MENELIIK:
The title OBA as used in Benin is a Yoruba word. Akoko Edo people speak (as second language)and bear Yoruba names just like their neighbours in Ogori/Magongo in Kogi. There was no Benin empire rather Benin Kingdom and no Yoruba people were captured by any Benin
Oba is a pure Benin name.

Oba is shining. As in the shining light of Benin. More correctly "Omo n'Oba n'Edo, uku akpolokpplo". Oba Can be used to describe red or ododo. What is the real meaning of the title "Oba" in Yoruba? Alafin, OOni, Olu, Owa, etc all have a meaning that we know.

Oba is even a shortened form. An extra title is "Ogie" or Lord. But because dukes and senior chiefs can also use that title, ogie is less used for Oba.

Other titles in Southern Nigeria that came from Benin world "ogie" are Ogiame as in the original title of Olu of Warri, Onojie (from ogie/enogie) used in Esanland, Ovie or Orodje used in Urhobo and Isoko land.

I am sure if Isoko, Esan, Itsekhiri had become majority tribes over time, some would now the arguing that Benin borrowed Ogie word from them.

Benin do not just do things with historical details behind it.

Having said that, Benin, Igbo, Yoruba, Fon, Ewe and others are from same language group: Volta-Niger/East Kwa/West-Benue branch of Niger-Congo group. Some remnants of the archaic ur-language must have remained in some words.

You try.

Sex is something intimate, even considered "dirty" by some unless within matrimony. Most cultures and religions are shy about it. Period.

It's a pure waste of time...
Why?

Based on Nairaland or real life experience?

If based on Nairaland, do not be surprised if the worst Igbo bashing person here has a sexy Igbo wife or cute Igbo hubby at home.

The worst Yoruba bashing goon was charmed and hooked by a sexy Yoruba lady and so on.

Many here are clowns or pretend to be one. But in real life are so gentle that they seek a release in an anonymous medium like here.

That accident should be investigated.
That should be a standard procedure, since it happened within the airforce base.

Who drove the car?
Overspeeding involved?
Bad roads?
Mechanical faults? The car should be taken to their mechanic workshop for proper analysis of all parts and systems (tyres, braking systems, pads, fluids, accelerator, wheels etc).

We can't lose a promising officer just like that.
I believe the Airforce is a professional organization. They should investigate
But they will not do much to investigate. Especially if the driver is related to a senior officer.

IpobAntidote:
Do you even know that this is a small change when it's all distributed to all the States? DO you know that all these will simply go towards recurrent expenditures and almost nothing left for Capital projects. Nigeria and most States are spending about 80 to 90 percent of their income paying salaries and other recurrent expenditures thereby leaving only 10 percent for Capitals projects, hence they end up borrowing for Capital projects.
For a country of 200 Million people, this is NOTHING. If the population were to be about 5 to 10 million, then you can say the country is rich.
Fact is UAE and others depended on oil like us before. But all diversified and oil money is now little change for some of them. But we did not invest.

It was obvious decades ago that as our population grows, oil won't sustain us.

And now it is even more difficult to invest because that money is peanuts now for our population. We created unviable states all over the place with they huge and expensive bureaucracy.

Nigeria does not need 35 governors and House of Assemblies plus FCT. At most 15.

It's like marry 3 wives when you cannot even care for one.

Its good you posted this thread during time of our festive month. You didn't add that the "Ema" dance is only for Royalties only. When a king is to be coronated, when the king gives titles and when the king perform his yearly festive rituals to his predecessors (spirits of kings) so on these days kings dances EMA together with his princes and princesses and his Chiefs. No commoner dances EMA dance if a commoner dances it the spirits dances it with the commoner and that will make the commoner dance into land of the dead but royalties dance it together with the great spirits except for entertainment after necessary rituals to Spirits of Kings Mind u nobody can dance EMA dance with their cap on the head except the dance is outside the palace. I invite y'all for our festival this month.
Interesting. I presume princes and princesses from other tribes will be welcome to dance too. Especially fellow Edoid ones.
Great culture, amazing energy.

Sanction Nigeria? Seriously is either the Ops lack the knowledge of international relation.
1. Sanction means Nigeria will withdraw it's membership from Commonwealth nations
2. All the assets of BP and other oil companies own by citizens of UK will be taken over by FG.
Can Nigerian companies get oil out of the ground without foreign help?

UK can easily get support from other countries to punish Nigeria. People listen to vibes from Britain as former colonial master.

BP can divest its Nigeria operations easily and move on. On the international scene since Abacha era, Nigeria has never been at its lowest ebb of reputation.

An ordinary Ghanaian citizen can bulldoze part of Nigerian High Commission and nothing happens aside a lame apology that is a mere formality.
PoliticsRe: Olu Falae: Yoruba Is The Glue Holding Nigeria Together by AreaFada2: 2:52pm On Jul 14, 2020
kayjay69:
I feel that the pre-1960s Awo was more mission focused for all the Yoruba people. Personally, I believe if he was allowed to rule the western region alone for 20 or 30 or even 40 years, we as a region would be much better off than we are today.

The post-1960s Awo, before and around the time of the war, had lost his way.

Awo understood long ago that Nigeria, being composed of different tribes, ethnicities and creed, had no business being together which was why he was a proponent of strong regions with states built around ethnic identities.
That was the pre-60s Awo.

For whatever reason after the British left, I guess like the Iron throne in Game of Thrones, Awo became attracted to the prospects of One Nigeria which is why he proposed aligning with Zik. Atleast this much we know to be true.

However, here is what I strongly believe. I believe if each region was allowed the right to govern itself, my region the old western region would be better off than it is presently. By better off, I am referring to the life of the average citizen NOT the welfare of the average politician.

Atleast the politicians of old understood certain things, today's breed do not understand a god damned thing.
Post independence Nigeria immediately threw up far more challenges than everyone expected.

Chief Enahoro once said that founding fathers including himself were too busy fighting for independence that they did not work out how to rule after independence. They thought as Africans they would work together amicably.

But events in Zaire Congo so early on soon proved that Africans could not work together.

The desire to rule at the centre probably became too strong to leaders including Awo.

Remember that Awo's desire to return as Premier split Western Region into Awo and SLA camps.
Something the North cunningly exploited.

Awo could have done what Ahmadu Bello did. He stayed as Northern Premier and sent his boy Balewa to the centre as Prime Minister.

SLA at the centre ring might have given Balewa a very difficult run for his money.

kayjay69:
Brotherly, I hail you.

Agree with everything you say about Falae. As for Awo, for all of what he did for our people, I continue to hold him to high esteem and he continues to be the benchmark for all leaders.

However, I believe his missteps are a part of what led us to where we are today.
Well, all our founding fathers had their missteps. But that is easier for us to say with hindsight.
But Awo knew Nigeria and its ethnic complexity more than most. He suspected that Nigeria will likely fail due to the feudal conservative North.

So he wanted to possibility of secession to be on our constitution. Zik argument vehemently against it and colonial masters sided with Zik before independence.

Awo did not succeed with Yoruba unity because did not have his foresight for Yoruba nation. Awo was honest about his pro Yoruba priorities while others pursued ethnic goals but lied about it. Except Ahmadu Bello who was clear with his Jihadist Dan Fodio pursuit through politics.

Biafra war also gave Awo a serious dilemma. After leaving prison, taking Yoruba people into a potential war would have been a risky move.

Were he a free man before the way with a positive assessment of his support in Western Region, it might have been a different story.
PoliticsRe: Olu Falae: Yoruba Is The Glue Holding Nigeria Together by AreaFada2:

As a Yoruba man, I do not wish for such glue.

Best to split this country and let each have their own right to self-determination.
The elite are so far removed from reality that they cannot feel how this nation continues to spiral into the abyss. His name will secure his kids and grandkids privileges in Nigeria.

I thought his kidnap by herdsmen would have taught him a lesson about the failed state Nigeria is. PA Awo would not sit down and tolerate and the killings and raping by herdsmen in SW.
PoliticsRe: Olu Falae: Yoruba Is The Glue Holding Nigeria Together by AreaFada2:
It true, then it shows that the Yoruba elite are the problem of Nigeria.

How can anyone take pride in gluing a failed contraption together?

So gluing a country of Boko Haram, herdsmen rapists and killers, poverty stricken, Almajiri, yahoo and despised abroad? shocked

This is a selfish project of Yoruba elite to get their fingers on oil money behind Hausa Fulani. Not in the interest of ordinary Yoruba people.

Chief Falae should not pretend that they are doing so as good Samaritans who so much love Ijaw, Igbo, Tiv, Fulani, Edo, Berom, Gbagyi, Urhobo, Kanuri or Hausa people.

Yoruba masses will be so much better off as a homogeneous Oodua Republic. But Yoruba elite would have less money to siphon. Simple.

That was exactly Benin colonial goal. To be the rulers over new lands. Not to disperse regular Benin citizens across the empire anyhow.

In all honesty Obaseki seems to get along well with Buhari. It was obvious when he was APC. Before he left APC he went to see Buhari.

I guess Buhari is feed up with replacing a sitting governor instead of allowing them continue their job.

Having seen Ambode case in Lagos and now Edo, Buhari does not like the trend. It's just unnecessary godfather power play. Hence they sent Oshio packing.

Buhari has far better Intel from states than we know. His slow reaction to critical issues is what baffles me.
