Don't be gullible; these people are not acting on behalf of "youths",
they are common criminals exploiting the political situation for personal gain.
maybe so, but the govt provided them with the avenue for their exploitation. and besides is that any justification for the neglect suffered by this area which happens to be the goose that lays the golden egg? no? i didnt think so!

what really excites me is the disgraceful exit he will forever be remembered for. if he still has dreams of becoming an international statesman, he had better wake up. he disgusts me!

corruption should be tackled from the top (our leaders) that would improve the economy and then the petty fraudsters will fade away naturally.

That being said, let it be known that I do not consider the way the youths are going about it as "right and correct" but i can atleast understand their plight and why it has come to this. I hope that Vice president elect Goodluck Jonathan would help Yar Adua's govt to aid, develop and improve the lives of people in the oil rich niger delta area.
it was bound to happen at some point. remember the saying about the goat being pushed to the wall? quite frankly i don't think the crisis (as it is termed) can be curtailed anymore. resource control may be the only way out of this because after having tasted (through the back door) the wealth that can come out of the land, how can the people be put under control. besides the oil companies are prepared to deal both ways.

No matter the number of luxurious high rises, luxurious cars, and fancy restaurants, in a society, when the purchasing power of the majority of the citizen in a country, declines with each coming here, then, something is totally wrong. That's the situation back home namely, the brutal elimination of the middle class, the decline of the Naira, and the concentration of money in the hands of the rich people. That's being realistic, not pessimistic, or optimistic. When I lived in Nigeria, each time, plans to eliminate fuel subsidy was met with disapproval by the citizens. Back then, before owning a car, I highly doubt if the prices of gas, could determine your ability to afford to maintain a car or not. Sadly, in Nigeria today, people, unable to afford petrol have bypassed buying cars in favor of public transportation. So much stress.

When we talk about development in the country, let it start from the grassroots, instead of sprouting up fancy buildings in big cities, that may be inhabited by expatriates and the nouveau riche.
exactly my point.

whats is wrong is wrong and in saying this, there should be no double standards. Tinubu should pay for his sins, but so should Igbinedion, Ibori, Odili and all the others.

@ noblezone
that was an excellent post. i wonder when we will begin to face facts in this country rather than bow to anything our so called leaders shove our way. this is y i keep saying that a re orientation is urgently needed to move this country forward. from OBJ's post it is obvious that we are the architects of our own misfortune.

Such punishment is not commensurate with the kind of attrocities commited while they held sway as governors.
very true. i think they should not only go to jail but have their property auctioned to the youth of the land!

I don't think it is a wise idea for us to judge him as a Governor. We should look @ what he has to offer as President.Hopefully he will have some ideas up his sleeves.I wish him well though.
its hard to believe he will if he didnt have many for his small state. but then again who knows.

PoliticsRe: Who Should Be Held Responsible For This Disgrace we called "Elections" by angel101(f): 9:13am On May 11, 2007
saintchux:
I disagree with you.

we should blame INEC, FG, OBJ

INEC
They refused to enable a level playing ground for all political parties. The disqualify candidate at will with no reason.
E.G On 13th of April, INEC rejected a court order server on them by Ngige's lawyer to put his name on ballot paper because that day was public holiday. On the same day they accepted a letter from PDP that they are withdrawing from Imo state gubernatorial election, though is a public holiday. There are numerous breaches committed by INEC

FG
The FG refused to release money to INEC on time to prepare for the election, we can recall at a time INEC cheque bounced. The next election is 2011, INEC can start now to prepare for it, they will wait until December 2010.

OBJ
He delcared the election do or die affairs.

How can u blame Nigerians. We came out and voted and the result was changed. Are Iwu or any of his Commissioner that announce result. So what is the offense of Nigerians
while i agree with u, might i also add that the greater responsibility lies with the people of nigeria. these bodies u have listed above only do these things cos they know we will accept anything they throw our way and they can get away with murder. until we stand up to our own responsibilities and reject the evil treatment from these people, we are going to remain where we are.
i remember the first NLC strike in OBJ's administration in '99. it was taken so serious, the country came to a stand still and the FG was forced to negotiate. until we learn to stand our ground and suffer some hardship for the greater gain, i'm afraid we are going no where.

noblezone:
Just like we are thanking OBJ for plotting, executing and endorsing the greatest electoral fraud in the history of this country. People of questionable characters are imposed upon us as our leaders and someone is talking about "credit" to a man who has just laid another monumental foundation for corruption. Election rigging is the worst form of corruption, for that is the ladder through which the corrupt climb to power. The likes of Oshimole must not be allowed to win elections whether his people want him or not, but the likes of Alao Akala and Andy Uba must win at all cost, even if when election did not place in some states like Anambra.

The next four years will yet witness another looting and there is nothing anybody can do about it because we have immunity clause. Yet me thinks that our "great" corruption fighter should have worked hard to have the immunity nonsense removed from our consitution. I am so ashamed to be called a Nigerian: a country where thiefs are protected by the laws of the land.

Do you know why they don't want to remove it? That is the only way their corrupt allies will remain in power. The so called corruption fight is a show like seen on Nollywood. Its a make belief and no sane Nigerian should be deceived by it.

In other to save face from shame, the EFCC and OBJ will try to organise some "Nollywood" arrests and trials, but nothing will come out it. Ribadu is not a politician and he will be shocked how politicians will use and finally dump him. It is impossible for the corrupt to fight corruption. Let us not expect too much in terms of handling the corrupt lest we be too disappointed.
well said man. spot on!
i think we as nigerians need to take our destiny's into our own hands and resist these corrupt bastards. we just cannot carry on like this. the developed countries of this worl did not get where they are by sitting back and allowing some clowns take them for a ride. we need to make the country ungovernable for them until they begin to listen to us and govern us as we wish to be governed. enough of this bullshit!! angry
