They think this is still just SARS matter. SARS is just a metaphor for all the failure, brutality and impunity of the corrupt and heartless elites. For the untold misery and suffering they have long inflicted on the masses.

If they have even a single working brain cell left, they should realise that wholesale reform and restructuring of the country is the minimum they must ensure right now.

Otherwise balkanisation with various warlords, religious fanatics controlling huge swathes and govt controlling the cities.

In Igboland and the entire geographical South-Eastern (Igbo and non-Igbo) part of Nigeria these names are borne by MALE human beings as a mark of their birth day. To the best of my knowledge no other group of people on the planet bear these names; and there is no FEMALE Eastern Nigerian with these names, either. It is exclusively for males. On the flip side, however, specifically among the Igbo, females bear similar names, but this time in Igbo language. There is Mgbeke, Mgbafo, Mgborie and perhaps, Mgbankwo, representing traditional Igbo market days of the week. Curiously, these Igbo versions are not limited to FEMALES. Thus, there is Nworie, Nwankwo, Nweke and Nwafor, borne by MALES. I have always wondered what the logic is about some of the week day names as listed above with respect to gender segregation. Moreover, why do Eastern Nigerian parents not name their children Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday?

That's the story of Benin. That's why you have obvious Ijaw speaking people like Nembe claiming Origin from Benin. The Benin they are referring to is the multiethnic Benin empire and not the mushroom Bini minority tribe.

You have Yoruba, Ijaw, Igbo, groups with history of migration from Benin. They were Benin citizens but not Bini (Edo) people.

So you still do not realise the political nature of Oduduwa and Oranmiyan story?

Evian and his later Ogiamen people were administrators in the inter-regnum. They were never recognised as kings. By that time, Benin had a dynasty of over 1100 years which was impossible to usurp. Only the Uzama (4 and later 5 original Igodomigodo elders) could crown a king and they didn't accept Evian descendants as kings, since Evian was never king.

Empires are by nature multi-ethnic, otherwise it won't be an empire. By 1897, Benin lost the empire, having already lost Lagos in early 1860s.

Benin has 7 local governments today. But how many kings in Nigeria rule over a bigger Kingdom in Nigeria without any other Obas, Igwes, Obis or Emirs within it? kano might have come close but it has been split now. Every area in Lagos has an Oba. Ibadan has more kings now than people.

Only dukes and chiefs exist in Benin Kingdom. Only one Oba.

If not because Igbo have little land (about size of Bendel), little food and little resources and need other parts of Nigeria to survive and do business, this funny lot of them would have done worse than Boko Haram.

I admire Igbo for their industry, but a sizeable chunk of them are very arrogant and dismissive of others, whom they rely on for their business patronage and survival.

Bini did not organize Lagos. They met Lagos organized. They went there to trade like any other group. They were invited to Lagos by Ile Ife princes and Oyo Princes being that they are siblings. Otherwise the Ijebu would have killed them. This is why they stayed in a small area of Lagos Island forming Oba of Lagos. Ijebu from time of trade controlled the whole sea and fought the British terribly for it. Ijebu killed any one, even Yorubas that ventured to take part in their sea fortune. Where were the Bini to fight if they truly controlled anything? They formed obaship in their territory like others did and used marriage to extend their influence.

They did not in anyway cede any territory because a chief priest grabbed the Obaship. Chief priest from Ile Ife. Lagos as of then and before the Benin came was a cacophony of Yoruba people with many Oyo’s here. Those Oyos came with Benin and also have their Obaship in Lagos. Others like the Egba came after. This is why Lagos speaks Oyo dialect. Lagos has been known long before, the Ijebus controlled it fiercely and violently for trade. While Aworis were farmers and more welcoming. Eko is pure Yoruba and is a farm settlement.
