Islam for Muslims / Re: 12-year-old Caned For Wearing Hijab Out Of Class by Ama28(f): 3:43pm On Feb 23, 2013
What the principal did is extremely wrong and is a form of child abuse. Child right organisations should sue her to court.
The act can damage the girl's self esteem forever! Before the child became a muslim or a christian, she is first of all a child. We have the child right law and it emphasizes that in all matters concerning the child, the child's interest should be of paramount importance. In this case the Principal only considered her personal rules and not the child welfare.
A government school do not ban hijab, even private school shouldn't. She needs to be prosecuted and guys please stop looking at it from religious perspective, an abuse is an abuse no matter which religion is a victim

Politics / Re: Charles Okah Prison Letters. by Ama28(f): 3:56am On Dec 10, 2012
This is some of the cases that takes us back to the cave age. How can someone who has not being condemned be kept in solitary confinement? Is this administration governing cows? People are busy condemning him here in writing. He is not even asking for freedom he is asking for Fair trial and justice which is his constitutional right. Whether or not this letter is genuine shouldn't come up at all! The fact that he is denied fair trial, is enough for his case to be dismissed in an upright court which is not found in GEJ administration.

He should be tried and when found guilty should face the law! Period. Our judiciary should stop playing toys in the hands of politicians and disgracing this nation. It should start practicing "independence of the Judiciary" that they scream to us when it favours them.
Health / Re: HIV Infections Fall, U.N. Says Ending AIDS “feasible” by Ama28(f): 11:49pm On Nov 22, 2012
In the case of Nigeria, I do not agree with the UN. Our prevalence rate is reducing not because there are no new infections but because our infected are dying.
They are announcing scaling up drugs and treatments when donor agencies are pulling out of Nigeria even without following up on their projects and the Nigerian government not willing to pay their counterpart fund.
Ministry of health at the state and national level haul HIV test kits until it remains few days to expire before they empty their stores to volunteer testers to use. Who are we cheating? Even our government hasn't prioritize HIV.

Health / Re: Reliability and Availability Of HIV Treatment In Nigeria by Ama28(f): 2:35pm On Nov 02, 2012
ogb5: I dont know of lagos. But in port harcourt, the military hospital is very good. I have had 2 people treated in the past 1year. The drugs are freely supplied by the govt and they are effective.

The other option we looked at was ubth which we heard was also good.

What i can say is that hiv treatment has greatly improved in nigeria. Federal and state owned hospitals generally provide free hiv drugs but you will spend about 5 hours to attend the monthly clinic and collect the monthly drug regimen

I live and work in Portharcourt, the military hospital is supplied drugs by Global fund, USAID and clinton foundation. The Rivers State Government do not give drugs. The donors give, we are still sensitizing the Amaechi Government to take the initiative as many donors are pulling out. Most of the treatment sites like Help of the sick Mkpogu, Comprehensive Hospital Bori and General Hospital Ahoada do not have working CD4 count machines. Presently the State Coordinator for Network of people Living with Aids NEPWAN in the state is bedridden and there is no bed space for her at the comprehensive or even feeder sites.
Romance / Re: Can You Really Tame An Extravagant Man? by Ama28(f): 9:13pm On Oct 14, 2012
My dear my advice is this, don't expect him to change because he won't. Its not just a habit dear, its a lifestyle. If you go into a marriage expecting to change your partner, you will only get heartbreaks. The hard truth is, ask yourself if you can really live with his extravagance and excesses, if u won't please don't compromise. In marriage decisions, you put urself first because its all about your happiness and might as well be your cross.
Family / Re: How Do You Punish Your Children? by Ama28(f): 1:52am On Sep 27, 2012
Some of the response really got me smiling. But seriously I know that the OP might have used the word "punish" for ease communication but its so wrong. You correct and discipline your kids.

The major difference is that you set the house rules together (with the kids) and attribute corrective measures like not watching favourite TV shows and doing house chores with mum, spending time in the room among other positive forms of discipline.

We use this in our postive discipline and parenting training and later you see olders kids implementing it even in your absence. Example if you use foul language you say sorry. When the kids are alone, if any of the kids use such word, the others will insist on being apologized to. It is same with violence, if you tell your kids to ride okada when they use foul language, when your not there, the older will make the younger ride your precious okada too as punishment.

Family / Re: We Have A Big Violence Problem In Nigeria by Ama28(f): 1:36am On Sep 27, 2012
I read the responses here but the question in my head isn't what the Op is asking. My question is, what's our future and that of our children with these violence behaviours.
Sometimes I read about violence and try replacing the picture of the victims with a familiar face, it sends shivers down my body.
Like some said it starts with the man at the mirror.
I wouldn't want my son engaging in violence act so am teaching him to negotiate and dialogue than go physical.
He isn't going to fight the entire society but he will make good decisions when its up to him.
The overt action against violence is by the authorities and who are they? Maybe the police officer that beats the crap out of the taxi guy who wouldn't hand over his N20 bribe, driving right in front of me

Romance / Re: Domestic Violence And Relationships by Ama28(f): 1:11am On Sep 27, 2012
One thing I have noticed that is quite familiar about women in abusive relationship is the feeling that their life depends on such and thats where people like you and I comes in Mrs Chima.

These men first breakdown their spirit and self esteem before going physical.
I have lost a lot of people in violence relationship that most times, I rebuff warning signs of "no go area".

A close friend had this issue and I had the opportunity to talk to the husband on a one on one (even though my hubby said no). I just made sure I wasn't the one that initiated the discussion because my hubby said I should stay out. After giving the man a piece of my mind, which got through his abusive thick skull, maybe he went home thinking. The abuse stopped for a while and I encouraged the wife to make smart changes at that interim (she got a juicy job out of town and moved with the kids) he had his space to think. But I lost my friendship with the man and he won't even come near my hubby. Who gives a heck? The girlfriend and her kids are happy!

So am HAPPY!!!

Health / Re: My Nephew Has Autism, How Do We Manage It? by Ama28(f): 7:28pm On Sep 17, 2012
Most people are scared of Austism and many believe all sorts of things about them. The first thing to do after diagnosis is what your doing now and that is looking for appropriate help. The first time I walked into a room full of Autistic children I had shivers for the first few seconds but now you can throw me in there anytime, they are wonderful kids.
How to help
Raising such child is different from other kids. In our schools you see one teacher for 30 children right? But for autistic children its a child per teacher. The teacher most have studied special education and have an indebt knowledge about the kid.
By indebt here I mean, the teacher is supposed to be drawing up programs for you at home that you will do with him. It will be dependent on which behaviour or task she is doing with him example toilet training, eating, table manners, dressing one self, sounds etc. Someone here suggested that you do not follow a routine with the child. Pls it is wrong, that routine your making the child learn is the differnce between wanted and unwanted behaviour. If he can come out to the dinning and eat then you have succeeded in helping him adjust. Remember that's why your doing everything adjustment.

You need patience and anger management. In the centre where I trained, they deduct teacher's salary if they assault a kid. So you most check that out.

Autistic children has higher dexterity score than normal(sorry I used this word) children in an intelligent test.
But they score low in mental ability, meaning that his hand ability is higher than his mates, engage him in paintings, craftmans and other hand ability things, that's his niche, let him enjoy it. Choose the ones he do best and let him do it more.
Reward his behaviours, good and bad, we call them wanted and unwanted.
My response is already so long, I need to stop but most especially the specialist that he needs is an educational pedagogist and the earlier he has special training the better. Hope I have been helpful, I work with children, I have trained in an Autistic home in Eastern Nigeria and by Punuka Foundation USA ( I always advise parents to minimise sugar that you give them at night, it gets their energy level high and keeps them up. I stand to be corrected, enjoy the kid!)

emindu: many people have said one good things and another, while some have been of the note that T.A has down-played Abia state governance ,whatsoever ,every man is entitled to their opinion based on his perception of the present administration, because we are in a democratic ruling and we all have the civil right to air our views in what way we observe things however, on a personal note,i will in-turn say that we need to put on hands on desk to help the governor ochendo in championing the affair of this great state,it is something honorary if we acknowledge the fact that Abia state belongs to us and it's our to take care of,we are the stewards of the state, and we are going to give account of the contribution we have made to project the image of Abia in the best way we should....as all these new pro
ject that the governor is putting on ground at newly existing sites and locations should be well accorded with more recognition and accolade, but on the contrary ,some people kept a blind eyes like they are not seeing it....we must carry it as an obligation to always support the good administration of T.A,orchestrate a good manner of initiative, work ethic and patriotism and move Abia forward....ABIA IS OURS,ABIA IS A GREAT STATE.....SUPPORT YOUR LEADERS,CRITICIZE RIGHTLY,DON'T ABUSE YOUR LEADERS,DON'T MALIGN THEM,DON'T DEROGATE THEM,LET TRUTH BE YOUR KEY WORD,LET UNDERSTANDING AND PEACEFUL CO-EXISTENCE REIGN AMONG US,WE ALL ARE BROTHERS AND SISTER...and the governor himself needs our own idea to excel, most times its never easy doing a huge task of that magnitude.... BUT AM NOT SAYING HE HAS FALLING SHORT OF HIS EXPECTATION,meanwhile he has been outstanding at this very second RUN,lets be honest....all we should do is give directives, give him advice,no advice has been irrelevant, but on the contrary, many have been listening to his opposition to post fake pictures of dungs, filthy images, mostly of estranged cities that never had any connection with Abia state, say snide things,as such can not bring us the desire goals we crave for.....let us be good citizens.......if the little you can do is pray, keep praying for Abia ,that is a way a patriotic man exhibits penchant for his fatherland....thank you umu abia...
You are a disgrace to leadership and your generation shall question your today! Always remember that. Political lie singing parrot!
Where are the projects people are closing their eyes to?
Which of the pictures posted here is not of Aba?
You want us to advice him? Cant He see other governors?
He is always galivanting at owerri, so he is not seeing what his subordinates are doing?
You sound more like a political beggar than a Nigerian.
You want prayers? Hear one! Lord pls May Abians never come across any governor like T.a orji and his likes Again. Amen

@ Poster I simply refuse to see Aba from the attitude of residents like you do.
You said Osusu road was built? You are so wrong. Pls when was it bulit and bu which construction company?
The gutter in Osusu road was cleaned by prisoners, all the refuse inside were left on the road. When the rainy season came, it all went back inside. Osusu road has not been used for the past 8years. People using that road to connect to Ama ogbonna pass through st eugene to join it. Get your facts straight. The pot whole in the osusu road after 111 osusu will swallow am entire vehicle. I hope u don't assume it developed over night.
The governor three months ago worked on the samek road and also on ukwu mango (ariaria). That road is. Worse than he met it presently because he practically pour paint on it in the name of coal tar.

Aba is a city that during orji Uzo kalu's first tenure he built aba owerri road and in his 2nd tenure his own car couldn't pass the same road cos he used sub standard products to build road.
In all your appraisal of Aba, tell me presently what you saw there that indicated the presence opf government there. Yet they voted and their vote were rigged to bring in your semi slowpoke bro as governor
Your write up is cheer hypocrisy because the work of the government is to maintain law and order. So why won't his government regulate building construction or pull down micky guest house. No city in this country can survive the treatment the residents of Aba received without getting worse than Aba is right now.
Roads and drainages are government responsibility, the okigwe road you are trying to make excuse for the residents is the one carrying heavy load now as omenazu/faulks is no longer valid. I will wait for ur excuse when that road fails!
Did I forget to say Aba residents paid N13000 per flat(both landlords and tenant) for road maintanance to Abia State government! The tout of a governor hired his fellow touts to arrest residents from their home throughout the city until they paid!
Mr goody goody writer kindly ask T Orji your miserable godfather what he did with that money! In which other state did residence pay for road maintainace.
Poster, go and hide your face in shame mr judge!
Family / Re: Should I End My Marriage by Ama28(f): 9:46am On Aug 20, 2012
My friend, you are really asking too much of your wife and its totally wrong. You claim to be liberal yet you can marry a muslim and she will turn to christian? What's liberal in that?
Why did you bring up her age in this whole thing and left yours out (don't tell me she is older and likely richer lol)? At least you didn't just discover it now.
It looks like your looking for a way to dissolve your marriage.
There is not much difference between catholic and anglican.
I know when u married a catholic, they didn't insist you do baptism because they acknowledge that of the anglican.
This is what happens when people rush into marriage. Now you are complaining about everything, her age, your kids upbringing, your spirituality, her fidelity bla bla bla. My dear tell us the real reason why you want to abandon your marriage? Maybe what you hope to gain eluded you.
Sorry Booo but your stuck there

I think it should be enacted that to attain our presidential office, one must have a military background just like the western world. This is what happens when you give power to someone that is confused.
Which government in the world plays brotherhood with militants?
He is just sitting on the matter and nurturing the feeling that one day he will wake up and it will all go away.

Politics / Re: Controversy Over Move By U.S. to Label Boko Haram A Terrorist Group. by Ama28(f): 5:22pm On Aug 11, 2012
Nigeria is an independent nation and should be allowed to take care of its citizens without direct interference. I strongly believe that the government is still threading softly on this group and Hilary's visit must have sound as a warning. America should give GEJ time and technicality to do this. Direct interference or labelling shouldn't come up at all. Most people feel that we will have nothing to loose if america comes in. Think again and look at all the nations they have interfered in, americans leave these countries worse than they were before they came. You think they can play our messiah? Nope cos they will not invest their national allocation into anything they do not have vested interest in.
Politics / Re: FG To Clinton: Don't Brand Boko-Haram As Terrorist Group by Ama28(f): 4:56pm On Aug 11, 2012
I want to still emphasis that GEJ made a right decision on this matter. Someone making reference to my comment mentioned a terrorist group in Somali land, pls can you rightly point out any good thing america did for them as a nation apart from making their economy a dumping ground for their low quality product?. Why should america do labelling for us? Don't they have terrorist? They are beefed in most countries of the world yet they are throwing stones.
So you want Nigeria to be labelled ITN! And then what? You think it will stop the boys? Get serious, it will only give them the global publicity and motivation they need to do more. Xenophobia against Nigerians can break out in the countries of the world especially the islam nations. You want to call me names? bring it on but you need to think outside the box about this. Just like the minister solicited, we need their expertise to curb this.
