Culture › Re: Divorce Rate Among Yoruba Couples & Igbo Couples by aljharem3: 7:50pm On Oct 09, 2011 |
rhymz: Yoruba women liberated?? What does that even mean? Some folks here just like to make faulty assumptions to defend the indefencible sha. So Igbo women are in bondage, abi all because they are ready to see their marriages work and do not consider divorce as an option. Some are even trying to make out Yoruba women as this no-nonsense, less submissive amazons. Anyway, I find it funny that only Yoruba people have such views of their women like that cos in reality they are the most docile and extremely submissive women in the pack if we were to take a sample space of Nigerian Southern Women. Sentiments aside, I have had my own fair share of Yoruba sweethearts and I make bold to say that their women are very submissive, docile and easy to please. If we were talking on average terms, those of us that have dated women outside of our tribe can attest to the fact that Igbo women will consider a lot of things before they agree to date you let alone marry you. It is common knowledge that just like their counter part, Igbo women are agressive and a lil headstrong, you as a man will have to earn their submission to you, you won't get it on a platter hence the general saying that Igbo girls like money cos they won't even look at your face if you are not on the average, financially well off to keep up with the financial demands of a serious and intersting relationship. Truth be told, if we were to compare who is more submissive & subservient in a relationship between Igbo women and Yoruba women, the latter will come tops. Yet submissiveness or the lack of it can not realy account for the high incidences of divorce and separation among yoruba families and couples, especially when it is compared to the very conservative Igbo families. It is even laughable to want to attribute it to Yoruba women being liberated cos in my humble opinion, there are far more uneducated & unexposed Yoruba women than can be said of Igbo women. Also, even here in Lagos, there are more financially well off Igbo people( both males and females) than their yoruba counterparts. These people have got the money to get all the freedom, exposure and liberation ideology they want not to talk of the Igbos in both the SE and SS region, many of whom are not any different financially from their brothers in west. In fact, if there is any culture that encourages liberation, self-reliance and sufficiency it is the Igbo culture. That is why an average Igbo man is more inclined to having his own business than wait for eternity for some high paying white collar jobs. So the argument of Yoruba women being liberated more than their igbo counterpart has no iota of realism in its claims if were to look at things devoid of any sentiments. Yoruba women are not any more liberated than their Igbo counterparts, lets not make hasty assumptions and conclusions based on what we see alone in Lagos. There are just as much Igbo women in business, if not more sef as their yoruba counterparts. Just as it can be claimed that Yoruba women engage in commerce likewise is the case of Igbo women, the only difference here is that she in not neccessarily the bread winner of the family unlike the yoruba women whose husbands most times do not show any serious sense of responsibility towards both the woman and the childrien. In conclusion, I believe culture and traditional beliefs play a very big role in how marriages in these two tribes fare in the long run. Cultural idiosyncracies, traditional views on divorce and what is generally accepted by the customs of these two tribes. Bros na wa for u o |

With all the foolishness of Ghanaian politicians not once have I heard any of them say anything bad about Nigeria let alone try to denegrade the name of Nigeria by spewing lies like these, If you have seen anything like that show me . Nigeria politians on the other hand thrive on bashing and spew lies about Ghana, You remember this ?
https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-321101.0.html VERY WRONG Nigerian politician do not bash Ghanaians or Ghana as a country. Comparing the roads of a state to a country does not mean it is an insult. Each country (nigeria and ghana) have their own fault if at all Ghanaians such as urself feel offended by the statement. Not withstanding comparing Lagos roads with the whole of Ghana roads is NOT bashing but just a comparison. When Americans talk of Nigeria, the refer to us as a country the size of Texas state. Is that bashing or have Nigerian issued a petition or complain of the statement. NO You have to be open-minded on issues like this and do not let rage overcome ur sense of reasoning. Remember that |

tell me how nigeria must go translate into achiver and how ghana must go translate into achiver.
tell me how hausa/fulani undevelopment translate into modern day developement. if what you have upthere in sokoto means development then development is trash.stop comparing your backwardness with others.
if oyo governor and lagos governor should figure out ghananians that means there is something wrong between them. during ghana must go situation,it was so hot in the sw while everyother areas in nigeria was minor.and during nigeria must go it affected yorubas so much ,that means something was wrong.
my point is if there are any problem let it be solved and the society has to know it so that we will mind our steps. simple Look here, you tribalised it from the on set by your title "Between Yoruba and Ghana what is the problem"I was civil enough to calmly explain to you but instead your reply was the most hypocritical post I have seen on NL by insinuating that I insulted by my first post. During Ghana must go era, it was a Nigerian action against Ghanaian government who deported Nigerians back before Nigerians retaliated (which to me was childish). Now you come here specifying yorubas alone like they had the power to deport people out of the country without the FG. Or do yorubas control immigration officers now ? Also you talk of hausa/fulani underdevelopment but your people KEEP TRAVELLING TO THE NORTH IN VASE NUMBERS FOR social and financial stability each year . Why is that since the place is not developed ? Let me tell you some thing you bigot, you create a problem where is there is none. Nigerians and Ghanaians have no problem with each other no to even talk of any particular ethnic group of Nigeria origin. Again as i said earlier, I do not expect you and people that are as small minded as you to reason this through because all you see is tribe and ethnic groups, that is why I said others should not really come so low as to discuss with una; |

That is why I have always told NL yorubas and northerner to stop the comparisom with una, it drags down the achievments of hausa, fulani, yoruba and kanuri acheievement at the world stage unlike the pettiness by exchanging words with people like you and ur people. Politics › Re: Group Wants Igbanke Included In The Proposed Anioma State by aljharem3: 6:36am On Oct 09, 2011 |
GAR3TH: Anioma State seriously Nigeria already has 36 cancers and you guys want to add a 37th. In a sane country everyone will be against state creation because it leads to less development. THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO BENEFIT FROM STATE CREATION ARE POLITICIANS.
Because in most states in nigeria about 70-80% of states budgets goes towards salaries. Leaving only 20-30% for actual development. Only Lagos state generates enough IGR for it to be sustainable and the other 35 states rely heavily on federal allocations.
When will these ediots who call themselves Nigerians, who call themselves humans realize that states are NOT created based on ETHNICITY but rather are created based on VIABILITY.
STOP CREATING THESE CANCERS, STOP CREATING THESE POINTLESS STATES AND STOP CREATING THESE EDIOTIC POLITICAL POSITIONS. I have had enough of this and yet we still have some moronic people who are for these states.
Seriously, are these people brain washed? Did these people go to school? I sorry but even a Five year old can do basic math. if X amount of funds goes toward state salaries and you create a new state whats the new result, 2x!!!!
You are now paying twice the amount of salaries for governing the same piece of land because you now have 2 state governing the original land and relativity the same amount of allocation.
Its common sense !!!!!!!! but you have people like the guy in the article brainwashing people on tribal and regional thoughts so he can achieve his pointless goal on creating Anioma state.
Like I said before states are NOT created based on ETHNICITY but rather are created based on VIABILITY.
Anioma state will just be like the other pointless state creations in nigeria who cant even pay a simple minimum wage nor do the have the budget for development.
Whats the definition of insanity, When you do the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result. Correct if it is up to me, alot of states would be merged together. For example Plateau and kaduna, lagos and ogun, sokoto and zamfara, cross river and akwa ibom, imo and abia, ekiti and ondo, kwara and kogi. etc Majority of these states are not valid on there own and would be more productive if they are merged together to make a stronger economy. Not withstanding, everything in Nigeria is done based on tribalism. Alone this year, the proposal of about 7-10 states have been submitted to NA. The southern Kaduna want there own state The anioma want there own state The igbomina/okun/ilorin want there own state out of kwara The Nupe want there own state still out of kwara The ijaws want toru ebe state The ijaws want beni ebe state The ijaws want kengema state the ijaws want abadi state the ogoni want ogoni state The ijebus want ijebu state with the itsekiris The ikale want Oluwa state I can keep going on and on But one thing is common, there is no development without compromise. All the states I mentioned are not valid and even the size of the state would be a few square kilometers and the large ones are even worse of as there capital city would be the only residential place |

2mch: Regardless the fact is he is quick to throw the oil crap around. SW has its oil no matter how small. The fact remains pre-oil we did not starve. If the oil goes we will not starve. So let them quickly carry the oil away. Most of the companies in Lagos are commercial sef not industrial. Please take your oil away and we will see who will benefit the most now. The greed will follow the oil and it will be a blessing in deed. Besides Itsekiri's own majority of the oil. So what the muscle he is using to jump up and down sef, ontop something wey nor be im papa own.hahaha. funny guy. My point is that oil economy is still based very much on Oil and I do not want to lie to you that it is not. Yorubaland has Oil and not based on baylsea state or rivers state crude oil but based on pro-yoruba groups like the itsekiri and ilaje who own 75% of the oil land in delta state which is the largest oil producing state. Beaf is turning this into a Niger-delta struggle and I do not want you to fall for his trap. @TOPIC The Hausa or any other group be it yoruba or igbos have NO RIGHT TO ATTACK THE AUTHORITY NO MATTER THE SITUATION. this is my take. |

2mch: Alj Harem, you and your nothern brothers can move the oil and drink it with straws. Ok? Lagos does not get enough allocation for its population and it is still standing. Dont expect a small state to carry majority of the burden of Nigeria, and then you are screaming oil money. Where? what useless oil money? Oil is part of lagos does not mean it came from other lands. It all came from lagos, itsekiri, mahin, awori and ilajeland. So lagos dependance on oil does not necessarily ND oil (core states of the niger delta) Do not let beaf deceive you to thing lagos is a leach; if any it is leaching other territories that are pro-lagos and not beaf's village or any eastern part. |
