But the fact is even with this system adopted in Nigeria, it wouldnt change much as the Northern electoral college will still collectively vote whoever they've made up their mind to vote with one mind becos they are more united in purpose than the southerners which we all know will have lots of splits (as we be oversabi people).. Its only if they (the north) dont have the numbers in electoral colleges that things might be different which leads me to this question.. What determines the number of electoral colleges a states has? Its population?? Or what exactly...?

You're exaggerating right 50 what?? no state in America even have up to 50 electoral college votes including the big states like New York, California, Texas etc. Yes most northern states will have a higher electoral voters but it won't be that much and it can be countered if a candidate is able to win a greater number of states

Electoral College is too alien and complex for Nigerians to understand so I will break it down in local context for them to understand in simple terms using Nigeria regions as an example.


Instead of the present system of presidential elections where the Kardashians of the North will just release astronomical figures to negate electoral lead to miraculously swing victory the way of their preferred candidate, they will have a fixed number of Electoral College votes determined by their number of federal representatives.

So if Kano like, let them let cows and infants votes and churn out 10 million votes, all their preferred candidate will get is the Electoral College votes of the state.

If I am being honest, this system would have been perfect for a multi-ethnic large population country like Nigeria.

The US Presidential election is by what 'they' call an Electoral College and not solely through the popular votes.

Each state has electors which is arrived at by adding the number of their Representatives in the Senate and the House of Rep. An exception is their capital DC, which has 3 electors. The total number of electors is 538.

Now ideally, the popular winner of a state takes all the electors for that state except for two states which has a separate rule. A number of posts on this thread already mentioned that.

The formal process where the 538 electors cast their votes takes place next month.

But irrespective of that, if the popular winner of the different states are known/declared, it is easy to deduce the overall winner of the electoral college, even though they are yet to formally cast their vote since electors in 48 states (out of 50) are to vote for the winner of their states

Electoral college is a form of allocation of numbers backed by the constitution to each state in America usually determined by the resident state population. Some states have 3, 4, 10, 20, 30, etc. depending on the residency population.

Like California has the highest electoral votes, followed by Texas. Politically, some states are more important to political parties than others.

For instance, Wyoming, DC, Delaware, North & South Carolina have the least electoral votes, so politically speaking an American politician gives more attention to California, Texas and other states with high electoral votes, than states with least electoral votes.

I know you're quite aware that the numbers most northern states keep churning out in every election is a hoax and fabricated figures.
when we're ready for electoral reforms then all these things will be put into consideration.
