Lol, which means the economy cannot support the currency without being kept on life support by fixing currency rate.

The market is not foolish. Investors know its vulnerability. So they invest in oil & gas that they know the West & Asia take away to refine & sell back to us: guaranteed market.

It would make sense if we produced lots of goods and export them and keep our currency artificially weak like Chinese Renmibi. But we are keeping ours artificially strong to keep a facade of a better economy. While unable to attract FDI into sectors that create tangible economic growth and create jobs.

Long & short of it is that Buhari promised a policy of $1 = 1 Naira without a clue of the dire consequences of it.

I suffered an avoidable stroke in December 2017 as a result of my carelessness.

I was diagnosed of hypertension and placed on Morduretic and Niifedepine daily in 2008. I abandoned these drugs for over one year and also did not bother to check my BP on regular basis. On this day in December 2017, I went to the bathroom to have my bath and immediately I poured water on my body, I noticed the left side of my body was numb! I could not move my legs for about 10 minutes, I could not understand my body system again, I was palpitating and had to quickly call my sister. All this while, I didn't know I had a stroke until when we got to the hospital. when my BP was taken it stood at 230/150 and was admitted immediately. later i did a CT scan that revealed blood clot in my brain. I was told i had a stroke/CVA and fear gripped me immediately/ I was later transferred to a Secondary Health Facility for Intensive care.


All the Doctors were surprised that throughout that period I was conscious; I walked., talked, ate and bathed myself. They kept thanking God for me and told me that I do not know what God had done for me to be able to be moving my body and talking. That the part of my brain that was affected was not the part controlling motion, speech etc but sensory that was why the left side of my body especially my foot was numb. The numbness has since disappeared and only feel it small at the edge of my left foot.


My Advice

I DO NOT JOKE WITH MY DRUGS AGAIN! Please and please, for all those that are pre-hypertensive or hypertensive i beg you in the name of God, please take your drugs religiously. Please take your drugs religiously. I am begging us all. It was not a nice experience at all.

This is the exact problem we are seeing, even in diaspora. People with hbp and diabetes are not taking their drugs. Many stopped because pastor told them they are healed and no need for drugs. Those pastors belong in jail. That's a topic for another day.

They then have stroke or kidney failure, often fatal at the end. It is their poor families that suffer when they die or become seriously incapacitated.

The reason it has no apparent effect on the currency is because the exchange rate is fixed at N360/$ (not floating); main reason being to discourage cheap imports and to encourage export.

The CBN currently has enough forex in the reserves to force the Naira back to N200/$. All it needs to do is start a weekly (or increase the weekly) disbursement into the parallel market as has always been the case in the past to ensure Nigerians get cheap dollars for cheap imports. But the idea to fix it at N360 is intentional.

On $1 = 1 Naira we stand.

So Buhari didn't know the economic effect of promising the above? So anyway you twist Buhari doesn't know what he's doing. Forget the tortoise & hare story of CBN being in charge.

If our currency is truly worth anything or supported by the touted trade balance, why fix the rate? Let it trade freely to test it's mettle. That is what free market economy is about. Oh I forget, Buhari would rather run a Sharia economy.

We have a negative balance. Only that the huge amount of smuggled imported goods do not enter official records anymore.

Voodoo economists will tell you that our weak currency has boosted export.

As if we really export things that are competitive like industrial goods.

China & others just need lots of our raw materials to satisfy their growing needs.

I said it almost 4 years ago that Saraki did the best thing by taking SP position in 2015. Look, the Core North & most of the South have different world views. The masses of the North are quite happy with medieval religious feudalism. While the South want modernity. The educated Northern elite know that modernity is the future. But they know that their masses deliberately left uneducated (to make them easier to control) are not ready for that and they happily exploit it. But their own (elite) kids are educated in fine schools abroad.

With time, Southern elite sucking up to Northern elite for political relevance will lose control of the Southern masses. More separatist groups will spring up in the South. Be it over resource control, marginalisation, environmental degradation, highhandedness of FG, etc.. Since elite kids & grand-kids are safely tucked away in mansions abroad, the elite will resist separation (to keep their hold on power). Thus we will sleep-walk into monumental crisis and possibly war on several fronts. The North could then draft Boko Haram & killer Herdsmen (who know Southern terrain well) veterans into Northern army.

Many here will call me prophet of doom or IPOB. But anyone fairly conversant with world history, especially multi-ethnic & multi-religious societies and recent African history can easily see the logic.

In reality, I have very little to lose if things go downwards as they have in the last 4 years. Having lived through Buhari's 20 years military regime, I adjusted my investment in Nigeria. A moved that was inspired and saved me trouble as policy somersaults came in quick succession after May 2015.

So of the most die-hard "I'm not leaving Nigeria, I 'm making it big here in 9ja, I just bough a brand new car" gang of before, are packing their bags as we speak. Money is not everything. Social, security, economic and infrastructural of the whole society matter. And future of your children.

Each time I visit 9ja, I see it getting worse & worse. Around 2008/2009 to 2014, there was some improvement. Especially roads & electricity. After the initial improvement of 1999 to about 2004. But in the last three years, it has been abysmal.

We have never ever been burgled before. But our houses were burgled several times between 2016 & 2018. Rogues carting away valuable good.

Not to mention herdsmen killing nationwide. I gave up farming as workers became to scared to go to farm.
