If we want to encourage whistle blowing, I say we go for it. If we want to reward whistle blowing, I say it is a welcomed approach.

What I am against is exalting a crook to the level of a saint. If we call him a repentant thief, I will take it.

However, He is not a saint. He was a crook whose hand got burnt while trying to steal from the oven. He is spilling the crimes they planned and carried out.

He is talking because he is exposed as a thief. Abdulmumin Jibrin does not want to go down alone.

That is just it. He is punishing his fellow crooks who sold him out as a crook.

Just like Dogara dropping Abdulmumin Jibrin, all thieves.

However, I agree whistle blowing is a welcomed thing. But, Abdulmumin Jibrin's own is not like someone who notices corruption to expose it. He got burnt and he is on a revenge mission.
One thing we both agree is that whistle blowing is a good thing. Jibrin's whistle blowing is a good thing no matter his crimes and even very good because he himself gets ropped in it.

I do understand that you dont want anyone to hail him but i think you are wrong in that. No one claims he is a saint. Even Buhari is not a saint. The point is give credit to whom its due. When someone does good and he is hailed, it doesnt mean he is a saint or his sins have been forgiven. His courage is appreciated and even the law acknowledges that by giving such a person a lesser sentence compared to his colleagues in crime. He is an example of courage. You must admit that you might not find another lawmaker who if given the chance will do the same knowing he is digging his own grave.

You should ask yourself this question, the budget was passed in both senate and HoR, if the HoR inserted N100B how much do you think the Senate inserted? Why is the senate so quiet?

The senate is also guilty of the same crime, why is no one ready to blow the whistle in the senate? Its simple, they will not get anything from it. What is Jibrin getting for whistle blowing, nothing or even risking his political career.

You have to give him credit, we all know he is not a saint. Dont beat a dead horse.

Weep not my fellow Nlander! I am never a supporter of any Nigerian politician because non is holy. I called Jibrin a rat because when he was still the chairman of appropriation committee, he never said anything with the info he is feeding us with. How come he waited till he was relieved of his role? The anti graft agencies should hold Jibrin and the padded budget crew. They are all as guilty as the sin. All politicians are dirty and corrupt. You forgot how Jibrin fought tooth and nail for Dogara to be the speaker. He was licking honey then and he remained silent not until now. I don't see the the usefulness of his whistle blow about the padding. They all do it. There is another one called warehousing done by ministers and their various ministries and other government parastatals. Time is coming when the word warehousing will be common as padding. We are observation them
To me, it doesnt matter that he became disgruntled before he came forward. I see whatever they did to him as the fuel to the fire he set on them which is good for Nigerians.

Jibrins final action of exposing the fraud that even himself will be caught in is a good deed. A good deed over rides a bad one but a bad deed can never over ride good one.

When the investigation is complete, all the crimes from the ten to twenty years is exposed. Or the mole was implanted last year to steal money for four years and expose the last year?

The Budget is passed, he took his cut and kept quiet. If it did not bust, he would take for the next years and keep quiet.

This is not a case of mole. This is thief exposing thieves.

You can not spin it. Abdulmumin Jibrin has been corrupt. Got himself to a juicy position to steal more loot. He is a thief. There is no way to spin it. He swallowed constituency projects before. He is exposing none of his underhand dealings in the past.

This is not a mole but an exposed educated thief.
I followed you comments well annd must say i get your over-emphasized point. Jibrin is a thief as well as Dogara and their cohorts.

However, a prostitute washed Jesus's feet and oiled it with the best she could afford. Doing the right thing does not cancel the wrong you have done. The saying that goes, "once a theif, always a thief" does not apply everytime. A theif has a seat with kings, all he needs to do is repent, just like the theif that was crucified with Jesus.

I could not count the number of times you called Jibrin a thief, he is a lesser thief if there is something like that. I certainly prefer a lesser or repentant thief in Jibrin than the head or unrepentant thief and his cohorts in Dogara.

What i have seen from your reactions is the reason why i would never want to be a whistle blower whether clean or not. Because people divert their attention to the toy i stole from my friend forgetting about the murder my friend commited. How does your comments encourage whistle blowing at this time when Nigerians are clamouring for whistle blower act?

I almost wept reading your comment.

I wondered who's side you are on. When two of your enemies fight themselves, i believe you are supposed to be happy. You seem to be displeased with Jibrin that you called him a rat. I want to believe only his partners in crime like Dogara et al should see him as a rat. It beats my imagination that you see him this way unless you are a principal officer of the HoS.

If you are Dogara's supporter, dont you think its time to rethink your support for the role he played in the budget?

This was what GEJ and his wife used to buy all the available land during his tenure. They sold to themselves parks, green areas and hills in posh areas of Abuja. Example is the Maitama hill (ministers hill) and Mpape hills.

These lands are sold to them at unbelievable prices which are riculously cheap.

The most annoying thing is that properties in Abuja are over priced. Like 70% of beautiful houses remain unoccupied because its just not affordable. Only those who have enjoyed conrruption can afford them.
Car Talk › Re: Please Help, How Effective Is Car Pedal And Steering Lock by adanny01(m): 10:00pm On Jul 31, 2016
I think its a very effective tool to slow down a less determined car thief.

There are only 2 ways to steal a car that has this lock, cutting the shaft or unlocking it with a master key. I think, the key is beatable if given time and convenience.

I drive a car with a transponder key, i believe there are only 2 ways to steal the car. That is by swapping the ECU with a jail broken one or by a towing van. In most cases, the car dealer always makes a duplicate key before selling to an unsuspecting customer and picked back anytime within a flash. A mechanic or a friend could have access to duplicate the key too.

One sure way of slowing them down is the pedal/steering lock.

Are you aware that the army and police were notified of the looming herdsmen attack on Enugu?

Are you also aware that neither the army nor the police did anything to stop the attack but when the youths tried to go after the killers the army and police stepped in and arrested them all?
1. When an intelligence is recieved of a planned attack, it is not the entire police or army or the government that takes a decision. Usually, the police commisioner or the governor authorises the police to take any action they deem fit to protect lives. The point is, you cannot blame the entire police for inaction, blame the authorising officer who didnt take action. In Enugu's case the officer was transfered as a form of discipline.

In Plateau state for instance when attacks at a point became daily, you still cannot blame the police because of the nature of topography and settlement cluster/density. The average Plateau man is a farmer and lives in the farm house with his family. That gives an advantage to attackers because one house to another could be as far as a kilometer with no access road for vehicular movement. The security officials dont have numbers to protect every house. Even if they did, attackers come in a number that a 1 or 2 policemen will be decimated with the village.

2. I expect you to have used common sense on the second point you raised.

If your brother slaps you he can be arrested for assault. When you retaliate, you will also be arrested together with him for fighting. Same when a community attacks another, you can only defend yourself from the attack. After the attack if you go on an attack too, you will be arrested.

The law stops us from becoming a lawless society. There are channels to seek vengeance, but the way must not be another crime. Retaliating a crime with another crime means lawlessness. The police and army have the constitutional responsibility to stop lawlessness in any form. The only painful fact is that getting justice in Nigeria is highly difficult.

I come from a state where total breakdown of law and order is a usual occurance. We have been repeatedly stopped from attacking to prevent a lawless situation. There is a movie "The purge: election year". You need to watch it. Those days when communities declare war on others claiming lands and property is over with the coming of civilisation.

The op mentioned how the army killed about 100 militants and I was wondering why they haven't done that to the herdsmen that are destroying Benue.
Herdsmen dont live 2 nights in the same place and travel through terrains that is absolutely difficult to track. In the south, the bush is accessible by the ground through boats but the bushes and mountains in the north are inaccessible from the ground. Our army is not equiped to handle herdsmen, special equipment and training must be given to the army.

Its either you are in support of budget padding or not. It is not a question of integrity, Jibrin has done us (Nigerians) a favour for exposing the rot in the National assembly.

The dust he has raised will also swallow him as an active participant of the budget padding. I really dont care what his intentions or motives are, all i know is the the National assembly is a cesspit of corruption and i hope this scandal will tune the assembly to the anti corruption drive of the president.

On another note, Dogara f...ed up. I also believe Buhari had something against Dogara that he was instructed to sack Jibrin to save hia skin. He should have know better than do that when Jibrin has all to bring him down. In saner climes, a new election should have been in view sequel to the reaignation of the speaker. Dont tell me you will nt use the trainhuh just because it was built by GEj and inaugurated by buhari just bcoz u hate himhuh
To also be sincere, all the power stations GEJ went about commissioning were all OBJ's projects almost completed before the end of his tenure. Yaradua awarded the power projects that are on going right now. GEJ didnt award any. The nature of power projects is that you award and pay up to 80% within the 1st year which comprises of 10% engineering (design) and 70% equipment procurement and the balance of 20% is paid as milestones during construction. This means that GEJ also just paid balance and commisioned just like bubu paid balance and commisioned.

In fact, we can technically say Yaradua made this project because he negotiated and agreed with the chinese for this project, he died before awarding the project.

At least Bubu has budgeted for 2 rail projects while commisioning 1.

The point am trying to make is that Nigerians should only appreciate the FG not who awarded or commissioned a project. This project would have stalled if Bubu didnt desire to see it finished. Lets encourage Bubu to start the two on the budget and will not matter who commisions it.

You see, when you say stuff like Ban tokumba tyres puts you in same l ine as FRSC guys, why ban? even in the wes we buy used tyres, there are shops whom sell used tyres gotten from accident or scrapped cars.these tyres have the legal thread limits.Anyone who drives abroad can attest to this dont just take my word for it google used tyres in teh USA or UK. http://www.usedtyres.org.uk/
When i mentioned ban on tokumbo tires you tag me like someone who supports illegality. Its not me who banned tokumbo tires, its not the FRSC that banned tokumbo tires, its the Federal Goverment of Nigeria. I totally support them.

As far as am concerned, used tire and tokumbo tire is not the same thing. Are the used tires found in the US or UK used locally or imported in used condition? FRSC has the statistics that implies that majority of highway accidents in Nigeria are caused by mainly 2 factors; overspeeding and tire blowout. Most of the blow outs are related to tokumbo tires and incorrect tire pressure. What do you think a responsible government should do.

No one stops anyone from buying a used tire but the 95% of tokumbo tires are 5years and above. They use the better part of the tire and give use the dangerous lifespan of the tire with extra burden of disposal. Some tires are imported damaged already and never get to be used for 1km. For every brand new tire manufactured or imported into Nigeria, we are stuck with waste, why import what you will just use for six months then have the disposal responsibility? Same applies to electrical appliances that have compressors using the toxic R12 refrigerant.

The used tires in places like US and UK is not the same grade with the ones imported into Nigeria. They enforce thread limits while we dont. So a tire that is below limit is shipped to Nigeria. Why? Can you import such tokumbo tires to the US or UK? Why?

Its very simple, a tire that is below thread limit is a non-biodegradable toxic waste. Tires are not directly recycled so poses a disposal problem. While US and UK have laws preventing improper disposal such as tire burning which affects the environment, we dont. So we burn the tires and use the steel plys as binding wire for construction and other stuff. The only proper way to dispose a tire is by digging the ground and burying it (i did a landfill research on toxic waste disposal in school).

These countries want an easy way out so they ship it to underdeveloped countries like Nigeria, we use the useless tires for 6months to a year and then have the responsibility to dispose it (for them) which affects our environment and the lifes of our children yet unborn.

Why would an American use the useful part of the life of the tire say 90% and hands it over to us as crumbs of 10% with all the negatives of disposing it. Why would i, an educated Nigerian support the evil of bringing tokumbo tires into our country.

Thats what i meant by saying that the "thread is the only enforceable factor to consider". Expiry dates and manufacturing brand cannot be enforced. Infact, the FRSC is struggling to enlighten car users of ban on used or tokumbo tires but has been difficult.

Wrong again! In the united states this is disputed! Tyres dont have a fixed expiry date, they are rather inspected for wear of thread depth.

What u guys dont understand is that the so called new tyres imported from china are substandard and are prone to blow up without provocation.
The truth is that expiry date of tires is not enforceable because very many different factors that cause degradation of rubber which the tire is made of. Heat for example is a major factor so weather is a main factor. It means 4years expiry in country A could be 5 years in B and 6 in C. Within the US a lone, on standard expiry date cannot be enforced. This is just one factor, when you account for other factors, its nearly impossible to get a specific date not that the tire will not expire at a point in time. Like i said in this thread, its not the expiry of tires that is in contention but the expiry period.

Thread is the only enforceable factor to consider. It is highly advised that from 4 years and above, tires of that age become dangerous as the guarantee is well off.

Just like someone mentioned above, its better to buy a new china substandard tire than buy a 10year old standard Michelin tire or its equivalent. If you know chemistry, you will know better.
Car Talk › Re: I Just Saw Why your car ABS Can Save your Life. by adanny01(m): 3:34pm On Jul 22, 2016
My friend and i had a similar experience a month ago. One of the ABS sensors has been having small issues since a mechanic cut the harness. The wire was only connected by twist and taped with electrical tape insulator. Every time work is done on the wheel the wire disconnects. This time it was disconnected and my friend planned to solder the wires so that the joint will be stronger. Having no much time, he kept driving the car with ABS light on the dash knowing its just a simple wire he can work himself.

This fateful rainy morning, we were not going to work late and in a hurry on the popular Kubwa express in Abuja. He was doing 140km/h, approaching a corner with a car in front and a pool of water with not very good set of tires. He applied brakes and the tires instantly locked with no ABS, skidding out of control to the open drains. We hit the side kerbs which sent us drifting towards the median missing it by whiskers before coming to a stop after several drifts left and right. It was only the alloy wheel that took the hit but i had to point out to my friend how the series of carelessness almost killed us or destroyed his car.

Hello Nairalanders,

Please I need your help. I've been in need of Corolla 05, but last week, I was shown a used Peugeot 407 car that has just been painted once but still clean and sharp. I was told it was bought last August and that the papers are still valid. On the dashboard monitor, I saw faulty ABS and airbag, the seller said they are working but the computer didn't capture them. He told me it's just the horn that is the problem but I noticed the shocks are not too good.

I'm new to cars, please what does this suggest about the ride and what to look out for before parting with my hard-earned money.

I also want to know how difficult it is to maintain Peugeot cars compared to Hunda and Toyota. Please your views will be greatly appreciated...
I smell an accidented car. Honda and toyota is like driving in the day, peugeot is like driving in a rainy night. Not that all peugeot are bad, its better to buy a peugeot in good condition than to buy a lemon disguised as an orange. Once a seller starts lying, there will be more lies. You do not want a hole in your pocket.

Dont let that con man get to your money. Find what you set your heart towards and you will find peace.

But please, help us further and tell us few countries where tire expires 4 years from date of manufacture.

I think the manufacturers should be mandated to indicate expiry date since they know the material composition and processes to manufacturing tire.

My submission!
I think part of the reason that they cannot stamp an expiry date is because various factors affect the expiry date. A tire exposed to heat or moisture would degrage faster. so it could expire before the expiry date stamped on the tire.

A car whose tire becomes flat on it and parked on the soil for a long time say 2years will expire in no time.

We educated ones must not allow this ompunity
Tyre swear out base on usage . A new tyre with over 100,000km within a year will age faster and need replacement compared to a one with five years and just 50,000km
What FRSc can do is to inspect for wears and tears not date of lanufacturing
That is the practice world wide
It took me some minutes to articulate a reply for you. Did you actually read my post before quoting or insinuating things i didnt say?

Can you requote the part i said all tyres have an expiry date. I did mention i have seen 4, 5 and 6 years and am no more sure which is correct. Where else did you insinuate your post from? In fact i have seen in some researches saying 10yrs and even more but i made mention of the fact that it will be wrong for FRSC to peg an expiry date because they cannot prove it.

I ask again, did you read my post before quoting and writing things i think you have no idea about. If you had an idea you will tell me something about oxidation which i attributed to as the cause of chemical degredation of any rubber that is exposed to air (oxygen), water and heat. If you think i dont know, please try to sound a little more intelligent than me. If you have an opinion, is not a crime to state it but try to make sense of other peoples opinion because you might be wrong.

I wont close without telling you that a worn out tire is a different scenerio to a degraded (otherwise called expired) tire. When your new tire threads wear out within a year, FRSC will arrest you for driving with a worn out tire. A tire can be degraded right from the shop before you buy it, even before it ever enters a rim.

Last year i lost a new tire to serious puncture by a protruding reinforcement. I went to a tire dealer and wanted the same brand and size of tire to replace the one that got damaged. The man had the tire but its manufacturing date was 2 years ago. I asked him for a discount for it he said he wont sell it no matter how much i paid. He was returning it to factory as they dont sell tires with considerable life gone.

There are alot of things that degrade or expire but Nigerians dont take into account. Even strong stable well built buildings degrade, how many people know.

If you buy a degraded tire, i just pray for safe journey for you but i who is enlightened know the risk you are taking. Because FRSC does not have laws backing tire expiry does not mean tires dont expire. How long tires take to expire is what is of contention not whether it expires or not!
