Crime / Man Jailed 2 Years For Stealing N350 Yoghurt by aloyemeka1: 12:43am On Nov 25, 2011
Man Jailed 2 Years For Stealing N350 Yoghurt
An Osogbo Senior Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday sentenced 25-year-old Fatai Samotu to two years imprisonment for stealing yoghurt, valued at N350.

Samotu, who was dragged before the court was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to charges of stealing and unlawful entry.

The offences, the Police Prosecutor, Mr. Joshua Oladoye, said were committed on November 20 at Omo-West and Balogun areas of Osogbo, where Samotu stole the yoghurt and two telephone handsets.

“Samotu entered the house of one Kabiru Anibaba through the window with the aid of a long stick and took away one yoghurt valued at N350 and one GSM handset valued N4,500.

“He proceeded into the house of one Adebayo Adeyeye using the same trick and stole another GSM handset valued N3,500.

“The offences are punishable under Sections 412 and 319 of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol 11, Laws of Osun 2003,” the police officer informed the court.

The Counsel to the convict, Mr. Amechi Ugwu, pleaded for leniency on behalf of his client before Senior Magistrate Olusola Aluko, convicted and sentenced Samotu to two years imprisonment, on each of the three count-charge.

The court, however, gave the convict an option of N15,000 fine.

Aluko said, “The convict is, however, given an option of N5, 000 on each of the three charges, sentence is concurrent while the fine is cumulative.”

Family / My Wife Beats Me, Man Tells Court by aloyemeka1: 12:42am On Nov 25, 2011
My Wife Beats Me, Man Tells Court

A civil servant and father of three, Vincent Obodo, 43 has pleaded with an Otto-Ijanikin Customary Court, Ojo Local Government, Lagos, southwest Nigeria to save him from his second wife who, he confessed, was fond of beating him.

Testifying in the petition he filed against his wife, Angela, the divorce-seeking man accused Angela of beating him with broom and pestle whenever they fought.

Obodo told the court that he married Angela out of pity, adding that his decision to marry her as a second wife was a major mistake.

He said since he married her, he has not known peace. He also accused her of patronising soothsayers and native doctors and often acted on the good or bad information they gave her.

“I married Angela out of pity because we were childhood friends back in the village. I was already married with children when I met her again and the childhood love we once shared was ignited and an illicit romance kicked off.

“When our affairs became risky and my wife started suspecting our movements, I had to formalise our union by visiting her parents. I paid her bride price while I also performed all other marital rites,” he said.

Speaking further, the Kokori-Delta State born father of three, said: “To avoid clash, I decided to let my wives stay in different apartments. But whenever I am with Angela, she would be so obsessed and ready to go to any length to see that I don’t communicate with my first wife.

“Whenever she hears a rumour about me and other women, she will charge at me like an angry bull and beat me silly. In most instances, she uses broom, her slippers and even pestle to hit me so hard. The last incident was when she accused me of sleeping with her salesgirl, Anna.

“She almost killed me and threatened to hire killers to silence Anna. The last time we had a quarrel, she told me shamelessly to my face that if not that she loves me dearly, she would have taken care of me the way she treated her ex-boyfriend who jilted her.

“She threatened to organise boys to kidnap and beat me up. After all she had done to me and other things I heard about her, I don’t want to die in her arms,” he pleaded with the court.

Did you say I?. The law has nothing to do with you babe. It was handed down to all muslims by Allah. So I do not depend on you to get information about what is written in the quran unless you are ulama who may want to interpret it differently. However, the law pretty much is not inexplicable, even a dolt will understand what Allah said there. Asalaam Alaikum!

I didn't bring Christianity/bible up,  Why are you still emphasising that muslims are told to lie even after i proved that the evidence says otherwise?

Again i reiterate, there is no point where the quran/authenic hadith tells the muslim to lie,  That is the default. God will however have mercy under certain strict conditions.

The Quran states , Truly Allah guides not one who transgresses and lies! (Q40 28)

You guys are incredulous; you believe any lie spread about islam. There can't be a discussion with a door nail.

I was talking about Lagossharia and not you besides, you didn't provide any contrary evidence, rather you confirmed the initial claim that Allah and Muhammad instructs their children to be deceptive as long as they are not deceiving fellow muslims. The watchword here is deception; if you notice the Nigerian Boko Haram senator who was arrested yesterday, he used the same deception as instructed by his Allah to fool Jonathan and the national assembly. Deception is perfectly normal to every muslim from what I understand here.

Romans 3:7

American Standard Version (ASV)
7 But if the truth of God through my lie abounded unto his glory, why am I also still judged as a sinner?

New International Version (NIV)
7 Someone might argue, “If my falsehood enhances God’s truthfulness and so increases his glory, why am I still condemned as a sinner?”

King James Version (KJV)
7For if the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory; why yet am I also judged as a sinner?

New World Translation
Yet if by reason of my lie the truth of God has been made more prominent to his glory, why am I also yet being judged as a sinner?

Why are you clearly taking out verse 8 from that sentence?. Verse 8 completes the sentence started prior to verse 7. You are trying so hard to make a sentence out of a phrase. By the way, what has Christianity and the bible got to do with the fact that Allah instructs His followers to lie?. So, all the prophecy by Muhammad were probably deceptive as I have been suspecting. Why does Islam operate on covert deception?.

future excerpts of Femi discussing with one of his baby mama issues:

child: dad how did you and mum hookup?

Femi: ohhh! bird n bees comin up here! i was performin in the club and at that time your mum was still a dancer, and i never really paid much attention to her
cos i was dating your sis mother then, and mid-way into the show, your mum wiggled her massive,  emh! haven't your got homework to do?

child: i jus finished practising my sax

Femi: sex!

child: no silly! i said sax as in saxophone

Femi: ohh good,

child: sex is only on friday with aunty bisi.

Femi: my man. come here. Did i tell you about how your grand daddy got me a bong and a hooker for my 18th birthday,

Who told you his dancers are not as classy as him?. It depends on how classy he is in the first place.

That is a collective statement. All of them are not dubious. Was it not last year that a cop found and returned N2m to the owner somewhere in Asaba?. Calling such an honest man a thief is very unfair besides, there are born again police men and women in Nigeria who are prayer warriors.

Nigerian policemen stole my money, N1.3m wristwatch – Visiting Briton
Written by Adelani Adepegba

It seems that despite the efforts of the authorities to rid the Nigeria Police of bad eggs, many policemen have refused to turn a new leaf. This seems to be the case of two policemen who were alleged to have robbed a British citizen, Khomeini Bhukari, of N.2m and a Breitling wristwatch valued at N1.3m.

Bhukari

Bhukari, head, African division of Energy Solution Limited, said he had gone to unwind at the Millennium Park, Abuja, on October 29, 2011 around 6pm. He stayed for about an hour and was about to leave the area when the two policemen, Daniel Marcus and Samuel Epah, allegedly accosted him at the gate, saying he had violated Nigerian laws by staying late in the park.
He told PUNCH METRO that the two men took him to a corner of the park and threatened to deal with him.

“The two policemen who were reeking of alcohol said ‘you know we can strip you naked, kidnap you or break your head and nobody can save you, not even the IG or President because only the three of us are here.’ They asked for my identity card, but I explained that I left it in the hotel. So, they searched me and took away the N200,000 on me and my Breitling wristwatch which costs N1.3m,” Bhukari said.

Bhukar said the policemen demanded his BlackBerry phone, but he begged them, and when they saw him trying to make a call, they threatened to smash the phone.

The Briton said he would have been stranded, but for a few Naira notes tucked in a corner of his wallet which the policemen did not see when they checked his wallet.

Asked how he got the names of the policemen, Bhukari explained that he pretended that he was not scared, but lingered and chatted with the men for sometime while looking at the name tags on their uniforms.

Politics / Ogogoro Law Should Be Implemented In Benue – Benue Speaker by aloyemeka1: 4:44pm On Nov 23, 2011
Ogogoro law should be implemented in Benue – Benue Speaker
on NOVEMBER 23, 2011 · in POLITICS

BY PETER DURU

Hon. Dave Iorhemba, the new Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly is what one would call a child of circumstance. He came on board recently after the Appeal Court sitting in Makurdi upturned the election of the immediate past Speaker, Hon. Terhemen Taazor. In this interview, Barr. Iorhemba who represents Guma State Constituency on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party speaks on his agenda for the 7th Assembly among other nagging issues. Excerpts

What is your agenda for the Assembly?

Government is a continuum. We started this journey since 2007 and his Excellency, the Governor of the State, Dr. Gabriel Suswam has already set out an agenda for his government and it is that agenda that we are pursuing. We have crossed over from the (first) four years to another second term and we are still continuing with the agenda which he termed “Our Benue Our Future”.

As a legislative house, all we intend to do is to enact laws for good governance of Benue State. We also want to collaborate with the executive to create an enabling environment for investors to come in to do business in the state. The laws must be there to protect the business man’s investment and that is our agenda for now.

The parliamentary workers in the assembly have threatened a show down over the nonpayment of their accumulated out-fit allowances. How is the leadership reacting to it?

Well, part of the money has been paid to them and I am sure they are working out the modalities for the payment of the last part of the allowance.

The code of conduct bureau has complained over the lukewarm attitude by the past and present assembly members to the activities of the bureau. Are you concerned?
The people of the state are complaining about non implementation of laws particularly, the child right law and the Ogogoro law which have been passed but without implementation by the executive. What is the state assembly doing to ensure implementation of these laws?

You see, the issue of execution of laws passed by the state assembly is not an issue of the assembly again. Once a law has been enacted by the assembly, and the governor assents to it, it becomes a law of the state. And so, we are calling upon the relevant law enforcement agencies to ensure that these laws are enforced. It is not for us.

We don’t have any oversight functions over execution of laws. The laws are in place and what the Benue people are expected to do is to abide by the laws. For instance, the Ogogoro law is just like any other law captured in the penal code, so if any person is found violating it, the law should take its course by prosecuting and convicting the person.

And I am sure if that is done the people will become afraid. I also encourage the media to make noise about this to encourage the law enforcement agents to implement these laws; let them make arrests, let them arraign people in court and subsequently, try them and that is how it is supposed to be. I urge Benue People generally to be respecters of laws. It is not just merely passing the laws; it is the enforceability of the laws that matters. The law enforcement agencies should be up and doing in their jobs.

Court dissolves marriage over husband’s inability to satisfy wife in bed
on NOVEMBER 22, 2011 · in NEWS

An Ibadan Customary Court on Monday dissolved the nine-year-old marriage between a driver, Kolapo Nureni, and his wife over alleged nymphomaniac tendencies.

Kolapo told the court that his wife was never satisfied with his performance in bed and had on several occasions disgraced him in the public.

He accused her of adultery and stealing, alleging that she stole N500 given to the couple by a visiting relative.

The wife, Latifat, who agreed to the dissolution of the marriage, however, told the court that her husband was an addicted Indian hemp smoker.

She alleged that on several occasions, she had sold her clothes to cater for the family, while her husband never showed any concern.

“He would beat me up to collect any money found on me for Indian hemp, while the clothes I sold were bought for me by my parents.”

The judge, Mr Adewuyi Ademola, dissolved the marriage and granted the custody of the two children to Latifat. He also ordered Nureni to be paying N8,000 monthly for their upkeep. (NAN)

CAN faults CBN’s $5m investment in Islamic biz group
on NOVEMBER 23, 2011 · in NEWS

By Sam Eyoboka
CONTROVERSY that attended the issue of non-profit (Islamic) banking in Nigeria was yet to settle down when it appeared that Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, was on another collision course with the Christian commu-nity in the country as he was said to have invested the nation’s $5 million in an Islamic organisation known as International Islamic Liquidity Management Corporation.

The investment, according to reports, automatically makes Nigeria, a secular nation, to be a full member of the Islamic body.

According to the reports, there are 191 members of the body comprising 54 regulatory and supervisory authorities, seven interna-tional inter-governmental organisations and 130 market players, professio-nal firms and industry associations operating in 43 jurisdictions of which the CBN is one such regulatory bodies that has full membership status.

Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, National President of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, the umbrella body of Christians, who had spearheaded a campaign against the manner the CBN governor has been using the nation’s collective resources to champion the cause of Islamic banking in the country, responded in a telephone interview.

He told Vanguard: “If what you are telling me is true, then it confirms what we have been saying all along which people have refused to acknowledge and accuse us of heating up the polity. When we react to certain subterranean attempts by some individuals to Islamise the nation, we are accused of heating up the polity.

“They don’t acknowledge that we are only reacting to the actions of certain individuals who appear to be untouchables.”

According to the CAN president, the decision by the CBN governor to drag Nigeria into the Islamic group is reminiscent of the way the General Ibrahim Babangida’s military administration dragged the country into the Organisation of Islamic Countries, OIC.

Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has formally joined International Islamic Liquidity Management Corporation with an initial investment of $5 million. The investment accords Nigeria the full membership of the body. What is not clear, however, is if the investment has the backing of the Presidency that has the power to approve such investment.

At the tail end of Chukwuma Soludo’s tenure, the CBN investment in Africa Finance Corporation became contentious as he was accused of not having Presidential approval for the investment of public funds in AFC. The matter was fully investigated.

As at March 2011, there are191 members of the IFSB comprising 54 regulatory and supervisory authorities, seven international inter-governmental organisations and 130 market players, professional firms and industry associations operating in 43 jurisdictions of which the Central Bank of Nigeria is one such regulatory body that has full membership status.

By this development, Nigeria has fully embraced Islamic banking which the CBN had said was non-interest banking it was pursuing. The nine founding members of the IFSB are Bahrain Monetary Authority (now known as the Central Bank of Bahrain), Bank Indonesia, Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Central Bank of Kuwait, Bank Negara Malaysia, State Bank of Pakistan, Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency, Bank of Sudan (now known as Central Bank of Sudan) and the Islamic Development Bank.

The CBN Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi is a council member of the body. Other council members are Chairman, Mohammed Said Shahin Governor Central Bank of Jordan, Deputy Chairman, Rasheed M. Al-Maraj Governor Central Bank of Bahrain,

Dr. Atiur Rahman Governor Bangladesh Bank, Haji Mohd Rosli Haji Sabtu Managing Director Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam, Djama Mahamoud Haid

Nigerian student stabbed to death, mutilated in Russia

A Nigerian student, Mr. Akinola Olufemi, was found stabbed to death in southern Moscow with his ears cut off in a grisly murder, investigators said on Tuesday.

The body of the 28-year-old man was “found with numerous stab wounds and with his ears cut off,” lying close to rail tracks, the Investigative Committee wrote in a statement published on its website.

The man had been stabbed at least eight times, a spokeswoman for the committee, Viktoria Tsyplenkova, told the Interfax news agency.

Moskovsky Komsomolets daily reported that the victim was a student in the northern city of Arkhangelsk and that the crime appeared not to have been a robbery as his papers and wallet were left at the scene.
