infofta: nice When will Nigeria have a central data base which include identities and fingerprint for its citizens. Putting agencies under different ministries to work together requires changes in some Govt acts that established them. When Pantami came he requested National Identity Management office be returned under Digital Economy from Presidency so that it will be easier for Govt to use NSP to gather the data of her citizens. Should we have a sound NSA in the future he may advise next president for a centralized data base but atleast National Identity Management office is doing similar job, it requires the insertion of DNA to finish the job now. Now National Identity Management office has the captured data of more than 100m Nigerians! |
Politics › ISWAP Distributes Old Naira Notes To Passengers On Borno Highway by ArewaNorth(op): 10:54am On Jan 31, 2023 |
Suspected members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) have distributed huge amounts of old notes to scores of commuters in the Lake Chad Basin ahead of the deadline of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) cashless policy, sources have said.
Our correspondent gathered that the incident occurred after Mairari village, along the Maiduguri/Monguno highway on Saturday in Guzamala LGA of Borno State.
A source told the Daily Trust in Maiduguri that the ISWAP members were dressed in military camouflage and drove two gun trucks.
A resident, Bakura Ibrahim, said the insurgents positioned themselves under a tree and stood by the roadside with bags of old naira notes.
“We left Monguno at about 12 noon. As we approached Mairari, there were no existing checkpoints in the area; we were apprehensive.
“They stopped us and asked if we were going to Maiduguri, then they started giving each person 100,000 old naira notes, but we could not believe it. They gave each occupant of the Golf Volkswagen,” Bakura said.
Another source added, “The group simply told us, “If you think you can go to their banks and change it to new naira, go and do so; may Allah make it beneficial to you.” https://dailytrust.com/iswap-distributes-old-naira-notes-to-passengers-on-borno-highway/

Politics › President Buhari Commissions Tier-Four Data Centre In Kano (Pictures) by ArewaNorth(op): 2:03am On Jan 31, 2023 |
President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday in Kano commissioned the National Tier IV Data Centre under the supervision of Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, and office complex of Galaxy Backbone Limited.
‘‘The Tier IV Data Centre is the highest anywhere in the world and this is the best Centre in the country and the first in Northern Nigeria’’ Prof. Isa Ali Pantami, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, told the President at the unveiling of the plaque to commemorate the formal inauguration.
“The reliability of data collection of the facility is 99.99% so it is almost a hundred per cent reliable,” he said.
Prof. Pantami further avowed that the centre would improve the digital economy, provide job opportunities and enhance cybersecurity while supporting the country to consolidate the gains of the digital economy.
The centre, which Pantami described as a technology-upgraded facility, is, according to him, built to provide more storage facilities for both public and private sectors across the country, with its 41 terabytes of memory capacity and 2.2-petabyte storage capacity.
“Government has its main data centre in Abuja, another one in the South, which is a backup, and this is another one in the North West.
“That of Abuja and the South were established some years ago. But this centre here is higher because it is a tier-four data centre. The one we have in Abuja is a tier-three data centre. So, this is an upgrade of the existing data centres we have in the country in both private and public sectors. It is world-class,” Pantami disclosed.
The project was executed by Galaxy Backbone Limited. https://dailypost.ng/2023/01/30/president-buhari-commissions-tier-four-data-centre-in-kano/

IGBOSON1: He’s right! One has to be naive not to know this was all what Buhari wanted power for….to take more than their fair share to the muslim core north while telling the rest of the country there’s no money! Don’t look for paper-trails showing how the funds were acquired and diverted to the north! In all probability you may not find such a trail! These hegemonic northerners are as willy and sneaky as they’re bigoted! Pray, what does Kano do that generates the money they’re using for building these ‘notice me’ projects!? Besides their cornering a larger share of our commonwealth through inflated population figures, useless landmass and a plethora of LGAs, where else is the money coming from!? And don’t even get me started on Katsina in general and Daura in particular! This is all what ‘one Nigeria’ is to these people, and why they’re obsessed with wanting to sustain it….even as quite a lot of them despise Igbos’ with passion!
A oil and gas state like Imo has been so cheated that it can’t even find the kind of the funds available to Kano, Katsina or Kaduna (both legally allocated and got through wuruwuru), but they will expect everyone to keep quiet and join them to be cheering on Buhari and Nigeria!? I wonder the level of daftness in you. Every month FEC publicise FG, State and LG allocations and sharing figure including the 13% given to oil derivation states which isn't even included in the sharing but you are here embarrassing yourself out of excessive ethno-religious bigotry, shame on u. This position shouldn’t even be headed by a Military Personnel 🤷♂️
Much of what is done is forcing graduates to work as teachers in half-baked schools scattered around the country.
This institution should be thinking around upskilling graduates with monthly trainings to develop critical skills (particularly Tech related) and placement to all companies in the country - helping them become employable.
It’s quite painful they still enforce 1970s ideas in the 21st century. The former NYSC boss committed infraction and was suspended late 2022 and NYSC staff was asked to serve as Acting before replacing the suspended officer that is why this appointment is made. Govt always renews or appoints new heads of her offices. We have more than 800 MDAs under FG. |

Najaatu was with Buhari between 2003-2007, she moved to Atiku's camp in ACN during his Presidential campaigns at that time raining abuses on Buhari for no reason. She managed to join merger and became internal enemy of Buhari just because he didn't give her ministerial appointment, she was bitterly disappointed and frustrated but the question is how could Najaatu be picked as a Minister from Kano? In what capacity? How many people can Najaatu canvass for political support? Najaatu is a featherweight politician. She may have political value but close to zero electoral value. What came out of her mouth is enough to judge her conscience. Politics › Mass Resignation Hits BBC Hausa by ArewaNorth(op): 10:39am On Jan 18, 2023 |
At least nine journalists with the BBC Hausa Service in Nigeria have resigned in the last one month in what is described as “unprecedented” in the history of the international media outlet.Daily Trust learnt that the affected staff members comprised two senior digital journalists, three social media journalists – two of whom are senior reporters – a senior bilingual reporter for Hausa/English Africa, a multimedia reporter and two video journalists. It was gathered that while five of the journalists left last December; the four others resigned on Monday to join newly established Africa section of Turkish Radio and Television (TRT) in Istanbul.“This is unprecedented in the history of BBC Hausa. Nine journalists of BBC Hausa have joined soon-to-be-launch TRT Hausa after the Turkish government decided to establish TRT Africa: Hausa, Swahili, French and English for Africa,” a source at the BBC confided in our correspondent. The source said Nasidi Adamu Yahaya, who resigned as senior digital journalist, would head the Hausa service at TRT, with other senior journalists, Halima Umar Saleh and Ishaq Khalid as his deputies. Asked what led to the mass resignation, one of the journalists, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said they were primarily motivated by the Turkish media’s resolve to tell positive stories in Africa. He said: “TRT wants us to change the narrative of storytelling. Other international media organisations have been reporting mainly hunger, wars and other negative narratives about Africa. There are good, positive stories in Africa – business and employment opportunities. There are cultural values, sports, innovations; people that are involved in artificial intelligence-related work. These are what TRT Hausa Service will be covering. Many international media are not reporting these things.“We’re not saying we’re not going to report Boko Haram, banditry and others, but we have other positive stories. There are human angle stories on Boko Haram. We want to give Africans voices. People should be heard about their positive stories; not just negative stories always.”
The journalist, who also described the resignations as “unprecedented,” confirmed that “the last set of journalists tendered their resignation letters today (Monday).” “Some of them are leaving today while others will leave in few days’ time. Five of us left in December. In Nigeria, BBC Hausa has more than 40 journalists, but now, about one third of us are leaving. It has never happened in BBC Hausa Service,” he added. https://dailytrust.com/mass-resignation-hits-bbc-hausa/ |
