Family › Re: The Travails Of Marrying Late by AreaFada2: 10:21pm On Dec 22, 2015
a2space:
I am a 37 year old bachelor and I must confess that never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine that someday I would be desperate to get married. When I was in my twenties, I used to hear of desperation amongst ladies to get married but I never clearly understood the feeling. I became like an object of fun in the office when they would call me "the oldest bachelor". I'm telling you, the feeling is not funny at all. Even when people innocently ask "Hey, why are you not yet married?" or "what are u waiting for?" It's a question that I just can't take emotionally. Though I'm doing my best to tie the knot soon but I must confess that it is a feeling that I don't even wish my enemies to have.

If me as a guy could be feeling like this, I can just imagine what single ladies of marriageable age are passing through emotionally.
For those of you reading my post, it is my prayer that you all get married at the right time and age so that you don't have to pass through the same emotional trauma of loneliness and desperation to get married.
OP, I get your drift.

I was discussing this "right time" issue with a friend recently.

Reason was an acquaintance who died this year.

He was too busy with other things in life. Trying to uplift certain family members among others.

He was finally engaged but died suddenly. A total shock to everyone. He was in his 40s.

Had he married at age 30, he might have had kids ranging from 16 to 10 years old. Old enough to remember him.

We pray for God's blessings, protection and long life.

Na wa. Centuries ago, certain people were deemed beneath the status of others. But it has long been abandoned. Slavery in my place ended centuries ago. All men are now equal officially. The Osu stuff now needs serious reform. The leaders and governors and traditional rulers should do something.

I remember this visually impaired, tall, handsome, young lawyer those days. I used to sit in the audience at the Federal High Court. I was 16.

We had no tablets or smartphones. We spent our spare time reading or doing other enlightening stuff. And I wasn't even an arts student.

The lawyer always got a special acknowledgement from the presiding judge.

You only knew he was blind with his white stick and sometimes slightly holding on to a colleague when walking.

Christianity Etc › Re: Holy-Aruosa Cathedral Church: Oba Of Benin Is General Overseer by AreaFada2:
PapaBrowne:
The Bini is the tribe with one of the greatest ancestry in Africa.

I passed through the Moat today and I was marveled at what the leadership of the time(probably 300-400 years ago) put together to prevent invaders from reaching the kingdom.

They dug the Moat, a wonderful defense infrastructure without cranes and bulldozers and yet they covered hundreds of kilometers.

Today, our leaders cannot even attempt to think solutions that would protect us from simple armed robbers talkless of building barriers that would protect us from invaders.

I'm doing an amazing study that has been very revealing. I'm drawing up a pathway that would re-energize the Benin people to tap into the greatness that runs in their veins.
@Papabrowne,

We have a new generation of Christian zealots, I dare say pseudo-extremists, hell-bent on destroying anything of African heritage. Pity that what colonialists didn't quite succeed in doing, they are doing for the long gone colonialists now.

And they will make the patrimony of their descendants much poorer.

The moats as seen today date from about 1280AD. Oba Oguola was the first to commission moat construction.

He also instructed important provincial towns like Udo to do same. Several towns did.

Of course Oba Ewuare and Oba Ozolua, conscious of the threat from Idah/Igalla and Oyo Empire, instructed building of more moats and ramparts.

The moats were built in stages, at different times, by different Obas, depending on economic and military prowess of their reign. And of course imperial ambition, especially after 1440 AD.

The moat also had internal political relevance. Certain powerful chiefs and dukes were within the inner moat. Others were outside the moat.
Benin, like all empires/kingdoms, had its fair share of aristocratic intrigues.

It was a wise thing to have some powerful dukes like Ero & Ezomo well outside the inner moat. In fact one moat is called Iyaro (Iya-Ero) or Ero's moat. Today not from Ero's palace at Urubi area in Benin.

However, smaller moats probably existed much earlier than 1280. For different reasons primarily.

For example, a moat separated the domains of two ancient towns/local rulers some kilometres outside of Benin: Ugbor & Ekai. These are near Country Home area, on Sapele Road side today. In fact it used to be called Iyanuwu (The Boundary Moat).

Moats clearly existed before Oba Ewedo (father of Oba Oguola) managed to defeat Ogiamien and other local lords within Benin proper and enter the heart of the City to reside/build the ancestor of the modern palace.

A mix of tribalism, religious zealotry, and disdain for anything historically African, make people to condemn Benin, its culture, its place in world history and civilisation.
Christianity Etc › Re: Holy-Aruosa Cathedral Church: Oba Of Benin Is General Overseer by AreaFada2:
Dee60:
Did they call it church?

Is there any word church there?

That it is a cathedral does not make it a church.

And I suppose the leader is not referred to as general overseer!
I know people have no knowledge of history these days.

This is one of West Africa's oldest Cathedrals. Dating from almost 500 years now.

Oba Orhogbua of Benin was already a Christian. He even trained in Portugal. Royal Portuguese Military Academy, a foremost military school then.

He reigned about 1547-1580. He set the stage for Esipka/Asipa to become the first Eleko/Oba of Lagos.

By the way, Queen Elizabeth II of UK is head of Church of England/Anglican Church, ahead of the Archbishop of Canterbury. Beginning with King Henry VIII in 1533.

As a white person, some blacks with inferiority complex would applaud that. But not a black King as a church head historically.

babybos:
they should have give us pre paid meter first before the increase
God bless you. The pre-paid meters PHCN has been hoarding and give out to those who pay over the top.

They will hold meters back more so that they can keep dishing out wildly speculative and expensive bills.

Giving out prepaid meters will make everything too transparent. And transparency is something most Nigerians in position of power despise seriously.

Can everyone afford the up to 50k pre-paid meter cost? What happened to the directive to give out pre-paid meters for free?sad

Where will your private business thrive in the future?

These are more will help you decide.

Short term, you need good income to save towards your business.

However, as a Nigerian in diaspora, i want guys to advise what avenues can i explore to access my funds. I am currently schooling in South Africa and my monthly salary is my major means of survival. My naira Master card has been my regular shopping partner.
Smart guys in the house, what options do i have??
Nna, na only you waka come?

Govt never fit care about those in 9ja proper, talk less give a rat a*s about those offshore. grin cheesy

I have decide to close most of my accounts. No need. You cannot pay hard currency into account in 9ja.

Soon you won't be able to withdraw, matter of time. I saw £ sterling selling for 365 Naira somewhere today.

Why save money in 9ja if you're in diaspora only to lose value?

@OP, my layman's idea is get people travelling to SA to bring hard currency from 9ja. Transfer money online into their account, they bring it to you in dollars, etc.

Imagine the effrontery . . the kid threatening to beat up his mother.

It may be too late to get this boy back on the right line. at 16 he is almost an adult and if he offends, he will be treated like an adult.

The problem with kids like this is that the whole community suffers. soon he will be out there being a nuisance to everyone.
They didn't set boundary early enough. They could try juvenile behavioural psychologist.

Or if that fails, just wait till he's 18 and push him out. Shikena.

Buhari's strict economic policies have rendered our naira card useless
But some partisans tell us it will make Naira stronger.

How?

With few dollars available and you cannot even spend using card, there will be more demand for foreign currencies/dollar.

Isn't high demand and low supply of dollars going to increase dollar value even much more? And weaken Naira badly? huh
