infolekan: This is one of the effects of skin deep education that's just barely scratching the surface.
And this I believe is not a Pharmacist but one of those wannabes.
Amoxil and Augmentin are both in the same class for Pregnancy in all Drug compendium and that's either A or B.
Your mentioning of Paludrine as an alternative gives me no other alternative than to leave you to your sea of knowledge.
The person that clicked that LIKE under your post must be a johesuite under a spell cos I'm sure the person had no idea why he clicked the like.
NB - I said you're most likely not a Pharmacists because all the Pharmacists I know could easily have studied Med but decided to go for Pharmacy and would not commit this heresy you just committed up here

My advice is for you to see a Dr. Get your ocular pressures measured and have a visual field analysis done. It should be compared to your last one if you had done one before.

Glaucoma isn't a joke. don't ever stop that timolol till you see a dr.

Its high time NMA responds to such blatant lies. So the salary drs earn is what they use to become senators.

This write up needs to be dissected and trashed.

Its a pity a large portion of the populace will read and believe the lies told.

Punch punch all for a plate of porridge journalism has been thrown to the dogs. Which if the aforementioned issues did the writer investigate before printing this nonsense.
Health › Re: JOHESU Heads To National Industrial Court (NIC) by armadeo(m): 6:21pm On Jul 08, 2014
alakid: Wow! I just hv to respond to this.
1. Augmentin is that same amoxicillin you were referring to, just enhanced with clavulanic acid. It is a category A drug, safe in pregnancy, and more effective than amoxicillin alone. What we can take home from this is that you have cheated your sister.
2. Proguanil (Paludrine) is no longer recommended for treatment of malaria, it is rather used for preventing malaria in high risk patients, drug of choice is quinine, however, Artesunate has not been found to be harmful to pregnant animals, as such can be used in malaria in pregnancy. Our take home lesson from this also is that you didn't allow your sister treat malaria effectively, placing her at risk of many complications of malaria including preterm labor, the very thing you were trying to avoid.
In conclusion, I would advise you to always seek wise counsel from people of knowledge (in this case doctors) whenever you are confused. Thanks
You shouldn't have talked let him show his face here again. At least in know he isn't a pharmacist. Johesuites already encroaching on each others territory.

ILIDEFI: With all sincerity, I believe that whoever does residency in a particular specialty should be appointed a consultant. Physiotherapists stand a very high chance of becoming consultants who would be useful in health care practice. Very very useful.

But, what will be the role of consultant nurses, lab scientists and pharmacists? From my research, consultant nurses and pharmacists in US and other advanced countries don't work in hospitals. They work in places like psychiatric and geriatric homes. Their working in hospitals will cause a lot of confusion, as it happened in a teaching hospital where a consultant pharmacist went inside a ward and started cancelling prescriptions made by a consultant cardiologist.

If other health workers will develop their post graduate colleges and start residency, then they can be appointed consultants when they become specialists, but not based on years of service. In that case, they will be willing to face the risk of losing their jobs and applying afresh as consultants, in which they may or may not be employed. Also, the onus lies on each hospital to determine how many consultants it will need. Believe me, most hospitals in Nigeria won't need consultant nurses and pharmacists, cos they have very little extra to impart in the health care as consultants, compared to how much their salaries will be.

JOHESU is an amorphous body. They should come and fight as individual professional groups. What applies to physiotherapists may not apply to nurses. Consultant physiotherapist makes sense, but not consultant nurse. There is also no need for consultant radiographers and optometrists when consultant radiologists and ophthalmologists are available. What value will the consultant radiographers and optometrists impart that the radiologist and ophthalmologist can't? It will bring anarchy in health care practice. What will consultant lab scientists do in the labs? Even abroad, they mostly don't work in hospitals, but just consult in different facilities just like consultants in other disciplines generally.

I just pray the government will handle this issue maturely and bring a lasting solution to this chaos. God bless us all.
Outstanding logic.

this is another opinion

MeAboki: In a house of 10, when only 1 is against the rest then something fishy must be going on, because all other 9 cannot be wrong.
Doctors greed and selfishness against other health workers is the cause of this wahala.
Imagine going on strike because:
you don't want others to graduate as consultants - even though anyone can become consultant in his own field
you don't others to be promoted to directors - even though the law entitles them to it
you don't want others to skip GL 11 - even though the law entitles them to it like other civil servants.
you want house officers & resident doctors to be paid teaching allowances - even though they are students & not teaching anybody.
You want to be given the highest Hazard allowance - even though there are others more exposed to hazards than you.
you want to take over control importation of laboratory reagents & equipment - even though there is the laboratory regulatory body (MLSCN) as provided by law
you want to head departments or organisations of other health professionals - e.g. NAFDAC even though they are not meant for you.
you do not want other professionals to head hospitals or become minister for health - even though these positions are essentially and purely administrative/political.

And the list goes on.....haba doctors, na una only be ppl?
The above post was by an individual making his opinion known concerning this issue by his reckoning this Dr is talking thrash since a high % of Drs wont support his opinion as expressed but that's beside the point.

tunesoft: I am a Medical lab scientist in one of the state hospitals. I have this strange feeling for doctors, hatred is the extreme form of what i feel about them. Its nothing personal. My family are JOHESU-mother is a nurse practising in the US for more than 16yrs, father is a pharmacist. 2 of my siblings are pharmacist and one a nurse. My mother watched the sunrise daily yesterday and kept on screaming. Theres no place in the US in which the other health workers heads. They are usually headed by doctors. Not all nurses are made consultants. You talk about consultant nurse when you talk about the legal aspect and they dont work in hospitals. Relativity is maintained everywhere in the health sector. Whats the debate about?
As hard as it is for me to write this, i want to be on the side of truth. The doctors in this country are not given the necessary respect that they need. Personally, i have read the 24 point demands and i think theres so much sense in it. The FG needs to do something about this. Lets join our hands and build our health sector. Really you expect her to come out publicly and state her issue. You make me laugh. Dr owolabi was able to come out and say he disagreed publicly because he was well aware nothing would happen to him unlike the phantom who knowa what her fellow JOHESUITES are capeable of over an issue of difference of opinion. so first we agree that the Dr gloria whom you "googled" is not the same as the one that you are claiming to be pretending to be an MLS (meaning you are predisposed to telling half truths or outright lies).

secondly if a Dr Owolabi can come out publicly to declare his opinion AGAINST the on going strike for whatever reason does it not stand to reason that an MLS can also be against the stand of JOHESU.

Is this beyond your comprehensionhuh

Joenz: All is fair in war YOU say. Many Nigerian physicians can go to any level n do the ridiculous to drive home their egoistic points.I'm not suprised at all.

PerfectFortune: It is only in Nigeria that the Drs want to head all aspects of the medical profession but want to remainunprofessional, arrogant and complete chEats.

They want All nurses to have Bsc cos that is the minimum in the USA currently (without a pay rise and when they get there Phd they should not be addressed as Drs of Nursing and when they become Profs should still not be consultants) . Pharm D should not be approved (as it is currently in the USA) cos it will give the Pharmacists the privilege of being addressed as Drs which will inturn lead to them becoming a consultant and as such can head a medical institution which is d practise in the USA currently.

They are less concerned about the patients, self centered, arrogant and completely undertrained (unprofessional) harbalists are better than some of them but want to remain at the top.
