clefstone: Aboh remained neutral during the war. Yes, some Abohs living in PH and d East fought for Biafra but some others fought for the Federal troops. Today, we don't have the Biafra sentiments like the Igbo's do, we really don't care. The Igbo's keep telling their children how the Yoruba's are betrayers, how the middle belters were used by the Hausa-Fulanis etc, all because of that war. It is a sentiment shared by majority of Igbo's and it defines your people now. It affects their way of life and politics, it's become an Igbo thing. These are sentiments we do not share. While I will never judge the Igbo's for having these sentiments, the issues do not bother my people. Read about the Asaba massacre Are you saying that it's all Igbos that fought on the Biafran side? Are you saying that Asaba people also share this narrative like Igbos across the naija? Are you saying that ethnicity is borne out of an event rather than similarities in culture and traditional. |

clefstone: I love your argument and agree with most of what u have written. However, you seem to be reasoning along with me.
Yes, the Igbo's are not a homogenous people, but political events, particularly of the last 100 years have united them and is greatly closing the gaps and no other event has defined the Igbo's more than the civil war. 100years ago, the term Igbo mostly referred to the spoken language and not to an ethnic group per say. The people of the various clans that make up what today is called Igbo land most likely did not refer to themselves as Igbo, some explicitly rejected being tagged as Igbo. However, political events following Nigeria's colonization changed the dynamics. Most of these people united as an umbrella Igbo ethnic group. The whole politics culminated in the civil war which helped in strengthening the Igbo union even more. The tragedy of war as suffered by the Igbo's came to be a common history of the various Igbo sub groups. Those igboid groups that were not directly involved in the war don't share this history and may not be Igbo enough. This is the reason y d Asaba man, a victim of the civil war will identify proudly as Igbo but an Agbor man would not You know, i have nothing against anyone choosing to call themselves whatever they choose. But what i hate is falsehood. So, Asaba is Igbo because they were directly involved in the war? So, why is Akwa-Ibom and other minorities not Igbo since they suffered the same fate. And btw, how exactly was Asaba involved in the war, if you care to explain? I mean how was Asaba involved that Agbor or other Igboid groups not involved? |

Ngozi123: Sorry, that's just me being lazy. I actually mean that Ogbaru people come from Enuani stock, which is mostly concentrated in the Anioma region in Delta state. I can understand Ogbaru being referred to as Enuani stock but Anioma on the other hand is an artificial creation which is an acronym of all the Igbo speaking parts of Delta state. Some people are beginning to make Anioma seem like an ancient civilization of some sort which is not true. |

This is all about Tiwa Savage and Yemi Alade .
n my honest opinion, I think Yemi Alade became the best female musician a few years ago but Tiwa Davage has gotten the title back. No thanks to Yemi Alade's songs that a lot of Nigerians are not used to. Though she's one of the biggest female acts in Africa because she pulls massive crowds in other African countries, especially french speaking countries. |

clefstone: You should have noticed by now that I try to avoid using the word Anioma. The so called Anioma people are a diverse group of people, some with greater affinity to the Igbos and others with more affinity to neighboring non Igbo speaking people. If an Anioma state is created, there will still be problems of superiority tussle and distrust Show me a state where there is no problems of superiority tussle and distrust, even the so called homogeneous states. I think your issue with Anioma state is teh fact that when created, it may become very hard to separate yourself from the Igbo tag unlike when you're in a state like Delta or Rivers. |

On the issue of state creation, SE can get their additional state without involving my people. I am an Aboh man first and last, create an Aboh state or an Aboh-Ndoni state, then I'll be content Not in a hundred years will a state of Ukwuani-Ndoni be created when there are bigger and more viable options. |

mandax: Read your post again, especially concerning inner city streets. The purpose of your post is for IMSG to asphalt what is left of the inner streets of Owerri. It never occurred to you there are inner streets in Orlu and Okigwe.
You are conveying the falsehood that in Imo state, Owerri is the only town where people live in large numbers, therefore deserves government attention.
But truth is: if there are about 900,000 inhabitants of Owerri capital territory,
Orlu has about 450,000
Okigwe has about 300,000.
Imo state can't continue to have all its eggs in one Owerri basket, as a most parochial and disingenuous group wants it to continue to have it I'm not saying that development should only be centered in Owerri. I mentioned Owerri because it was where i stayed and know about. it is also the most important town in Imo state and i crave the day when we will have a city to be proud of and i pray Owerri achieved that in this generation. |

Abagworo: At least 90% of all the roads in Owerri are well paved and good though some mischief makers are trying to project the recent escavation of Douglas and Wetheral roads undergoing reconstruction in bad light. The writer focused on Nekede, Ihiagwa, Eziobodo and some other towns outside Owerri in his comments and control junction is very fine and neat. Control junction is Assumpta roundabout as you approach from Onitsha and I was there like 2 months ago. I was at Control junction just yesterday and it was bad, i assure you. I think the road was done not too long ago but the quality of work was probably bad, hence the reason it depreciated so fast. I think the best roads that Rochas has done are those that link some parts of the state. For example, i took the road from Owerri to Orlu down to Rocha's village and i was impressed with what i saw. I also saw the work going on at Wetheral and Okigwe but i must say that the pace of work is rather slow because i was there about a month ago and not much has changed. Like i said, the Imo state government has to take road construction within the metropolis very seriously and consider constructing new roads in inner steets that have never seen tarred road in their life. |

cjrane: The same Okorocha idea of showmanship when there is nothing to show. You guys always think there are short cut to development through fake showmanship. Soon you will advise us to build statues of Bush, Clinton and Trump as a way to attract Americans as tourists to SE. Yet, you won't look at real example of Ghana or Kenya how they developed their tourism industry and transportation system to make tourists visit and enjoy themselves.
We don't NEED other Nigerians to think Igboland of whatever. It won't make them invest or come to live there. Except for those currently moving from Benue and Middlebelt due to the crisis.
What we need is CO_OPERATION between states to build critical infrastructure such as regional rail network, regional power supply systems etc. If you do that, The world, not just Nigerians will notice you. No need to plan on painting an old stadium to host super eagles and you call that "Development" One idea doesn't negative another. While we're waiting for our leaders to build a rail line and the tower of babel, we can market what we have. What is so special about Calabar and Uyo that everyone is raking about? These are things that can be easily done and we will put those places out of business (no pun intended). Take football for instance, i'm yet to see any Igbo governor that has sponsored the super eagles to come and play a match in their state, the way, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Port-hacourt have done in the past. While i think Rochas has his faults, we need a bit of that Rochas behavior. Put a world-class stadium in Onitsha, invite the super eagles and see them never leaving that place ever again because of the character of the city. We have a lot of things that we're not taking advantage of. |
Politics › Re: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by Afam4eva(m): 10:43am On Jul 09, 2018 |
nnamdijonathan: I was not saying that we should start building skyscrapers, I was only educating those who think that 4 - 6 story buildings are called high rise buildings. Anambra state does not need skyscrapers, in fact, the kind of houses in Onitsha and Awka metros are good enough to place them as some of the most beautiful cities in Africa but they are not yet clean and serene enough to be on that list. Another thing they are missing is advertisement. Those cities ( Onitsha and Awka) most start hosting big events in order to create awareness to the outside world that Nigeria is not only Lagos and Abuja. That is the same thing Cross river and Akwa Ibom are also doing and it has made them some of the most popular Nigerian States to the outside world. Some people even believe that Calabar and Uyo are more developed than Enugu, Onitsha metro, Awka .metro and Owerri. In the past few years, people have now began to rate calabar and uyo above even Port Harcourt because both cities host big events like The Experience, Football matches in a first class stadium and the Calabar carnival, let's not also forget other advertisements these states have done like showcasing modern standard highways in Uyo, Tinapa resort, Obudu cattle ranch, rain forests and have even gone ahead to create magazines to showcase the beautiful parts of their states to non Nigerians. What have we done to promote our own states? If you ask a non Igbo in Lagos to describe the SE for you, he/she will tell you that the SE is one of the most undeveloped region in Nigeria with dead roads and mud houses and also the most unsecured place in southern Nigeria that is why other Nigerians don't visit the SE for any reason and Igbos keep running away from their land to avoid getting killed or dying of poverty. If you haven't heard this before, I want you try it and ask a non Igbo person you meet Lagos or any other SW state to describe the SE for you. Imo stage is the only state that is gradually making non Igbos know that the tourism sector of the SE is on the rise that is why within the last few years, Owerri has hosted two times more conferences than any SS and SE state as well as hosted 3 different Presidents of 3 African countries in just 2 months which is a wonderful achievement knowing fully well that Owerri is not the country's capital. Even Enugu, the eastern capital has never played host to such amount of Presidents in 5 years talkless of 2 months. People now troop in to Owerri from Port Harcourt and Bayelsa and Aba, Onitsha, Enugu etc to have fun and spend money. Owerri Airport now records more passengers than the Airports in Enugu, Uyo, Benin, Ibadan, Kaduna and even Kano and is also the fourth busiest airport in the country just behind those in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt all because of Tourism. Oyo state, Cross river state, Edo, Delta, Kano, Akwa Ibom, Kaduna, Enugu etc all have more industries than Imo state but Imo Airport is always busier than the Airports in those states because of tourism which is the main reason why I am begging Ndigbo to come together and build Owerri so that we can have at least one resort city in Nigeria and it will be located in Igboland. Forget about all these state demarcation nonsense, Owerri is for all of us and now that Owerri is showcasing the good part of Alaigbo to the world, we must make it the most beautiful city in Africa just as we plan to make Aba, Onitsha, Nnewi, Enugu, and Awka the engineering and Industrial hubs of Nigeria, Abakaliki as the Agricultural hub of Nigeria and Asaba ( well I have not discovered what we will use this city for ). I must say that you're one of the smartest people on here. This is what i''ve always been saying. The SE states need to host a lot of popular events in order for people to learn and know a lot about our states. Let our governors host the super eagles in our stadiums, host carnivals etc. Only that way will some people know that Igboland is not what they think it is. |
Politics › Re: Few Pics From Imo State by Afam4eva(m): 10:08am On Jul 09, 2018 |
I just came back from Owerri and this time, i was opportune to comprehensively tour the city as well as some other parts of the state. We were taken to see some ongoing projects by the Governor, Rochas Okorocha, also accompanied by the Inspector General of Police. I visited the Rochas foundation for both African and Nigerian students. I also went to the newly built but ongoing Eastern Palm University. The road, to Orlu/Ideato is completely smooth save for a few spots and i think the Governor has done well in that regard. The police headquarters under construction will be one of the biggest in Nigeria when completed. I also commend the governor for that.
But I think i now have a complete understanding of what the problems in Owerri and Igboland is.
There's a problem of roads in Owerri even in the highbrow or popular areas. Take Control junction for example, there's no reason why that place shoud not have an excellent tarred road considering the fact that it's the gateway to Owerri if you're coming from the Onitsha axis. It's the same story in almost every part of the capital. Even the government house has it's own fair share of bad roads. How much more where you have FUTO and Nekede, especially where you have the poly. The road is extremely bad. Should we talk about Owerri inner streets, that despite the decent buildings have no roads whatsoever.
If any government wants to change Owerri forever, they should just focus on massive road construction in every nook and cranny of the capital. |
