agaugust: Welcome @Fighter Pilot happy to have you join nairaland. Hope you stay long.
Your above military ranking is faulty though.
Seleka rebels have rearranged African Military Rankings in CAR combat, March 2013.
I know it's just your personal patriotic south African opinion as you said.
Your list is outdated. Sorry brother. 200 sa solders vs 3000 rebels 14 sa solders dead over 500 rebels dead(even posted a interview where a rebel commander admitted he lost half his 500 strong force alone) so how has that changed any thing? |

ckkris: Nigeria, like Japan, can mobilise 15 million troops in 9 months, may have the resources to deploy up to one million into active duty. and how do you get to that, do you even have that many AK47, uniforms, webbings extra. where you going to train them extra basically you don't know what you talking about. |

agaugust: .
true talk @ckkris, Nigeria can easily mobilize a one million soldier army at short notice. even Egypt will be afraid.
I forgot to remind the south Africans that their Grippen jets have a very short combat radius about 800km, they CANNOT even fly beyond Zimbabwe and they keep on day dreaming about challenging Nigerian air defenses 4,000km away ! Lol when did we say we could challenge nigeria by air. i actually said neither SA or nigeria could reach each other by land or air. |

agaugust: @saengine and others :
You think only south Africa buys modern weapons ?
Update your knowledge, 12 new year 2012 L-15 Falcon light jet fighters are on their way to join Nigerian Air Force next year.
More ; Nigeria is discussing purchase of new modern heavy or medium jet fighter JF-17 Thunder or Su-27/Su-30 jets. They new jets are coming, new aircraft hangers are being hurriedly built in 4 Nigerian air force bases as at today, chief of air staff says it's for new undisclosed jet fighters....or what do you think we want to put inside the 4 new big airbases hangers ? Bags of maize, beans and potatoes ?
All sources Beegeagle website.
. the report was the L15 may go to nigeria. or it could go to lets say zambia. any case it has a 3 tone combat load, high speed for a trainer. I dont know if it is better than the hawk supersonic will make it costly has a trainer and only 3ton combat load to small for dedcated a attack aircraft. The f7 was interim and only ment for a limited service period. |

What do you think Nigeria is buying now from India as modern air defense weapons to replace our Roland ? Bows, Arrows and Spears ?

The South African National Defence Force’s Project Radiate to replace existing radios has functioned as a springboard for electronics company Reutech, which is marketing the range internationally. Reutech Communications was present at the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) in Abu Dhabi last week and was promoting its new range of interoperable HF to UHF radios as used for Project Radiate. “There has been a lot of interest at IDEX,” said Johan Volschenk, Regional Head: South Asia at Reutech Communications. Volschenk told defenceWeb the Project Radiate radios are ready for production and Reutech is ready to market them elsewhere – he noted that Radiate was the springboard for the sale of the radios overseas. He said the Middle East area offered good synergy for Reutech products. However, as companies like Harris and Thales are well entrenched in the Middle East area, so Reutech has not done much business in the region. The Radiate-type radios, like the MCR2005 manpack system, have features like frequency hopping, built in datalink, embedded electronic counter-countermeasures (ECCM), GPS, antenna matching system, SMS capability and USB, Ethernet and Bluetooth interfaces. Reutech offers a wide variety of military radios for ground, sea and air applications. The Project Radiate radios encompass short, medium and long range communication systems, such as the V/UHF MCR3005, the VHF MCR2005 manpack system, the MCR1025 HF manpack, the vehicular V/UHF VCR2050 and VCR3020 radios and the HF VCR1100. The FCR5050, HF FCR1100, PCR4001 and VCR4001 radios will follow at a later stage. The first phase of Radiate deliveries should take place in 2013 – these will involve vehicle and manpack radios. The other radios will gradually be phased in over several years. Since the new radios are backward compatible with old sets, they can be phased in smoothly. All Reutech’s landward radios are Link-ZA compatible and feature encryption, frequency hopping and an onboard GPS receiver for situational awareness. The radios Reutech is supplying to the SANDF as part of Radiate were designed as a family from the start for ease of use across all systems in terms of logistics and human-machine interface functionality. Around 4 000 vehicle radios will be produced for Project Radiate, and similar numbers of manpack radios will be produced. Around a thousand radios will be delivered every year. The SA Army and its sister services still use the A53 and A55 hardware-defined manpack VHF radios and their vehicle-mounted stablemates, the B57 and B56, in service since at least the mid-1970s. This was joined by the digital C21 HF radio in the 1990s. Reutech also specialises in radar systems, logistic support, artillery fuzes and remote turrets. http://www.defenceweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=29600:project-radiate-a-springboard-for-reutech-radios&catid=116:idex-2013&Itemid=257https://www.defenceweb.co.za/images/stories/LAND/LAND_new/radios_radiate.jpg |

Can same be said about SANDF in CAR?

Afterall, you have sing praises to high heavens about your "supernatural" weapons, which have just been exposed as inefficient by your own military men. SA never left goma. The DRC solders left. agaugust: the people who read my weblink on Tornado will know that you are wrong, even though they are civilians, they use common sense.
F-22 raptor speed is max 2,400km. modern jets do 800km speed carpet bombing at 9km/h and with american air force having thousands of aircraft, they carpet a whole city and level much it. for jets at 9km altitude, AA guns are useless. south african 26 jets are too few for that level of combat operation.
i always post more weblinks than you, yet you say i mis-inform. where are your own weblink sources ? you always want to post your personal opinion and force people to swallow it with the errors.
nigerian military brains are 3 times smarter than libyan military

how will one Grippen jet escape from 10 Roland missiles in direct combat ? 5 missiles radar guided and 5 electro-optical guided, 10 killer missiles fired in 2 minutes. is the Grippen jet a spirit ?

https://img.thesun.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00475/SNN2507CNN-380_475775a.jpg
you make careless assumptions that can lead to sudden death of your military men
i spend 70% of my life time for the past 20 years studying military weapons, war history, combat strategy and tactics. i work in private dfense company as a research support staff. i am a civilian but i work for retired military officers at colonel rank level
anti aircraft guns are outdated in this age of jets making ground attack at 800km per hour. the guns AA still kill jets today because the man in the sky is always the one in danger, he has no cover to hide in the open wide sky above. even optical AA gun hiding in the bush is a threat to the pilot in open sky
thank God you told one half truth today. Sea Harrier jet is not slow it has supersonic speed of 1,180km per hr. Tornado is supersonic of 2,400km per hr and still killed by Roland SAM.
no web link source for that claim, and even if so Grippen jet showed face after american sea based long range cruise missiles and anti-radiation missiled wiped out libyan air defences from distance stand off position. sweden is NOT a super power.
south africa too is not america, your airforce is far behind the level of american air force. forget this joke
nigeria is NOT unstable the way you think. dont judge nigeria with b.oko h.aram crisis, any country attacking nigeria now will enter the mouth of the lion, nigeria hates defeat, she has a big pride, nigeria will mobilize a one million man army in one month.
let me help you with war history. 1980 iraq attacked iran because of military coup in iran to overthrow government, ayatollah locked all iran`s air force pilots in jail. after iraq`s first wave attack. ayatollah released his enemies from prison to fly F-14 jets. the pilots did it for national pride, iraq could no longer win the war for 8 years until stalemate and ceasefire agreement.
i advise you many times, never under-estimate your enemy`s reaction in war. mistake will cost many human lives.
give us technical details to prove Tornado is not a good jet. it is a jet made by combined engineering effort of Britain, Germany, and Italy...the 3 great super powers of Europe. almost 1,000 Tornado jet are still in combat service today with super powers Britain, Germany, Italy and will remain in service till year 2020.
prove to me it is not a good jet fighter. you make many dangerous mistakes with your military combat analysis, you can make soldiers under your command to go to early grave.
tornado jet weblink source : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panavia_Tornado
south african airforce was hiding on ground most times of the war, fear of Cuba`s air force. google is your friend, we have treated this topic before.
nigerian airspace is too big for south african tiny air force of 26 grippen jets, nigerian territory is almost one million square kilometers, too big a giant for 26 jets to have any impact, you need over 100 powerful jet aircraft to try anything meaningful against a giant nigeria.
andrewza you are a careless soldier, you gonna get k.illed the way you under-rate enemy counter tactics, not only you can think, your enemy forces will think too. that is war. i pity your wife.
. only in your mind is it great. what assumption yet you have still given poor information and some case outright misinformation. Most modern AA guns are radar guided or assisted. And have you ever shot a target at 800km a hour. Bombing run yes but even that is hard. In order to be accurate(like when providing danger close CAS) you need to go a slower. The rolan was designed to kill enemy aircraft flying at Mach 1.3 most aa guns would achieve a similar success of course at a much decreased range i take it you don't know what the speed of sound is. what you want a weblink for, sweden took part with gripen non where lost, libya had real air defense unlike nigeria. i never compared us to america you however did compare yourself to 1991 iraq. you unstable, you work in the job that mentions that. i have a few reports that cover that very topic. BH is symptom not a cause You comparing your self to iran now? firsthand experience, they did not do so weel vs SAN/SAAF in a war game. foolish notion SAAF launched a number of very successful attacks penetrating a real air defense system. Not that ting nigeria has. lots of nothing to ignore though. you post a lot uniformed and misinformation fulled posts why. |

i already proved on this forum and @sitwell your country man could NOT deny my figures. niegria has higher cash dollar reserves than south africa and your debt burden is 6 times worse than nigeria. do i need to repeat the world bank data posts of last week ?
as at today south african grippen has NO long range weapons to threaten nigerian Roland missile defence. i researched UN and SWEDEN SIPRI arms sales log, sweden only gave south africa short range air to air missiles. try to be honest and realistic.
also, nigeria too will not sleep in war with south africa, you buy new weapons, nigeria too will buy new weapons.
show me proof of any NATO jet better than Tornado during the gulf war against iraq.
you say Roland did not shoot down flying bombs ? your research on Roland is too poor. read it, Falkland war records, Roland shot down 2 British Royal air force 1,000 pounds bombs dropped by jet fighters in the air.
i quote :
"Argentina purchased 4 Roland shelter-mounted systems for static defense of fixed installations and one of these was deployed to defend Stanley airfield during the Falklands War with Britain in 1982. This system fired 8 out of the 10 missiles it was deployed with and is credited with shooting down one Harrier Jump Jet and two 454 kg bombs. This system was captured intact by the British."
weblink source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roland_missile
i have proved enough of Roland Missile, i have other things to do with my time. we have all gone down that road before. and i proofed you wrong, any case we can just loan more most of our loan are from our own banks in any case. i dont know may be. F15, F16,mirrage, F18, A10, B1 just about everything. 8 missiles and hit 3 slow moving non ecm/ew/esm protected targets. SAAF is fine |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 3:38am On May 14, 2013 |
agaugust: . @andrewza, listen,
In real war combat situation the aircraft in the wide open sky is in danger from the anti aircraft missile hiding in the bush on ground. That's simple common sense.
You have not researched anti aircraft war history the way I did .
In gulf war ordinary Iraqi anti aircraft guns I mean old out-dated cannon guns shot down several American F-15 jet fighters the best planes in the world at that time.
Be realistic with your comments and don't push your south African pilots to think they are safe in a grippen jet because it's a 4.5 generation jet.
Older air defense always shoot down more modern jet fighter aircraft in all war major history history. Google is your friend.
Standard military fact is that if jet aircraft flies to high it cannot see the target of is bombing far below on ground and the bombs get wasted in trial and error bombing. If the aircraft tries to follow standard air to ground attack principles of 5km maximum altitude it will enter the range of anti-aircraft defenses. South African airforce is NOT American air force, and your grippen jets don't last long in the air due to short combat radius and you have only 26 jets too few to rule a big sky and have super effect fire power in a territory guarded by too many air defenses.
It took thousands of American and NATO jet fighters to weaken Iraqi air defenses. South africa is NOT a super power.
One single Roland SAM, see my post below, defended an air base against a whole British jet fighter squadron, Roland fired 8 missiles and 1 shot down a Harrier Jet and 2 shot down the two bombs the jet dropped.
British military never tried to attack the Roland again, because it will shoot down any aircraft challenging it. British forces had to wait till British Army defeated Argentinian army on ground and capture the Roland only after Argentina surrendered.
Roland SAM has excellent records in war history, no jet fighter pilot ever challenged Roland and survive, they die.
Grippen jet has no record of any combat against any SAM air defense, so all your claims are assumptions and personal opinion
We need to wait for real war when Grippen jet faces a SAM missile anti aircraft defense, then we can compare the result.
Can you use your connection to ask south African air force to play war game with Nigerian army Roland SAM ?
I am not joking please, lets try it. One Nigerian Roland to fire 10 missiles in 2 minutes against One South African Grippen jet as the jet attacks the Roland to strike it with accuracy from the air.
Make sure the pilot kissed his wife goodbye before the war game because his jet will soon be kissed by 10 Roland missiles.
Lets see who will survive. Read more on Roland SAM below. you assume to much you dont know what i do for fun, i have 1000 of pages on all things milltary. I did not join the milltary for a job i joined it because iy is my love. AA guns are not old fasion, and in a high EW/ECM/ESM enviorment very use full. not to menstion they got a ground attack role. though in the SANDF they all so radar guided now. mm a harrie have a problem in attacking a deffend base, seems all correct there. other than it,s vtol abliety it realy averiage. actualy gripen where part of the attack on libya. yes it took nato consbil effort to defeat iraq. 2 problems with use that exampel. 1 nigeria is not 1991 iraq 2 you assume we would rush to victory, nigeria is unstabil we just need to push it over the edge. o and the tordoa was not a good aircraft. thr best nato aircraft of the gulf. SAAF has had a lot of experiance to build doctrain and tatics in pentotrating air defence in angola. you got 16 roland in order for them to be a threat they will have to contriaght around one area. leave the rest of the country open. |

Mbuisi: Does anyone know that the Kenyan Military are the most youngest (early 20s) and fittest soldiers in the whole Africa. By birth we are endowed as runners and our skeletal structure has been perfectly build to sustain fatigue and naturally possess a gene of endurance, including our women. It is very seldom that you will see a Kenyan with a big stomach. Fitness counts a lot as it makes you a lot faster to manoeuvre the enemy in times of attacks and ambush. Military that has unfit soldiers with big tummies stand a lot to lose in battle because such people very slow and some even harbour a lot of health problems. Would love to see them run like the wind with full battel gear. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 7:26am On May 13, 2013 |
agaugust: south africa sold its old cheetah jets to Ecuador. any one remaining with you?
if south africa begins to bring new weapons to war with nigeria, well we have $50 billion dollars cash reserve to buy 100 SU-27 jets with mercenary pilots like we did against B.iafra in our civil war, and nigeria can also buy 100 long range S-300 SAM anti-aircraft missiles with range of 200km to shoot down any jet aircraft from long distance or high altitude.
the best any african air force can do is to enter nigeria and drop bombs any where not knowing if it is hitting any target, maybe just civilian city or agric farmland, no military effect possible.
i said that in air to ground combat it is a world known standard principle in military warfare that you CANNOT pick a ground target from high altitude, you need to come down to low altitude to be sure you are hitting a Roland SAM and not a decoy or an army ordinary transport vehicle.
your grippen jet pilots are not spirits, they CANNOT identify a Roland from the air high altitude, they have to come down and be exposed to the deadly missile they want to bomb.
i repeat, Roland shoots down bombs dropped against it before the come close to do harm.
Roland SAM shot down two Tornado jets of British Royal air force in Iraq, Tornado is NOT slow, it is the most powerful NATO jet in gulf war and with very high supersonic speed and very good electronic jamming devices, yet Roland killed it.
If american and european air force are shot down by Roland, south african airforce CANNOT survive it, you are not even rich enough to keep 26 Grippen jets flying today.
SAM missiles are k.illers. i gave you source weblink, Yugoslav 30 year old SAM 2 missile shot down a modern american Stealth 'invisible' jet fighter and the super fast F-16 jet. SAM missiles ability dont get limited by their age.
no record of any war history where a jet fighter challenged a Roland missile system one on one and the jet aircraft survived, NO, they all get K.illed by Roland deadly system.
i am putting my money on a tested Roland missile, not on an air force pilot that has not k.illed any ground based SAM by direct one on one combat challenge in its history.
even the people on nairaland who dont know military warfare can see the simple clear points i am making.
however, its a free world, you have your opinion, i have my own too. nigerian air space is a death zone for enemy aircraft. Yes. A hanfull are still run by SAAF for denel. They test aircraft. Please don't start again. Any case SA has a far higher cash reserve. And we actually have a planes to get these new wepaons. Read SA defense review. That is 20th centary war far. The grpins can carry long rang targeting pods to desnate targets from long range. Or SF team can target. Nigeria is a good 20th cenatry force. Propblem SA is 21centary. Not well under the effect of EW. The tornado is not that good. Actually it is all so joke compared to the gripen. I know this because we went up against them in a war game. The gripen is a far better aircraft. The tornado is all ready being replaced. And it was not the most powerfull aircraft in the gulf war. It was forced to do low level attacks to avoid aircradt and longrange sam. This put it in rang of short range SAM's. Nigeria dose not have a aircraft or long rang sam to threaten SAAF. All so I have not found the report of the roland shooting a bomb. How many rolands where fired, what was the rest of the sytem they worked in extra extra. Roland never shot down any thing on the lines of a 4gen aircraft. The gripen is 4.5gen. Nigeria all so only has 16. So will either have to spread out or contriaght. Both will lead to troubil. Many rolands where desroyed or ignored during wars. Fly at 20,000metters and laugh at it. Then drop LGBs on it. Don't over rate the roland. By that time the F117 was not a true stealth aircraft any more. Actualy only the B2 spirt is true stealth. And I explaind ho it got shot down. USAF stupidty. Angola had a stronger air defense than vietnam. Yet SAAF pentriot that. The roland is not test against a 4gen aircraft. Actualy it is. No F15 wher lost to it. |

nigerian army vs south african air force
https://nigeriamasterweb.com/Masterweb/sites/default/files/NigerianArmyBanner.jpg
https://fotw.fivestarflags.com/images/z/za%5Eaf03.gif
fly south african Grippen jets at their maximum speed of mach 2 and you damage their engines.
south african air force is NOT american air force, you have NO Grippen missiles to attack nigerian army Roland SAM defence. i checked the UN and SWEDEN arms log, sweden sold Grippen jets to you with only IRIS-T short range air to air missiles NO air to ground missile.
now for some practical air to ground combat information that is not easy to find
speed difference between roland and grippen is no issues in combat, grippen CANNOT launch effective air to ground assault at mach 2 speed, it will lose precision for ground targeting. no ground attack aircraft engages ground target at supersonic speed, you cannot fly mach 2 speed at medium or low altitude, your engine thrust noise alone betrays the coming of an enemy aircraft, and engine damage comes at mach 2 speed below high altitude. then at safe high altitude you cannot target a Roland SAM you cannot see among many other army armoured vehicles mix up around it, how do you pick out a Roland from beyond the clouds cover invisble ?
the faster your Grippen jet flies mach 2 speed, the more fuel it burns, the shorter time it can stay in the air, and already it has a short range and maybe just 10 minutes to stay in the air and try a ground attack, but Roland SAM will stay cool and happy on the ground for many months with no fear of fuel run out.
Germany and France used many years of war experience to build Roland SAM, the NATO war masters are not fools. America had to swallow its pride and buy Roland SAM. a super power country like america is not a fool.
all the american and british jets that Roland missile killed, why did they not attack Roland from high altitude with mach 2 speed ? they know it wont work that way.
no air force jet has every challenged a Roland SAM directly one on one and survive to tell the story.
google history of Roland SAM, it shoots down bombs in the sky before they reach ground target. nigeria will shoot down all south african air force jets and your paveway guided bombs of which you have only 50 pieces. nigeria has 300 Roland missiles and in war they will be covered in camouflage leaves and bushes with nets. south african Grippen jets wont know a Roland SAM among many army vehicles and decoy trucks until your pilot flies 3km close for eyeball sight and withing the 8km range of deadly Roland missile fire.
both nigerian airforce has jammers ans anti ECM electronics, we just published newspaper reports of nigerian new modern air defense electronic systems built by India.
Roland SAM k.illed the best NATO and American jets in direct combat. NATO used Roland till year 2005 long after Grippen jet was built in year 1998.
Nigerian air defence is too powerful for any African airforce to penetrate, only America, China, Britain, etc of that class super powers can penetrate nigerian air defence.
south african air force will be D.estroyed in 5 minutes by nigeria army Roland SAM missiles, and against enemy helicopters, the Shilka Mobile Anti-aircraft guns and many other radar guided Bofors guns are in nigerian army use for powerful air defence.

an army combat vehicle in camouflage, invisible to the aircraft from the real altitude https://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m45y0712KG1r1zhw1o1_500.jpg Why would we maintain mach2 flight? We have paveway 3s LGB from aemerica. And Denel makes a wide range of air to ground wepaons. The paveway 3 has a range of 18km. All that is moot since SAAF dose operate Paveway3 and denel makes LGBs. I mean if we wanted to(total war) we could fly denel's cheeta C and use the 120km long range stand of wepaons. Has I siad it is part of a sytem. Niheria dose not have any thing to cover rest of the air space. Well other than F7's. All so how many aircraft did the roland fail to hit. I know of only 2 losses from a roland that are covirmend (no one knows what happed with F117.) A harrier aka a subsoinic low alltuide aircraft with no EW,ECM.ESM and a A10 that is the same. I could not find reports of F16's being lost to one. Actually many roland sytems where destroyed from the air in iraq. Actually I can not find that report. Any case it was a test. So not under combat condstions. And the fact many where lost from air attacks. I put my money on SAAF. So the LGB is laser guided. And SAAF train to fly with out radar. Datta link means they can use ground based radar to watch the airs. No it shot done a A10 in iraq and a harrir in the falklands. Not really the cutting edge. Just point out you are wrong. And any one can pentriot nigeria. Just get a aircraft better than a F7(not hard since that is most aircraft) and stay above 20,000 metters. Basicaly the nigerian air defense could stop a 1970 era air force not a moddern 21 centrary air force. Anf the combat suit in the gripen is far newer than 1998. |

agaugust: you knowledge of military watrfare is close to zero level because you dont like to learn. you major in denying the truth to your own detriment, it keeps you backward.
no matter how well south african pilots fly grippen jets, the speed of anti aircraft missiles is often two time faster than jets aircraft, the pilots will soon say goodbye to their family for ever.
see your level of ignorance and lies below, you just make a ridicle of yourself many times on military matters.
south african air force pilots long list of air crashes
Augusta helicopter crash last month april 2013
Rooivalk helicopter gunship crash
Dakota maritime patrol aircraft crash
CASA airforce aircraft crash
...and many others crashed in recent crashes.
at least 3 south african airforce augusta helicopters crashed, 2 rooivalk helicopter gunships crashes one destroyed beyond repair and one blindly flew into electricity cables because the pilot was 'very very good'.
weblink source : http://www.saairforce.co.za/news-and-events/attrition
see photo of south african air force helicopter kissing the ground because the pilot is 'very good'
https://www.saairforce.co.za/seed/public/files/article_images/944/4d08c351ce7b4_large.jpg it was 4 A109s though 2 where disghine defects 1 poor light pilot erra other one is pending investigation. the dackota crashed due to bad weather and it being to old to fly over it(and the mountain) power cable are almost impossible to see at night, even the dutch flew a apatch into one and they did not even know until after they landed(they caused a blackout) the roland sam has only a 1.6mach speed a gripen is mach2 all air forces have accidents america just lost a aircraft last week. they happen but the how and why not to mention flight hours play a part. you cant crash if you never fly |

all4naija: The same can be said of Su-24. I added grippen to shorten what we are discussing about. Although , I am not an expertise in military hardware, there is nothing that be said about old Su-24 to beat and chew F7 that is more modern and has modern facilities. So, I doubt your argument.
How are you sure Nigeria only has pl-9 for the air to air combat? All the armaments are available but along with the fighter jets. Of what use are the jet fighters without armament?
Where are the Nigerian military hardware specialists to take on Andrewza? saaf dose not have su24, nigeria dose we have gripens and hawk 120. they where bought with the f7 no other AAM have been purchased since then am have a shelf life, any case the pl9 is a very good aam |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 11:19pm On May 12, 2013 |
all4naija: Do you think F7 is lacking in armament? From air to air missiles,AIM-9, Magic R.550, PL-2, PL-5, PL-7, PL-8, PL-9 to 90mm rocket pod(which will be useful in air to air combat). The combat radius proves it maneuverability will be more useful than the heavy weight Su-24 grippen. The only armament I found to be worth it in Su-24 is the laser guided missiles and only 4 can be loaded.
So, it is a joke to think your fighter will beat and chew F7. nigeria only ha pl9 AAM for the Air to air role. the combat range of the f7 dose not prove maneuverability. it shows it is light. there is no su24 gripen it is jas39 gripen. it may be heaver but still has more power to weight ratio, and agilty not to mention better better radar, EW, ECM, ESM, data link extra. the gripen hsa 8 hard points where the f7 has 5 so please the f7 is no threat it a sad joke. |

agaugust: nigeria too is in world market to buy a new and powerful modern jet fighter for air superiority, maybe JF-17 Thunder or SU-27/SU-30 Flanker. i hear J-10 Flying Leopard contract is put on hold due to some nigerian air force marshals asking for stealth jets J-20 from china, expensive to maintain.
we only see 6 Grippen jets fly a time , all the time in photos and videos. seems only 6 qualified pilots are available for grippen jet in south africa, the other junior pilots skills are not reliable i guess due to low flying hours and financial cost of maintenance a heavy burden for south african air force.
poor combat calculations by you.
anti-aircraft missiles are ALWAYS deadly no matter their age. google is your friend, read how 30 years old SAM missiles shoot down super modern USAF stealth jets and F-16 in combat.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NATO_bombing_of_Yugoslavia
i have studied grippen jet limitations, i have researched to the unguided bombs south african jets have. Roland missile shoots down bombs dropped against it by british royal air force. the whole south african airforce will be totally shot down by nigerian army roland.
you cannot bomb nigerian army Roland SAM, it is a very mobile vehicle moving on road with speed 65km/h and it keeps moving away from your bombs falling from the sky far from high altitude. it also shoots down bombs before they reach the earth.
Roland SAM has never been hit by any aircraft, all jet fighters that tried to attack Roland SAM have been shot down by its deadly missiles. Roland is not outdated as you think, it was used in NATO air forces up till year 2005. Roland is the most expensive and most effective SAM buils in europe and america for battlefield defence, so America had to swalloe pride and buy Roland weapons for air defence just to match Germany and France.
Roland missiles switch from radar to electro-optical or to infra-red targeting at random, it will confuse enemy aircraft by switching off its radar to avoid detection and use electro-optical targeting against enemy aircraft. Roland is very expensive because it is very effective and multiple types of capability in combat.
Roland missile has shot down two British Royal air force TORNADO jets, one American A-10 Thunderbolt Je,t one British Royal Navy HARRIER, and other American jet super-sonic fighetrs, and also shot down two 1,000lb Bombs dropped from British jets bombers. nigerian army Roland anti-aircraft missiles are dealdy k.illers with excellent records in war.
Nigerian army has capacity to fire 300 Roland anti-aircraft missiles in 5 minutes to shoot down the whole of the south african air-force in 5 minutes. No African country can penetrate nigerian air defences, they will be shot down in 5 minutes. you did not FULLY study nigerian Roland missile systems, google is your friend.
. yes yes we know, and they still will not be a threat for a gripen. And NN will not buy some fancy supper costly to maintain fighter, unless they complete fools. you think we would put all 6 qualified 2 squadron pilots up at the same time, or have you heard of somthing called maintenance cycle? we also sent 8 pilots for war games in sweden. It is well known why the f117 was shot down. and it was because someone in USAF messed up big time. Of course if you fly over the same hill every time you going to get shot down. The roland was optically guided for that attack. And the F16 and F117 are all so both old the F117 has all ready been retired from service. if you studied the gripen you would have found out about a article that showed how it is better than a F35. SAAF uses the Paveway 3 and has a few other guided and stand off weapons in the pipeline. They never did that well being under the effect of a active jamming. roland rand 8km(18km dedication range), paveway 3 range 18.5kn. gripen and hawke both carry LGBs that out range the roland. so they could sit there and turn them to dust well actively jamming there radar. basically they no threat for the current SAAF precision weapons, once some of the other newer or even older weapons come into play that have 60km range. then we just laugh at them. they outdated and only a threat if you go low. normally they force aircraft high where other sam sytems or aircraft can threaten them. only nigeria just has the roland. if you fly above 10km you in zero danger nigeria has roland 2 so only radar and optical no thermal. face it if the best you can come up with is the roland f7 combo we will just walk over you. and with only 16 system you either going to focus them at one point leaving everything els open to attack or spread them out making them less of a threat. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 10:45pm On May 12, 2013 |
all4naija: Yes! It is still more competent in fight than your Swedish SAAB JAS39 grippen.
F7 combact radius of 850km(with avionic FIAR Grifo-7 mk.II radar) against your SAAB JAS39 grippen 800km. Where I found grippen to be useful is the thrust and weight against the J7. if all you do is look at one stat you correct. but you failed to mention maneuverability, radar, number of hard points, ECW, ESM, ECM, types of weapons carried, the fact the gripen has data link and f7 dose not extra extra. The gripen was built to beat the SU27 it will chew F7 up for a mid morning snack |

all4naija: There is 12 multi-fighter Chengdu F-7 Airguard bought from China. Those can take on your Su24 any day. F7 is the export name of the J7. SAAF dose not use the SU24 we use the SAAB JAS39 grippen a real multi role fighter. |
