Nairaland is uninteresting without Afam. |
Techwriter: This thread is interesting and I suggest Seun shd brain storm wt stakeholders to agree on topics that shd make it to the home page. For the sake of business. It may have been presented and discussed comicaly but its realy not funny. I am alwayz shocked when I see topics that come to the front. You have done well. But as I said earlier, the job of posting threads at the front page should not reside with only one mod. All the mods should be involved. They are all working hard in their own sections. But their efforts are being dwarfed by only one person. It is unfair. |
Indeed she or he is doing a good job but it's a foul play for every thread she creates to be in the front page. O gini?. Kanu returns late to training at Portsmouth is placed in front page while in that same sports section, other nairalanders have posted some other more interesting topics there yet it does not get to the front page. Whatever the case may be, all the mods should be involved in selecting threads that should be in the front page. NAIRALANDERS PLEASE CALL SPADE A SPADE AND NOT A FARM TOOL. |
chipmunkey: There were no igbo slaves, neither were there any slaves from the middle belt. (nupe, igala and wherever). Very few slaves were traded from bonny before the slave ships relocated to Lagos/badagry where there was a much larger supply. Are you just spreading falsehood or simply turning logic upside down. How on earth can you say that there were no Igbo slaves when in actual fact majority of the slaves sold in the bight of Biafra were of Igbo origin. Ho do you have Igbo in North America, HAITI and other West Indian nations?. Even the Jaja you earlier mentioned was an Igboman originally from Amaigbo. Incase you have not read it here, Nairalanders such as Ezeagu and Abagworo has at some point published the names of Igbo slaves sold to the Europeans from Bight of Biafra. They also published the names of their villages. That thread still exist. |
The slave merchants from Europe did not penetrate inlands of West Africa for slaves. They traded with Aro, Edos, Itsekiris, Oyos, Eguns etc on the coast. But my main concern here is that it was not only slaves of Yoruba origin that were recaptured, returned to Sierra Leone and from there to Lagos. The recaptives were of different ethnic nationalities. Hence it is wrong for one certain chap to claim that all the recatives are of Lagos and Yoruba origins. Lie. |
Hello, famous people of Delta state, am sorry to be here. I do not intend to be here but one fool called Alh Harem claims that am someone different and claiming Delta state. Godbless Delta state. |
This thread is imbecilic as it has no source. |
The outcry here about Igbo women is not neccessary. If others take the lead and Igbo women are last at the table, then there is the need to sound an alarm bell. For now, no worries
|
dayokanu: Relegating women and looking down on the girl child is very common in all African cultures and maybe all Third world not peculiar to IbosWORD |
PhysicsQED: That man wasn't the "sole survivor" of the 1897 sack of the palace; he was apparently the only person alive by 1997 that was in the palace at the time, though.@Physics, you are right. That Igboman was only the sole survivor at the palace during the sack by Europeans. I made some enquiries recently. |
The junk posted by Ybutterfly is totally irrelevant. Have you not wondered why Imo state an Igbo state has led in university admission for the past 21 years. Do not go there because Ndigbo leads in this aspect. |
The Igboman is bold enough to tell the truth even at the expense of his life. Confide in an Igboman, and no man living will hear the subject matter even at the pains of death. He hates betrayal. He says 'yes' and keeps to it and when he says 'no' he keeps to it. That has attracted a lot of friends and business associates to him as well as enemies. Can anyone guess what I do first every morning I wake up from my sleep?. Simple, I will kneel down and thank Chukwu for creating me Igbo. |
BlackPikiN: Ohh shut up. There were Igbo slaves returness from other countries that settled in lagos. esp from Sierra Leone and Liberia!Sometimes I wonder if that clown has two left legs because his ideas suggest so. But surely he is a chap who claps with only one hand. Imagine such a rectum lover. |
tpia@:Apart from that forgiving spirit, The Igbo is the pioneer that strongly believes that with courage and hardwork one must spell sucess. That is why in any business or profession where he finds himself, he makes a success of it, from hawking of goods and services to the administration of political and commercial concerns. He is always far away from vision killers. He believes that vision is the key to fulfillment of his dreams. He wants his life to affect his generation positively. Believe me my sister, The Igbo leads and others!!!!!!! |
The Igboman threads where many dread. That is the singular reason why he is found in most hard and hazardous professions and trades. Before the attainment of Nigerian independence, Ndigbo attained seniour positions in the Nigerian army, navy and air force where courage is a distinctive attribute. He believes courage is a good attribute of 'a man'. In his community, any man who distinguishes himself among others is adored and commands the respect of all. THANK GOD FOR THE IGBO NATION. |
alj harem: Bia nwanne, how have I derailed the thread. I was just correcting Ngodigha aka Andre Uweh to stop lying to Nairalanders about his Identity. Shekena,Am from Imo state and I do not deny it. Am not from Delta state and stop displaying stupidity in every thread. Ikwighikwi. |
alj harem: Maybe you are the one fooling yourself here because you cannot just talk/make claims without evidence. I would be a fool to believe ur crap when I have my own facts and not just talking. Now tell me the names of the families that were returnees ? Anyone that is Igbo among themI wonder what idiotic evidence you have against the work of historians such as J. Ade-Ajayi. He has written lots of work about the recaptives and the spread of xtianity in Igboland. Some of the recatives were from the east and proceeded with missionaries to spread the gospel to easterners. There Igbo names as usual were lost or renamed whilst they were captured. Take it or leave it. Shameless fool. |
Chelsea starting 11 as at today (14/7/12). Cech Ivanovic, A. Cole, Luiz, Terry. Michael Obi, Lampard. Ramires, Mata, Hazard. Torress. What is your take?. |
@The poster. I agree with you. I don't know where to start from but from all angles, they are the best. Check out the Igbo willingness to reconcile and be in good terms again after disagreement. This is in his blood. He can forgive very easily. That was visibly seen in the case where the Igboman forgot the anguish, sufferings and pains of the last civil war in Nigeria and easily integrated into the main stream of Nigerian society. |
^^For how long must you keep fooling yourself here. The Scottish missionaries who pioneered christian evangelism in the east did so with the help of recaptives who first settled in Badagry and later to Abeokuta. To accomplish this task, the Scottish missionaries dispatched with returnees of Igbo and eastern Nigerian stock who will be better suited in their mission. If there were no Igbo ex-slaves in Badagry, how could have the Scottish missionaries chosen people who understand the language and the ways of the natives of the east?. Ajayi, J.F (CHRISTIAN MISSIONS IN NIGERIA. (1841-1891. LONGMANS, 1965. |
alj harem: Na wa o !!! See this ideeeiot. Taylor that was Igbo but could not even translate his own language into writing. You must be a mor.on to think Taylor who you think is an Igbo man really care about this. Are you mad or what. How on earth can you believe that only Yorubas were resettled in Lagos. The recaptives were renamed and came to Lagos with foreign names. So it will be very difficult for you to see names such as Okereke, Okafor, Okonkwo, Okorie etc. By the time the recaptives arrived from Sierra Leone and elsewhere, there were already native tribes in Lagos which you mentioned, but the recaptives mostly were not of those ethnic stock in Lagos. There were Egbas, Ibadans, Edes, Ijeshas, Igbos, Nupes, Edos, etc. This recaptives having become xtians in new world or Europe, now helped with the expansion of xtianity in modern day Nigeria. I know that the expedition to christianise Igboland was led by Samuel Crowther, but he worked alongside some other returnees whom were of Igbo origin. Once again, only a fool such as Alh Harem will disagree with this fact. |
alj harem: Andre Uweh LOLYou must be silly for yourself to think that only Yorubas were resettled in Lagos. Yes Ajayi Crowther was not Igbo but he was not alone in his missionary activities in Igboland. He wporked with Igbo recaptives and some of this recaptives had been renamed European/Christian names. The likes of Horton, Taylor etc who helped with the spread of xtianity ion Igboland were freed-slaves from Sierra Leone via Lagos. |
alj harem: Which other group ?There were Ndigbo who were resettled n Lagos and this group helped with the propagation of xtianity in Igboland. Trust me, not only Yorubas were resettled in Lagos. |
Akarazie---Mostly in Isinweke, and it means may it happen as willed. |
@Antivirus92 and Odumchi, thanks a lot. The other day, I couldn't help laughing when one Igbo chap wrote ''we ndigbos will fight to finish''. It's so funny. |
Your continous usage of Igbos in this thread is wrong. The plural form of Igbo is NdiIgbo (Ndigbo. You may also use Igbo people or the Igbo as plural. The Igbos is wrong just as a people from England are called the English not Englands or Englishs. Ibo===wrong. Igbos==wrong Ndigbo===correct. |
^^^Hulk may never come. But we can do without Hulk, as a result, Chelsea is going for that chap from Fiorentina-Jovotik. |
It's only in football, rugby, cricket and the commonwealth games that they go as separate entities. Other global events-politics, economy, military, music, beauty peageant etc, it's Great Britain all the way. |
@The poster. Please stop making a mockery of Ndigbo here. People like you are the reason why Ndigbo are so much hated here. Stop creating useless threads that will result in Igbo bashing. The Biafran nation that was declared in 1967 did not include Edo, Idoma, Tivland and entire Delta state. Nevertherless, stop creating this sort of threads. |
Perhaps, AVB would have won the F.A cup, finished 4th in EPL. But champions league victory was an act of God. |
Having a thread from culture section in the front page helps to promote, educate and inform the world about Nigerian peoples ways of life. A lot of threads from the culture section are very rich in knowledge and more useful than most topics in the front page of nairaland. My idea may not be welcomed but the truth has to be told. Most people in culture section are not time-wasters. |

as was emphasized here and elsewhere by actual Delta Igbos, we don't find an Igbo root for that name, although Agbor is clearly Igbo today, which is suggestive of something more in line with what Egharevba claimed and what bokohalal mentioned with regard to that song about Udo, Edo, and "Eka" (although the possibility exists that they were "Benin cultured Igbos" (as Abagworo put it) that chose an Edo word only because of influence, not because they were ethnically Edo).
