Safety First. Our aim: an incident free workplace. Here's one of my favorite safety quotes: "We choose to have zero injuries. We choose to have zero injuries this day and do this, not because it is easy, but because it is hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win, because we care for ourselves and others too." Ojestas:Haahaha. You just reminded me of a guy named Juwon. That guy can drink for Africa! |
@OP. Yes, it's technically correct. However, the topic of this thread is not. |
Na wa o. Some years back a friend from the northern part of the country explained to me how the cattle business works. Rich and powerful men buy these cows in their infancy and hand it over to the almajiris to herd. The herdsmen lead the cows from the north to the south and back north in search of pastures. The herdsmen don't own these cows..they are accountable to the cabals who own them. They are usually paid peanuts. The cabals in turn sell these cows and rake in a huge profit. My friend actually wanted me to invest in it but I declined. I couldn't fathom how I'd hand over a million naira worth of cows to some almajiris just because I might make up to N10m. What happens if the cows get rustled? Now I know better!!! The cabals arm these herdsmen. Don't be surprised some of the cabals are generals and majors in the army!! I hear President Buhari also owns cows. Does he have a ranch?? If no where does his cows get their forage from? Then I daresay the President is guilty of trespassing on other people's land!! Now you can understand why they've been trying to smuggle a national grazing bill into law since 2008. You can also understand why the army seems reluctant in taking a decisive action. I'm calling out President Buhari and El Rufai on this matter. Na the same the same people!!! |
fiizznation:SMH You Fulanis will soon lead this country into a civil war. First, you must understand that you don't have any right whatsoever to trespass into other people's land/farm. If your cattle is rustled, report to the relevant authorities and not take matters into your own hands. Do you know how many women have been raped, men killed and children orphaned by your tribesmen? You say they are from neighbouring countries. Fine and good. How come they smuggle weapons into the nation? These farmers don't have any problem if you lead your cattle into any of their lands filled with grass. But when a farmer collects a loan from a cooperative and plants his crops, there's no justification for leading your cows into their farmland. Your community leaders aren't helping matters. The earlier they come out and rein on these herdsmen, the better. |
divinehand2003:Have you heard of Cpl Rakumi the camel in 65 battalion NA? I'm sure if he dies he will be buried with full honors. |
Pinocchio how do you expect us to believe this? If you've got enough evidence take it to the police or EFCC. Seriously, Nigerians are getting tired of all these media trials and accusations. If you cannot prove anything against the said thieves or have them convicted even if its for a month, stfu!!! |
Naija, it's just a matter of time and other sectors would follow suit. Companies in a bid to obtain forex will ask customers to pay in dollars thereby dollarizing the economy. |
Na wa o. Minister Adeosun said we didn't need IMF loans basically because we would have to devalue the naira. Now, we'll be getting loans from IMF's sister- the World Bank. All that grammar the Rencap report was blowing was just a case for devaluing the naira. Let's be consistent for once na. Nigeria and it's yo- yo policies. |
tit:tit I expected more from you. Did you have to call me a liar? A little use of google would have saved you the energy of typing what you spewed up there. Read about special convoy rights here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convoy?_e_pi_=7%2CPAGE_ID10%2C7862841676 http://cdnc.ucr.edu/cgi-bin/cdnc?a=d&d=HTES19410505.2.66 And here's what your almighty US did in Tikrit: http://www.rense.com/general47/passing.htm I can post many more incidents about overtaking armed convoys but this will suffice. Like I said, I don't subscribe to the idea of those aides getting physical with the lawmaker...they could easily have used other defensive driving techniques to block her off the CG's convoy. |
tunjijones:I'm very much glad you don't want to insult me. If you had, I wouldn't have replied you. We learn everyday. In many countries in Europe, the highway code talks about convoys having right of way. A little googling of convoy rules would enlighten us. The US marine have been known to open fire on people that overtook their convoy. Did you know that if a convoy overtakes you, you are expected to pullover? It doesn't have to be in the constitution, there's something called the highway driving code. And no sir, I wasn't the one that pointed a gun at city center. I am not a policeman. |
Okay, Now I'm not holding brief for the CG of prisons neither am I supporting the actions of the aides slapping the lawmaker. But there are certain things that need to come to light and everyone should take note. The CG is entitled to have armed escorts. With all the mafias, cabals and terrorist groups running around town and some of them locked up or held in detention, the CG and even his close family members can become soft targets. If one terrorist or ayatollah group whatever that means pick him up, they could jail break their members locked up by the govt. Now the lawmaker attempted overtaking the CG's convoy at the gate. This, in all ramification, is totally wrong!!! Rules governing military convoys require other road users to treat convoys as a 'single vehicle'. When the first vehicle in the convoy passes an intersection, the other vehicles must be allowed to do so without any interruption. Convoy rules also require other road users to follow at an acceptable distance and can only overtake when the convoy gives permission to do so. Clearly, madam lawmaker driving was seen as aggressive driving and who knows in today's world of espionage and terrorism, the CG's aides were agitated. Having said that, I don't subscribe to the physical handling of the lady. There are other defensive driving techniques the aides could have used to block off the lawmakers car. Safety First. |
This will be interesting. |
RIP sir. That's my former classmate's dad. |
No economy grows when it depends solely on importation. You think flooding your country with another country's products is a sign of growth?? I'm certain in a few months time you'd be complaining of how there are no jobs and we import everything including safety matches and toothpicks. Why do we need techno phones when we could easily have our own dangote phones or even mashin phones? Go figure! |
1 Lesotho loti = 13 Naira. |
![]() OP I have attached a copy of the bill you're talking about. Isn't it a 2011 bill or was it resurrected? |
Most of our imports come from China. This move I believe will minimize exchange rate losses. It will also reduce demand on the dollar causing the dollar to fall to the naira. However, we must understand that this will not make our economy grow in the long run. Until we become a producing economy, we are on a long thing. Nigerians should never forget this: we are a nation with huge human and natural resources. We have the potentials of becoming one of the greatest nations on earth. The choice is ours. We either unlock these potentials or become another Zimbabwe. PDP has failed this nation and the APC hasn't provided enough clear leadership. Do we look to KOWA? |
Guy Abeg Your Future First. |
Sibrah:You can ask a company to fulfil its CSR by providing access roads OR boreholes OR electricity OR healthcare facilities and not tell them to provide access roads AND boreholes AND electricity AND healthcare facilities. |
THEWRITERSMIND:Please someone should explain the bolded part for me. Ha! What kind of country is this sef ![]() |
The policies of the government in the last few weeks are nothing but knee- jerk reactions. Today we tighten our FX policy, tomorrow we relax it, next we ban sales of forex to BDCs then we remember an FEA Act of 2004 that if implemented will make banks become no different from BDCs. An Act that if implemented will just be stating the obvious- we are a step away from devaluing the naira. All these are reactive policies. If the government is serious, they need to come up with something more proactive- a sound economic plan. First, we need to understand how we got here. Falling oil prices, corruption in high places, and an import based economy have contributed majorly to the depletion of our foreign reserve. Oversupply of oil (caused by the Saudis trying to kick out American producers and Iran coming into production) might just ensure oil prices never see the $100 dollar high in the coming years except maybe if there is a war which nobody prays for. We need to tell ourselves the truth. Our economy is at the point of recession and may not be able to absorb further shocks. Devaluing the naira is a no-no and this FEA 2004 Act will only provide us with a false sense of relief in the short term. We need to come up with something more solid. We need a concrete plan that will guide us out of this seregenti we have found ourselves. Here's what I believe might work for us: 1. We need the best minds to start with. The President should stop looking for FDIs but concentrate on bringing in technocrats to run key sectors of the economy. Let me give an example, if we bring in top Nigerian researchers and give them a mandate to produce say wheat within the country, Nigeria would become self reliant in wheat production saving us scarce forex. We might even export to some African countries. Now consider replicating this in areas such as pharmaceuticals, food, textiles, industrial machineries etc etc. we will be doing ourselves a lot of good. 2. We need to invest more on infrastructure. It is not a sin to have good road networks, stable electricity, security and so on. This will create an enabling environment for FDIs. I mean these are the things investors look out for before bringing in their investments to your country. 3. We need to develop our solid mineral industry. Tin and Columbite, Iron, Uranium etc can still fetch us some forex you know. 4. We also need to build more refineries and stop the importation of petroleum products. I mean if we have small but highly efficient refineries spread across the country, and break up the monopoly of NNPC, we will stop this madness called fuel importation. This will really save us a lot in forex. 5. Finally our imam and pastors need to pray more. They need to pray that the spirit of Chrometophobia (fear of money) and Kleptohobia (fear of stealing) come upon all those politicians that steal from our national wealth and hide it in all those bad bad places eg Panama. Just Negodu. Arrant Nonsense ![]() |
I can't trust my life with this guy. Yeah he may be good at what he does, but I just can't!! Reasons: 1. It's highly unprofessional of him to display what he does on social media. 2. He is disobeying the military high command's order prohibiting military guys displaying their pics on social media. May the Good Lord keep him and other of our troopers who put their lives in harms way safe. |
Wow. Thumbs up!! You write so well! |
