He who pays the piper dictates the tune. Governors depend on Federal allocation. Even though it's theirs by right, a president can withhold it. OBJ did it to Tinubu in Lagos.

If governors depended like 90% on IGR, they won't even look the side of the president. They'd flex the muscle which they know they have. They all have an attorney-general in their state who knows the constitution.

Luckily Lagos has IGR far more than most, so Tinubu could afford to be stubborn back then.

Of course a governor as a chief executive is far more powerful than a single senator. People even leave the senate and FEC as ministers to try contest for governorship.

The Senate is now even "an old people's retirement home" for governors in Nigeria.

I beg what kind of animals are we breeding as political leaders in this country. They just do anyhow they like. Anyway I have always said that I do not see this our geographical area as a country. It's a jungle, where the opportuned ones are the predators that feed on the prey. It's survival of the fittest.

Nigerian politics is rough. It's mostly agbero and thugs able to rig elections that get elected. Except you have a godfather with a retinue of his regular long-term thugs to rig you in.

So expect no decent people in those positions. At times some decent political appointees come into the picture. That's it.

No biggie in 2km. Just issue of safety these days. 5km one way, 10km round trip was just normal for many those days. It builds fitness even.

Not true. Landed property is still the most popular investment worldwide. In fact in US and UK, and many other developed countries, most personal wealth and debt are in the form of real estate.

Recessions have been measured largely in impact based on effect on mortgage business. People unable to continue mortgage payment and low demand for mortgage loans and therefore declined house prices and increased repossessions by lenders/banks. Not just unemployment.

Only that in the West there is social housing or housing projects in US such that owning a house might seem not too crucial. But people who want to build wealth for next generation still invest in houses or flats.

I have always said Nigeria is a poor country but people refuse to hear. With Nigerian population anything below 10m barrel per day is nothing. Never mind looting. Wealth is not even oil and gas these days. It is a highly educated, highly productive and innovative human resource.

What Nigeria has is potential wealth if harnessed properly. Ortega had bucketloads of potential but he never became Maradona of his generation.
