Just having this reserved sentiments that this is a looting scam by Nigeria's State and Federal Government.

Every Governor almost claiming the virus is in their state and by the time they release how much they spent on this cases, many will collapse.

Anyways... Safety first even though their are high chances that it's a scam.
Na wa o. I thought comments like these should not be allowed?

I think the FRSC need to be scrapped. If you meet them on the highway, they only stop road worthy vehicles for search and allow those unworthy vehicles with full load, no side mirrors, no jack or spear tyre and the likes. What is the safety in this? Most of them collect bribe and only book you if u fail to settle with them. cool cool
Very true!!

Lol. I've encountered them too, esp those along otukpo - Enugu road.

I once challenged one when he stopped me and wasting my time checking all the checkables, meanwhile they allowed a rickety to pass.

Guess what he said? The official claimed they were aware most of those vehicles were not road worthy, but allowed them due to difficult times, adding that a number of those drivers are actually students trying to fend for themselves.

Seriously?? So na private vehicle owners no dey face difficult times? Imagine the nonsense.

No one has really been able to give a concrete reason why Italy's case became so bad.

They have a very aging population... Second in the world. Old people have low immunity against the flu
Yeah, likely a combination of factors.

Hello! Stop following beer parlour gist.

Am giving you real time news. Counts are increasing globally. Economy's are staggering, and you are here conforming Chloroquine has the cure even when a regulatory body denied it.

You need to be careful of information you spread. A trial is been done in the US and you already have the result at hand.
I really don't know why mods have not banned this Canadaorbust character yet. His type are the ones spreading false information all over the place.

Globally, this virus is causing more harm to our social behaviour than to our physical bodies. I think it is time the media houses/social media are clamped down, forcing them to balance out the news by feeding us with useful information that is stripped of gloom and doom or risk being shut down or fined heavily.

If this virus had occurred a decade ago when our social media lives were still at its infantile stages, this would not have happened. Now, anyone can cook up a story for the dark depths of their sick minds and it will be taken as the gospel truth courtesy of the social media.

We all have a responsibility to end this crisis caused by this pathogen, let us hold unto what makes us human to save this race.
Totally agree with this. For you see comments like: "Nigeria actually has 5000+ cases, govt is hiding it" and you wonder what the poster aims to achieve.

Thankfully most platforms, including nairaland, I believe, are clamping down on such posts

It has been approved by the Presidency for FDA to begin trial treatment.

Not that the FDA has approved the drug as a coronavirus treatment.
Lol! If only you know how the bolded sounds.

Well, let indulge once more.

Trump or any president has NO BUSINESS dictating when or if the regulatory body should commence clinical trial. The best he can is to make appeal for expeditious approval.

In fact one of the biggest credibility issues the body can face is if there an impression that it's decisions are subject to political influence, hence the immediate rebuttal by the head of the FDA.

Mind you, this is my field.

Pls let's give this a rest. He goofed (as usual) and was corrected.

Time to move on to his next gaff. tongue

"We're going to be able to make that drug available almost immediately, and that's where the FDA has been so great. They've gone through the approval process, it's been approved. And they took it down from many, many months to immediate. So we're going to be able to make that drug available by prescription or states," Trump said.

This is where the misunderstanding comes from. Trump did not mean the FDA has approved the drug but he has endorsed the FDA to go on and try to treat patients with chloroquine.
Trump: Drug has been approved

You: he didn't mean it has been approved.

Okay ooooo

To the incorrigible idiots tryin tooth and nail to hold brief for their liar-in-chief, get this right:

Chloroquine has NOT been approved as a cure for Corona virus. And even if it were, it's should not be him announcing it in such a manner.

There's such a thing as 'off label' use where physicians use the drug for a non-approved ailment under strict conditions.

It will run its course even without treatment. All that is usually given is supportive management oxygen, etc.

Health › Re: Third Coronavirus Case Confirmed In Lagos by alezzy13: 3:33pm On Mar 17, 2020
At the very least this government should have come up with a policy of self quarantine once one arrives from an epidermic country.

Of course not everyone will obey, but it shows seriousness that gives the right to miss work for a couple of days.

As it is now it will be difficult to do absent oneself just like that.

[s]About 12 ambassadors from China to African countries has gone along with the propaganda that the US is responsible, all you have to do is check the twitter account of ambassador to countries like Cameroon, chad etc. the spokesman for the Chinese foreign affairs ministry was the first person to start the propaganda on twitter, the Chinese ambassador to US was summoned by the state department for that and sadly the Lefty leaning US media is in bed on that propaganda cos they’ve been piloting it not denouncing China[/s]

Foreign Affairs › Re: Trump Calls COVID’19 A “Chinese Virus” by alezzy13: 2:47pm On Mar 17, 2020
KrystosCJ:
[s]Lassa fever originated from Lassa, a town in Borno State, Nigeria. The fever was named Lassa fever with respect to its place of origin. Trump is simply doing what WHO should have done. They did the same with Zika virus, with Ebola and the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) which originated in Saudi Arabia in 2012. But, Trump as we know him, doesn't give a shit.

Whether Chinese or Wuhan virus, it still originated from China. After watching Contagion (2011), everything that played out in that movie is over 90% similar to what the world is experiencing with COVID-19. The way the team from Hong Kong abducted the WHO official after she traced the index patient to their territory shows the subdue tactics that the Chinese government used to prevent information from leaking that they are responsible for the virus. Most Asians and Africans have unsanitary food preparation habits. But the Asians, because of their population, have the largest practice in volume.

Why would Jack Ma send medical supplies of such magnitude to the US, Europe and Africa to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic? I think it's because of the Chinese government's culpability in the spread of COVID-19, and he's trying to deflect the entire blame that China deserves.

Meanwhile, this Mexican beer has suffered sales[/s].
There is a difference between naming a virus (by a body such as WHO) after a place (geographic location) and naming one after an entire race, especially at a time like this.
