I've been telling Fellaini lovers on Chelsea thread for some time that they would be surprised at Fellainis sluggishness when they see him in a midfield two.

since then his finishing has improved markedly and apart from pogba i think he has made the most improvement in that side.

that team like so many other great teams won because they had exceptional players in some departments of d game not because they were balanced.dont go believing that all great teams had balance,supreme quality in one department can make up for deficiencies in some other departments

Thuram? really? are u talking abt the 34yr old over the hill guy that played in 41 la liga matches in 2years? hope u r aware that thuram's 2yrs in barca were the seasons btw their 2nd and 3rd chaps league titles.they didnt win anything in europe with thuram.strike him off that list he was past it by then.Alves is a mediocre defender better going forward than defending.that leaves puyol and pique, marquez i liked but injuries curtailed his career. now compare that to messi,zlatan,ronaldinho,etoo,henry,iniesta,deco etc

pele's team of 1970 wasnt very balanced but it had quality and was successful and regarded as one of the greatest ever.
there have been several great teams that had balance and several great teams that did not.balance is not a sine qua non to success

my point exactly you can't blame every defeat on imbalance and ascribe it to the machinations of a guy who works in the boardroom. at what point do you start holding the players you do have and the manager who sets them up accountable?

My last point.No doubt the team has poor balance but always laying the blame at that door means u risk turning a blind eye to other flaws especially those that can be corrected immediately. team balance is not correctable until the next window so other solutions have to be found short term.
