Paul Merson won two league titles, the FA Cup, League Cup and European Cup Winners' Cup with Arsenal. He played for England at the World Cup and European Championship. He has also lost more than £7m to gambling in a life dogged by addiction. In a new film Paul Merson: Football, Gambling & Menow available on BBC iPlayer, the 53-year-old sets out on a journey to try to understand where his compulsion comes from, explores why footballers may be more prone to risk than others, and what may need to be done by companies and the government. During a 21-year career in professional football, Merson moved for transfer fees that topped £12m. When he played for Middlesbrough in the late 1990s, he earned about £20,000 a week. He now lives in rented accommodation with his third wife Kate and their three young children. Merson explains in the film that he has handed over control of his finances to Kate. He spoke to us about his regrets. "Looking back now, it's not the money lost that you regret," he says. "I've been a millionaire and wanted to kill myself. "It's the time you've lost. I've got eight kids that I love very dearly." Merson explains in the film how he is still in the grip of addiction. "I've been addicted to alcohol and cocaine, but by far the most destructive and the only one I'm still struggling with today is gambling," he says. "If I want to get drunk or high, I have to put something up my nose or down me. Gambling's already in you, just waiting constantly, talking to you." Merson relapsed during the lockdown, losing the deposit for a house he and Kate were hoping to move into with their three children. "I'd be sitting on the sofa and I'd look over at the kids," he says. "The hate I had for myself, thinking about how I'd let them down. "The scary thing is you know there's only one outcome, but you can't stop." During the film, Merson catches up with his friend Wes Reid, who played alongside him in his early days at Arsenal. Reid shows him images from club accommodation, where the young men were gambling when playing cards, and recalls Merson would not be able to stop once he had started betting. Through tears, Merson realises how long he's been stuck in addiction. "All through my life, I've never had that off switch," he says. "There's no greater buzz in the whole wide world than scoring a goal. But when I came off the pitch, the difference between me and other people was I needed that buzz to continue." |

Workch:FYI: You seem not to know about the earth's tectonic history. Please observe the maps below as you read this: This is the way the earth looked several millions of years ago. At one point all of these continents were once joined up. This giant landmass known as a supercontinent was called Pangea. The word Pangaea means "All Lands", this describes the way all the continents were joined up together. Pangea existed 240 million years ago and about 200 million years ago it began to break apart. Over millions of years, these pieces came to be the continents as we know them today. With regards to Kangaroos, the oldest known fossil ancestor of today's kangaroos and koalas have been found by scientists. Their mouse-sized ancestor, Sinodelphys szalayai, was found in north-eastern China and is believed to be 125 million years old. My friend, you need to read more. Not because you are oblivious of something doesn't mean it is non-existent. (Nor all distance is absence, not all silence is oblivion). There is beauty in humble silence. Man has not existed for billions of years, hence, the evolution you have stated is a fallacy. As for God, the master of timing and conservation, the perfect time to preserve all animals is to take the prime DNA/RNA when the continents are still one. Have you not read that before the tectonic plates parted, the earth had a universal weather condition- from the time of yore to Noah?

Flamees:Likewise, my mates dripped in things I could only dream of. I stopped logging in to Facebook due to the early stages of depression I felt, and for years now, about 9 years now, I have not logged into Facebook except to read my messages or look for someone through google's help. But today, I can't think of anything they have that I don't have- through the work of my hands. There are many ways of making money even through technology but these guys haven't tried something which you have tried- changing the mindset. (it isn't easy I must say especially when one's parents are the supporters-in-chief of going into yahoo or other crimes). Many people are looking for Keke riders, Uber drivers, dispatch riders, nannies, etc. but there is a scarcity of reasonable youths on our streets. There are many rich people in Nigeria who need people to care for their aged parents and they are ready to pay handsome salaries. But guys want the easiest way out- sleeping, eating, and merriment. If they would not consider paid employment, why don't they get skills for online freelance works, international stocks trading, or even forex trading? There are a lot of things to blame for our convoluted mindset but we must first blame ourselves. |

It’s difficult waking up in the morning as early as 4 a.m and returning sometimes as late as 1a.m all for a job that would never make you achieve your dreams. You then come to a point where you realize you are chasing something that you would never catch up with. Be that as it may, it is no crime to work with one’s hands- Didn’t God make man to work, even toil? Our first daddy was made to name all the animals in the world and we know that for every specie, there are tens to thousands of sub-species and billions of animals in them. When would he have finished? No wonder he needed a help-mate. Today, young men and women want to lie on their back and get their wages, wages of others through deceit. If they are blessed with long life, they’ll see that they spent their youth in emptiness, their names being wiped off like a footprint by the seashore. Is it a crime to get paid 30k for a 300 hour a month job? No! Many who are rich and honorable today started as volunteers in many endeavors. We have a tradition down here that is killing our future- honoring wealth above a good name. It’s so sad. I feel for them. |

BassReeves:Why do men hate good? |
BassReeves:1. The men who were trying the case were also those who had arranged for Jesus’ betrayal. They could in no way be considered an impartial body of jurors. 2. The trial did not begin with a specific charge against Jesus, as Jewish law demanded. Throughout the trial, it was obvious that the Sanhedrin was searching for some kind of evidence that would be sufficient for a charge worthy of the death penalty. 3. The judge who was trying the case was the leader of the prosecution. His statement in John 11:50 clearly revealed his determination to do away with Jesus. 4. No witnesses for Jesus’ defense were produced. No opportunity for Jesus’ defense was allowed. It is said by some, in any trial, the process began by laying before the court all the evidence for the innocence of the accused before the evidence for his guilt was adduced. 5. Finally, the trial was conducted hastily, and thereby violated several regulations concerning the trial of one accused of a capital offense |
BassReeves:Yes, God was killed and is still very dead to many. If He were to rise from the dead and they could lay their hands on Him, they'd kill Him one more time. |
“Therefore, Look! I am sending you prophets and wise men and scribes; some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will flog in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city, so that upon you will fall the guilt of all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous (Matthew 23:34-35) Jeremiah 7:20, 21, 25, 26: Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord Jehovah says, ‘Look! My anger and my wrath will be poured out on this place,...“This is what Jehovah of armies, the God of Israel, says, ‘... So I kept sending all my servants the prophets to you, sending them each day, again and again. ’ But they refused to listen to me, and they did not incline their ear.i Instead, they were stubborn, and they acted worse than their forefathers! Bishopkingsley:I asked you two questions and you did not provide a reasonable response- it leaves a lot to be desired especially from one who calls himself a Bishop, a married saint, one in charge of many churches, are you? I’d like to ask these questions and I pray that one who claims to be able to carry out ordinations, having a full time job of visiting the widows and the fatherless, responds with meekness and sincerity: 1. Before the fall, when God spoke to Adam, what language did He speak converse with and what language did Adam respond with? 2. When God visited Abraham at Mamre, with what language did He speak to Abraham and his wife? 3. When God visited Manoah and his wife, with what language did the couple converse with God in? 4. When God spoke with the “coward” threshing wheat at a wine press, what language did the “coward” pray in? 5. When God spoke on Sinai to the mixed multitude that left the Egypt, people who spoke different languages, in what language did He speak to them and in what language did they respond? Time would not permit me to ask more than these. Whatever you response is, please remember these words: Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. |
Bishopkingsley:How does one say “mother” in tongues? |
Sir, how does someone say “Amen” in tongues? |
Don’t try it. It wouldn’t end well. |

Get married and you’ll gain weight easily |
1. Check your radiator. If it is a single cell type, change to a double cell type. 2. Check the water pump. If it is bad, change it. 3. Change the gasket as the one you have is bad. 4. All the coils should be checked. Bad ones replaced. 5. Scan the car for throttling problems. 6. The AC, belts, and other seals may be affected by the overheating. It should be fine after these things |

Broveens42:The conundrum you face borders on your misunderstanding on the humanity of Christ. If Christ was a man, it is impressed on Him that He must fulfill all the moral law. Your question calls into focus this part of the Law: " "You shall have no other gods before Me..” Broveens42, a man must have a “God”. But which “God” will he serve? Had Jesus not fulfilled the very first of Law because He let His divine nature come into conflict with His humanity, the greatest sin would be pressed against Him- pride. So the scripture says: Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, ...and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself. A professor in a class of undergraduates (as a fellow undergraduate) that poses a question in the class to reveal His “academic level” before the course lecturer or even failing to glorify such a lecturer though he be an equal or his subordinate in the faculty will be charged with what sin? |
Broveens42:You asked a very important question. If you answered mine on a sheet of paper or a mental note, you would have got the answer to your question. I’d like you to read the Gospel of John chapter 10:1-18; if you do, you would get an answer much much better than anyone would give to you. |
Broveens42:What does “God” mean? Who is “God”? How is “God” God? What is “God”? Could you answer these questions, please? |
BassReeves:Do people today have the healing demonstration (gift) recorded in the Acts of Apostle most notably the unsolicited healing act at the “Gate called beautiful”? |
BassReeves:How does God heal/repair/regenerate today aside prayer of faith and the medical system? (We see that the blind man didn’t yell “Jesus” like the blind man who stay by the roadside begging yet he was healed with his eye regenerated) |
Kobojunkie:You really need to calm down. |
BassReeves:Uhm. Do men have the power to heal by laying of hands or mixing of substances together apart from the medical arena? |
