I dont blame the man, this is about saving his own neck, how do you expect him to explain it in march if the subsidy goes back to being about 100billion in this first quarter? Nigerians will call for his head so it is better for him to remove it and no one will ever know.
Just got a call from a freind(High ranking member) that OPC is secretly planning to attack any non-south westner residing in south west. This was against the back drop of threats issued by Boko Haram and Mossob. I think things is about to get uglier.

He said those Nigeria bound weapons intercepted  in Ghana was the last "goods" they are expecting to to complete 17000 armed mercenaries willing to engage any defaulter. I just need to pass it round cos i detest unnessary blood shed. I just hope'd he is not a Nairalander, cos he warned me about going public with the news.

Reliable Phone Calls.
It is a lie, opc issued a statement denying it

The Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) and the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) said on Thursday, in Lagos, that people or organisations attempting to create ethnic confrontation between the two bodies would fail.

The declarations by both the OPC and the AYCF were made on the heels of speculations of planned attacks by OPC on Hausa communities in Lagos.

OPC founder, Dr Frederick Fasheun described the speculations as fabrications and dangerous concoctions aimed at creating an unnecessary crisis in the country.

``It is not true. There is no crisis whatsoever between the OPC and any other groups of people in Nigeria,’’ he said.

In his reaction, the National Coordinator of the OPC, Chief Gani Adams, described the speculations as very far from the truth.

Adams, who spoke through his media aide, Mr Sam Sileola, said that there was no reason for such speculations.

``We are aware of the text messages on the planned attacks. We have never planned such a thing,’’ he said.

Sileola said that Adams was currently attending a conference in Ireland.

According to him, OPC members and their leaders have Hausa friends, such as the President of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, Alhaji Yerima Shettima, who is himself, a good friend of Adams.

In a separate interview with NAN, Shettima urged Nigerians of northern extract, who are resident in Lagos, not to fall for the blackmail.

Add these 2 comments together plus this article, plus Madueke claiming yesterday that our refineries are working at 50%-60% capacity (never mind she said 30% @ d town hall meeting). Are we really paying subsidy? If yes, on what %tage of our consumption? Definitely not 100% and not even 300billion not to mention 1.3 trillion.

How are we sure those supposedly "very huge vessels" that can't berth at our port but discharge products to smaller vessels ain't coming from PH?

Just wondering,  abacadabra?  undecided undecided undecided wink
Actually some of them load in Bonny and sts i.e. ship to ship transfer on high sea than the petrol is bought into Lagos as imported fuel.

I was reliably informed that the Labour leaders with the civil liberty organisations were offered cash to the tune of N1B to fight for the reversal of the PMS price by the so called cabal. the most annoying part of the whole stuff is the use of innocent or should i say gullible nigerians to drive home their evil intentions. we have to come to terms with reality; the world economy is in tatters and if we want to survive, we must take some drastic steps to salvage our fragile economy!

it is very unfortunate that GEJ came to govt at a time like this but the man can become a hero if he guides his actions to steer nigeria's economy away from hitting the rocks. what we are witnessing today is a cummulative evil activities of all our past leaders.

we should be sincere; prices of commodities everywhere in the world are going up even in more stable economies! what Labour is doing today is not for the nigerian people but for their pockets. we all know that this subsidy must go whether we like it or not.
if we revert back to N65/l, we will shoot ourselves in the foot cos PMS will disappear from the streets and we will suffer for it.

i think what Labour and the civil organisations should be fighting is corruption within the nigerian system: NASS salaries should be cut, irrelevant ministries and ministers should be scrapped, the presidency should cut down its spendings, federal allocation spendings should be monitored, our refineries should be restored to capacity, we should work on being a producing economy than being a consuming economy and many more.

it is easier to fight the govt when you are not there cos there are many hidden truths you cannot see from outside. also, our govt must be honest to its followers, they should not train the people to see the govt as dishonest and untrusted.
Yea right, did they give Femi falana, Femi Kuti, Funmi iyanda and a host of others

Very Important-Please broadcast - Petroleum Marketers are fighting back by exposing some of the subsidy deals.

They say Nigeria must know that Haruna Momoh the MD of PPMC and Deziani Allison Madueke Minister for Petroleum has been demanding and pocketing N50 per litre of Kero and petrol produced by local Refineries since Jan 2011 till date. The reason they gave to marketers is that it was marketers contribution to Jonathan's election, but it has continued even after the elections.

That the govt should probe Nezor SA and Tridax SA  two companies owned by the Peroleum Minister run by her junior brother. This two companies in the last 16 month of her tenure has from nowhere become one of the few companies lifting crude oil and one of the largest beneficiary of the subsidy.

The marketers want Nigeria to probe the new list of briefcase companies now lifting crude oil because they paid minimum of $1 million to Momoh and Deziani.

I think we hv started seeing the real faces of the cabals!

I'm not interested in making any excuses and I will appreciate if people with analytical minds can come into this thread and do justice also. As you've noticed, smuggling / corruption is included in my list.
Going forward, let's look at the case of cars imports for example. Recall GEJ relaxed the age limit for importing cars. That must have had a direct impact on number of cars getting into the country. Imagine how many people bought up "fuel guzzlers" that were being dumped cheaply in the US. Last year alone, I got 2 SUVs for myself. For a quick check, go to autos section here on nairaland and study how people have bought more SUVs / gasoline trucks et al from the dealers there. Maybe we can even ask people like inspired to give us an idea in terms of % increase in sales for 2011. (Indicating % increase in SUV sales) etc.

One more thing in addition to all I have listed earlier. The absence of queues from our filling stations all year round without much efforts put into plugging the borders coupled with the increase in number of importers points to the fact that FG tried to flood the market to prevent scarcity. That's another factor too.

Pls remember, I'm not interested in justifying the increase. I am only playing the role of an analyst with limited info within my reach.

Thanks
Yes that's true but if you have two cars, you can't drive both at the same time, so your fuel consumption remains relatively the same. And you have not taken into account the number of cars written off in accidents.

The minister knows that if any other person is appointed as petroleum minister and the amount for subsidy reduces, there will be a probe into why it rose to 1.4 trillion in 2011 that is why they want the subsidy removed while they are still in power so they can crush any inquiry that might come up. You people should answer these questions and I will be a pro- FG:

Why was Obasanjo able to pay off our national debt worth billions of dollars while retaining fuel subsidy?
Why was Obasanjo able to build up our foreign reserves into billions of dollars while subsidy was still on?
Why did Obasanjo still launch some projects, like satellite, while subsidy was on?
Why was subsidy money in the billions while others were in government but went into trillions just few months into Jonathan`s government?
Why were the implicated subsidy beneficiaries(oil cabals) not punished by Jonathan?

The government cannot punish them cause the cabal will not go down alone afterall they make monthly remittance to some ministers who issued them the license. They realized that they were in too deep when the total subsidy increased by moe than 300% to 1.3 trillion and came up with the story of an untouchable cabal. They can't prosecute them cause they will be implicated too.

Trust is earned and this years budget does not invoke trust in people and the way gej came up saying he was cutting 25 percent of basic salaries shows that he really underestimates the intelligence of the average Nigeria. Fuel subsidy has to go, we get that but government officials have to be paid has civil servants then we will know who is really serious about serving this country.
PoliticsRe: Why Is The Protest So Intense In The West And North? Why Are They Bitter? by ade80: 8:21am On Jan 10, 2012
Since the landing cost is actually 138, they can also decide to sell to countries like Ghana at 180 and make about 40naira per liter. So either way, the so called cabal goes free

abes:
I have heard that one of reasons for fuel subsidy removal is to stop oil marketers from getting free money from the government, some even say its a way to punish the marketers. But the reality is that these marketers are still making the same amount of money (after subsidy removal).
Here is a rough breakdown;

pre-subsidy removal:
govt subsidy - N75
pump price - N65
Total - N140

post-subsidy removal:
govt subsidy - N0
pump price - N140
Total - N140

Therefore the cabals still smile to the banks while the masses suffer.

Some are even saying the marketers are instigating the nationwide protests, I ask, why would they do that when they have nothing to lose.
PoliticsRe: So Is The Protest A Success Or A Failure? by ade80: 12:37am On Jan 10, 2012
A lot of people don't realize the enormity of the issues on ground.
The rich can afford to buy at 200, they won't feel it much.
The middle class might have to cut down on expenses and stay in darkness to cut down fuel costs
Business owners will increase their prices and pass the cost to consumers
The people really affected here are the low income earners.
Imagine a driver earning 30,000 with a family, things were tough before now, things will be impossible.

Which of the wrongs are you talking about
1. Govt refusing to catch the cabal and make them return the money stolen
2. Outrageous allowances paid to elected officers to do the job they volunteered for
3. Putting the burden on the people rather than fighting the cabal
4. Encouraging corruption by looking the other way rather than prosecuting the corrupt nnpc and dpr officials who falsify papers
5. Saying buying buses will cushion the amount of money I spend buying petrol for generator.

Ok, subsidy increased by over 300% to 1.4 trillion in 2011 and govt says a cabal was responsible, and the only way to stop the cabal is to increase fuel prices thereby forcing 150million naijas to pay for the sins of the cabal that the govt know but are afraid to confront. We want the price to be reverted and the cabal made to refunded the 1trillion govt paid them.
Although me I feel the amount i.e 1.4 t was also due to the fact that last year was an election year and uncle Joe needs to refuel his purse

He should work on power generation so we don't have to spend alot of money on fueling generators, then there will be more money for people to invest which will impact positively on the economy.
He should work on the ports, ships bringing in fuel don't berth at our ports cause we don't have the capacity for them, so the berth on the high seas and discharge fuel to smaller ships who bring them to the port. This makes it easy for petroleum marketeer to falsify papers and divert fuel to other countries

National assembly spent about 1 trillion last year, that should be reduced by 40%, government officials should buy their own newspapers and fuel their cars themselves, overseas training should be cut down, ghost workers should be eradicated, contract price should stop being inflated and the true quantity of fuel brought in should be ascertained so we stop paying subsidy for fuel that was not brought into the country in the first place.
