pdozie: Team,
I just bought 1 10Kva PRAG servo stabilizer today - 45,000 at Buyright. Will install it morrow. I've also started replacing the batteries. Got one 200AH 12v Zenith battery from mr Henry.

Congrats. You can hang it on the wall and people will start asking; what is that thing? grin

pdozie: Splendid!!! Welldone George. Very encouraging.

Meanwhile I've got my Inverter repaired by SIMBA industries. Verdict is that it was damaged by PHCN voltage fluctuation. First thing now is to buy a Servo motor stabilizer. I got a company that sells a 10kva one at - N55,000.

Akanniade suggested it is sold for N45,000 but this is the cheapest I've seen so far: Prostar stabilizer (120 bode thomas 08023527507;08033309158; 01-8146429)

Cheers guys
Didnt know you are based in lagos. You can get Prag 10kva servomotor stabilizer at ikeja mall(secretariat) for 45k. I bought one about 2 months ago.

pdozie: @George,
My question was based on the suggestions that i should remove the weak battery. I know of course that the inverter was designed for 4 x 12V batteries.
I may end up changing both the inverter and the batteries. The inverter itself, though working before the batteries damaged, was giving other uncomfortable signs. E.g.
1. Most often than not, the LED displays either shows blank or displays jargons (like codes)
2. Almost everyday if you switch on the inverter, it goes off and on - sometimes upto 6 times before it stabilizes. I've expereinced occasions also when it power cycled after many hours in operation, which would have killed my fridge compressor had no one been around.

I had asked my cousin to take the inverter to Sukam service center in Surulere but he was not attended to due to crowd. There were so many people. I have been looking for inverter technicians but no success yet (seems like a good area for some people to invest in -> talk of self employment opportunity)

I share your thoughts on "Inverter Charge conterollers". If I have to change my inverter, I will definitely go for same capacity - 3.5. But it also means I must buy 4 x 200aH batteries. If there was "Inverter Charge conterollers", I could start with few batteries and regulate the controller till I have the required 4.
Like George D, I know many who use your same brand without issues. What I can deduce from all your posts, is that nepa fluctuation destroyed your inverter/battery system. If you take time to read your a.c voltage from nepa, you see the rapid change. Most distribution is not properly managed by nepa. Most people switch phases when the fuse cut at the xformer. Eventually everyone is on just one phase. A 230v a.c phase will now be reduced to about 170v a.c with extreme fluctuations. It could also be the reverse case; too few people on a phase and you can be reading as much as 255v a.c. Also, gen may not be the best way to charge your inverter batteries except it is of large capacity. Reason is, it cannot push as much current as nepa (higher internal resistance).
In your case I suspect the charging circuit is damaged. Your best bet for repairs is still the Sukam people. The solution most of the times is board replacement, which they wont sell. My advise is, get a good stabilizer to properly regulate your nepa. If you can afford it, a PRAG 10KVa servo motor stab. costs 45K. It regulates better than the relay switch types.
All the best.

I comfort myself with these words in hopeless situations:

Isaiah 40:27-31
King James Version (KJV)
27Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God?

28Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

29He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

30Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:

31But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Mbeki:
Due to inhuman treatment meted to Nigerians by South African Authorities, not minding that Nigeria and Nigerians made DSTV and MTN richer beyond their dreams, All MTN subscribers all over the country will switch off their phone just for one minute everyday  by 12:00 noon for 7 days. One minute switch off protest will make MTN lose N500 million naira. Let's show them  the power of population. The power of Naija!
Take this as your token contribution to redeem Nigeria's image world wide.

SWITCH OFF MTN LINE PROTEST BY 12:00 NOON FOR 7 DAYS, starting from today! 7/3/2012

We should retaliate in whatever way to prove a point that our sovereignty can no longer be taken for granted.
Not trying to justify SA action but do you ever wonder what the nigerians are doin over there. I stayed in SA for a while I saw many of my country men jobless doin all kinds of menial jobs they wud be ashamed to do in nigeria. How many South africans do you see hawking perfumes on streets of lagos, setting up churches with no defined means of livelyhood, smuggling drugs etc.
Lets face it nigerian govt. and people provided the atmosphere for dstv and mtn to thrive. If nigerian govt had assisted a company like HItv, dstv wud not dominate the market. You call for boycott of mtn lines. Do you know how many nigerians will become jobless? We are clearly a troubled nation, lets not blame others for woes.
There are diplomatic solutions to the deportation saga, more strigent visa issuance to south africans. Raising tarriffs on goods shipped from SA etc.
HealthRe: Best Dental Clinic In Lagos, Nigeria? by Akanniade(m): 9:54am On Mar 07, 2012
If money is no issue, you are better off at a private clinic. The public clinics have long qeue and crude tools. I just had a crown fitted at Vine dental clinic at GRA ikeja. There service was prompt and excellent. Schubbs at ikoyi or Apapa are the best in the business anyway if money is no issue.

If money is an issue, rather than going to government clinic (you only get prompt attention if you know someone there), you can try Jaf dental clinic iyana iba. There charges
are minimal.
