BusinessRe: Oil Price Jumps As OPEC Keeps Output Steady, Hits Four year High by AlphaT1(m): 10:18am On Sep 25, 2018
theoldpretender:
NB: This is not a defence of the government, but an explanation if you will of why we should stop being a monoeconomy.

And with that...here is why the $81 oil price won't improve Nigeria's economy

1.We need oil to be at $140 per barrel to be able to have a balanced budget. $81 does not even reach that threshold.

2.Because oil has been below the $140 threshold since the government took over....we will still need to takeloans, and we will continue to take loans until oil reaches the breakeven point of $140...and even after that, we will still be paying back loans.

3.That is how we have been operating since long before 1999. No matter how high or low oil is, we always would keep on taking loan after loan UNTIL we reach the breakeven price...and even then....

4.Even during the last oil boom of 2011-14, because oil was not at the breakeven for those years....we still took loans.

5.The only way forward is simple. We have to

a) End subsides, so that we can save more money and encourage investment...which means more jobs. Yes, fuel will goup....but more investors ,local and foreign will come in, and jobs will be saved.

b)Take strategic loans for power and transport alone...so that we can improve things.

c) End price controls in the power sector. DISCOS cannot make much money on power bills of N2000 a month for metered houses. That way, more money and investment flows into the power sector.

d) Cliche...but we must really 'pight kwarrupshion'.
APC told us they removed subsidies and so price of PMS must be increased from 97 to 145 naira....I am not understanding this government of Mr integrity oo..

Salaries are being paid to all workers, instead of retrenching tens of thousands of workers, SG settled for reducing salary so everyone can keep collecting money

FamilyRe: POF: My Marriage Is About To Be Ruined Becaus Of A Secret I Kept From My Husband by AlphaT1(m): 8:12am On Sep 14, 2018
Kiishii:
I don't even know how to start, I'm really sad and i know it is my fault, i'm sorry if it's a long read i need advise please bear with me.

When i was still single at age 29, I left a relationship that turned out be a mistake so it took time before i met someone else, at age 31 I noticed changes in my period (one month off, one month on) it has never happened to me before so i didnt take it to be anything, then it started skipping 2 months at a roll, then 3 months, i became worried cos i wasn't sexualy active at all. During this period i met my husband and we started something serious, to be on a safe side i went to see the doctor, he said i was fine that it's hormonal changes, he gave me some drugs (mostly vitamins) but it was still skipping, when my husband proposed, i went back to the doctor, he did series of tests, when results came out he said i'm having symptoms of POF, i was shocked, i cried and cried cos it's unheard of for someone my age, i told him i'm about to get married what can i do he said i should start taking hormonal injections since it's too early to be POF, i started taking it and praying all will be fine, all this while i didnt say a word of this to my husband to be or anyone else, then we got married, i took in immediately, it was the happiest day of my life, when we discovered it was triplets i cried tears of joy to the extent that my husband wondered why i was soo happy, i gave birth to 2 boys and a girl, i really thank God for his faithfulness cos i was soo nervous during the pregnancy.

My period was still skipping, then this year march it stopped completely, i went to see 2 different doctors to be sure, they confirmed i have POF (early menopause), i cried and still thank God cos he blessed me with the fruit of the womb but i couldnt bring myself to tell my husband, then he started noticing i dont buy sanitary pad anymore, he asked thinking i was pregnant i always tell him no, at a point he had to ask me if i want to make the pregnancy a surprise, that was when i knew it's time to tell him the truth, i knelt down and told him everything, i held nothing back, he was shocked that i could do something like that to him, he said i should have told him before we got married, i told him he wouldnt have married me if i told him, he was angry, he said what if the hormonal injections didnt work, it was an expensive and wicked gamble, i told him it worked that's what matters now, he abused me and walked out of the house, he didnt come home till the next day, since then things have never been the same.

He hardly talks to me except when necessary, we dont gist and joke anymore, i always beg and beg him, he says he's forgiven me but he goes back to his moody self, we hardly make love anymore, when he finally does, he doesnt look at my face, now he wants me to quit my job so i'll have my full attention on the kids, recently we had a fight about it and i told him point blank i cant quit my job the kids are fine he said i must do that, he doesnt want anything happening to them since i'm no more fertile, who says that? I cried my eyes out that night, It's not my fault nature took it's course on me, i never imagined something like this would ever happen to me.

Now he doesn't talk to me at all anymore, i'm about to tell both our families everything cos i've begged and begged him and i'm tired, i want anonymous advise that's why i'm here, please please married men and women or whoever, how do i go about this?
Talk to his parents especially the one he listens to and obeys very well. Don't put it like you are reporting him to them but for them to help save your marriage, tell them ur initial fears dat made you not to tell him and how sorry you are now. I believe they would understand your plight.

HealthRe: My Thoughts About Nigeria Medical Doctors. by AlphaT1(m): 9:17am On Sep 01, 2018
MissJoy29:
I just hope this writing will be able to adequately capture my frustration, disappointment & dissatisfaction with the Nigeria Medical Doctors in particular & the Health sector in general.
I also apologise in advance for the long post.

For as long as I can remember, I have always been sceptical about going to hospitals. The attitude of the health workers there are nothing to write home about. Both the private and the public hospitals. Even though I still believe that public hospitals are far better than the private hospitals(especially the average ones) in terms of quality service(although you run the risk of dying before you are attended to due to how slow they are).

There are so many anomalies in our hospitals. I have seen & heard really bizzare stuffs going on. From the nonchalant, impatient and highly unprofessional attitude of the attendants, the unhealthy environment, the cranky and harsh attitude of the nurses, the fact that there's also "who you know mentality" when lives are at stake, the subtle way they bill you unnecessarily by paying for almost everything you do in the hospital(consultation fee, file retrieval fee, unit fee, buying of this & that for your treatment that you will end up leaving for them), the lack of medical equipment, the walking up & down paying for one thing or another at different times(even when you are not fit)instead of paying at once, the number of unqualified & seasoned doctors, the location of a hospital's laboratory on the last floor of a three-storey building(like, who does that!!!!), the high cost of drugs and other medical supplies in the hospital's pharmacy as opposed to their cost outside etc.

But I have a particular area I want to focus on.

THE ATTITUDE OF THE NIGERIAN DOCTOR
This thread was born out of my experiences this week at a teaching hospital. These experiences brought back all the others I have had to push to the back of my mind a long time ago for lack of an appropriate channel to express them. For the purpose of this thread, I'm going to use my experiences at ABSUTH (Abia State Teaching Hospital), LASUTH (Lagos State Teaching Hospital), LUTH (Lagos University Teaching Hospital), National Orthopaedic Hospital Igbobi & few private hospitals as yardsticks to buttress my grievances. I'm also going to put into consideration, the attitude of my close friends who are medical personnels.

Note: I'm not here to compare hospitals. I'm only using them to show that the attitudes of the doctors I met there may actually be same(or at least, almost same) with all of them in the country.

Firstly, if I have met 15 medical doctors, only 1 turned out to be sympathetic and humane. Apart from my family doctors and this sympathetic doctor, I don't think I will ever recognise any of the doctors I have seen again. But after 5 years or so, I still recognised him when I saw him again recently at same hospital(and I have memory problems) Why? He was probably the first doctor I ever saw who actually listened cos they WANT TO not cos they HAVE TO. There's a big difference. Most of them just hear you. They don't listen & they don't allow you talk. That's why they ask you questions based on what THEY THINK you feel & not on what you KNOW you feel.

Secondly, these doctors (except my humane doctor) make it look as if they are doing you a favour when they tell you about your ailment. It's as if they want you to pay consultation fees before they explain in details what you are passing through. What am I saying? One actually told me that! Inasmuch as I think majority of them don't actually know their profession that well, I still wonder why they choose to withhold & hoard information. It's bad enough they don't tell on their own without being asked. But it's even worse they withhold when asked. I have recurring ear ache that comes like every 2 years. This time around I asked the doctor (on the advice of a friend) what the cause of the problem is so I can avoid it. And he opened his mouth & said to me, "get solution first. What do you need the cause for? I was stunned to say the least!
Thirdly, they are always very harsh & impatient. You come in to a doctor's office, 30 seconds later, you are out with a piece of paper filled with their illegible writing just cos they are more concerned with what they are scribbling based on what they THINK you are going through than on what you are actually saying. They are hurrying to see as many patients as possible to collect as much money from them as possible and also to go to their private clinics. So no adequate time allocated to a patient.

Again, because of the attitude of some of these doctors, I'm really not surprised why I detest private hospitals because majorly, they are still the ones that establish it. The main reason why I hardly go to private hospitals is because I don't understand why someone will be, say an E.N.T doctor in a public hospital, but will end up being a GENERAL practitioner in his/her private hospital. They are now automatic Ob/gyn, optometrist, dentists, surgeons, paediatricians etc. I can't count the number of times they have mistreated cases they are supposed to refer to specialists like professionals do.

After venting like this, I'd like to hear from the house. Knowing that people in the medical profession are supposed to be warm, humane, sympathetic, kind, friendly, patient, a listener, polite, knowledgeable, seasoned, capable etc, why then do you think most Nigerian medical doctors are cold, nonchalant, impatient, unkind, harsh, rude, condescending? Is it because that's who they are normally or are there some things in the sector and/or in the training process that turn & change them into the aforementioned? Doctors in the house & non-doctors like me, over to you.
It is pathetic, to make it worse, the ones that don't know anything; I mean the half-baked ones are more proud and arrogant. My wife was in Nigeria last year and had vaginal itching. I know dis condition to be a fungal infection caused mostly by Candida spp. and I know the drugs very well: an antifungal cream, a vag. Pessary, oral antifungal(e.g fluco.., ketoco.. etc.), antihistamine, and perhaps an antibiotic.
But i asked her to visit a clinic n not do self medication, she went to one of the claimed best hospitals in town and was given ciprofloxacin, paracetamol and vitamin C tabs. She tried to tell d doc. what they normally give her over here but d doc. guy became angry that my wife was trying to teach him his job. To cut d story, I told her to throw away d paracetamol and vitamin C, go to a pharmacy n buy a single dose of cap. fluco..150mg, piriton and a fungal vag. Cream....and within two days it cleared like magic.
Some of them are killers not doctors!

I don't see how this will work honestly. When you get to clinical stage of medicine, you tend to forget the basic sciences excerpt where they relate to the patient at hand, and in most cases you may want to look up the references from the books.
Those aspects that are remote to daily practice are easily forgotten, for example which clinician remembers the anatomy of hemi-azygous vein? That's where the exparfs come in. I am a practicing doctor but we need solid foundation for the upcoming ones please!
It is a misplaced priority, what should be done is a review of the medical curriculum and not this kind of ill-informed move. All over the world, the training involves multi-disciplines; in the U.S you first get a BSc before proceeding to do MD! Is it MD holders that teach BSc Biology? How is the implementation of that move going to be possible with regards to manpower, lab facilities, etc.?

I understood what you are saying. But in this case, the questions related to issues of law. The answers are the same the world over. My friend said he answered them correctly but the visa officer was asking irrelevant questions about why he chose the school he chose(completely unrelated to the grant of a student visa). The fact is that there is a standing order to deny genuine Nigerians American visas due to the misdeeds of other Nigerians who are abusing their visas.

The US should come out straight to issue a statement that there is a reduction in the number of visas to be issued to Nigerians henceforth. That is better than taking visa fees from Nigerians and still deny them the visas. It is a very simple matter oo. It is their country and they reserve the right to deny foreigners access to it. But they should honest about your consular objectives and policies regarding Nigeria!

FamilyRe: Naturally Determining The Sex Of Your Babies - By Francis Ewherido by AlphaT1(m): 11:46am On Jul 15, 2018
Feranchek:
Naturally determining the sex of your babies – Francis Ewherido

Let me commence with a solemn declaration. I believe, without any doubt, that all humankind is created equal and in the image and likeness of God. No person is superior to the other by virtue of family background, race, ethnicity or gender.

So today’s article has nothing to do with the superiority of the male child over the female child. There is no such thing, or maybe it exists in the imagination of some people due to prehistoric and archaic prejudices. We need both sexes to perpetuate humanity, so both are equally important.

Put these male chauvinists making noise about the supremacy of the male child in an island without women for one year and they will run mad. I am only writing today’s article because God has given us the freedom of choice and if anybody has challenges exercising that freedom positively and you are in a position to help, please do just that.

Last week’s article, “Nigeria’s exponential Population” did generate much reaction on my social media pages. But one of the reasons given by a respondent for the exploding population did catch my attention. He said some couples give birth to more children than they originally planned or can cater for because they are looking for the “almighty” male child. This does not make sense to me, but a man has the right to make legal choices that make him happy. I have written considerably on this subject and will not duel on it wholesome today, but I will concentrate on naturally determining the sex of your baby.

Naturally preselecting the sex of your baby is no rocket science; it is the simple biology we all learnt in secondary school. Maybe, we just take it a little further. So it is painful to see couples unfulfilled, sad or breed like rabbits because they are looking for either a son or daughter, son most of the time. Today, I am giving an abridged version of steps (previously addressed in my column) that you need to take to naturally preselect the sex of your baby with stunning accuracy.

First, we must remember or know that the male sperms carry either X or Y chromosomes, while the female eggs carry only the X chromosomes. The egg carrying the X chromosome and the sperm carrying Y chromosome produce a male child, while the egg carrying the X chromosome and the sperm carrying X chromosome produce a female child. So a man determines the sex of a baby. You can now see that many husbands are just blaming their wives for results that they are wholly responsible for.

The sperm carrying the Y chromosome swims faster, but has a shorter lifespan while the sperm carrying the X chromosome is slower, but has a longer lifespan. If you want a male child, intercourse should take place just before or during ovulation. The faster sperms carrying the Y chromosome would get to the egg and fertilise it before the sperms with X chromosome make their slow and steady journey there. And only one sperm can fertilise an egg. If, however, intercourse takes three days (sometimes two days) or more before ovulation, the result will likely be a girl. This is because all the faster sperms carrying the Y chromosomes with short lifespan would have died leaving the egg for the slower sperms carrying the X chromosomes with longer lifespan to fertilise.

The critical elements here are ovulation, which occurs when an egg or ovum is released from the ovary and usually lasts for about 12 to 24 hours, and timing of intercourse. Ovulation normally occurs between the 12th to 14th day of a woman’s 28-day cycle, but like most human phenomena, there are no absolute certainties and it varies from one woman to another. Even within the same woman, there are variations. Many women find this unpredictability challenging. Such women can engage in charting, that is daily recording of changes in the mucus discharge from the vagina that is related to ovulation, to enhance predictability.

Please note that how long the sperm lives in the body of your wife after intercourse is determined by a number of factors. One, the vaginal environment is very important. If it is alkaline, the sperm carrying the Y chromosome can survive up to three day, while the sperm carrying the X chromosome can survive for five or six days. But if the vaginal environment is acidic, it is less habitable for the X and Y sperms and they die much earlier. That is why knowing the day of ovulation is very essential to pre-selection of the sex of your baby, because if you do, the vaginal environment, friendly or hostile, becomes inconsequential.

The other important factor is the health of the husband’s sperms. Studies have shown that the sperms of men decline both in quality and quantity from age 40. It is earlier for smokers. Lifestyle and the type of food you eat also influence the quantity and quality of sperms and ability to impregnate your wife. In fact, the egg does not accept every sperm that comes its way. It is very selective and attracted more to healthy sperms. This can be a challenge for men with weak sperms or low sperm count when they want to impregnate their wives, according to research findings.

You also need some discipline and cooperation between spouses if you want to naturally pre-select the sex of your babies. For a start, pre-selection is easier when the woman is practising natural family planning as against the use of artificial contraceptives, because artificial contraceptives disrupt the cycle of women, stopping ovulation or making ovulation more unpredictable, and you do need some level of predictability in the ovulation cycle to naturally preselect the sex of your babies

In addition, the couple needs to stay off intercourse for at least five days before ovulation. This is to ensure that residue semen in the woman’s body does not interfere with her vaginal discharge and create confusion. There are a number of natural ways women know they are ovulating: the thick slimy vaginal discharge which is like phlegm (catarrh, as some refer to it), some women feel a sharp pain on the side or lower abdomen when the egg is released, heightened sense of smell, breast soreness or tenderness, increased sexual urge and change in body temperature..
Just in case you are wondering why I write categorically on the efficacy of this method, I used it to preselect the sex of all my children, boys and girls accurately, so I know it is effective

https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/07/naturally-determining-the-sex-of-your-babies/
This is just probability: it may or may not happen. It is not a scientific formula. It works for some people and fails in others.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: My Interview Experience-you Might Learn A Thing Or Two. by AlphaT1(m): 10:39pm On Jul 13, 2018
charles009:
Last Month, my friend tipped me off that a new company is sourcing for experienced hands in Marketing and Sales. Though the conditions were stiff, I decided to keep my options open so I applied.(i don't really need the job, i love honing my skills to be able to compete, preparation!!)

Saturday was the interview day, held at a hotel in highbrow area of Victoria Island, I arrived the venue to behold thoroughly drilled men and ladies in suits, in their own rights, cleanly shaved. about 10 of us. I was my usual self, a milk coloured chinos, a white shirt and a blue suit to match my rather casual looks, and of-course I keep cleanly shaved beards.

After a few mins a mixed breed lady walked in and said we were gonna write a little assessment to gauge competence, this announcement was met with silent murmurs from us. As I flipped through the questions, I noticed they were purely credit questions. (bankers would understand) At that point I understood, the essence of all the suits and clean shave lol. immediately I gestured towards the door, the lady questioned why, i reminded her my experiences are in FMCG not Credit institution. so definitely i should be in a wrong place. She persuaded me to stay that it was the MD who personally screened the list before approving the invite. Anyways I stayed and still vehemently but politely refused to answer those questions.
After the sessions we were shortlisted for an interviews immediately, my name was the last name on the list. I was very angry and felt i needed to leave, but when i saw the sumptuous meals they were gonna treat us to, I simply decided to stay. while we discussed we collectively agreed to give them salary in the region of 400k and above( I currently earn above 400k though, read on you will see reason why i made this remark) Then there was a twist, people who came Outside lagos were given 30k while within lagos was 5k. a whole lot of us demanded for the list and suddenly everybody came outside lagos lol.

Finally it was my turn, i walked in to a panel of over 8 people, i was bold enough, though nervous initially, They all laughed, finally the man who refused to write our quiz. tell us why, i reminded them that i better not answer and look stupid before them, I do not have competence in that area i reminded them. they totally inundated me with questions, I was ripping the questions to shreds you know that kind thing. At some point, I started showing them figures. it was time for the MD to speak, gracefully he said, thank you young man, you are a very strong candidate nonetheless. you really thought us strategy. The secretary now gave me a white envelope and said its 30k for your fare back, i immediately reminded her, I came from ikeja. she smiled, you can keep the money. you will hear from us was the last word i heard from the MD

Tuesday, 8pm local time, my phone rang, and it goes my name is ****** the HR of ******. i will like to make you an offer, please revert if you accept or reject. Guys the offer made was crazy, i repeat outright crazy. still thinking about it though, cos my new place of work is just so much mad fun. will let you guys know if i accept or decline the offer.

Afterthoughts: I am still thinking why I was the preferred candidate?
would love to know your thoughts as I will also include mine in the comment section.
Sometimes it's just divine favour bro....Some yrs ago I went for an interview in Lagos for a Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) position with a multinational company, I was just a fresh graduate with no experience whatsoever in M&E. I saw the vacancy online and just applied even though a minimum of two years previous experience was required. I was surprised to receive an sms inviting me for the interview (to hold 5 days later). I met 24 other candidates at d interview, we wrote an aptitude test and 8 of us were asked to wait behind. They interviewed us and said they would get back to us. Three days later they called me to come to Lagos for a one week training and documentation, I did go and I tell you, the offer was good but at dat point only one thing was my interest; a graduate program! I finished d training and was posted to Enugu (to oversee the South-eastern states). I left Lagos for Enugu but never arrived Enugu (I went back to my papa house). They kept calling me n persuading me to come n resume, they were even ready to increase my benefits, the company's foreign officials scheduled a meeting with me on skype just to know the reasons why I wouldn't work with them n to convince me to change my mind, they were ready to sponsor my graduate program with d condition dat I would return and work for them.
I kept wondering, why couldn't they just call any of the other candidates (who even had work experience) to come and resume immediately....but I realized dat perhaps it's just divine favour!

PMB can only inform the public about such but he cannot stop them. Only the people can stop them. Everyone should join hands with trakka or any other NGO in fighting corruption by whatever means.
Bros it is sad to say but d truth is that with dis current structure, no one can fight corruption in Nigeria.

PoliticsRe: JMPP: We Will Fence Nigeria, Change Name Of Nigeria To Pisonia & Naira To Pison by AlphaT1(m): 11:22am On Jun 15, 2018
Mynews09:
Justice Must Prevail Party (JMPP) on Thursday said if elected into power in 2019, it would construct perimeter fence around Nigeria and change the name of the country and the currency.

Acting National Chairman of the Party, Dr Olusegun Ijagbemi, stated this at a news conference in Abuja.

He said that the need to change the name of the country and its currency was divinely revealed to the leadership of the party, adding that the changes were important if Nigeria must make progress.

According to Ijagbemi, “the 14th pillar of our party is to change the name of Nigeria to Pisonia and its currency from Naira to Pison.

“It is a miracle that the leadership of this party got a wind of how the entire African nation is being impoverished with their currency.”

“There are people outside Nigeria printing our currency and they have agents among us, including our political leaders.

“They are printing money and they have agents in CBN and throughout Africa. We brought this information to Nigeria that they are destroying our economy,’’ he said.

The chairman added that about six months ago, the CBN revealed to the National Assembly that more than 20 per cent of Nigeria’s currency was fake.

Ijagbemi said that promoting citizens’ welfare and security of lives and property would be one of the major concerns of the party, if elected.

He said that the party would use technology to monitor the country’s borders and that security forces would be highly motivated.

“This party is going to fence Nigeria and create only regulated route for people to come in and go out of the country.

“You can no longer move boys or girls across the border with trailer and then say you have captured or recovered them.

“There will be no need for people sleeping with their hearts panting. You cannot just come into the country, invade it and steal our oil.’’

Ijagbemi stated that JMPP government would strengthen the immigration laws, and that border control would be exercised maximally.

He said that citizenship laws would also be reviewed to meet the exigencies of current happenings in the world.

Ijagbemi decried the level of unemployment in the country, saying it was unacceptable, “considering the fact that the nation was reputed as one of the richest in the world in human and natural resources’’.

To address the challenge, he said that JMPP would equip Technical Colleges and Polytechnics to provide high-level manpower to form the backbone of technological and industrial development.

“The party will also encourage the formation of new industries in line with modern technological trends using the products of the revamped technical schools and polytechnics.

“Skills development centres will be established in all local government councils of the country,” he stated,

According to trending reports, the Fulani indigenes are unhappy with the way they are being treated in Benue and Nassarawa states. In a trending video footage posted online, one of the Fulani herdsmen can be heard lamenting their present situation as he accused the police of being complicit in their ordeal because they are the minority tribe in the mentioned areas.

"They now have license to kill us, kill our cows, arrest us and collect not less than N1million for bail. Over 200 young Fulani under detention & some are starving to death," - the Fulani youth cried out.

This is coming days after the Berom of Plateau State allegedly killed and matched many cows belonging to herdsmen.

Which part of Benue are Fulanis minority in? Tiv, Idoma, Igede, and Etulo are the only tribes that make up Benue State. So I wonder which part of Benue these terrorists are claiming to be minority from.
Nairaland General15 Things You Probably Didn’t Know You Can Do With Your Whatsapp by AlphaT1(op): 6:15pm On Jun 07, 2018
Did you know you could pin your important chats on the top in WhatsApp? Alternatively, that you can read WhatsApp message without informing the sender?

Like these, there are several other nifty features/tricks/tips that can change the way you use the world’s most popular instant messaging app, according to www.gadgetsnow.com, here is a list of the tricks.

1.Read WhatsApp message without informing the sender

To do this, scroll down to the notification plan and enable the flight mode on the smartphone. Once done, just open the WhatsApp chat and read the message.

After reading the message, make sure that you close the app from the multi window so that it does not run in the background and synchronise you when online.

After the complete process, remove the phone from flight mode.

2.Share your live location

After rolling our live location sharing on Messenger, Facebook rolled out the feature on WhatsApp too. Once you share your live location with someone, he or she would be able to track wherever you go for the period you select. The three periods that can be selected are 15 minutes, one hour and eight hours.

To share your live location, open WhatsApp, tap on the ‘Attachment’ icon on the typing space bar and select ‘Location.’ Once you do this, you’ll get two options – ‘Share live location,’ and ‘Send your current location.’ Tap on the former option and select the period.

3.‘Unsend’ messages

Did you just send a wrong message to the wrong person on WhatsApp? You needn’t panic. There is still a way to delete it. Just select the message and press ‘Delete’ on the top bar which has other options like reply, mark star, copy, forward and information. Once you press ‘Delete,’ you’ll get two options – ‘Delete for me’ and ‘Delete for everyone’. Select the second one so that the recipient cannot read the message that you mistakenly sent them. However, you only get seven minutes to delete the message after you have sent it.

4.Pin your chats

There are times when you want your most important chats on the top of your conversation list. Scrolling down through scores of messages to find that chat can be tedious. Not anymore. In a recent update, WhatsApp added this function. To pin a contact to the top of the list, you have to long press on the chat from that person and then press the ‘pin icon’ that appears right next to delete, mute and archive icons on the top of the page. As of now, only three contacts can be pinned to place them on top of the conversation list.

5.Create GIFs

You can even create GIFS within WhatsApp and send it to your friends using videos that are saved on your smartphone.

Open the WhatsApp chat of the contact whom you want to send the GIF to. Click on the attach icon > Select Gallery > Go to videos. Select the video you wish to create in a GIF from. As soon as you do this, it will open up in the video editing section of WhatsApp. Here, you have to adjust the length of the video to six seconds or less, as WhatsApp does not support longer GIFS. Once the video length is less than six seconds, the option of converting it to a GIF will appear as a slider on top right. Now all you need to do is take the slider towards GIF, and you’re set.

6.Editing images
What you can do here is doodle on pictures, and add text and emoticons on them before sending. Select attach > Go to gallery > Select the image you wish to share. Once you do this, the image will open in WhatsApp’s photo editor. On top right, you’ll see options of adding text, emoticons and doodle. You can resize and change colours of all three once you add them to your image.

7.Format text

You can bold text on WhatsApp by starting it and following it with an asterisk ‘*’. Similarly, for italics, make sure the text is preceded and followed by an underscore sign ‘_’. You can also make your text appear struck off with Strikethrough. For that precede and follow it with tilde ‘~’.

8.Chat in different languages

English is not the only language in which you can communicate on WhatsApp. If you ever want to type in a different language, open WhatsApp > Go to Settings > Select Chats > Click on App Language. You can then pick the language you wish to type in.

9.Add conversation shortcuts

Rather than opening WhatsApp and going to the chat of your favourite friend each time you want to talk to them, you can add a conversation shortcut on your home screen. Just long press on the conversation, click on three dot on top of the page and click ‘Add chat shortcut’.

10.Customise notifications

WhatsApp can send you customised notifications contacts. Open the contact you wish to customise notifications for, click on the top bar, and select ‘Custom Notifications’.

11.Suicide hotline numbers

WhatsApp actually has suicide hotline numbers. Just go to Settings > Help > FAQ > Security and Privacy. The second last option in the list that will drop down is ‘Global Suicide Hotline Resources.’

12.Find out when your message has been read

If you want to know if someone has not read your message or they are simply ignoring you, just long press on the message you have sent and then select information icon ‘i’ on the top bar. You will get to know if your message has been read or not. However, you can only know the exact time your message has been read if the person does not turn read receipts and last seen off.

13.Turn off read receipts

Chances are you already know about this one. You can turn off read receipts on WhatsApp by going to Settings > Selecting Account > Clicking on Privacy and then deselecting Read receipts.

14.Turn off last seen

Do you feel that people getting to know when you last opened your WhatsApp is intrusive? You will be happy to know that WhatsApp lets you change that. Just go to Settings > Select Account > Click on Privacy > Choose Last Seen and then select the most suitable option.

15.Switch off media auto-download

Almost on a daily basis, you perhaps receive a multitude of photos and videos on WhatsApp — half of them are actually not needed. You can manage what is downloaded out of all those “Good Morning, have a nice day” type of pictures and videos that you get on a regular basis.

Open WhatsApp, make sure you are seeing the main window – where all your chats are displayed. Tap the three vertical dots on the top right > Settings.

Now tap Chat settings > Media auto-download. You will see three options: When using cellular data, When connected on Wi-Fi and When roaming. Tap each one and disable auto-downloads by unchecking all three options – Images, Audio and Video.

MrBigiman:
In the rig u work, I guess the Doctor and the Nurses are paid the same. Johesu crossed the line. During their presidents interview on Channels TV, he mentioned NMA/Doctors over 50times, he lied that house officers earn over 300k, and further went to publish a falsified Doctors salary scale all over Facebook. And u expect Doctors to remain silent.

When doctors go on strike they don't mention anyone, but the reference point for every Johesu strike is Doctors and their favourite phrase is "as was done for Doctors
That's why i said these attacks on each other (NMA vs JOHESU ) is not the solution, you people have left the real monster staring at you-(the corrupt politicians) and are fighting over frivolities. Where I work the pay is based on what you do and not by profession or yrs of study. That is the standard in d U.S. Different pay checks for different categories of employees; doctors, nurses, engineers etc with some nurses earning more than some doctors and vice versa based on their job schedule/description. That is not to say JOHESU is right or wrong or NMA is right or wrong, you guys need to be more creative and try and come to a compromise and in unison hold the politicians accountable.
HealthRe: What Is Really The Problem With JOHESU by AlphaT1(m): 8:21pm On Jun 02, 2018
MrBigiman:
Why has a Nurse or a lab Scientist or a Pharmacist with masters in management or administration not been the CEO of John Hopkins, May Clinic or Cleveland Clinic in the Last 50yrs?, why is it still headed by physicians?, why have they not caused unrest there or a Johesu faction there to cause a change. Doctors remain drivers of the industry and nothing will change it.
I never said anything about JOHESU heading hospitals, you are pouring out your bitterness on a wrong person...I talked about the leadership structure of advance hospitals and the process of appointing its leaders...Have you been to JHH or Cleveland Clinic? Even a cleaner there is not as frustrated as a doctor or JOHESU in Nigeria..no JHH doctor or JOHESU will insult their colleague like market women....where are the doctors in Nigeria driving the industry to? To the mud abi? With the worst health indices in the world. The situation here is hopeless and will continue to be so.... instead of NMA and JOHESU to unite and hold the politicians accountable, you are there fighting over trivial issues and braging over driving the industry, which industry? Well, I would love to see change in those death traps called hospitals for the sake of the poor masses...They are death traps coz NMA and JOHESU have contributed in helping politicians to make them so.
Bros if you cross over to this side you will never ever compare those hospitals you are mentioning with Nigeria's, it's like comparing jet age tech with stone age. It is that bad, I mean very very bad..it is quite sad but that's the truth...
I work in a multidisciplinary firm too (HSE-marine) but we don't fight ourselves/colleagues dirty like that, it is unprofessional/unethical..why are you guys (NMA and JOHESU) quick to call people derogatory names? Myopic, rabid dog, slowpoke ...is it coz of the frustration at the country's situation?

I have both JOHESU and NMA member as siblings but fortunately they too have crossed over so they can't fight again.
HealthRe: What Is Really The Problem With JOHESU by AlphaT1(m): 1:29pm On Jun 02, 2018
MrBigiman:
Read write up. John Hopkins have been headed by Medics for the Past 50years. To say our CMDs have no management training is another gross act of myopic ignorance
Bros cool down, I know much about JHH and I just gave you the structure of their leadership, that structure is not found here in Nigeria. I don't have any issue with medics heading hospitals or any organization for that matter but it should be those with experience and qualification. Now do you want us to delve into the qualifications and experience of those medics heading JHH for the past 50yrs and compare with ours in Naija? You calling me myopic is just a proof of what I said earlier; the limited scope of knowledge, understanding and reasoning of a typical Nigerian-the reason being Nigerians don't like reading.
Do you want us to go into the qualifications and leadership experience of our CMDs (in top FG teaching hospitals) one after the other and compare with the CEOs of those advance hospitals you mentioned earlier? At least my uncle was a CMD and he agreed with me that at best they go for 2-5 days management training sessions that they can hardly even remember the topics or titles not to talk of applying it. They only use those 2-5 days or even two weeks trainings for financial benefits, majority of them are not even interested in what the resource persons are teaching.
Before you call me myopic again, CMDs in Naija are political appointments, CEOs of hospitals over here in USA are not.....Are political appointments in Nigeria most of the times, merit based?
Sometimes you would not understand somethings until you travel outside that lawless country.

MrBigiman:
65years for what, when NMA haven't even asked for 65yrs. Johesu is actually a crazy group, always putting their eyes in other people's progress. The way they ask for these things show their jealousy. In their leaders words "we want our retirement age to be increased to 65yrs as was done for University workers", are u a University worker?, also " We want our Conhess scale adjusted as was done for Doctors", are u also a Medical Doctor. Which hospital in any advanced Country is runned by a Pharmacist, Lab Technician or Nurse, when a Doctor is there. We only have Doctor led hospitals vs hospital administrator led hospital, of which the administrator is not even a health worker, so why do they want to distort the narrative. Finally the top 5 hospital in the world has Doctors as CEO, these include John Hopkins, Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic etc. So why don't we emulate the best?
The Nigerian health sector is in shambles, one of the worst in the world. There is no unity between NMA and JOHESU. An average Nigerian does not read and thus has limited scope of knowledge, understanding and reasoning. A medical doctor for instance has just MBBS and fellowship and then feels he is a demigod, all-knowing super-human, with no any other qualification at all; no MBA, MPA , MHM, etc and yet assumes he can manage people and d hospital effectively. He does not even have a diploma or certificate course in management, to him he is too big and that these courses are useless, he has never read a single book on management or leadership to improve himself. A consultant will oppress his juniors, residents will look down on M.Os, Drs will look down on JOHESU, Senior JOHESU members will maltreat junior ones etc etc. And with this typical Nigerian mentality, this consultant (with only MBBS and Fellowship certificates) finds himself in a leadership position (CMD, MD etc) and you are expecting him to perform lolz. Now the structure of the Nigerian health sector is such that you have these MBBS+Fellows or MBBS-only individuals from minsiter of health to CMDs, MDs, CMACs, governing boards etc leading the health sector and you expect any improvement lolz. Five years ago I challenged one of my friends who is an orthopaedic surgeon to read atleast two books per year and to also get some other qualifications, at least one (like an MBA, MPH, a PGD, or MSc etc), he was complaining about time, I asked him if he was busier than Ben Carson, a successful neurosurgeon and an author, he was challenged and he created time for it. Today his MBA has given him the position of country head in an int'l NGO, he is much more fulfilled and happier now.
The CEO of Johns Hopkins Hospital (JHH) that you mentioned has BSc, M.D., fellowship, and a post-doc and has held several positions for many years before being appointed as CEO, so you can't compare him to what's obtainable here in Naija. Even his vice is a nurse with masters. The president of JHH also has an MBA.
