Religion / Re: Is Suicide A Sin? by alheri(f): 11:19am On Feb 01, 2006
queen2:

God has a great plan for your life. God has created us in His image Genesis 1:26-27. He created us for a purpose. God has a specific plan in mind for everyone.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future Jeremiah 29:11

NB: Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you? [17] If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God&'s temple is sacred, and you are that temple.

Hope thats enough, don't commit suicide o.

Very good explanation queen2, ceekay I also hope that helps. Whatever the situation God cannot desrt his children. It says in Isaiah 43:2" when you pass though the waters, I will be with you: and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you work through the fires, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you". God is with you through it all and will not cause you to be tempted more than you can handle.

kismat:

Within the Judaeo-Christian tradition, there are eleven instances of suicide described in the Bible's Old Testament and one in the New Testament. Perhaps the most famous death in the former is the suicide of King Saul following his defeat in the hands of the Philistines, heard in David’s lament, and ‘how are the mighty fallen’. Saul had sought the assistance of his bodyguard to help kill himself. The soldier was horrified at the irreligious notion of killing his appointed King, and turned the sword upon himself. Saul, apparently aided by such an example, then followed suit. It appears that the avert prohibition against suicide was first formerly pronounced by Saint Augustine, who in his City of God describes the action as a ‘moral sin’.
The Church did not always condemn suicide when, for example, following some severe assault, such as rape, the victim took a ‘virtuous’ or honourable way out. She could then claim sympathy and the forgiveness of her society and family, in both Roman and Christian times.

As shown, neither the Judaic nor Christian parts of the Bible are there direct injunctions against suicide.

Whether directly or indirectly, whether the Bible does not specifically mention suicide and condenms it directly or not, there is still nowhere in the Bible where suicide is supported. From the verses quoted by queen2 from the Bible, suicide is not biblical.

I agree completely. Jesus made peace with God possible, Jesus is the way.

Confusion in its entirety! I thought, in your confused christendom, Jesus was god, so who did he make peace with possible? Himself?

[/quote]

If you want to put it that way, yes. God, Jesus Christ and the Holy spirit are indeed ONE and the same. One in essense, three in personality,TOGETHER IN UNITY. (I know that is too much for you to comprehend).

There can only be One God, ALLAH! The Sublime!

Family / Re: How Many Children Will You Love To Have? by alheri(f): 3:08pm On Jan 30, 2006
I would love to have like 10 kids just to out do my mother, she had 8. But considering the economic situation in the country, 4 is cool by me.
Family / Re: Child Labor: The 'House Help' Phenomenom by alheri(f): 2:56pm On Jan 26, 2006
Are you serious? WOAW, If its me, I think she'll have to go. ASAP. She might have been planning to blackmail you as the person
that impregnated her. I know of someone whose help got pregnant and lied the husband was responsible. The wife stood by her husband and said it was a lie. It went on for over a week. People around were begining to wander if the man was really responsible till the help confessed it was blackmail. I will advise you guys to let her go, I know 13500 is alot but not worth it.

@ Kismat,

Please where exactly are you heading with all these questions about Christians kneeling to pray?
layi:

Exactly. U keep asking questions. A non christian trying to teach christians christianity. shocked

Na today? Thats her style. You guys just wait and see, she'll start up a new thread on christianity again as soon as she hits a brick wall on this. Very pathetic I must say, very pathetic.

wahalaman:

Dear Kismat,

before you can understand the answer to your question, you need to first understand the meaning of the word PRAYER.

Position is not the problem, the problem is weather or not you are really communicating or just doing some meaningless rituals.

What ever position that works for you, go for it, and forget about where it is written.

Several times I've prayed while in bed, driving, while in the gym, sleeping in dreams, kneeling, standing, in the kitchen, in the toilet, in the shower, just name it.in the movies............................so men Wake up!

wahalaman, you spoke wisely here.
Fashion / Re: Is It Ok For A Nigerian Girl To pierce her nose for the sake of fashion? by alheri(f): 4:40pm On Jan 18, 2006
da808cutie:

i don't think nose peircing has ever been a fashion trend, fashion definitely shouldn't be an excuse for 'mutation'.

"mutation"? You must mean mutilation, yeah? Well, as long as am mutilating myself I dont think anyone should fret about it. Nose piercing has been a fashion trend in the north even before I was born, you can make enquiries and you'll find that out. Fulani and women from the far north here in Niaja dont consider nose piercing a big deal. Infact my professor in university(a female from maiduguri) had two nose piercings. Its no big deal!

Fashion / Re: Is It Ok For A Nigerian Girl To pierce her nose for the sake of fashion? by alheri(f): 10:36am On Jan 18, 2006
I had my nose pierced some years back but I let it close up cause I got tired of it. You wouldnt even notice till I tell you cause the scare is almost none existent. Am gonna go pierce it again when I go to KD cause I want to and cause I can. Its no big deal up north, its kinda part of the northern culture. Even local hausa women do it, so I dont think it has anything to do with going to America. Maybe that was when she felt like going ahead with it.

larger_20:

I personally don't find girl with piercing attractive

Are you against nose piercing only or piercing in general?

Seun:

The problem is that it's permanent. Once you deform your nose with a piercing, you won't be able to fix it when you come back to your senses.

What the hell is that for? angry Come back to your sences? What makes you think people with piercings are senseless?

Family / Re: Role Of A Woman In Her Home And To Her Husband by alheri(f): 4:11pm On Jan 17, 2006
True chrisd. Even if I had a fight with my husband and was pissed at him when he went out, I always try to welcome him back with a smile. Even when angry, I welcome him with warmth, of cause I'll deal with the issue later. But welcoming your husband with nagging or insults will only make him find his rest else where. After a hard days work, a man should be able to come home to a loving environment, a woman too, but for a man I think its more important.
Family / Re: Role Of A Woman In Her Home And To Her Husband by alheri(f): 3:42pm On Jan 17, 2006
As to a woman's role to her husband or as a wife, I think a woman should mean "rest" to her husband. For a man,  after been around the world and meeting a sorts of women, He seeks a resting place and he finds that in a wife. Please, I hope noone is gonna misunderstand me. A resting place for a man is that place where he is accepted for who he is, a place he wont be judged, a place without nagging, a place he is made to feel important, a place he is loved without question. A woman should be a resting place for her husband. He should never feel like he would rather be anywhere else than spend time with you. Your husband should feel most comfortable in your company not in the company of strange women.
Been a good wife isnt easy, but can be possible with the right backing.
Family / Re: Role Of A Woman In Her Home And To Her Husband by alheri(f): 3:28pm On Jan 17, 2006
Very true chrisd. I cant remember the verse right now but even the bible says to train a child from infancy. Kids do feel important when you give them a responsibility. Even at a very young age, they can handle responsibility if you make it fun. My 4yr old enjoys cleaning up cause I try to make it fun. We sing and create drama while doing stuff together. Even my 14 months old baby knows how to put away her toys after she is through With them. Its always a joy as a mother watching them do these things.
Family / Re: Housewife or Working Woman? by alheri(f): 3:13pm On Jan 17, 2006
I would rather be a career house wife than be a career working woman. As a wife and mother, your loyalties should lie with your family and not your company. If I have to compromise than my job will have to go. I nearly gave up my job in december last year but for my husbands intervention. I felt it was taking too much of my time cause I had to work even on sundays sometimes. I felt I wasnt giving my husband and kids enough time. I was becoming a stranger to my baby and I was loosing the sparks with my husband. I was too tired to do my chores well and I wasnt taking good care of myself. I wanted to resign. I felt It wasnt worth losing my family over. My husband advised me to stay a while and talk to my boss about all my concerns, which I did. He has hired someone else to share the work load with me. Honestly, I wouldnt have blinked twice about leaving my job for my family. My husband and kids are my everything. I cant loose them over no career. Its just not worth it as far as am concerned.

Men pete, am really impressed with your attitude. We need more people like you in Naija, especially this lagos. Alot of people are too scared to challenge to the police in Nigeria. They get scared of the out-dated guns(with good reason though wink) the police carry and they just pay. And do make sure you have all your papers when you come including your radio permit or something like that. When they stopped my father-in-law last year and couldnt find anything to nail him with, they charged him for not having a permit or something for his car radio. IMAGINE! He had to pay them 5 grand but they where all begging by the time my mother-in-law, a lawyer and former S.G here in Nigeria came and nearly brought down the place. Like you said, we really need to be aware of our rights.

Islam for Muslims / Re: God and Allah: Are they the same? by alheri(f): 11:22am On Jan 13, 2006
chrisd:

When Jesus said " I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me", Jesus used this illustration to reveal God's attitude towards our sins and how absurd it is to think that we can pay it back.

Someone had to suffer and pay for our sins since God is JUST. It was Jesus. Therefore, I should admit my sin, turn from my sin, believe and receive the gift of forgiveness and praise to God . Jesus had made peace with God possible again. That's what that means.

I agree completely. Jesus made peace with God possible, Jesus is the way.

Am not arguing he's a christian if he says he is. But the Bible says in John 14:6 " Jesus said to him " I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me". Thats the way to the Father in the Bible, if he's a christian then he should know: Theres only ONE way.
