Quadri causes upset to equal Toriola’s Olympics records in Rio

Motivated by the inspiration of legend Segun Toriola, Aruna Quadri yesterday defied all odds to demystify one of the tournament’s favourites, Chinese Taipei’s Chuang Chih-Yuan with a 4-0 bashing to berth in the fourth round of the men’s singles of the table tennis event at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

For making it to the fourth round (last 16), Quadri has equaled the feat achieved by Toriola at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in China where the former African champion made it to the same stage of the championship.

The Nigerian who is ranked 40th in the world and 27 at the Rio Olympic Games tamed the world’s number seven and tournament’s number five seed to make a giant stride in his career.

If what happened at the 2016 German Open is anything to go by, Quadri has no chance against the Asian star as the 2014 ITTF Star Player was bundled out in less than 15minutes.

Fired up by the loud ovation that greeted Segun Toriola’s exit in the second round of the men’s singles, Quadri was in excellent form with an emphatic routing of his highly-rated opponent.

The defeat suffered by the Asian star was that disgraceful that he could not win a game in the 4-0 ((11-6, 12-10, 11-6, 11-7) bashing.

Notably, four year ago at London 2012, Quadri’s victim – Chuang Chih-Yuan had reached the bronze medal match, where he was beaten by Germany’s Dmitrij Ovtcharov.

Like Quadri, another star of the night was Ukraine’s Kou Lei who attracted the attention by upsetting top seed.

Kou Lei, the no.28 seed, ended the hopes of Frenchman, Simon Gauzy, the no. 13 seed (11-6, 6-11, 16-14, 11-9, 11-6).

In the fourth round match, Quadri will be faced with another task as he is expected to battle against Germany’s Timo Boll, ranked 13 in the world and tournament’s number 10 seed

CareerRe: Safety In Our Workplaces. How Do We Ensure That? by agabusta: 6:02pm On Aug 07, 2016
The companies operating in Nigeria do not take Occupational health and safety serious as the laws guiding it in Nigeria are outdated and in some instances nonexistent.

The first step is to get the govt to pass a contemporary Occupational health and safety law into our statutes and then see companies fall in line.

The 7th Assembly passed the law but Ex-President GEJ did not sign it into law.

I don't know if PMB can still assent this bill or it has to be passed afresh by the 8th Assembly.

The focal point of this discussion should be how to mobilise to get PMB to assent to this bill or how to get the 8th Assembly to reconsider the bill if necessary.

Nigeria companies will never take Occupational health and safety serious unlesss if backed by strict laws and strict enforcement.

It was hung for me but I removed it from the wall when I wanted to do burglary for the main meter. The UI came with one plastic and thread nail to be hung to the wall, then you hang the UI to that plastic.
Mine didn't come with that. It just has a plug, it can't be hung. I just plug it at different places. And move it around so that kids won't play with it.

It was really a hard battle between the DISCOs and the local meter manufacturers. The DISCOs didn't want to patronize them at all. But I can tell you, MOJEC meter is superb because, it was installed for me and its user interface is damn too good.
It's nice. That is what i'm also using. I recharged it yesterday and was given cash back for the cost of the metre in form of units. It was so cool.

The only issue I have with the interface is just that it cannot be hung somewhere. I keep moving it around different places in the house. I'm yet to get a permanent place for it.

'I'm much more optimistic today than I've been in many years, as far as the economy is concerned" Emir of Kano says

http://www.lindaikejisblog.com/2016/08/im-much-more-optimistic-today-than-ive.html

Emir of Kano and former Central Bank governor, Muhammadu Sanusi II says he is more optimistic of Nigeria's economy now than he has ever been in many years. Sanusi said this while speaking to newsmen in Abuja yesterday August 3rd
"What the government has done by fighting insecurity and corruption provides an environment where government policies can thrive.
The recent steps that have been taken by deregulating the oil sector, liberalizing the Forex market, meeting with economists, and setting up a proper economic team, suggests that there is now attention focused on real economic issues. I am much more optimistic today than I have been in many years as far as the economy is concerned. We are going through a difficult time. We are always bound to go through difficult times when the oilprice crash and with all the mismanagement of the past but I think right now, we are finally about to turn a corner. We need to be realistic, nobody should expect overnight that things will change. Inflation will be with us for sometime, recession will be reversed gradually"he said

Sanusi Supports Downstream Deregulation, Requests Nigeria’s Patience

Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, on Wednesday supported the deregulation of the downstream sector and the liberalisation of the foreign exchange market.

The Emir of Kano said this while speaking at a lecture series at the National Defence College, Abuja.

The Emir sees the deregulation as a turning point for Nigeria and hopes that it would lead to the much needed change and transformation if sustained.

“The recent steps that have been taken to deregulating the oil sector, liberalising foreign exchange market, meeting with economists and setting up a proper economic team suggest that there is now attention focused on real economic issue.

“I’m much more optimistic today that I’ve been in many years as far as the economy is concerned,” he said.

A Wining Economy

The monarch said that the efforts of the Federal Government to tackle corruption and insecurity shows that there is a real focus on the economy.

“I think that the building blocks have been put in place. What the government has done by fighting insecurity and fighting corruption provides an environment where economic policies can thrive,” he added.

He appealed to Nigerians that the anticipated change would come with some form of inflation and recession, but said that Nigeria would gradually return to a booming economy.

GreatSE:
Ameachi is a traitor, what happens to Portharcourt he claim to love or even Calabar, he is everything against South South....Lagos is saturated yet the efuluefu is taking all SS projects to Lagos to appease his masters
This is not about Amaechi. It is not a FGN project. FGN just needs to approve as it falls under her purview to grant such approvals.

The project has been in the books far before Amaechi came on board. GEJ administration did not give approval to the project, despite that it's a PPP. He played politics with the aspirations of Lagos.

Luckily he is out of the saddle, and a new government desperate to create jobs has no option but to give approval. And even moreso, since the state and the federal are aligned politically.

You blame others for everything but refuse to question your own. Why have u not called Akpabio to question over the Ibaka sea port?? Akwa-Ibom has sufficient funds to contribute to the project but did not.

Why should u blame Lagos for being successful and forward thinking? The money Akpabio spent on building that beautiful stadium, don't you think it would have yielded more economic benefits if it was used to build a modular petroleum refinery or a sea port??
PoliticsRe: Amaechi, Fashola, Lai Speak On New Sea Port In Badagry At FEC Meeting (video) by agabusta: 8:46am On Aug 04, 2016
This is a private sector driven project. Nobody is stopping other private sectors from siting an investment in the form of a sea port in PHC, Calabar or Akwa Ibom.

Those states should get their ass up and go and look for the investment. This project has been in the books since Fashola era, it was just delayed because GEJ withheld approval for it.

Lagos wants to develop abeg, no one should hold it down.

Haters kindly note that this is in addition to the ongoing Lekki Sea Port.
PoliticsRe: Aisha Buhari Arrives Washington DC by agabusta: 3:24am On Aug 04, 2016
maimalari:
Nigeria’s First Lady Aisha Buhari on Wednesday evening arrived in Washington DC on a weeklong visit. She is billed to attend a number of events in the area.

Sources at the Nigerian Embassy in Washington DC said Mrs. Buhari arrived on a British Airways flight from London.

Her visit is of tremendous interest in Nigeria where Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose alleged in June that Mrs. Buhari was involved in the infamous Halliburton scandal, and is the “Aisha Buhari” mentioned in related court documents.

Our investigations show that there is no “Aisha Buhari” mentioned in the Halliburton scandal. However, there is one mentioned in the case of former United States congressman William Jefferson, who was convicted on corruption charges in 2009, and to whom “Aisha Buhari” wired the sum of $170,000. It is to that matter the governor mistakenly appears to allude.

On several occasions, Governor Fayose asserted that Mrs. Buhari could not enter the US, suggesting she would be arrested, a bluff she has now called. Investigations by SaharaReporters and the New York Times have categorically stated that the Aisha Buhari mentioned in the court document in reference is not President Buhari's wife. Nonetheless, Mrs. Buhari has sued Governor Fayose concerning his allegations.

According to an official invitation letter to her, obtained by SaharaReporters, Mrs. Buhari was expected to have arrived in the United Stastes two days ago, but was held back by official delays in Nigeria.

Among others, she is expected during her visit to attend meetings at the George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. She will also be hosted by the United States Institute of Peace, in collaboration with Voice of America, and attend the 25th Anniversary celebration of Zumunta Association USA Inc.

PoliticsRe: FEC Approves Seaport For Badagry, Lagos by agabusta: 2:51am On Aug 04, 2016
Good development. But we need a modern rail line from that Badagry port and that will pass through all the South West states to the North. So that goods can be easily evacuated from this port.

I just wish Ambode will cool down and give Fashola the needed respect. If he does that, Fashola will really help him and make his job easier.

Nobody both in the Executive and legislative arm of this government has made any positive impact to the common made. So Ekweremadu can not be singled out on this, except if you are suggesting that all of them including the President should step down. Then I will buy your idea.
My point is, APC is fully in charge of the executive and can be validly blamed for non-performance at that level.

At the legislature you can't correctly say APC is responsible for the shortcomings there as they are not fully in control.

Let either party be fully in control of the legislature so that blames can be appropriately apportioned.

They can meet from now till 2019.Ike Ekweremadu will remain the DSP till 2019 whether the APC likes it or not.

The economy is in shambles and all these fools are thinking about is how to remove Ekweremadu!! Gosh!!
When you are the Deputy Senate President ffor 8 years, your constituency has changed from the enclave he come from to the whole country.

How come, you decided to be hyperventilating instead of showing his achievements to his state and country??

Does that mean he does not have any achievement to brandish as a Deputy Senate President for 9 years and countinghuh

Thank God, the candidate they are pushing forward as his replacement is an Igbo man. If not, I know folks like u will already be screaming that they want to marginalise the Igbos and the campaign to unseat him is hate related.

Our politicians are too desperate and it stems from followership.

Let Ekeremadu willingly step down, so that APC can have their own from the SE on the seat. He was DSP for 8 years under the PDP leadership, let him come and champion the PDP course when they are fully in control.

As the case is now, the senate may just remain in a confused state till the end of their tenure to the detriment of the country.

Another good option is for Saraki to decamp to the PDP. And let it be clear cut that it is the opposition that is control of the senate.

It's quite simple and doesn't call for hyperventilation.

Their plans will still fail. The more they lay trap for him, the more their individual problems and misfortunes will grow geometrically. Iseeeeeeee.
Ekeremadu has not made any impact in the legislature since the time he has been Deputy Senate President. More than 9 years now.

Or do you know of his achievements to his community, state and country all those years?

Without hating, I sincerely will like to see another name and face on that seat. I would have loved for APC to put their choice candidates on that seat so that they won't have excuse at the end of this legislative term.

Presently, the current legislature has not achieved anything worth praising and you can't morally blame APC/PDP for it. Let's have a clear cut party in leadership, so that we can know who to blame.

It is either Saraki decamps to the PDP, and we all know it is the PDP in charge of the senate, or Ekeremadu steps down for an APC candidate.

Till date, Bukola Saraki has still not released details of the budget of the National Assembly. And some mofos are still supporting and encouraging him.

We have seen the details of the budget of the Executive and has appropriately criticized extravagant spending, but till date, details of the budget of the NASS has remained vague like that of the KGB.

These crooked National Assembly has also succeeded in dividing Nigerians along party and tribal lines, to the extent that if you criticize anything about them, some mofos will call it 'ethnic intolerance'. I am just tired of this country.
