Bigest mistake is to start crying crocodile tears in court and start saying u had a tough childhood and start casting or having any pleas, its the same as pleading guilty
Dont do it, stick to a valid defence, and stick to it, the jury is impartial and must be convinced you are theif, if you have evidence to say you are not then you are not Oga with Nigeria's reputation or rather notoriety oh boy forget impartiality. The US attorney will milk it for all it is worth. As a federal case that involves Dubai police and probably many other countries, his lawyer will know the evidence against him and advice him accordingly. |

adonainana: Let the legal battle begin,
But the thing is FBI already hacked his instagram, gmail, and i cloud accounts based on the affidavit the FBI agent first submitted
Google and Gmail are both American companies, they easily snitch on you and dont tell you to change your password or anything so in your end you just keep logging in and logging out like nothing is happening.
Also his phone records appeared to have been compromised
Even the affidavit the FBI guy submitted had his passport in it ( they could only get that from going into somewhere private in your email )
Then from his bank accounts, large transfers would have been deposited into it someway somehow.
Then the large cash found on him ( any amount more than £10,000 is money laundering on the spot )
The only evidence they probably would tell the jury probably be based on either a conspiracy to defraud.
Based on my experience there wont be much oral evidence, just documentary evidence from the big tech companies saying what was going on in his email accounts and his bank accounts
Conviction easy to secure on this alone without anyone testifying to say he defrauded them and vice versa
Most things the jury would see would just be reports of him discussing wire transfers and how it eventually landed in his account.
Normally the only way to defend a case like this is to argue perhaps a bank learnt you the money or you had a very rich portfolio to start with.
If huspuppi lawyer is smart, he can always start a defence all the tech reports here and there had nothing to do with his client and perhaps a blackmail by the prosecution to make his client pay for unexplained losses elsewhere.
He could also use jusridiction, hush was always in dubai all the time, so hence no connection.
But the hush guy too no go school so im sure he wont be able to even communicate his defence to his lawyer, all he was busy doing was stealing money and buying gucci up and down.
What a pity
Samuel Eluyefa Esq Jurisdiction argument won't cut it. That must already have been argued in Dubai. A crime committed while based abroad but has American victims or victims resident in USA, America claims jurisdiction. Hence extradition to USA. Americans who commit certain crimes abroad can be tried back in America too. If his lawyers can convince the courts that he was a small fry under the control and influence of bigger fish somewhere or a mere poorly educated, difficult childhood man easily used as a front AND he helps to nail those big fish, then he can get a plea bargain that will drastically reduce his sentence. But it seems FBI has overwhelming evidence that he was the mastermind of his yahoo empire. They have massive resources for investigation. If they are sure and conviction seems assured, then plea bargain won't be offered or accepted by the US Attorney's office. |

sulaak: Oil isn't losing its relevance. The medical drugs that you depend on is a product of oil and gas. Nigeria must be the only oil-exporting nation that failed to develop an effective petrochemical industry from its vast oil resources, Nigeria pharmaceutical industries depend on imported petrochemical petrol chemical feedstock from India and Bangladesh, Nigeria is a major oil supplier to India. Please do some research on the petrochemical industries in India, Taiwan, Qatar and South Korea.
There's nothing wrong in being resource-rich if the people are civilised and sensible. Canada and Australia are resource-rich, developed and productive
Back to the main subject, you said Nigeria should embark on baby development steps " Like Tinapa, Lekki, some game reserves, etc. With special tourist police like in Thailand."
Well, thanks for highlighting the issues of Tinapa. Tinapa was designed to be a tourist city, yet despite $700 million investment and good rail links Tinapa is a complete and abject failure, it goes without saying that you need more than infrastructures and goodwill to sell tourism to the world.
The Nigerian story to the world is corruption, poverty, Boko Haram, incompetence leaders and indiscipline people, a tourist has many choices to select from. Actually Nigeria is not the only country that didn't develop a viable petrochemical industry. Venezuela has the largest oil deposit. More than Saudi Arabia. Another big oil producer Algeria also did not. Libya neither. However, it does not mean we should pride ourselves in being in the worst company in that respect. We should have done way more. Let's be honest. Most developing countries do not have the know how. We did not even do much to acquire knowhow. Most medicines do not come from petrol anymore. Biotechnology has taken over. Still most countries use petroleum primarily for energy. Can't we learn from failure of Tinapa? It was a state Gov programme which could have been better conceived in terms of location, scale, orientation, transportation, etc. When you know the rapacious corruption of most Nigerians in the past few decades till now, the cost should not surprise you. My question is as it is, do we just refuse to do anything because of potential disadvantages and look "ayanyan" as the whole world surges past us? Criticisms are many and we Nigerians are all experts in it. But what are the solutions? |

sulaak: Defeatist ...lol, more like awareness and realist.
A country must know it's level.
GSM is a poor analogy, try using a nuclear power plant, you wouldn't recommend Nigeria develop a nuclear power industry, with the knowledge of Nigeria poor maintenance records and culture, the consequence of nuclear failure and fallout is unimaginable.
As you rightly stated without a decent tourist industry we have sexual crimes across the country, imagine what it will look like with tourist industry in a country that cannot enforce the law on its own citizen, yet will be expected to enforce the law on foreigners.
Nigeria needs a reboot, fix the society or at least start trying, tourism will not even thrive in a country that is at war with itself. Tourist thrives in a peaceful and progressive country. Haba! Ah. Nuclear ke? Una Don fit run Kainji Dam finish? You must be a clown. Nuclear analogy is way too "nuclear and explosive". Nobody said tourism will take off mightily right away. Tourist safe zones can be created. Like Tinapa, Lekki, some game reserves, etc. With special tourist police like in Thailand. Nobody not on suicide mission will head to Sambisa forest just yet, as good a game reserve it used to be. With baby steps, we can effectively police the initial few tourists. Even if we take out 5k people from the jobless population through employment so created, it's a contribution to peace. If we get discouraged by the scale of challenges facing us, we will never start. The biggest war within countries in modern times is war of poverty. Jobs alleviate poverty. Oil is losing importance as the world is going green, tax revenues low from poor economy and the youth do not want to farm. So should we not consider other things that resource poor countries like Morocco, Tunisia, Thailand, The Maldives, The Gambia and Thailand have harnessed so well? |

Do you know why 98% of Lagos "belongs to us"? Because Lagos can buy our 5 villages and still be very bouyant.
Do you know why Bill Gates is the most respected by us? Because he can buy those 5 villages and still be buoyant.
Do you know why our blodas worship Amelica even though Trump insulted us? Because Amelica has a lot of money.
Do you know why our blodas wake their parents as if they are taking penalty kick? They do that when their fathers are poor. Dude listen, do not be so categorical. Unless you have raised kids in the same environment and they have left home and doing great. I have seen wonderful parents with like 4 kids. 3 turned out wonderful and one rebelled badly. The kids were all treated equally well. The mother took about 12 years out of work raising them initially. Nothing to do with tribe. All tribes produce high achieving kids abroad but also a share of troublesome ones. Shoe bomber Mutallab (educated in the West) & soldier killing terrorist Adebolaja were not from the East. Some kids for no reason just have a dislike for the discipline and African way parents try to mix with the Western way society influences them. Those kids just prefer the Caucasian or even diaspora Caribbean way. Hardly anything parents can do. In many cases, there is an undetected learning disability. But the child functions well enough so that it's masked until too late. Look, if parents do not work hard enough, people will blame kids' bad behaviour on family poverty. If parents work enough and can provide well, they say they had more emphasis on money. Raising kids in diaspora is not just by skills, smartness or whatever. You need a large dose of luck and God's grace. |

sulaak: I saw this article in The Guardian today and I recalled your post from last years. It's very hard to avoid the journey of Thailand, Dominica Republic and now Kenya if your country is poor and underdeveloped. Tourism in poor countries has a serious downside. Remember when mobile telephony first became popular in the 1990s? Nigeria then rejected the notion arguing that criminals and armed robbers will be using it to communicate. While people in Benin Republic were using it (including people selling petrol in bottles by the roadside, I saw it myself) in the 1990s, Nigeria didn't have GSM. But we later embraced it. We cannot be defeatists. Everything we benefit from today also have disadvantages. Without a decent tourist industry we have sexual crimes. Uwa was raped and murdered in Benin. Another girl has just been murdered in Illorin. Human trafficking is a big issue in 9ja. Done largely by local based in 9ja and abroad. You cannot totally prevent any crime. But you can minimise it greatly. Make a harsh example of anyone caught. |

Some say blacks have more avute health conditions that are notbtreated, some say our melanin and low sunlight conspires to give us low vitamin D. No one is quite sure. Even so many people who never step out of Nigeria or take flu vaccines are killed by the virus , but they are saying the flu vaccine has effect on fatality too..
From the prominent people who have it ,we see how seyi makinde, bala Muhammed, ikpeazu, Akeredolu, El rufai, and co are even asymptomatic...But see how lethal it is on people who based abroad before Since you claim to know, what percentage of UK population is given flu vaccine every autumn even now in 2020? What do you even know about medical history? What is your role in health care in diaspora and for how long? A woman of 99 survived Covid-19 in UK. You cannot take a few cases and use to make a sweeping statement to mislead people. In El Rufai and others you mentioned, do you have they medical files side by side to compare pre-existing medical conditions? It's emerging that Covid-19 has 3 strains so far. We cannot be sure yet if the strain involved affect severity of illness. Covid-19 is an emerging infection, people cannot sit in Africa or anywhere and make potentially disastrous assumptions. While hundreds of thousands of dedicated professionals risk own lives and those of their loved ones battling it. Same way stupid politicians even in the West refused to impose facemask use early on. Costing thousands of precious lives. President Jair Bolsonaro Brazil once weirdly suggested that the heat of the tropics reduces severity of Covid-19 severity. With all these, I think PROFESSOR MAURICE IWU is correct , when he said people abroad are mostly hit by covid 19, because they do take FLU VACCINE,
Let me quote him directly " The Professor said that the flu shots taken in most European and American countries might have made them more vulnerable to COVID-19.
“Most of these countries use flu vaccine. Once you take the flu vaccine and a new strain comes in, it will cause all the defence mechanisms to relax. This scenario makes most countries that use the flu vaccine more vulnerable to COVID-19,” Prof Iwu said.
IF ANYONE SCHOOLED ABROAD OR BASED ABROAD BEFORE AND HAS TAKEN FLU VACCINES, IT SEEMS THIS CORONAVIRUS IS MORE DANGEROUS FOR THEM. But only God truly knows all Dude, flu vaccine is not for everyone abroad. It is for the elderly and those with underlying health conditions. Who are more vulnerable to winter flu. Unless at times like when bird flu broke out from Asia some years back, health and social care workers were encouraged to take flu jabs. To protect patients and the elderly. Otherwise not. When Kyari was at university in UK like 40 years ago, flu vaccine wasn't even commonly given. FKK was at university with Kyari and he and many foreign trained Nigerians are still very much alive in Nigeria. Like the minister Onyeama. The most important thing all the people you mentioned had in common is that they were all over 60 and most were known to have underlying health conditions. |

2fine2fast: That I didn’t grow up there don’t mean I don’t know about my roots. I’m from the Akinlelu family of Ehin-Ogbe and my father built his own house at Idasen, close to the University. Igogo is about Olowo Rerenjegen and his barren beautiful mystical Queen. As a kid my father used to take us home every August/September or so to attend. My late grandfather was the late Akinlelu of Ehin Ogbe, Owo while my late grand uncle was the Sasere of Owo land. Even all through my years working in Akure, I made it a ritual to attend Igogo with my father and his friends, not until i moved further away from Ondo State.
And please read my earlier post clearly, I never said Orlando was born In Owo, he is someone I have met personally. He had his primary school in Owo, maybe St Peters, I am not so sure, but I am very sure he attended Imade Grammar school, Owo. He even met his wife who schooled in St Louis at the same time he was at Imade.
This thread is not about Owo, so there's no point talking at length about it. Maybe you should create a thread about Owo. I only had to clear your misgivings. Peace.
P.S. Your sentence about “Not everyone has the capacity to decipher or links together” is actually a rude way of talking to people while getting your points across. Ah good. He lived his early and late life in Owo, he schooled there.. that’s why he speaks the dialect and sings in the dialect. I’m from Owo but I can’t speak the dialect cos I didn’t grow up there. Oh really? Good to hear you are from Owo. Not everybody has the capacity to decipher or link things together. His music is relevant to show that Owo has a separate identity that developed before the Muslims invented the word "Yoruba". Therefore, it shows in language, culture, names and more. Quite a lot of it influenced by Benin. As culture flowed both ways. I won't expect you to know much about Owo anyway. For example, even though you claim to be an Owo man, I doubt you can tell us without googling the full history of Igogo festival or any of those stuff unique and central to Owo Identity.. FYI, my family name is on a street near Aghofen Ologho. Orlando Owo only partly lived in Owo. He was born in Osogbo. |
