Mr_TA: Horrid boring match. Lots of poor individual performances. We still lack that physical presence in midfield but its the creativity we lacked most. Our final ball was so bad. spot on about the final ball being bad. our major problem today was the lack of incisive wing play.that is traditionally united's strength. good wingers would have stretched the play and made it difficult for chelsea to block d box. d only reason valencia is staring is that he is the only fully fit one

rooney wasnt too bad considering all the off field distractions.
our CM dominated and we had far more of the ball than chelsea and we had more coherent build up. our wide men welbeck and valencia are d ones not doing enough to take the full backs on and whip balls into d box

our full backs have to be careful and watch for counter attacks in d 2nd half. their average position is deep in the opposition half.

well both torres and demba played 14 games in their first 6 months at chelsea.
demba ba scored 2 goals to average 1 goal every 7 games while torres score a grand total of ONE goal to average a goal every 14 games

RuuDie: I agree that changes and fresh legs were needed. But I also believe amount of tactical or personnel changes would have made a world of difference if the players had already see the game as a lost cause...this is where I faulted Vilanova against Bayern. He had a team that should never be written off regardless of the circumstances because everyone knows what they are capable of when they turn on the style; he made no visible signs to motivate the side!

When a team losses a man in such circumstances heads tend to drop - they first need to be "lifted", positive, upbeat in their approach...energy levels need to go up. Get everyone from players to fans pumped up; get 'em believing that the goal can still be achieved, that is very important too. At a point, you could see Giggs too trying to rouse the crowd and fellow players.

Football isn't all about tactics all the time...the mindset of the players is important too!

coogar: who cares about that? how many assists has he had since then? look around the premier league....benteke takes penalties for villa, soldado for spurs, van persie for man utd. soldado's 2 goals this season has been from pens, 2 of benteke's 3 goals this season were from pens.....if they are chelsea players, soldado would have nothing, benteke would have 1 goal in 3 games.
