James4bright: Obviously I know a good number of Nigerians are in Russia already. But one thing I've realized is that most Nigerians don't add Russia to their country of preference compared to UK, Canada and Germany.
Some would even prefer to start up with smaller countries like Estonia. I hope you all know Russia is the cheapest European country you could move to.
When I'm on Instagram and I view pages of Africans in Russia, Nigerians are always the least.
Why isn't anyone talking about Russia, is it because of their low cost of living or currency. Because 1 Russian ruble is 5 naira.
It would cost you just 2.5 million to move to Russia and study compared to a good number of European countries. And don't come here telling me about racism bullshit, it's actually safe in Russia lately, watch some YouTube videos and see for yourself.
Housing there is actually very cheap too, I know a girl who pays just a 100 dollars per year for her apartment.
Russia is one country that has the biggest landmass on Earth. So many European countries are small, buying land properties would be expensive and won't be easy neither. Nigeria is 3 times bigger than UK.
It's annoying when I see Nigerians on Nairaland who have just 2million naira, when people tell them their money is too small. You only need 4000 US dollars in your account as proof of funds to move to Russia.
I'm not an agent so don't think I need your money, I got all my information through research on Russian study platforms. Go on Instagram and check out Africans in Russia.
I would stop here, so I don't talk down on other European countries before the mods come for me.
Russian imperialism, covert and overt racism towards even biracial Russians by youth gangs, and language barriers.
James4bright: South Africa is way more peaceful than Brazil. Brazil has the worst kind of gun violence, gangs everywhere waiting to rip someone's throat off.
And the poverty is extreme in Brazil too. I'm not even sure the OP is even in Brazil, he's just a blogger or travel agent. He should post a picture of himself in brazil, all his pictures are internet pictures.
Don't allow anyone deceive you oh. Brazil is worst.
LMAO... You're wicked dude.
Okay @Walkbrazil4k, I know full well you're based in Brazil but just to clear any doubts and make you have the last laugh here, just write @Walkbrazil4k on a piece of paper and take the picture of the paper and/or a selfie and upload the pic here on NL.
Farm produce and livestock are huge in the North. Most towns have their market days where people come from Neighboring villages to trade their farm products and livestock. Goats, Cattle, Ram even Guinea fowl, Ducks and Chicken are not left behind.
The market day is Tuesday in Kankara a town in Katsina that has been battling insecurity since Book Haram. The relatively peaceful and quiet town all of a sudden became busy with crowds from all over the place so much so I wondered where all this people were a day or two days ago when everywhere was quiet.
In almost lost my way around because everywhere suddenly changed.
I was basically there to see the goat market and buy some because there's a huge demand for goats in my area. Most restaurant kill at least one everyday. The bars also prepare goat meat Asun at night so I figured I could easily sell 20 goats within a week if my price was competitive enough hence my journey to the North.
Below is a picture of the Goat market in the morning just before it became so crowded.
Insightful thread.
But with the level of insecurity in some of the North-West states of Nigeria, you are still travelling by road and at night because of some goats?
You don't want to be kidnapped, get brutally beaten, gang-raped and end up paying millions or get killed by those dweeps and bandits from mainly Niger Republic and Mali hiding in Falgore forest and other NE forests. Most of those aggressive and violent guys in Lagos are NOT Nigerian Hausas but from Mali and Niger Republic. These same guys who also ride commercial bikes in Lagos don't speak fluent Hausa but a lot of folks in Lagos or the South in general mistakenly call them Hausa people!
It's good to always take calculated risks but do that by travelling via rail or air.
Also try to get a competent local dealer of the livestock in Katsina who can speak Hausa and English and navigate his way through any local blackspots. He can then send the livestock to you in Lasgidi and get paid after factoring the transport cost.
According to Nasir El-Rufai's comments last week in the FCT, the bandits' hideouts are well-known based on aerial surveillance using sophisticated gadgets that were also used to secretly listen to the conversations of the bandits... And it would require the Nigerian Air Force jets to bomb all the bandit dens at the same time (to prevent any escape).
Glad you came back to your base by road without any negative incident on the way.
Cousin9999: The White House, along with France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom and Canada, announced Saturday evening that they would expel certain Russian banks from SWIFT, the high-security network that connects thousands of financial institutions around the world, pledging to “collectively ensure that this war is a strategic failure for (Russian President Vladimir) Putin.”
“This will ensure that these banks are disconnected from the international financial system and harm their ability to operate globally,” they wrote in a joint statement released by the White House, also pledging “restrictive measures that will prevent the Russian Central Bank from deploying its international reserves in ways that undermine the impact of our sanctions,” and restricting the sale of “golden passports” that allow Russian oligarchs to avoid the brunt of sanctions already levied.
US and European officials have also discussed targeting the Russian Central Bank with sanctions, according to two people familiar with the talks, a step without precedent for an economy of Russia’s size.
No final decisions have been made, the people said, and the structure of the sanctions under discussion remains unclear.
But the moves made for a dramatic escalation of the West’s attempts to isolate and punish Putin, and appeared to come together quickly over the past hours and days. At a press conference Thursday, Biden was pressed on why he had avoided removing Russia from SWIFT or sanctioning Putin personally. Less than 48 hours later, he’d done both.
I'm here to enlighten y'all and myself. I'm using western states as examples
Lagos, Ondo and Oyo states all have towns/cities to which they derived their names from.
Kindly note that Ikorodu, Ikeja, Agege, Mushin, Epe etc where all under western region , (Ogun state to be precise) b4 they were merged with Lagos city. Therefore naming the whole state Lagos state.
Right off the bat...
A "Megacity" is just a term that is used to describe a metropolis or city where a great number of people running into millions live. It is in this context that the term Lagos megacity is used starting from Lagos Island, Ikoyi Island, Iruland (the original Yoruba name for Victoria Island), Surulere, etc.
However, these places or towns that I mentioned above are DISTINCT towns or city (Lagos Island is a city) with different Obas or Yoruba traditional rulers and different LGA administrations such as Iru-Victoria Island LGA.
Lagos Island (Eko) was the former administrative capital of Nigeria from 1914 to 1991 NOT Lagos State which only came into existence 55 years ago on May 27, 1967.
Over 90% of the total land size of Lagos State was carved out from the Old Western Region area now known as Ogun State. This is the reason why Aworiland and Ijebuland extend from Ogun State right into Lagos State.
1] Ibeju-Lekki, Epe, and Ikorodu are the 3 Ijebu Local Governments Areas in Lagos State.
2] Badagry LGA is inhabited indigenously by Aworis and Ogus.
3] The Awori-Yorubas are the owners or indigenes of the remaining 17 LGAs and areas in Lagos State such as Ikeja, Ilupeju, Oshodi-Isolo, Mushin, Ojo, Amuwo Odofin, Agege, Orile Iganmu (Orile Iganmu and Mushin were the boundaries between the Western Region [which was governed by Chief Obafemi Awolowo, GCFR, SAN and later by Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola], and the Lagos capital territory).
In the historical archives, Lord Fred Lugard actually wanted Kaduna to be the new administrative capital in 1914, because he said Lagos Island was already owned and inhabited by the Yoruba people, and that the Lagos land size was small, and the weather was enervating... but the British Home Government rejected Lugard's plan because Lagos Island is very close to sea or international sea routes!
The entire Lagos State was one of the 12 new states created by General Yakubu Gowon for the indigenes of all the states after due consultations with the traditional rulers and politicians from 1966 to 1967 such as Ken Saro-Wiwa, Chief Harold Dappa-Biriye an indigene of Bonny Island [the "father of Ijaw nationalism and ex-student of King's College, Lagos Island]," and more.
Only Ojukwu rejected the new 12 states creation and 2 days later he declared secession of the 3 newly created states within the entire defunct Eastern Region.
Harold Dappa-Biriye, Rivers State leaders of thought and indeed most non-Ibo ethnic groups of today's Akwa Ibom/Cross River States rejected Col. Ojukwu's actions because of the COR Movement which sought for independent governance from the alleged Ibo domination in the Old Eastern Region.
Davidwilliam101: Coronavirus, lady cries for help as the lockdown continues. In the video, she was narrating on how the government did not provide for food and other basic amenities to relieve her for the lockdown.
The Nigerian lady who spoke in Yoruba and repeatedly said "she is starving", also went on to reveal what she will do when she gets the "help" she wants.
She further expresses the need to satisfy her sexual urge as she can't cope with the lockdown anymore.
I just watched the video for the first time and she was quite hilarious while switching back-and-forth between English and Yoruba... She sounds educated and well-spoken though, so I think she did the video on her mobile phone while goofing around and never intended it for the public. Somehow it leaked or something!
This is similar to how some women and guys goof around by having their private nude pictures and nude videos on their mobile phones. If the phones get stolen or hacked, it's gonna be game over and the nudes would get leaked to the public.
Akwamkpuruamu: For those confused about the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, and by extension NATO. — Russia represents a polygamous husband with many wives like Ukraine, Moldova, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belorussia, and the other Ex-Soviet Republics. — In 1991, Ukraine being the most beautiful wife, demanded a divorce from her draconian husband. — Russia grudgingly allowed her, but due to his toxicity and ego, he would rather see her remain single, subservient, and dependent. — As a dynamic lady, Ukraine rapidly developed herself into one of the most beautiful women after the divorce. — To the chagrin of Russia, Ukraine, his ex-wife, becomes a center of attraction wanted by other men, including his foe, NATO. —Ukraine’s pulchritude and natural endowment earn her recognition from NATO—a counterpart to Russia. —The relationship between NATO and Ukraine started growing at an alarming pace, unsettling the nerves of the ex-husband, Russia. — As expected of a toxic narcissist, Russia went berserk. He insisted that a relationship between Ukraine and NATO will breed conspiratorial connivance, which poses a more significant threat to the masculinity and ego of Russia. — NATO, a polygamist like Russia, is a liberal. His wives include the U.K., U.S., Greece, Germany, Spain, and many more. — To NATO, the addition of Ukraine to his fleet of wives makes him more powerful and gives him an upper hand ahead of Russia. — To Russia, NATO, and Ukraine’s marriage poses a grandiose threat to his territory. Therefore, he is committed to ensuring the relationship never happens. — In his quest to truncate this relationship, Russia wants to reconstitute his past relationship; he is a nationalist, a fascist in the mode of Adolf Hitler. — As a result of this, he abruptly barged into his unsuspecting ex-wife’s house a few days ago. — The unwanted guest is currently holding her hostage, surrounding her house with hundreds of _dongaris_. — NATO, at the moment, is scrambling for how best to rescue his new wife from her abusive ex. — Russia had warned that anyone who interferes as he gobbles Ukraine would suffer consequences that they did not dream possible; that is, he has nuclear weapons to eviscerate even those who know nothing about his strained relationship with his ex. —Right now, Ukraine is stuck between an abusive ex-husband and a new lover who has promised her the most exquisite things in the world. — The world is perturbed as they watch this dispute in awe and fear. — The rescue mission, if haphazardly planned, may likely boomerang into an all-out war between the two suitors and their friends. — NATO, a businessman (Capitalist) and the controller of the G7, has threatened to impose severe sanctions against Russia if he fails to withdraw his _Dongaris_ from Ukraine's premises. — The G7 are the big guys around. They include the U.S., U.K., Canada, EU, Italy, Japan, France, and Germany. An affiliation with these guys is lucrative, capable of catapulting any country to booming affluence. — The essence of these sanctions is that these big guys will ghost Russia and cut every tie with him in an attempt to humble him “economically.”
*How is Africa connected to this conflict?* — Africa should be worried about one thing, her economy. — Economically, Africa and the rest of the world will be significantly affected should a war break out in Europe. — The world is yet to recover fully from the aftermath of COVID-19. — Asides from that, I see no reason why any African country/leader should take sides, at least, for now. — Russia is the only European country that stood with Africa during the colonial period. Russia fought with Angola against the South African apartheid regime and defended Lumumba. — Africa had better be spectators rather than a participant in this conflict. — It is not on record that Russia had once colonized or invaded the African continent like Ukraine's new husband once did. — There is an ongoing liberation in Mali. Russia is currently liberating Mali from French Imperialism. — The embittered ex and the new husband are inconsolable at the moment. — Although Olori Ebi (the United Nations) has attempted to mediate, Russia is deviant to his appeasement because the U.S. is the one feeding Olori Ebi the most. Understandably, he may not favor Russia.

LoudlyMouthed: The price of bitcoin fell below $35,000 early Thursday after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a military operation in the Donbas region of Ukraine.
Bitcoin was trading at $34,969 as of 1:22 a.m. ET, according to CoinMarketCap. That's a decline of more than 8% compared to a day earlier. The world's most valuable cryptocurrency fell below $40,000 over the weekend, and has continued to slide as the Ukraine crisis intensifies. The currency has lost almost half its value since its November high of $68,990 due to geopolitical tensions, the prospect of interest rate hikes by the US Federal Reserve and curbs by some major economies on digital assets. Other cryptocurrencies also dropped hard early Thursday. Ethereum tumbled more than 12%, according to CoinMarketCap, while dogecoin was down more than 14%.
Is Tinubu the only Yoruba son contesting for the office of the president ?
Why is every Yoruba against only Tinubu and non is fighting Osibanjo ?
What did Tinubu do when the Fulani herdsmen invaded ibarapa and killed people, whose side did Tinubu support?
Tinubu do not have the interest of the yorubas at heart so we won't support him
Hey... I first noticed you in 2021 and this is the first time ever that I'll be communicating with you.
Several times here on NL, you have shamefully LIED that you are Yoruba and NOT Ibo, and gone about opening inciting NL threads making inciting and defamatory comments about a Presidential aspirant of a main political party, and Yoruba people. You even LIED that you are a Lagos prince which is very unwise of you on a public forum. I've been a veteran user of NL since March 2005 via an older NL user name and you are one of the most notorious posters ever here on NL for blatantly trolling and violating NL rules 2,3,7,8,9.
What you are doing by falsely misrepresenting your identity here amounts to mind-control and psychic manipulation!
One of the things or evidence that gave you away is that:
You've been using the wrong spelling (Osibanjo) in your NL posts including this your post for the Vice President of Nigeria Prof. Yemi OSINBAJO.
NO Yoruba person or non-Yoruba (born and raised in Lagos State or any other part of Yorubaland) who speaks fluent Yoruba, WRONGLY calls the VP of Nigeria "Osibanjo" when the REAL spelling is OSINBAJO.
The correct suffix of the name is: "Bajo NOT Banjo!"
It's always core Ibos and a few ethnicities here on NL from the South of Southern Nigeria that mistakenly use "Osibanjo" instead of OSINBAJO.
STOP telling LIES that you are Yoruba when you are actually an Ibo boy, based on your previous posts taking sides with your Ibo kinsmen on NL. You even posted that your mother is from Imo.
Enough said.
Cc: Seun, Mynd44, please do the needful to eliminate the blatant toxicity from trolls on NL who use hate speech, and create many FAKE NL accounts falsely claiming to be Yorubas, Ijaws, Hausas or other ethnic groups in Nigeria.
A "life-time" BAN of the fake NL accounts, hate speech users, and trolls from posting is needed here on NL like I've already advocated.
Hideki: I would say, the family tree is now large. The wealth has been shared from children to grand children to great grandchildren. Also money moves...previously, wealth was in banking and the Rothschild made a fortune from it. They are heavy investors in the banking and consulting sectors in Europe. However Money has left banking to IT and tech. Rothschilds are still wealthy though. Rockefeller made money from oil. Remember Standard oil in the US ....yea...but the family is now very large and wealth has been shared. Also the US govt killed Standard oil monopoly in the US. Final blow, money has left oil and is presently in IT and Tech...One of the Rockefellers is still a billionaire, I think he is/was the chairman of JP Morgan bank
Plomo: While that may be true, you should also know that all the billionaires at any time on the forbes list have their assets out in public, one most notable example is by taking your company public. Hence 99.9% of them are always affected by “stocks rising or falling”. For instance, no one knew who the Koch brothers were until a few years ago. Because they operated a private company it was not easy to estimate their wealth. Now, their wealth (which is their company) has become more public, and this has brought them into the top 10 wealthiest people worldwide according to Forbes.
There are also untold amounts of wealth held in Trusts. These Trusts are designed such that you can never know how much an individual or a family holds in Trusts as these can run into trillions for just one family.
The world’s private wealth is largely kept in the dark. And no, I’m not talking about dirty money.
samonak: Kudos, seems the Governor is serious in honouring the end of the year deadline for the completion of the rail project that has lasted for years. No thanks to the foolishness of Buhari who revoked the project during the Jakande days. Lagos is the only mega city without a fully functional inter city rail line.
This is one of the FALSE STORIES that have been circulating in the public space for years now and has been used as a political tool to attack that man. This is because people don't pay attention to historical and daily events.
It wasn't Buhari that revoked the project. It was Group Captain Gbolahan Mudashiru that revoked it because it was a Lagos State project. He said his government wanted to re-award the project to a MORE COMPETENT company.
I have an African Concord Magazine of early 1985 [just before Ibrahim Babangidas gang overthrew General Buhari] where Gbolahan Mudashiru took responsibility for cancelling the Metroline project that we were all looking forward to.
If I can scan the magazine, I will upload it so people can see that it was Gbolahan Mudashiru that cancelled the project.
But is this TALGO train below [which looks like the ancestors] going to be a high-speed train? It doesn't look like any of those sleeky high-speed trains.
The first film produced on video in Nigeria is 1988's Soso Meji, produced by Ade Ajiboye. Subsequently, Alade Aromire produced Ekun (1989) on video. ==> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_film_era
Etymology The origin of the term "Nollywood" remains unclear; Jonathan Haynes traced the earliest usage of the word to a 2002 article by Matt Steinglass in the New York Times, where it was used to describe Nigerian cinema.[2][3] Charles Igwe noted that Norimitsu Onishi also used the name in a September 2002 article he wrote for the New York Times.[4][5] The term continues to be used in the media to refer to the Nigerian film industry, with its definition later assumed to be a portmanteau of the words "Nigeria" and "Hollywood", the American major film hub.[6][7][8][9] ==> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nollywood

membranus: Me self, as a Yoruba man, I dey wonder. Yoruba dis, Yoruba dat, from Reno. Wetin dey happen. Im wan a new Yoruba Gal?
Reno is partly Itsekiri but his dad is Urhobo... You know Itsekiris are directly related to Yorubas and Edos, so it should NOT come to you as a surprise that he has an interest in Yoruba culture as well.
Reno even speaks Yoruba, Urhobo, Itsekiri, Hebrew, and he said he is learning the Ijebu dialect of Yoruba.
Your social media propelled 'grossing"nonsense is neither here nor there.
Nigerian movies and filmi ndustry were not their places in a sentence till the Igbo pioneers showed up and today latter day entrants can dare contest relevance with the trail-blazers.
We have sold our values and culture through Nollywood....Africa knows, the rest of Nigeria know it so stop arguing blindly.
This is FALSE! The Ibos did NOT START any Nollywood or the home video industry in Nigeria. The term Nollywood was invented by a Journalist of Japanese descent in a mere year 2002. But the Nigerian movie industry has been in existence since many decades back!
Professor Wole Soyinka's film or movie on celluloid called the "Kongi's Harvest" was premiered in the Cinemas in Lagos in 1969! It was that film that Mr. Tunde Kelani said inspired him to become a film producer because he was at the Cinema to watch the movie in 1969.
Even Kenneth Nnebue in a 1997 ThisDay newspaper that I have in my archives gave credit to the Yoruba homevideo and Indian movie industry for inspiring him. The first homevideos from the Yoruba movie industry were released in 1987.
Kenneth Nnebue's 1993 movie was an Ibo language homevideo but subtitled in English. Kenneth Nnebue even listed more than 20 Yoruba homevideos that he knew of before his own 1993 home video. The younger generation of Ibos have become very notorious for peddling this falsehood that Ibos started the homevideo in Nigeria when even Kenneth Nnebue who worked with Yoruba movie producers before 1993, has given a different opinion and credited the Yorubas with starting the homevideo and even celluloid film productions?
If I can get Kenneth Nnebue's interview from my Google Drive were I uploaded it after scanning it, I'll share it with everyone.
I hope this helps.

naijadrivablog: A Lagos-based JD Auto Workshop car painter was found dead while sleeping in a car packed in a car paint oven . He was reported to have turned on the car, and switched on air-conditioning before dozing off.
According to reports, the deceased, named Oguntunbo, and his co-workers were forced to sleepover at the workshop due to the gridlock on the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
The victim was reported to have allegedly sneaked out from an office, where he was initially sleeping with his coworkers, into a vehicle parked in the oven.
Before he slept in the car, Oguntunbo was said to have switched on the car ignition and the air conditioner so as to have a comfortable sleep.
The next day, his lifeless body was found in the car parked inside the exhaust-filled oven. Several attempts to revive him proved abortive. One of his coworkers named Adesina, narrated what happened before the sad incident.
Oguntunbo’s boss, Daye Oruwari, while commiserating with the bereaved family, said the deceased started working at the workshop three months before the incident. He added that the company supported the family with the burial arrangements. He stated,
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, no mark of violence was found on the corpse. He added that Oguntunbo’s remains were deposited in the mortuary for an autopsy.
These are some of the reasons why it’s a bad idea to sleep in a car, especially in a badly ventilated place where exhaust fumes can enter the car and kill the car occupant. One can die of suffocation as a weak AC will not be able to completely refresh the air inside the car.
This beautiful lady by name Precious, an Agricultural and Bioenvironmental Engineer decided to drop the ego and pride to take brushes to do wonders.
She has all the beauty to move into prostitution or other societal ills, but she rather, made-up her mind to delve into this world/job dominated by men. A big Kudos to her.
Dsalvo: Lol. Why did Ohanaeze not say all this crap about Atiku? The main headache of an Igbo man is the fear of being upstaged by a Yoruba.
Anyone else can disgrace them, like their Fulani slave masters in the PDP, and they would be fine with that.
Yet, god forbid a Yoruba man is above them at anything.
"Turn of the Igbos" yet you cannot begin that agitation in the PDP where Igbos have a genuine stake?
It is Tinubu they now want to scapegoat for an ambition no Nigerian is interested in? I hope Tinubu learns from this and stop indulging these ingrates who are never happy until they own everything belonging to others. Disgraceful folks.
