the US Power hierarchy as enunciated by the succession act of 1947, the order of seniority and the line of succession of US officials are as follows:

1. The President POTUS

2. The VP - Kamala Harris

3. The Speaker of US HOR - Kevin McCathy

4. US President Pro Tempo of the Senate - Patty Murray

5. Secretary of State - Anthony Blinken

6 Secretary of Defence - Lloyd Austin

7 . Attorney General - Merrick Garland

8. Secretary of Interior - Deb Harland

9. Secretary of Agriculture - Tom Vilsack

10. Secretary of Commerce - Gina Raimondo

11. Secretary of labour - Julie Su

12. Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra

13. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development - Marcia Fudge

FamilyRe: Is Flogging A Part Of Good Parenting ? by abbey621(m): 10:28pm On May 16, 2023
Yugoslavia247:
Despite all the flogging, we are still the most corrupt nation. High rate of internet fraud, hook up.

Flogging never actually worked.

Many parents flogg and gave up. Children revolt and fight back. Children become more dangerous and beast mode is activated.

Alot of children want to stay away from home.

At the end the flogging will at a point be needless. That is when most parent use the real parenting skills of advise and pleading.

You can not flog an 18 year old. He will fight you.

I think real parenting is the ability to use the other forms of effective punishment and reward approach. Because advise is the best.

In school the most notorious are still the most flogged. Did they stop being notorious? No.

The most pampered are more willing to excel academically.

In parenting, the ability to use the carrot and stick approach effectively works to a very large extent.

Children get use to beating and it becomes ineffective.

At a point you would not be able to beat that child. What will you do?

This is Africa where we we teach morals to children and encourage corruption of adults

Spits

In Africa is where a Father teaches his children not to steal while he loots his place of work endlessly

We actually are too lazy in African schools to imbibe theories of parenting and teaching. We prefer the easier route. Using pain and fear.

If many Nigeria teachers were living abroad they will learn patience and respect for children rights.

We most certainly do not respect that in Nigeria.

Many wealthy politicians sent their children to these schools in Nigeria where no one hits their children.

These same children end up the in elite and political class. They very confident and outspoken.

Flogging is for the poor.
In life anything done out of balance or improperly would yield bad results. The same applies to flogging or physical discipline. The first step in parenting is teaching, if a child does not know right from wrong, good from evil then how can such a child behave appropriately? Flogging cannot and will not replace proper communication and learning.

Now to your point, Nigeria is highly corrupt just like all the other countries that share these three things:

1. Poverty ( Unemployment, Underemployment, Bigotry, Nepotism etc)
2. Insecurity & Lack of Amenities
2. A failed system

Give Nigerians a system like the USA and I guarantee you Nigerians would perform excellently.......Case in point, look at the numerous folks wey dey jaapa to America. Majority of them behave themselves. They pay taxes, wear seat belts, follow road signs, respect the cops, maintain proper hygiene etc.

If those same people had remained in Nigeria, it is very possible that majority of them would be just as corrupt as the government. This only proves that you cannot say flogging works or does not work based on the corruption in Nigeria, rather we must look at the overall picture.

LEt's compare Nigeria to a country where they rarely flog their children, the gold ol USA. How are the American born students performing in schools? What percentage of the kids end up being drug users? How many of the female kids end up having juvenile sex? How many turn to violence and become mass murderers?

If your theory on flogging was correct, shouldn't a country like the USA raise one of the best set of kids on the planet? The reality is that compared to the 1960s and 1970s, American born kids are 10 times more rotten. Upon all the children's rights, the relationship between parents and their kids is at an all time low. The family system is a joke now and as early as 15 these kids are emancipating themselves from frying pan to fire. In life anything done out of balance or improperly would yield bad results, whether it is flogging or being padi padi with your kids!

I’m a member of a national organization that gives close to a million dollars in merit scholarships to graduating seniors that belong to minority groups every year, matter of fact we’re announcing winners next week, and I help to analyze data to pick the recipients—nothing you tell me will change my mind about what I know. There are literally hundreds of thousands of non-immigrant Black children excelling and attending college just as there are those with immigrant backgrounds. I’m damned proud to be of Nigerian descent but I’m not one of those with the we’re perfect, always wearing blinders Nigerian-elitist mindset.
You want me to look up SAT scores which has nothing to do with anything but why don’t you look up some of the shit our Nigerian youth are doing in America and getting caught. Those stories almost never make it back home.
We’re surrounded by glass and need to recognize that instead of just throwing stones.
Goodbye.
Again what you wrote has no bearing on the fact that I stated, minorities are still dominating top 20 high schools in America in terms of intelligence. You can argue all you want, it is just one of the reference point of why the parenting styles of minorities are preferred over Caucasians or black Americans. So get back to topic Mr. or Ms. member, when all things are equal and Nigerian kids are presented with the same opportunities as non Nigerian kids, do they excel or not? Overall, are Nigerian kids in the USA more well behaved than their American peers?

Yes Nigeria as a whole is messed up and lots of work to be done but this does not take away from my point on parenting style!

P.S I also work with data, in fact I.T audit to be precise, my employer J.P. Morgan Chase is also one of the largest contributors to minority communities, keep up the good work!

Not only is this a generalization, it’s an outright lie. I don’t fall for sensationalism, instead I base my thoughts/feelings on life experiences and facts. It’s funny that you think that American and European kids are the only ones using drugs or suffering from traumatic experiences when there is an equal amount of African kids (including Nigerian kids) on both the American and European continents suffering from trauma and self-medicating with drugs. The difference? Americans and Europeans don’t hide their shit from their families or the outside world while most Africans(including Nigerians) who are experiencing the same damned things with their children will go to the ends of the earth to hide what’s going on from their families and other Nigerians. Don’t say I’m wrong because I‘m half Nigerian myself and grew up in America around Nigerians and other Africans and witnessed them locking their kids away, beating them into submission, sending them back to Nigeria or whatever part of Africa they came from and bribing poor relatives with money to house/raise them, marrying them off to be someone else’s trouble, or just turning a blind eye and not caring as long as no one they knew found out.
You probably also don’t know that when many of these Nigerian/other African kids grow up, they cut their parents off and live life permanently estranged from them. I’m not saying all but I’m saying many and some of the ones that don’t cut them off harbor deep resentment towards their parents and see them as a burden.
Chinere Ogazi and other YouTubers are good examples. She speaks about being physically, mentally, and emotionally abused by her Nigerian father and while she and her brother were walking around in America with holes in their shoes, her father was boxing up new clothes to send home to family in Nigeria along with most of the family’s money. Another one speaks about being abused by every male member of her family. You're going to hear more and more stories because unlike older generations, younger generations that realize that abuse is not normal are speaking up and calling their elders out on their bullshit.
I disagree with the top 20 students all being immigrants because that’s a myth but let me tell you something funny. If you gain the trust of some of the Nigerian-American youth who excel in school, they’ll tell you in confidence that they’re doing well in school and working hard so that they can get the hell away from their parents ASAP. It’s not a rarity for them to purposely attend schools and settle clear across the America from their parents. Children with good sense grow up to hate their abusers. 😏
And those stories about Nigerian women migrating to the West and divorcing their husbands? They’re tired of getting beaten like animals and drop their abusers like the rotten, dead weight they are. 😀
Obviously, you and I won’t agree on any of this so my discourse with you on this subject is done. Goodbye
Again you just don't get it, you can argue all you want but it does not change anything. Please look up top 20 high schools in the USA based on SAT scores or whatever educational criteria you like and then come back here to explain that minorities are not dominating that list. I said dominating I did not say all!

So let me get this straight based on your own life experience you can generalize but my own life experience is considered a taboo? The nerve of you people on this forum grin grin grin. You're right, we'll never see eye to eye.....PEACE!

Every nation has it's delinquent. It's one thing to have a rough few and another to have a police force that appeals for bribe openly at every juncture.

That aside, if the goal of beating children is to make better adults and hence society, can you use Nigeria as an example and show us how that has worked out for our society?
Even the police force that you mentioned, the majority of them do not collect bribe openly. The ones on the roads represents less than 10% of the force. Using Nigeria as an example is easy, just look at majority of people that jaapa to foreign countries, what percentage of them are law abiding, hardworking citizens? In the USA, over 70% end up not only excelling in school but they go on to have a very good career.

I tell you honestly now, let Nigeria fix it's insecurity, lack of stable electricity, unemployment, you would see more positive actions from people overall. There's a saying that you never really know the true character of a man until he's backed against the wall, this is the reality of most Nigerians, people doing anything just to survive. What you’re saying is that kidnapping, cultism, Yahoo/fraud/419, theft, misogyny, cultism, killing, sexual abuse, and everything that goes on is considered being well-behaved, right?
Take this board as an example. According to the statistic you gave us, 90% of the monikers on this board were abused as children and many of them can’t participate in a simple discussion about a regular topic without cursing, insulting, threatening, terrorizing, and wishing hurt on people that they don’t agree with or who don’t agree with them. A story about something such as a weather event or a pageant will result in replies filled with death threats, curses, insults about a person’s parents, and so much more. That’s isn’t well-behaved and it definitely isn’t normal.
I know plenty of adults who were born there and migrated here as children or teenagers and a large majority of them suffer from PTSD and are in counseling due to the abuse they faced as children. I have a close friend who moved here when she was 12 and her father beat her so bad from the time she could walk until she left his house, her grandfather gave her beatings, and her brothers were allowed to beat her. If that wasn’t enough, her brothers, cousins, and an uncle molested her when she was a kid and even after spending years in therapy, she refuses to date Nigerian men because she lives in fear of being abused the way she was as a child by every Nigerian man that should’ve protected her. Really sad.
Nothing is normal about abuse and abused children do not turn out to be well-behaved.
I'm sorry to say but you're not being objective you're comparing a public forum with what exactly? How about you go on foxnews.com and check out their forum, if you spend more than 1 hour there before feeling enraged or sad, I'll bend! I'm going to explain this again this time slowly, I'm talking about overall results not just a micro evaluation.

You know plenty that migrated and are suffering from PTSD, please quantify! 10, 20, 50, 100 or 1000? Now compare it to the average American or European kid suffering from the same from drug use or traumatic experience.......You lot love to talk about your own microscopic experiences but refuse to weigh it against the overall stats.

The truth is majority of kids and adults that migrated from Nigeria to the U.S or Europe are well behaved, law abiding, hardworking people, there's nothing to suggest otherwise. Do not be deceived by sensationalism!
