The Presidential Support Committee (PSC), Southeast Zone, has given the Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) a 48-hour ultimatum to rescind the suspension of Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha. The committee, at a news conference jointly addressed by the Director of Inter-Party Affairs Robert Ngwu, National Legal Adviser Ejikeme Ugwu and Director of Political Matters, Comrade Maxwel Okoye, in Owerri, noted that suspending a key stakeholder like Okorocha “did not speak well of the NWC and Oshiomhole”. The group consequently threatened to embark on legal and mass action if the NWC did not repeal the suspension. The committee also made a case for zoning of the Senate Presidency to the Southeast in view of the support given to President Muhammadu Buhari. It noted that “the suspension is an orchestrated agenda to deny the Igbo presidency in 2023, knowing that Okorocha is one of the major contenders”. They said: “Okorocha’s suspension came to us as a shock. There is no way a cabal can suspend a major financier of the party. We give the NWC and the National Chairman 48 hours to reverse the suspension or we will resort to legal and mass action against APC leadership. “The suspension is aimed at disorganising Igbo ahead of 2023. Oshiomhole cannot wake up and suspend a major financier of the party. We plead with Buhari not to allow some few individuals rubbish his friends because we know that Okorocha is a good friend of the President.” https://all-gists..com/2019/03/Oshiomhole-gets-48-Hours-To-Cancels-Okorochas-Suspension.html |
The Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, have filed a motion to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission, to release all the materials used for the February the 23rd presidential election, for inspection. The materials the team wants to inspect include the Voters Register, the Smart Card Reader Machines and Ballot Papers.. They also want the election petition tribunal to compel INEC to allow their agents scan and make photocopies of vital documents used in the election. The PDP and its candidate came second in the presidential election, but they allege irregularities. |
The former president explained that he was only criticising the programmes and policy of the present administration to ensure that things were done according to democratic norms. He noted that while anybody could be in the President’s position, the purpose of criticism was to deepen democracy and ensure economic growth and development of the nation. Obasanjo said, “You see that in a democracy, to criticise a policy of government is not a family affair; even if it is my brother that is there and is not doing the things that I believe he should do, he must be criticised. “That is what democracy is all about. So, if I say anybody in government in Nigeria or any government in Africa is not doing well, let that government prove that it is doing well; it is not taking things personally,” he reiterated. The former president further called on African leaders to focus more on democracy, good governance and the growth of the economy for the good of the people. According to him, those who keep quiet in an environment where there is not development are accomplices in the crime. The elder statesman had criticised President Buhari at different occasions, one of which he accused the President of returning the country to the ‘Abacha era’. https://all-gists..com/2019/03/Criticising-Buhari-Not-Personal-I-Am-His-Boss-Obasanjo.html |

National chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP,) Uche Secondus says international observers declared the presidential election free and fair out of fear of being killed. He said the observers said the election was transparent after being “threatened” with the “body bag” comment made by Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna state. Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Friday, the PDP national chairman insisted the election was rigged to the detriment of the opposition party. The PDP’s Atiku Abubakar lost to President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with over three million votes. Atiku as well as his party rejected the result of the election, insisting they have “the real figures” and would present such in court. Secondus said the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) “agreed” on how to take over southern states which he said are PDP strongholds with the help of the military. “They (the international observers) are not correct. Evidence from across the countries show there was to the suppression of voters in our stronghold,” he said. “We are not going to be approaching the court based on the comment of observers that were threatened. They were threatened. So, what do you expect them to say? They have to go home with their lives. They were threatened and can’t talk. “We have the facts and we will show them to the world when we get to court. We have enough evidence to approach the court.” Secondus accused the military of interfering with election matters. According to him, “while the military was suppressing voters in the PDP strongholds, a different abracadabra was going on in the northern states especially in Kano, Yobe, Borno and Zamfara states which recorded high voter turnouts.” He also said the high incident of votes cancellation – about one million of them – was “designed to suppress the margin of victory in PDP controlled states.” “If the same thing is repeated, it means that democracy has completely failed in Nigeria and it is a full military rule,” he added. https://all-gists..com/2019/03/Fear-of-body-bags-made-foreign-observers-endorse-results-PDP.html

The All Progressives Congress, APC, national leader, Bola Tinubu, on Thursday ordered the party chieftains in Lagos State to ensure the party secures maximum votes during March 9 elections. Speaking to stakeholders after a closed-door meeting with members of the Governor’s Advisory Council, GAC, at the secretariat of the Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Independent Campaign Group, BOS-ICG, in Ikeja GRA, he lambasted party chiefs for failing to deliver maximally as expected at presidential and National Assembly polls. “Please, don’t praise me, I don’t need your praises, after the poor performance you all put up at the presidential and National Assembly elections in the state,” Vanguard quoted Tinubu as saying. “It showed that most of the chieftains and council chairmen did not mobilize the grassroots after all the support from the party. “I will not condone this act any further. Party leaders and council chairmen who fail to perform to expectation at the next governorship and House of Assembly polls on March 9, should be ready to resign or face the music. “We have over three million registered APC members, yet the performance last Saturday was poor. “The chairman of the state party, (Babatunde Balongun) should know that his position is not a permanent one. If he fails, he will have to go too,” the party leader said. In attendance at the meeting were: GAC members led by Prince Tajudeen Olusi, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, Dr. Yomi Finnih, Sanwo-Olu and his running-mate, Dr. Femi Hamzat, APC state chairman, Tunde Balogun and executive members, among others. https://all-gists..com/2019/03/Dont-Praise-Me-Tinubu-Issues-Warning-To-APC-Leaders-Ahead-Of-March-9.html |

Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has reacted to the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari at the February 23 presidential election. The aggrieved former Vice President says the election was not free and fair. He says there “were manifest and premeditated” malpractices in many states which negate the results announced. Atiku said he will seek justice the democratic way by heading to court. Below is his full statement. “Democracy Will Not Be Emasculated in Nigeria I thank the Nigerian people who trooped out in their millions to perform their civic duty this past Saturday. The patriotism of Nigerians is heartwarming and affirms my oft-repeated statement that we are brothers and sisters born from the womb of one mother Nigeria. With regards to the Presidential elections that took place on February 23, 2019, it is clear that there were manifest and premeditated malpractices in many states which negate the results announced. Another glaring anomaly is the disruption of voting in strongholds of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos, Akwa-Ibom, Rivers and diverse other states, with the authorities doing little or nothing and in some cases facilitating these unfortunate situations. (See attached links to documentary evidences). The militarization of the electoral process is a disservice to our democracy and a throwback to the jackboot era of military dictatorship. In some areas of the country, such as, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Imo states, troops deployed for the elections turned their guns on the very citizens they were meant to protect. This is condemnable and should not be associated with our electoral process in the future. I am a democrat and there are democratic avenues available to present the truth to the nation and the watching world. Already, many international observers have given their verdicts, which corroborate our observations. I am sure more will come in the coming hours and days. If I had lost in a free and fair election, I would have called the victor within seconds of my being aware of his victory to offer not just my congratulations, but my services to help unite Nigeria by being a bridge between the North and the South. However, in my democratic struggles for the past three decades, I have never seen our democracy so debased as it was on Saturday, February 23, 2019. 2007 was a challenge, but President Yar’Adua was remorseful. In 2019, it is sad to see those who trampled on democracy thumping their noses down on the Nigerian people. Consequently, I hereby reject the result of the February 23, 2019 sham election and will be challenging it in court. I want to assure my supporters and the entire Nigerian people that together, we will not allow democracy to be emasculated. Signed: Waziri Atiku Abubakar 27th February 2019 https://all-gists..com/2019/02/Atiku-Rejects-Outcome-Of-Presidential-Election-Heads-To-Court.html |

As we celebrate, I urge that we don’t do so wildly as to put us or others in harm’s way. I also urge all our supporters to be magnanimous in victory and not to taunt those who lost. Those who fought us with ideas are not our enemies. They are just patriots with different ideas. https://all-gists..com/2019/02/Festus-Keyamo-Nigerians-Congratulates-Buhari-As-He-Re-elected-As-Nigeria-President.html
