This should apply to all inflows from petrol dollars to VAT/CIT, inflows from customs, solid minerals, etc. |

ivandragon: This piece is dubiously written & seems to be an attempt to redirect the blame for the present scarcity of Nigerian passports to other sources rather than the fact that it is this present administration that is incompetent.
How can the contract be almost for life when it is clearly stated that it has been renewed about 3 times?
While it is good that Nigerian passports be produced locally, it is the dubious nature & poor planning culture of this administration that has led to scarcity of passports & not because of the existing contract.
STNL has a contract to produce about 6m passports & while the exact number of passports produced so far is debatable (about 4m+), the contract cannot be said to be unfavorable (except in the sense that we should produce passports locally) or for life.
This administration is piss-poor when it comes to planning & implementation but always prefers to blame others for its incompetence.
The solution is simple, allow the existing contract run its course or mandate STNL to produce the balance passports within a specific timeframe or payoff STNL for the balance of passports yet to be printed... How hard can it be? In the last 20 years in this country, there is no year that passport booklet is not scarce. Infact, it is a regular 'cashing out strategy by Immigration guys. |

COMPAQ: Benefits to the economy goes beyond the price of the final product. There are jobs created - direct and indirect, economic activity created, technollogy transfered, taxes paid etc
Also there are many factors that contribute to the factors of production and ultimately cost of a product. Nigerias inefficient economy doesn't help. There was a report recently that it costs $1000 to transport a container from China to Lagos, but to deliver same container from Apapa port to Ikeja ,transporters were charging N150k due to difficulty to move at the ports.
Agreed that the policies could be implemented better and it seems like the same names come up - Dangote,BUA etc, but they seem to be the only ones willing to take the risk and there are also benefits to the economy as I explained above.
Most Nigerian rich men like easier money. They prefer trading to manufacturing. Import for N50k, sell for N100k and no value added.
I can't take the risk they do, doing such huge business in Nigeria where everything is working against you, so if they also make huge profits for their risk, why should I complain. God bless you for this insightful comment. These are the conversations we need to take the country forward, but its seriously lacking these days. Tribalists and conspiracy theorists have taken over. |

tutudesz: OBJ was the one who gave Dangote cement Monopoly and not Buhari It is this bias and chronic trappings of hate that makes people to still support Buhari and they are shocked. Sugar and Cement was monopolised by these capitalists before Buhari, but hey, Buhari must take all the blame. The major problem is that we don't have strong, patriotic elements in places of authority that has the discipline to see public protection policies through. Nigerians get easily compromised and that is why the entire country is a mess. Everyman is for their own pocket and gain. From NASS members to the civil service. |

festacman: Every government policy like Backward Intergration Programme (BIP) is supposed to have a document stating its SMART objectives, implementation guidelines, periodic review of journey so far, etc. If the government agency or NASS committee that is supposed to oversee and regulate BIP implementation decides to be inactive, beneficiary firms won't meet with their commitments as expected. Here the executive and parliament are both to be blamed for their failings. Nigerians are not patriotic enough for all what you wrote up there. A little change to their pocket and they'll throw policy to the bin. |

Politics › Lekki Toll Used To Service Debt, Others, Says LCC by agabusta(op): 7:47am On Feb 16, 2021 |
Lekki toll used to service debt, others, says LCC Urges protesters to allow plaza operateLekki Concession Company Ltd (LCC) has debunked social media claim that Admiralty Circle Toll Plaza is a cash cow, stating that the bulk of the earnings is being used to repay loan incurred for the project from local and foreign lenders. Managing Director of LCC, Yomi Omomuwasan, who gave the explanation, in a statement, said the youths had been misled to believe that all the LCC does is collect toll, which has instigated them to shut down the plaza with their protest. Omomuwasan said the “total loan balance” incurred by LCC for the project from local lenders stood at N23.9 billion, while that of foreign lenders (AfDB) stood at $49.6 million as of December 31, 2011. He explained that as of January 31, 2021, the outstanding debt liability from the local lenders was around N11.6 billion, and from foreign lenders, $31.1 million (USD), with the difference being the amount LCC has so far paid the lenders. According to him, before the #EndSARS protest, LCC management had continued to meet up with servicing its loan obligations without default, but since the commencement of the protest, with the forceful takeover of the Admiralty Circle Toll Plaza and the “unfortunate incident of Tuesday 20th, October 2020”, LCC has had to plead for moratorium repeatedly with its local and international lenders. Omomuwasan said that due to the takeover, it had been impossible for the LCC to meet its loan repayment obligations and take care of its workers, given the inability to collect toll, which is the main revenue source from which the repayment was contractually expected to come. “While this explains where the bulk of the LCC earnings goes, the implication of default in payment of loans for the business community are too grave to be imagined. “Sadly, our youths have also been misled to believe that all that the LCC does is collect tolls. This again is another falsehood being spread around on social media. Daily users of the Eti-Osa-Lekki-Epe Expressway would testify that LCC provides free 24/7 towing services, accident and breakdown recovery, emergency services and 24-hour security patrol along the express road. “LCC is solely responsible for man-power and operational costs of all of these ancillary services at no cost to road users. No road, I repeat, no road in Nigeria today offers such. The Eti-Osa-Lekki-Epe Expressway is a world-class road infrastructure of reference in this jurisdiction. It is an example of what the government can achieve for the people by working with the organised private sector. Besides, many may have forgotten how narrow and choking the road was before this new one was built,” he explained. On ownership of the LCC, Omomuwasan explained that some private sector shareholders originally owned it as at December 31, 2011. They are African Infrastructure Investment Fund (AIIF), Asset and Resources Management Company Ltd (ARM), Larue Projects Company Ltd and Hi-Tech Construction Ltd. He said that in December 2014, Lagos State government acquired 100 per cent shareholding right in the company in which the shares were allotted as 75 per cent to the state government and 25 per cent to the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Office. “To those still agitating that the Toll Plaza must never return, we believe we have set the records straight. There are loan obligations to be met. The road needs to be maintained. There are young Nigerians who earn a living from the Lekki Concession Company,” Omomuwasan added. https://m.guardian.ng/news/lekki-toll-used-to-service-debt-others-says-lcc/ |
