@TayoD,

What is that politically incorrect and morally correct view or position that you have that makes you address contrary views as politically correct even when they are morally correct too?

Are all bomb makers muslims that you have to resort to abusing Allah and turning the issue into a religous one?

No one is asking you to apologise, you may only end up being wrong yet again just as you were when you claimed that the pre mid-term elections polls were not true reflections of the views of Americans and claimed that majority of Americans supported Bush, I guess the results put paid to ther needless debate.

You seem as if you are filled with religous hatred and it is bad, simple

And already, an unconfirmed report has led to abuse of a religion already, this is really disgusting.

Must people see things via a religious prism all the time?
Foreign AffairsRe: Should George Bush Also Face Trial? by Afam(m): 11:06am On Nov 27, 2006
It is commonly assumed that when a lie is told over and over again that people may passively accept it as truth.

The statement by 4 Play that every single poll conducted in Iraq favours the invasion of Iraq is a blatant lie.

While I have not been to Iraq before neither do I watch Al Jazeera, CNN have reported results of polls and surveys carried out in Iraq regarding the invasion and the results showed that many Iraqis were in favour of the invasion in the early days of the invasion and over 60% have consistently voted against the invasion at least for the past 7 months mainly due to the level of carnage in the country.

While trying to make our points we must avoid going overboard with statements that are flat wrong or at best misleading.
Foreign AffairsRe: Should George Bush Also Face Trial? by Afam(m): 6:52pm On Nov 24, 2006
Which innocent people dying in Iraq are you talking about? Have you the facts that US led troop in Iraq are responsible for the casualty? I hate aguements not based on facts.
The reproduced post above is as stupid as it is senseless.

That a human being will have the shameless guts to ask if innocent people are dying in Iraq is really mind boggling.

And the poster uses a byline - To God be the glory, what mockery of our God. Little wonder even those that call God commit the worst crimes in the land.

Hi Nilla,

Quite a long time, took a well deserved break as I was spending too much time on discussion frums when I needed to tidy up projects.

Missed honest contributions from people like you though and I actually decided the best way to keep away was for me not to even visit the forum as visiting the forum will always make one reply especially when certain positions are canvassed even with the attendant emotions, bias, subjectivity and objectivity.

Will do you an IM soon, take care and stay blessed.

Meanwhile, I was extremely happy when the results of the mid term elections started coming in. It showed that Americans were capable of seeing through the many lies of their president, a man that is responsible for increasing the state of insecurity in the whole world even with his arrogance and lies.

Enjoy!
Foreign AffairsRe: Should George Bush Also Face Trial? by Afam(m): 1:47pm On Nov 24, 2006
Trials ke? He does not need that, he needs to go straight to jail as his lies are obvious.

I am surprised that the Nigerias that were ready to fight on behalf of Bush and the US have not deemed it fit to defend the man after his own people voted against the republicans and were his seat on the line he would have been long gone.

Basically, any hotel that has a web presence should be able to show the public the services it offers while making it possible for people to order/make reservations on the site.

The site my2cents referenced is ok because you get to know a lot about the hotel but again these info may be general.

That said, there must be preferences in terms of functionalities and if the hotel isn't stating them then you should prompt them or ask them, this will protect you because if you do not agree on the scope you may end up being required to develop a yahoo out of a simple proposal for a hotel.

I have not setup a site for a hotel before but should the need arise the hotel will state in clear terms what it wants and being a programmer I can do whatever they want done online based on their requests.

Take care.

Any good tool if mastered very well can be used to deliver very high quality jobs.

Otherwise, let those that believe that certain tools are better stake their money and point to a neutral work and let the proponents and opponents attempt to use their tools to replicate.
WebmastersRe: Website Critices by Afam(m): 11:44am On Nov 18, 2006
@smartsoft,

No two business enitities may have exactly the same needs.

As regards the hotel proposal, until you have a clear picture of the requirements any proposal you send may either help or harm you in terms of the cost implications because you may spend more or less depending on the actual work involved.

My advice, ask the owner or the person in charge to list all they want on the website while advicing them on the features and functionalities that may make sense to them.

I am glad you are programmer so it the task goes beyond basic design which i see a lot of people focus on you can web enable any business process they as you to web enable.

I never ever present a proposal for a job unless I have a very clear understanding of the requirements, expectations and deliverables.

Also putting together a small yet effective contract when you agree on anything will help otherwise you may end up becoming the company's inhouse web manager who will be expected to carry out endless small changes or updates on the site.

Enjoy!
WebmastersRe: Website Critices by Afam(m): 12:03pm On Nov 17, 2006
Color combination isn't bad but you have atleast 89kb of information on that single page, not ideal in my opinion.

About the hotel stuff, you need a programmer that will enable any business process that the hotel might come up with unless you and the hotel are only interested in static web pages which are almost useless for such line of businesses where people require timely and current information to make urgent decisions.

Technology MarketRe: Alternative To PHCN! by Afam(m): 6:42pm On Nov 14, 2006
Well setup inverters are very reliable, I do not have any generator in my office neither do I use the one I have at home unless I need to start it once in a while so it doesn't packup and I never run out of power supply.

The part concerning fire harzard is based on the likelihood of getting one that is not designed properly, remember that the unit works every single day so you know what to expect if it's a faulty one.

Turning to solar is far from the solution because solar is the most expensive form of power generation and in most cases you still need an inverter to convert the native dc to ac that your appliances use.

Unless you are ready to pay for solar panels with integrated inverters which will still be terribly expensive.

The power situation in Nigeria is such that with a properly designed alternative energy solution you can spend years without ever using a generator and yet enjoy uninterrupted power supply.

Hope the information above makes sense especially as regards your question.
WebmastersRe: Building A Search Engine Like Google by Afam(m): 6:34pm On Nov 12, 2006
No online business will become a great success by copying or depending on another online business for success.

What about creating a site that will bring Nigerians to it every single hour of the day either for business, pleasure, knowledge, news etc?

What about building a site that integrates almost everything that people find useful on the internet while focusing on the Nigerian market?

This is easy to do even though it takes time.

This is what I am doing now and will be done in 3 weeks maximum.

It is very very vital and necessary for us to have a site where everything about Nigeria can be found and every Nigerian can make use of and more importantly be able to solve problems using the website.
ComputersRe: Announcing Google Nigeria by Afam(m): 6:27pm On Nov 12, 2006

Just typed web designers and the results are as irrelevant as they useless to one looking for web designers in Nigeria.
WebmastersRe: How To Market My PHP And MySQL Skills by Afam(m): 6:21pm On Nov 12, 2006
No, you do not need to tell anybody that you are a web designer with any skills, you need to build applications that people can use and if they are happy they will contact you.

Seems crazy but that is the surest way to sell your skills.

A lot of people are claiming to know everything and most people are not ready to gamble their way trying web designers without any portfolios whatsoever.
Technology MarketRe: Alternative To PHCN! by Afam(m): 6:19pm On Nov 12, 2006
Inverter technology is straightforward and easy to understand but the simplicity is basically the main reason for many bad inverters.

It takes real understanding to protect the unit, the personnel and the loads it is intended to power.

There is just a thin line between a reliable inverter and another fire harzard in your house.

I think it is wrong for you to label someone a scavenger to stating what he/she will take to do a job.

You may choose to do the job for free while another may choose to charge even N100k, the onus lies on the person to make a choice.

While pointing out that the so called "scavenger" registered to make extort someone else, do you also notice that the original poster also registered to make jst 1 post?

The poster contacted me and I told him that I will charge him N20,000.00 to set up one for him and since then he keeps asking me to go ahead with stories like "I will be coming back to Nigeria in 10 days", "I have about $10,000.00 in my account but no naira", "please this is urgent, ok which account number should I pay the money into"

Let us be careful the way we accuse others as no one has offered to dupe the original poster yet and there is no guarantee that those who may elect to do this for free will deliver either.
PoliticsRe: Governor Fayose Finally Impeached by Afam(m): 5:26pm On Oct 16, 2006
When there is a conflict of interest honorable men/women will opt out of any judicial arrangement. The former chief judge was reported to be a relation of the governor and he constituted a panel that absolved the governor of all the charges even when there were serious issues under 48hrs.

While the governor may have the right to appoint or fire a chief judge, we must promote a system where powerful individuals do not take a whole state for granted.

The Chief Justice of the federation I believe does not have the right to intefere in a matter that has not been brought before the supreme court.

In any case, who will the governor govern if majority of the law makers want him out? This is democracy so whether for good reasons or for bad we must remember that majority carries the vote anyday.

This is the same reason why I believe that democracy is not about what is right or what is wrong, rather it is a game of numbers.
PoliticsRe: Governor Fayose Finally Impeached by Afam(m): 2:59pm On Oct 16, 2006
With the level of corruption that is eating deep into the very fabric of Nigeria every single step that is taken (without any loss of life) is welcome.

It is sad to note that many do not realise that victims of corruption may be faceless but the small children that rush to clean windshields of cars when they should be in school or the able bodied young man that sell pure water are just a small part of the type of damage that corruption leaves behind anytime they strike.

Good bless Ribadu. Kudos to EFCC. Anyone that hates the work of the EFCC even with the level of corruption in Nigeria must have a lot of skeletons to hide and is an enemy of Nigeria.

Nigeria must be fixed and Nigerians must do the fixing.

PoliticsRe: Obasanjo The Greatest President Nigeria Has Ever Had by Afam(m): 9:35am On Oct 16, 2006
@adconline,

You seem not to get my position on this.

All the sectors in Nigeria that appeal to foreigners have foreigners operating in them.

The reason why I asked you to state the sectors that require DFI is for us to know what the DFI will bring to the table.

You stated Health - now, do you honestly believe that Nigeria cannot revitalize the health sector completely without foreign investors?

You seem to forget that the problem we have in Nigeria does not run in a straight line. From corruption to incompetence to lack of sincerity of purpose.

The government has failed to protect its citizens, instead they protect foreigners who come in here and rip Nigerians off.

As regards Vodacom you mentioned I hope you understand that Vodacom initially rejected any form of business dealing in Nigeria until its position in Africa was threatened by MTN that made a profit in 1 year that surpassed what it made in SA for 5 years.

What was responsible for that? Have you forgotten that Vodacom wanted to get into the Nigerian market through the back door but for litigations and serious objections up to international level?

And you tell me market has nothing to do with with, my dear market has everything to do with investments unless you are talking about businesses that run as charities.

Correct me if I am wrong, I believe that Nigeria does not need DFI to make progress. I am equally aware that text book stuff and economic gurus may differ based on what they read. But again it is about reality, it is about what happens after all the sweet words have been spoken, it is about people consuming what may have been produced. Population (market) is key and any producer of any product will be willing to sell where the market is.

Sorry fot the late response, I decided to take a keep away from the internet for a whole day.

It seems to me that you are bereft of ideas on foreign direct Investment. Do you know the difference between Microsoft in Nigerian and Microsoft in South Africa with a domain name - microsoft.co.za, nokia.co.za, bmw.co.za, daimlerchrysler.co.za etc, We are in desperate need of foreign investments. It has kept China going, because it has maintained a double-digit growth rate, which surpasses that of the US, EU and Japan combined. Lesotho, and Botswana are major suppliers of clothing wares to some of the companies in the USA from Africa. Botswana is the least corrupt country in Africa. Maintained the highest growth rate in the continent last year. They have a visionary leadership by Festus Mogae, an Oxford trained economist. GNI per capita: US $5,180. with no oil.
Ministers are not allowed to travel with over $1000 BTA

Standard Bank Group in S/Africa has a workforce of 39,080.  Some of these companies come to Nigeria and rent some apartments hoping for a lucrative government contract. They don’t have real presence in Nigeria.  Remember Sagem and National ID fraud likewise Halliburton
@adconline,

I may be bereft of ideas on DFI, but I am not as dumb as trying to tie domain names to the level of investment in a country.

What you have stated to support your points have nothing to do with DFI but has everything to do with government policies as regards protecting the citizens vs protecting the interests of these foreign companies.

With the population alone, the Nigerian market accounts for over 2/3 of the African market, even in the area of telecoms. MTN made a profit of over N60B about 2 years ago, far more than all the banks in Nigeria put together.

Answer the simple question, what are the viable sectors you think foreign companies are not investing in as far as Nigeria is concerned?

I am not interested in acronyms, buzz words and tech jargons, tell us in a very simple language what you think we are missing.

I won't be surprised though if you fail to understand the issue at hand.

omofineboy:
@Afam

Most of these supposedly "foreign Investors" are actually tourists, how many companies have they establsihed that improve Nigerian economy, Kudos to Donald Duke for Obudu Ranch Resort, most of them are tourists check this fact. What can you do when you don't have electricity lets be factual please.
@Omofineboy,

These companies are allowed to rip off Nigerians, in terms of making money they are making quite a lot. Even with the electricity problem I hope you know what MTN did in terms of making money even with MTN installing generators at their base stations.

No doubt things could be better if we had a stable power supply but in reality the problem of electricity affects our own internal development "engine" more than it affects foreigners.
PoliticsRe: Obasanjo The Greatest President Nigeria Has Ever Had by Afam(m): 2:19pm On Oct 14, 2006
Could someone please state very clearly the sectors in Nigeria that requires foreign investment for the benefit of Nigeria and Nigerians.

The last time I checked, almost all the sectors that are money spinners have foreing interests and they keep coming by the day.

The sheer number of foreigners trooping into Nigeria on a daily basis should make one wonder what all these talks about the environment not being condusive for investment.

The oil companies are here, the GSM companies are here, Nokia and co are here, Zimbabwean "white" farmers are here, furniture, IT, drugs and what have you.

Let us focus less on buzz words and face the real issues.

Intel, Microsoft etc are trying to get a strong footing because the Nigerian market is a huge opportunity for any business man.

Anything that is not offensive, derogatory, insultive, dangerous to the forum itself and the users should be the focus and not mundane issues like location.

But again this is a private forum so the owner has the right to do waht he wants on his forum.

@Timmy,

Thanks for the comments on the site, they are duly noted.

As regards the exact design, this is based on what the client wants.

All I wanted to test was the functionality.

By the way, you still need to work on how you use a public forum because you find it difficult to handle such comments when they are directed at you. The last time I checked you resorted to insults only to apologise privately.

It is better to avoid certain things than for you to do them (in public) and apologise later (in private).

Sincere advice to you man. grin

It will be better for me not to comment on this topic; but I can clearly see or tell that many many folks truly do not understand many many things. And it is sad, because they think they do, but they absolutely have no clue.
Since you do understand many many things why don't you make those things clear to us rather simple do an image laundering for IBB and campaign against OBJ.

Since you also have all the clues, bring them on so that others can make sense of them.

We don't want people thinking for us, we want to think based on information that is available, everyone may not have access to priviledged information but it is the duty of those that do to bring them to the public domain so that others will benefit.

One thing is very certain though OBJ is head above shoulders over IBB in terms of fighting corruption and the facts are there for all to see.
PoliticsRe: Obasanjo The Greatest President Nigeria Has Ever Had by Afam(m): 4:19pm On Oct 13, 2006
It's funny how a thread that calls for facts and specifics on any issue sees a lot of bashers disappear.

I am sure if this thread came with a title like OBJ is a thief, we may have been seeing up to 5 pages by now.

OBJ is certainly not a saint, he has a lot of questions to answer especially for being both the president and oil minister since 1999.

EFCC no doubt is selective but such selective fight is 100% better than no fight at all.

I do agree with the originator of this thread, OBJ has risen to the challenge and even though he is equally corrupt he has done better than all the presidents that Nigeria ever had.
PoliticsRe: Mike Adenuga Major Financier Of The Obj Library by Afam(m): 3:24pm On Oct 13, 2006
For the simple fact that OBJ was even bold enough to expose his enemies on corruption, I perefer that to what we used to have in the past.

How many of us will jail our friends and relations for corruption when our enemies are walking free based on the same corruption.

We are trying to be idealistic in matters that cannpot be ideal.

EFCC even with its selective fight against corruption is 100% better that what we have seen in the past.
