debrief08: Seeing what I went through before having babies one will expect me to be over protective and want my kids around me 24/7, Contrary, I learnt a lot mrom my mother in law. Yes I will let my kids stay with my family and very close friends, My son spends a bulk of his hokidays with my Dad and same for the other grand kids its like a reunion. He lines up a lot of activities for them and they have loads of fun. Maybe I am old school and don't believe my kids are mine alone. I think its good to let them have a life. Living permanently with someone I doubt but holidays, sleep overs etc they are welcome. My boy is fiercely independent and doesn't like being fussed over, he is orgainised and neat, even scolds me when I dump things in his room anyhow.
Let kids be kids, I wasn't bubble wrapped and don't intend to bubble wrap my kids. I have seen 5 year olds scream and cry when being seperated from their parents, My boy barely turns to say bye, he is usually excited about the fun he is about to have with and a change of environment. somebody dey talk of permanent living, you dey mention "holiday" all these ajebotas for nairaland na wah |

13volts: NEMA denies Killing of 15 Church Worshippers in Chibok Premium Times - 10 hours ago National, News
NEMA said there was no targeted church killing in Chibok.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has denied a report claiming that 15 worshippers were killed in an outskirts of Chibok Local government Council of Borno State on Sunday.
Though some of the reports claimed a source from NEMA provided the information, the agency, in a statement by its spokesperson, Yushau Shuaib, said it contacted the officer involved who denied making such statement.
The agency said it also assigned a special team to investigate and verify the allegation which was later found to be unsubstantiated and untrue.
Though NEMA refuted the church attack, it said its special team found that two people were killed by unidentified gunmen around the area on Sunday.
It said their bodies had been deposited in a hospital. The victims were a security man and a bystander.
NEMA said it could not classify the victims as Muslims or Christians because most of the attacks in that North-East axis are non-discriminatory between religion, tribe or section of the victims.
“This could be deduced from the calibre of personalities including retired military generals, traditional rulers, politicians, public officers, businesspeople, security personnel, traders, students among other that were victims of such attacks,” the agency said.
NEMA said it would never release figures of casualty in whatever form without concrete evidence and certification from relevant authorities including the medical personnel and security agencies.
“The tradition of collaboration with stakeholder in information management during outbreaks of disaster in any part of the country is to eradicate erroneous impressions and misinformation as well as guard against unnecessary reprisal attacks from such speculations,” the agency said.
Meanwhile, the emergency agency said it has provided relief materials to the victims of recent communal clash between Fulani and Gwari in Gwagwalada area of Abuja over encroachment on farmlands.
“Two truckloads of relief materials that include beddings, food items, toiletries, medicaments and tents have been distributed to the victims who are currently squatting in a temporary camp on the Permanent Campus of the University of Abuja,” the agency said. ok |
Politics › Re: Obasanjo Pledges To Buy “Cheap, Fairly Used Phone” For Reporter by agitator: 10:50am On Jan 02, 2013 |
Ptimes: Former President Olusegun Obasanjo over the weekend caused a mild drama when he sighted PREMIUM TIMES’ correspondent at the Government House in Ogun State.
The reporter tried to take a picture of the former president standing beside former Nigerian leader, Ernest Shonekan, with his camera phone, but got a dramatic response from Mr. Obasanjo.
“You again,” the former president said. “That was how your blackberry phone was smashed.”
One of Mr. Obasanjo’s children, Oba, had smashed the blackberry phone of the PREMIUM TIMES journalist for taking the picture of the fire at the former president’s house last week in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital.
Obasanjo to buy second hand phone
The journalist complained to Mr. Obasanjo about the destroyed phone and asked the former president what he intends to do about it.
The former number one citizen again responded in his characteristic dramatic and jocular manner.
“I will buy you another one, but if you don’t mind, it has to be a fairly used one and with cheaper price,” Mr. Obasanjo said.
At the end of the day’s programme, our correspondent again approached the former president, requesting to follow him to his house to collect the promised blackberry phone; but Mr. Obasanjo turned it to another round of comedy.
“You this Ijesa man, I suspect you are the one who set my house on fire, and you want to come there again, I will buy your phone for you when I return from abroad.”
After making the statement, the former president entered his vehicle, smiled and waved to the reporter.

Billyonaire: https://rt.com/files/usa/news/us-food-percent-emergency-612/homeless-los-angeles-thomas.n.jpg Homelessness and poverty is on the rise, with 84 percent of US cities reporting that requests for emergency food assistance increased in 2012. Of those seeking emergency food, 51 percent were families and 37 were employed.
The news comes just a few days before millions of Americans get together for Christmas. With homelessness and poverty reaching record levels this year, many families may not be able to afford the feast they were able to prepare in the past.
The Hunger and Homelessness Survey released by the US Conference of Mayors states that of 25 cities surveyed, 21 have seen an increase in homelessness this year and the remaining three said it remained at the same level. Cities of all sizes, regions and wealth levels were surveyed, including Boston, Dallas, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Salt Lake City.
The report found that 46.2 million Americans, or 15 percent of the population, were living in poverty, and the number of homeless people on a single night in January 2012 was 633,782. The struggling US economy has caused many workers to move from full-time work to part-time, scraping by and living from paycheck to paycheck.
“In the last year, we saw a brand-new 26,000 households [about 56,000 individuals] needing food who never did before,” Steveanna Wynn, executive director of the SHARE food program in Philadelphia, told the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The increase in poverty and homelessness is “the worst it’s ever been,” she added. “These people never in their wildest dreams through they’d have to go to a food cupboard.”
Of those who sought emergency food, more than half were providing for their families, 37 percent were employed but not making enough money, 17 percent were elderly, and 8.5 percent were homeless, the survey found.
To add to the severity of the situation, states are not able to provide the resources that people are seeking. Of the people needing emergency food assistance, 19 percent did not receive it – even though budgets for emergency food purchases increased by 11 percent this year. With a demand greater than the supply and a looming ‘fiscal cliff’ threatening to cut the already-scarce number of benefits, poverty-stricken Americans may be facing a crisis.
With 2012 creeping to an end, struggling families are concerned that the potential ‘fiscal cliff’ could worsen their situation, especially if government funds for safety net programs are reduced and emergency unemployment benefits come to an end. Mayor Terry Bellamy of Asheville, N.C. told the Salt Lake Tribune that she is worried there won’t be enough resources for a growing number of struggling Americans in the future.
“Dealing with growing needs in the face of dwindling resources is nothing new for mayors, but we are especially concerned about what could happen to our emergency food and shelter programs next year, and in the years beyond, if Washington cannot find a responsible way around – not over – the fiscal cliff,” she said.
Carey Morgan, executive director of the Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger, said she doubts conditions will improve for those in need of food or shelter.
“Congress is considering cutting food stamps,” she said. “Things could all be culminating in a great disaster. It’s all kind of disgusting.” ok |
Sports › Re: Osaze Proposed Himself As Eagles' Captain. by agitator: 10:23am On Dec 24, 2012 |
isaiahblessin: Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has dropped a bombshell by saying Osaze Odemwingie had proposed himself as team captain.
Keshi told a stunned Nigeria Football Federation technical committee that the West Bromwich Albion striker put himself forward to be the Eagles skipper.
“He told them that he wants to be captain as he considers himself one of the most senior players in the current squad,” an official revealed.
“But how he has behaved in the national team over the years has really run counter to his ambition to be the leader of this team. You can only lead by example.”
The 31-year-old Osaze made his Eagles debut in 2002, but it was not until the 2004 Nations Cup that he established himself in the national team.
Goalkeepers Vincent Enyeama and Austin Ejide as well as defender and present skipper Joseph Yobo are older than Osaze in the Eagles.
However, he has rowed with national team bosses, from Austin Eguavoen to Lars Lagerback, and his clash with Samson Siasia was widely regarded as one of the problems that caused Nigeria to sensationally fail to qualify for the 2012 Nations Cup.
It is such poor attitude that has now denied him a fifth Nations Cup appearance.
In the meantime, the Eagles coach has said he wishes to run the rule over shock invitee Rabiu Ibrahim who has failed to establish himself at Celtic.
Ibrahim has only managed a handful of games in his second season at Celtic Park and has yet to be capped by Nigeria at full international.
“Keshi said he has watched Rabiu in a couple of cup games and will want to have a closer look at the midfielder in Faro, Portugal,” a top official told MTNFootball.com.
The gifted Ibrahim has held out a lot of promise since hefeatured for the Golden Eaglets in 2007, but he has yet to establish himself in Europe ever since.
This will be his second Eagles call-up as he was also considered for the 2010 Nations Cup, but opted out as he had just undergone a groin operation.
Some top officials also took an exception to the continued invitation of Italy-based midfielder Obiora Nwankwo, saying he is sluggish and brings very little to the team.
However, Keshi stood by his decision, insisting that the Olympic team skipper is tactically disciplined.

This is the first picture of Pia Balotelli, the new baby daughter of firebrand Manchester City striker Mario.
The little girl was born earlier this month to his ex-girlfriend Raffaella Fico, 27, and arrived three weeks early - she had been due on Christmas Day.
Balotelli has yet to see his daughter in the flesh and and is said to have only seen pictures of her via email.
In her first interview since giving birth Raffaella lashed out at the player for failing to act as a proper father.
In an interview with glossy Italian weekly Chi, Raffaella posed for several pictures with Pia, as well as her mother and brother Francesco, after securing a five figure deal with the magazine.
Chi is the same publication that printed pictures of a topless Duchess of Cambridge in the summer which were taken while she was on holiday in France with Prince William.
Furious Raffaella stormed: 'Mario for me is irresponsible. It came to a certain point where he was just not interested in anything, not in me or our daughter.
'Up until certain things happened he was supposed to marry me. That was our project, our desire.
'Then all of a sudden everything collapsed and I don't know why.'
Raffaella and Balotelli were an item for almost a year but split up in March after she flew to Manchester to confront him over a series of alleged affairs - the bust up was so furious that police had to be called to his Cheshire home.
Then in June during the European Championships, Raffaella contacted Balotelli to tell him she was pregnant with their child but initially he refused to accept it was his and demanded a DNA test.
Devastated Raffaella then hit back and said she had no fear of taking the test and her family rallied round her as it emerged she had also been contacted and urged to have an abortion - something the deeply religious underwear model ruled out completely.
Two months ago things appeared to be back on track when Balotelli issued a statement saying he was dropping the DNA requirement and that he would be 'trying again' with Raffaella and the two were pictured kissing on the balcony of home in Naples.
But despite his promise it quickly became clear he had no intention of doing the honourable thing as Raffaella confirmed that after he left her in Naples he failed to contact her in the following weeks.
Raffaella, who appeared on Italy's version of I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, described he moment she went into labour and rushed to the clinic.
'I sent Mario a text message at 3pm when the first contractions started and then again at 6.30pm when I went into the delivery room. I sent him another as soon as I came out and Pia had been born.
'But he only bothered to get in touch at half past midnight when my phone rang.
'I said to him "Mario, I've given birth" and he just said "Ah OK, I'm not bothered" and he then put the phone down. I've not heard from him since.'
'Mario's not even bothered about seeing his daughter - even if he doesn't want me to take a DNA test anymore I will do. I will make the results public so everyone knows Pia is Mario Balotelli's daughter.'
When asked if Balotelli had offered financial help Raffaella said: 'I have not had any economic help from Mr Balotelli.
'He is worth more than da Vinci's Mona Lisa but for his own daughter he hasn't flashed a penny. I have not even had a call asking if I needed anything. I don't need him or his money.'
However when asked what she would do if Balotelli did get in touch, Raffaela said: 'The door for his daughter is always open. The door of my heart is closed forever.
'I think when he came back to Naples a couple of months ago to see me that was just a PR exercise.
'Things then were not going well for him on and off the field.
'He doesn't have any paternal instincts. He is not even curious about his own daughter.'
Raffaella, whose previous boyfriends have included Cristiano Ronaldo, named her daughter after a mystical monk called Padre Pio who was famous for having bleeding wounds in his hands and feet exactly where Christ had them.
During the summer she made a pilgrimage to his shrine near Foggia where she was photographed in prayer in front of his statue with her mother and brother.

slickychi: Hmmm..I guess my case was quite different from a lot of you guys. My immediate elder bro married from Mba-Ise in Imo state and he spent over a million on bride prize alone. But b4 then I was already dating an Mba-Ise lady who was born and brought up in Delta state, cos her parents stays there. Our relationship grew stronger by the day cos she was quite different from other girls I had met b4 her. We spent about 8yrs together as lovers.over these yrs I was very close to her family, her mum, dad, and siblings became my friend. So even when am not there with her they watch and encourages her to stick to me.
So I decided that I was gonna get married and ofcos to her, I went to her parents with mine. They accepted us. Later her parents called me that by now I must be hearing so much about how expensive their bride prize is. That I shouldn't worry, that I should just come with anything I have they will handle d rest.
The deal day came on 31st. March 2012, we headed for my T.M at Mba-Ise in Imo state. We got there, the villagers had gathered, waiting to suck us up like they usually do to other inlaws. In the bride prize list, most major expensive prizes to be paid are for the brides parents. So to my greatest surprise, when they ask for the things for d girls's parents, the dad or mum will say they have collected it already from me.
So this went on till d whole list was reviewed. This baffled the whole villagers and my family, as we spent nothing more that N70k in my inlaws village.
I went with about N500k but returned home with about N410K and that was because I spent about N20k spraying my inlaws on d dance floor.
So you see fellow Nairalanders, a bride prize may be exhobitant in some communities. But it largely depends on ur spouse's family to allow u to be drained by their hungry villagers or not.
My experience really changed my friends and family's perspective about this whole marriage stuff.
And I hope it helps you guys as well.

mitchyy: GISTville https://gistville.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/7.jpg
Popular Nigerian Model Barbara Juliano has seen it all in the modelling world. Yes, indeed. She walks with a gait that promptly tells you she was born to be a model.
She is about six feet tall, slim but fleshy in the right places and possesses that unusual look of models.
In a recent interview, she talks about how it all started, her education, life as a model and her shoe company.
She reveals: “I started modelling in Paris at 17 while on holidays with a close friend. I was still in school then. He was a model and I used to accompany him to modelling agencies for casting.
I gradually joined in the model castings, did a few commercials on a part time basis and before I knew it, by 18, I was already a full time model. I did more jobs abroad than in Nigeria, modelling in London, Paris and Italy.
“I featured in quite a number of television commercials, editorial and magazine shoots for several high end products like Olay, Diesel jeans, Dolce and Gabbana, Lux etc. After giving in my all to modelling for 15 years, I gradually began my slow descent. This I did from 2005 through 2008 when I finally stopped. Then, I faced my shoe business.”
Explaining her decision for venturing into the retail of high end shoes, Barbara who runs Rose Barbara, a shoe company in Lagos, says it was borne out of a passion. Moreover, she considers modelling to go hand-in-hand with the art of wearing accessories.
“I believe that there is no modelling without shoes. No model goes on the runway barefooted. Their feet are always encased most times in stilettos which help to give one the needed gait. Oftentimes, the shoes are an advertisement on their own. So, I didn’t just start selling shoes, I became a personal shopper because people trusted my judgment on items that I picked out for them. That was after I stopped modelling.
“I am very particular about what I retail, I can tell the history of each pair of designer shoes that I retail. The modelling world really helped me to have a better understanding of what shoes are all about. My love for shoes knows no bounds. I collect shoes and I personally have a minimum of 200 pairs! That is how bad my obsession for shoes is. My husband sees my interest in the shoe business as an opportunity to acquire more pairs for myself and I don’t think he is far from the truth.”
Aside the shoe business, she has since diversified into luxurious hair retailing and also runs an African restaurant in London.
Born 37 years ago, Juliano who hails from Ikong, Cross River State, recalls her growing up years was fun filled especially as it spanned three cities— Cross Rivers State, Paris and Italy.
“Memories of my days in Cross Rivers State, especially during the holidays are so deeply etched that I sometimes crave for them. We would go to Obudu cattle ranch to have fun; horse riding, mountain climbing, and watch the water falls etc. My parents are avid believers in fun filled holidays.”
Turning out to be a success at her numerous ventures didn’t come to her on a platter of gold as she did have her trying period in her early days as a model.
“I dropped out from the University of Calabar, where I had enrolled to study Sociology. That was two years to my graduating year. I wanted to face my modelling career squarely,” she reminisces.
But with a father, who is a medical doctor and a mother who is an English graduate from Oxford University, didn’t she face stiff opposition at home?
She replies: “Nigeria is one country with people who are very particular about paper qualifications. Naturally, there was an outcry when I took that decision. My parents were to say the least, miffed at my action. I was strongly opposed but I was hell bent on pursuing a modelling career because that was what I loved and wanted to do at that time.
“I did all I could to assuage their feelings by constantly showing them my finished works. I wanted to prove that I had retained my decency while still modelling. But they had their beliefs and concluded that I was fooling around. It took a while before they finally came around to give me their blessings. I am persuaded that modelling is innate because even as a little child, the traits were very evident in me. I sometimes wonder where I got the passion for modelling from considering my background. My other family members are known for being quite cerebral. Ironically, my younger sister is now toeing my path.”
Now, she is in her parents’ shoes and feels what they felt many years back. Now, older and wiser, she constantly insists that her younger sister completes her education even as she (Barbara) also plans to complete her education.
“I have to, it isn’t like I need it right away but I will definitely. I believe I owe it to myself. When I decide to, it will be in a streamlined course in luxury management since that is my area of core competence,” she explains.
Barbara would tell you she prefers white men whenever issues of romance are raised.
“I prefer white men because I think they are more loving and respectful to women. I was once married to a French man for eight years but it didn’t work out. Now, I am married to the love of my life— an Italian. I have been with my husband for four years but we have been married for two years with a daughter. We met in Milan, Italy. He is a very understanding and humble person and I consider myself a very lucky woman to have him as a husband.”
Asked if she has any plan to give back to society through mentorship, Barbara quips that is no longer on her plate. At least currently but could be considered in the near future.
“I once imparted knowledge from my wealth of experience to young up and coming models while I was still a model and even set up an academy called, Amazon Modelling Academy. I shut down when I stopped modelling,” she says.
Models are considered stylish. Not far from one, she defines her style as unique but corrects that, “I will never be caught dead in a mini skirt or dress!”
She is a designer freak too. Hear her collection: “For shoes, I currently love Zannoti, Valentino and Cavalli. I am not very particular about the designers of the dresses I wear, as long as they are beautiful dresses.
For bags, it is Channel and Birkins. Oh! I love bags too and I have lost count of the regular bags that I have. I do have about 14 high end bags like Hermes Birkins, Channels etc. In fact, I once spent €68,000 for a hand bag. After shoes, my fashion fetish is bags.”
Her life’s philosophy is simple: Respect for people and loyalty. “Sometimes I wish I didn’t have friends having gone through some disappointments in life with friends”, she concludes.

Cables on poles are supposed to be anchored at two ends while the supporting poles are meant for just support, not to bear the weight of the cables. Cables installed before independence followed this principle, one reason there was less sparking of consumer cables. The ones installed by NEPA/Power Holding of recent, the supporting poles bear the weight, that is why you see too much sagging of power lines and breakage of High Voltage lines wooden support bars. ochallo: How could you be so ignorant! Did you go to school at all or you paid your way through school or let me guess , you are waiting for admission that would never come.
This affects the country, your relatives, even if you are abroad, it would eventually affect you, if you have relatives here. no cause for alarm, after all it had been truly discussed that the economy is growing and oil contributes only a small fraction to the budget. |

Siena: Was this man lynched in Warri or Agbor? I'm not clear on that. The thread title suggests Warri, yet the location is delared as Agbor, the nearest town.
Terrible grammar in the opening post, really difficult to follow, and make any sense of. Boss, the incident happened in a town called Agbarho, about one kilometre from Warri. The community vigilante guy was gambling with another guy and an argument ensued between them. The vigilante guy went and got his gun and shot his gambling buddy. The twin brother of the dead guy on hearing of the incident, mobilised his other family members, they traced the vigilante guy and killed him. Then they took his body to a popular junction in town, burnt it and the twin brother sliced burnt vigilante corpse like suya and ate it. I wasn't there but know people who are from the town and live there. They know all the peeps involved. |
