rezzy: Ah, beautiful beautiful children, shai, see wetin poverty cause.
But come to think of if, So for the past 9 months, the man/woman hasnt been saving any dine for the arrival of their babies? I put all the blame on them.
Same thing happened in my area on friday. A woman gave birth at home as usual (she gave birth to all her four children at home) she gave birth around 2 am by 3 am, they noticed that the baby wasnt breathing well. After calling on the pastor to pray, pastor adviced her to take the baby to the hospital, she said no money. Till 9 am before she carried the baby to the hospital by then, the baby was so weak. The baby later died that same day.
What i kept wondering is her saying no money but i always see her go to her saloon shop and besides if the baby had survived she for wear new clothes do owanbe.

Am trying so hard to respond rationally to your post.
Do you know what it means to live on below one dollar a day?
Poverty means you barely make enough to eat talk more of SAVING!
The fact that they are expecting does not mean they might not have other mouths to feed. Do you know what most people in the slum do for a living?
I pity anyone who writes riding on the back of a high horse.

Such a waste of life. Just last few weeks Nigerian government was writing beautiful report to present to the world on how they have achieved the MDG!

Mr Jonathan is busy deceiving himself! Our infant mortality rate is still getting higher by the day!
Imagine the amount of revenue Lagos state generates and yet there is no complete free medical scheme for the citizens!
This is a reported case many others go unreported! Our children die by hours due to PREVENTABLE cause iin Nigeria.

The thing is, the president has no interest in the health sector because its not aviation he uses daily and he doesn't receive treatment here! An educated leader indeed!
May their souls rest in peace, Amen

Good write up Funke, I couldn't stop laughing until I read it all.

But on a serious note, I don't think you paint a fair imagine of married women in your article.
These ill treatments and problems are not found in half of the marriages today.

I know adjustment during the initial period of marriage might call for some of these but dear writer people are unique can adjust differently to certain situations.
I think you over generalized in your work.

I think we should put tribal sentiments aside and pretend that MASSOB is not an Igbo thing, I think the treason trial for a group that is agitating for power without arms is a slap in the face of democracy!

They have a right to association and freedom of expression and is a basic human right!
I think the Federal government want to use these man as scape goat after disappointing Nigerians in all ramification.

These are people Mr Jonathan could have granted pardon in a bid to united this country, instead He is busy creating havoc with his snail-like decision making process.

Romance / Re: Why Some Ladies Remain Single For Life by Ama28(f): 8:20pm On Apr 21, 2013
I think the writer belongs to the traditional media genre and is yet to embrace new and modern media. What you expect from these young women is attainable a decade ago and a lot has happened in development since then. There is also a lot of rigidity in your facts, a girl who ends up doing all you want might not fit in or adjust favourably to 21st century.

I think the advice here should be moderation by ladies and not to relegate them at the background in the name of cautioning for marriage or writing down on them.

I know the writer might not acknowledge this! but he must have advanced from what he use to do ten years ago, so dear writer, stop sitting at the fence and playing god, you too changed!

Romance / Re: High Prices Men Pay For Sex With Prostitutes They Take Home by Ama28(f): 6:10pm On Apr 21, 2013
I think the workers and their customers need to think what the customers are paying for.
As you take her home, are you paying for her services or her time?
From the story here the ladies put up a fight when not paid at the end of the day, whether or not she rendered the supposed service. She is asking for her time to be paid for. Whether or not the customer used the time depends solely on him/her.
I think they may have their point there

I thought Limca is still circulation at Awka? That's where I saw it last few years ago.
Anyway most companies winding up still boils down to our government's hostility towards production.
The fact that we are still a consumer nation at this age in time is appalling.

We are busy importing energy drink and juice (poisons). Then you can imagine the effect such importation for 160million people will have on foreign market!
Family / Re: How Can I Continue To Love My Wife by Ama28(f): 6:54am On Apr 16, 2013
People are so busy throwiong stones and asking for separation without hearing from the two parties! Haba!
And moreover he is asking how he can continue to love his wife and you guys are saying the reverse.
Op, pls sit down and think of the good things about her that made you marry her against all odds. Look for ways of bringing such behaviour out in her. If she is complaining about upkeep money then sit her down and map out something depending on your income.

Those kids know you as their father and you say they look like you, don't go for paternity test, you will only traumatize yourself.

Goodluck

People that are busy screaming divorce here, most of them are going through more horrible things in their home and yet can't even say it in public only to come here and scream because they are faceless.
Most first five years of marriage are horrible, but with mutual understanding u can sail through

Thoughts of a Seeker..OF DIALOGUE, CASH BACKED AMNESTY FOR BOKO HARAM and THE REST OF US..I have but a very terse and laconic response to the ethnic jingoists and tribal bigots who against logic permit and argue for a cash backed amnesty regime for the Haramists. I am profusely opposed to this cash backed amnesty gibbersh and tommyrot being bandied by the Northern Elders and the Arewa groups and methinks unreservedly that he is clueless who supports it. Abi terror na business Who compensates the many who lost lives and properties? Who heals the trauma of families dislodged and dislocated? Who pays for the dent on our collective psyche? And who atones for the many injustices dished out to all by the villains? So sad SMH!! Do we think through the anus? Do we fear God? Must we seek to view even the manifestly satanic, devilish and impish from ethnic and primordial prisms? Sad. Amnesty from prosecution is the only permissible chip for dialogue with the Haramists anything more offends the sensibilities of the living and the memories of the dead. Say NO Nigerians to any cash backed amnesty regime for the Haramists.
May God teach us the right path to tread.

Don't accept what we cannot give!

Politics / Re: Amnesty For Boko Haram Is Wickedness - Oritsejafor by Ama28(f): 10:59am On Apr 07, 2013
For the first time I find myself in the same camp with Oritsejafor!

The definition of this amnesty move is no value for life and lawlessness.
What is the basis for this move?

It has all the wrong connotations!
This issue is so disheartening. It looks like terrorism is a lucrative business indeed! How can we grant amnesty to faceless people. Let them indicate themselves and accept the mayhem they have caused Nigeria as a nation. This Amnesty talk is a slap on democracy and our basic human rights to life and peace of mind.

It shouldn't come up at all. The president hasn't even mention any form of compensation to the victims! And families that has lost their breadwinners, source of livehood and homes! Thousands of families are still displaced!

If they say poverty is the cause of terrorism then let them release everyone in prison because poverty should be blamed for their crime!

Politics or not, Mr Jonathan is threading on a dangerous ground!

This cash in more than most African country's GDP and just one man stole this from a nation

Now how can death kill a man with such cash!

Vanity!!!
If Abacha has stolen this, what of Obasanjo and IBB?
Nemesis, the ones recovered are developing legs and walking away.

I still wave the flag that death penalty should be the capital punishment for corruption and looting

Politics / Re: Only 27.2% Nigerians Will Be Poor By 2015 — NBS by Ama28(f): 8:29am On Apr 06, 2013
I don't agree with this statistics and would have loved them to provide more detailed info on how much we have gone in achieving the MDGs and not to divide their estimated poverty level by two!

In achieving universal basic education which is a basic component in MDG, I think the government has made improvement but has had major setbacks due to the recent terrorist attack! Schools were burnt and child headed homes increase, normally there must be drop in enrolment and due to the destruction of properties, no access to education in some Northern states. I don't think the report took this into consideration.

The same is applicable to health care. The government tried in some states to provide healthcare facilities but such is not available in states like Abia. Constructing good looking health care centres and mapping it like they intend to do without having drugs and doctors at the clinic like the case of Rivers State does not amount to achieving the health aspect of the MDG!

Do we need to talk about maternal and infant mortality.
In infant mortality I will score us 88percent because the government really tried but due to the perception and myth the North still have about the vaccine, we can't go higher than 88.
Maternal mortality is still poor, our women are still dying during child birth in the hands of traditional birth attendants!

How many jobs have the government created to talk about poverty rate reducing in 2years time? Na magic?
Politics / Re: Should I Return To Nigeria? by Ama28(f): 3:54pm On Apr 04, 2013
The earlier you start bringing them home even if its for holiday visits the better. South Africa is also rough so I think they can cope here.

The infrastructure issue there is no excuse about it.

But they need to be visiting now so they can adjust to coming home, that is if this place is called home for them.
Good luck
Politics / Re: Akunyili Supports Death Penalty For Corruption by Ama28(f): 12:53pm On Apr 04, 2013
I strongly stand next on the line on this issue.
Societies make laws depending on prevalent vices and possible and surest means of curbing them.

Corruption is at the center of it all in Nigeria. Our present law only punishes petti thieves and encourages the upper and high class ones! This also affects development directly as it widens the gap between the rich and the poor!

For Dr Dora to say this in the media means she still remains the public office holder present or past with the best leadership quality!
Mr Jonathan need to print her speech here in bold italics, put it under his pillow and sleep on it!

Business / Re: Advice needed : How do I successfully manage my bakery In Nigeria from the UK?. by Ama28(f): 12:07pm On Apr 04, 2013
I have been reading responses here because I think I need such tips too.
But they are not really forth coming. Am home here but I need to hand over a business to someone to face my career, its not easy!

What I can say is, get an experienced manager and accountant to help her.
This business can work I'd she has strong hands to help out!

For mine I intend to poke workers with experience from similar business owners and get them into mine. This is going to cost me more because I will pay higher but they will bring their experience and customers!

Do thorough book review and look for innovative strategies to sell.
Hope I was helpful! Goodluck

And I think its a little early to expect such income! Those who mention that they make millions in bakeries here didn't tell us how many years they have been in the business, their coverage and competitors!

Just thinking aloud, what if the person that is electrocuted holds or touch the exposed part of the woman's body, won't he act as a conductor for the current to electrocute the woman since she is only protected at her bosom from the current?

This is a welcome development though and can only be found in a society where innovation is welcomed and appreciated!

destroy oil pipes and contaminate environment - blame it on corrupt leaders

Kidnap and murder your fellow man - blame it on corrupt leaders

commit ethnic cleansing - na corrupt leaders fault !

kill your wife - if not for the corruption of our leaders i would not be living in the dehumanizing condition that led me to murder my wife!

Too bad it has lingered till now.
If this is not controlled, it might not stop at loss of lives and properties which is the priority of the common man. It might also affect the government tomorrow when they start vandalizing the pipeline and blowing up the wells!

The lives of these people might not be the priority of the government but I know the oil wells are!
So till then we wait!
Crime / Re: Two Nigerians And A Filipino Kidnap A Japanese Engineer In Malaysia by Ama28(f): 11:17am On Apr 03, 2013
Nigeria has been enlisted as a terrorist nation with one of the highest number of kidnapping in the last three years, yet we do not have a stipulated penalty for the crime nor a specific law to prosecute it.

"No plea was recorded from the three accused, who were charged under Section 3 of the Kidnapping Act, which carries the death penalty, or life imprisonment, if found guilty" the above quote shows a society that wants to fight corruption, kidnapping and terrorism at its fullest.
The only thing our legislators are good at is to enact laws that enrich their pocket forgetting the common man they are representing.

As for the Nigerians in this case, too bad you did this in a society where things work. Goodluck!
Politics / Re: FG To Establish 100 Almajiri Special Schools by Ama28(f): 4:55pm On Apr 02, 2013
A step in the right direction. Before now the need to curb street begging in Northern parts of Nigeria was seen as western influence on tradition and culture. Today these children are becoming a source of embarrassement and economic burden to the elites and they have started looking for solution.

The earlier we start targetting Imams and introduce birth control in the North, the better for us all!

I hope the intention of using these schools to appease the Boko Haram works!
