nkwuocha1:There's erosion all over Nigeria. Even in the North. Of course where you have more heavy rains in the South, you have more soil erosion. More wind erosion in the Northernmost parts. |
Noel19:Is Ize-Iyamu worse than Orji Uzo Kalu or Bode George? Both are top politicians and ex-convicts from WA...BIA regions. Going by your analogy, those zones have no people of integrity. Ize-Iyamu has not been convicted yet. Same would apply to North West (Sambo Dasuki), North Central (Jolly Nyame) etc. That means no where in Nigeria has people of integrity going by your logic. |
NCA members are sorely disappointed. She's not from WA.....BIA. So they cannot claimed over educated & sophisticated or Amaka. What you will see is here bigotry & insinuation. ![]() Congrats lady! |
Osagyefo98:We are saying thing o. It still confirms the obsession we are talking about. I do not for example care about details of Jukun or Kanem history, legend, myths or whatever you choose to call it. Of course like all of world history I would read it to keep expanding one's horizon. But that is it. People like you show that this generation is more bigoted than the previous generations. You dispute something but yet living evidence is there for you to see. They should disconnect all these Yaba Left internet connections with alacrity. ![]() I cannot imagine you being head of FESTAC '77 allowing the world acclaimed face of Queen Idia of Benin Empire to be its symbol. Simply because its Benin. Not from so called majority tribe. You would have concocted a mediocre WAZOBIA symbol that nobody could identify with. Just because of envy and bigotry. At this rate Benin matter will just give you heart attack one day and Benin will continue to wax ever stronger. ![]() |
Osagyefo98:Your commitment to Benin matter shows you are have a complex. Outside Benin and Yoruba issue, I have no stake and no interest. So there is something special. Only something special attracts so many detractors. Benin has been X rayed by detractors who claim it is not important. They are all getting bald head about it like a bald eagle. |
Osagyefo98:Well, well. As a veteran of Aro and the longest resident of YL, you will sure be familiar with why people believe it. ![]() Chai! Too many pained people. If you were a serious a person I would have invited you to see these things physically. Because they are still exist. Virtually unchanged. All still play their roles till today. More ceremonially in some cases. Like the Europeans documented them and brass plaques and woodwork depicted them centuries ago. The bronze casting district is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Clearly marked there by UNESCO. Go see for yourself. |
beresponsible:Chai! Just look at how much spent on it so far. Enough to buy land at Isanwo or Imota. ![]() |
EliteBiz:Oh Nigerian elite already think without religion or tribe: When they are looting our treasury and commonwealth dry. So you mean the czar meant to fight corruption but now stands investigated for gargantuan corruption should be ignored by the public. If the allegations are true and they call it distraction and witch hunt, well we want more of both. |
Na wa o. A human being as collateral security? Thank God for his life. |
michlins:Zik lived in the West/Lagos but he never lived in Edo. Zik's grandmother told him the history of Ezechima, their Benin ancestor. The same way someone whose great great great great parents migrated to America centuries back would be told the family story. I believe everyone is best placed to tell own family story. But it won't make them authorities on other tribes, unless they spent their lives objectively and scientifically researching the subject. |
bigfrancis21:Benin & Igbo linguistically belong to same language branch. Precisely East Kwa/ Volta-Niger/West Benue-Congo branch of the Niger-Congo Group of languages. Same as Yoruba, Nupe, Idoma, Gbagyi, Ewe, Fon and several other Southern West Africa languages. So not surprising that certain archaic or proto root words used before divergence remain in their modern forms. Some words may have been previously disused and then re-absorbed from its use by neighborly dominant culture at a particular time. Or always remained in use. The meaning or use of a word may even change as society evolves. The story of four mysterious visitors visiting Nri king without giving their names, but the king cunningly found out anyway is a good legend. But that cannot stand any scientific scrutiny. ![]() In Benin, the week days represent the FOUR cardinal points of East, West, North & South originally. Benin has had a royal guild of astrologers for a very long time. It was one of about 35 guilds. Including Royal Guilds of Physicians/surgeons (Ewaise), of Wood workers (Igbesamwan), of Bronze Casters (Igun), public order/police (Isienmwenro), of Leather workers (Isekpokin), of Bards/poets/composers (Ogbelaka), of Pipers (Ikpakofen) and so on. Nothing was left to chance. These days were also dedicated each to the King and some senior chiefs for their palace activities/appearance. Although they became popular as days when markets with a royal charter/approval are allocated to trade. Before Christianity, Eken became the preferred day of rest and to worship to worship deities. |
michlins:Please stop this ignorance. No scientific, genetic or anthropological or philological evidence that Benin are closer to Yoruba. The absence of a major natural barrier comparable to River Niger on the West side made human and cultural flow inwards and outwards on the west side of Edo way easier than on the East side. Recent studies show some similarities in Yoruba & some Esan people BUT not in Benin people. A Yoruba person put the link on this culture section sometime ago. While people like me have a proudly dual Benin & Yoruba heritage, Benin people generally are not inherently closer to Yoruba than they are to Igbo. People must remember that Benin City still has a higher population of Igboid/Anioma people than Yoruba. Statewide, Yoruboid Ado-Akure people in Edo still won't seriously outnumber Igboid people. Benin, Igbo, Yoruba and many tribes along the Southern side of West Africa including Ewe, Gbagyi, Nupe & Fon people belong to this East Kwa/Volta-Niger/West Benue-Congo branch of the Niger-Congo group linguistically. People actually spend careers of 35 to 50 years studying these things. Travelling, studying and researching both historical and contemporary realities. Not sit somewhere and spew ignorantly parroted assumptions. I have met so called educated Igbo calling Edo people Yoruba. I have also met Yoruba who would claim over education and sophistication saying anyone after Ore is Igbo. Some are over 60 years old even in diaspora. |
ChoCho54:Abeg be gentle with this your upper-cut na. Haba! ![]() Soon na political saffron abi cinnamon you go baptize am. ![]() |
myboy2111:But Tinubu, Oshiomole can force loyalty from Ambode and Obaseki. Living up to una zombie name. Ambode did suwegbe and lost. You cannot play gentle with an agbero like Tinubu. Fire for fire. If Obaseki ends up losing, so be it. But at least he was NOT intimidated by the thugs masquerading as APC godfathers. |
loneprof:Advocate ke? I didn't return home so why should I advocate? I just generally posit that education abroad offers lots of things that fit into the modern life of serious countries. Nigeria clearly isn't a serious country. To me Nigeria is like returning to Victorian society. With so much glaring poverty and a few powerful people can operate and suppress with impunity. Whoever wants to return or stay is their own personal decision. Ko Kan ye. |
loneprof:Question is how many who studied abroad want to return if they have a choice? The world is a global village but is our NASS, politicians and amenities like what obtain in other parts of this "global village"? Let's not fool ourselves. Na hoax. You must make your own patch of this earth good for yourself or the whole world will shun you. I have seen Nigerians who queued obediently at Heathrow or Paris Airport jumping the queue upon landing at MMA. I even confronted a lady once. Environment and dominant culture of a place are most important. Forget the cliché of global Village. ![]() |
Yujin:Lol. I guess Olaudah was far smarter than you are today. It takes an extra intelligent person to manage to buy his freedom in days many were afraid of how to survive on their own. About 100 years after Olaudah wrote, when slaves in America were finally freed, many remained with their former slave owners as workers. Intelligence is from childhood. Funny that everything about igboness Olaudah wrote are credible, but the mention of Benin makes him suddenly not smart enough at 12 to know. You guys are very funny. You forget that Olaudah later traveled widely as a free man and slave abolitionist. He had the wherewithal to cross check his childhood memory and could have edited his book if it wasn't all correct. |
loneprof:Quite often education abroad gives you a different orientation in life. For example no sorting or sleeping with lecturers for grades. You believe more in meritocracy despite some racism. There is emphasis on transferable skills whatever you study. In fact it is just different. The ambience, the exposure, widening of horizon, etc. Not just about getting a piece of certificate or regurgitating what you learnt to pass. No comparison at all. |
seanwilliam:It's simple capitalism. They need the high foreign student fees. People, es elite people from many countries want the respected degrees from USA. Demand and supply. |
Yujin:You underestimate the intelligence of many children. 80% of history of my dual roots, I knew before the age of 12. Including royal & imperial oral history. In those days, prayers at shrines may have ended with "oba ghatokpere, ki ade pe l'ori or the equivalent in Igboid language where Olauda was born and raised. Also stories about affiliation with Benin are not things beyond the comprehension of kids under 12. Having awareness of sovereignty of the Oba over areas in the West & East can't be that hard. |

basybasy:Really? Can you tell us about it? |
Brenn594:Ned Na Muslim. His Muslim name is Munir. The baby boy is named after him. |
Judeerons32:I do not even the second Edo minister and I doubt Ehanire has done anything notable for Edo as health minister. Just being "matter" that has weight and occupy space in any position is not enough. ![]() Well, APC disharmony in Parliament was good for Nigerians. It meant the executive did not have stooges running NASS. For example Magu that is being disgraced now, NASS rejected him. 4 years ago already. That alone says a lot. I want more of that crisis. Not rubber stamp NASS we have now. |
MyVILLAGEpeople:So you mean Ijebu man is our current president? Wow! Yoruba should forget 2023. ![]() Igbo and Edoid people are the only remaining big tribes not to rule 9ja yet. Discount Ironsi's few months. Unless the Yoruba for 2023 presidency is from Ondo state. |
Judeerons32:Well, tacitly Oshiomhole helped to uproot his fellow Edo man, Oyegun. Oshio clearly has no qualms conniving against Edo people. Oyegun managed the delicate balancing act for over 4 to 5 years. Because Tinubu could not use Oyegun to do just his bidding, he engineered his removal. See how long Oshio lasted now. Wrong to say Edo people would have benefited from Osho party chairmanship. He was there for two years to do that. Even the FG position he gave his former deputy Odubu, he lasted only days or weeks in it. You cannot antagonise so many people as party chairman. In any case, Oshio would only put his stooges in positions. No benefit to generality of Edo. We benefit far more from a good governor, whatever his party. |
Maybe he knows the mansions some of them used looted money to buy in Beirut. They cannot do him any poo. ![]() 9ja has no respect anywhere anymore. |
Dansuqi:Now listen. That Uniben main gate, many young lives were lost there in the past. Dashing to cross that road. As kids we saw mangled bodies of students now and then. Many new students from Lagos and nationwide were caught up in it. That pedestrian bridge saved lives. Anecdotally, I remember when Fashola was a law student there, a fellow Yoruba guy & final year student, and his friends, died very near that bridge in a ghastly accident. It was one normal Saturday morning. Nobody knew he would become a minister or governor. Though not from crossing the road. if my memory serves me right, it was about 1987. Lucky Igbinedion built that bridge as LG Chairman not long after that. He was even voted as Nigeria's best LG chairman then. Anything: pedestrian bridge, speed bumps and repairing that road is worth doing to save lives. No need to wait for FG that is slower than snail. |
Ize-Iyamu is such a BIG thief that Oshionhole kept away from from his own government. Oshio kept the pator busy doing night meetings. Now Oshiomhole wants a BIG thief to use siphon Edo money. Because Obaseki won't do his bidding, he now remembered a fellow Oba awon Ole Ize-Iyamu. How convenient. |
Judeerons32:Ganduje is APC campaign boss for Edo. So it's rational to think he will mentor Ize-Iyamu in babariga Dollar Stuffology. It's NOT the type of association with a governor Edo wants. |
Just amazing. They have done well to hide from humans. |
tot:True, true. But sadly it won't bring back millions of Nigerians killed by poverty, crime, road accidents and treatable illnesses because the elite siphoned all the money. |
