From nland right? I read that he had a terrible accident on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

I don’t have much hope for Nigeria but Obi is my preferred candidate, if he wins hopefully he isn’t another disappointment.
Yeah. Glad he survived.
Right, I try to have small hope...not that he Mr. Obi is the perfect candidate but better than the other old men.

I heard they are now looking in Black markets, lives will be needlessly lost because of a foolish iron fisted leader
Maybe they have another agenda - reduce the pop.
I heard those in high position are using Pfizer and other western vaxx/booster shots.

Maybe it will be too expensive for them though to get Pfizer for their huge pop.

Nigeria - still waiting for the Nigeria of my father's dream. True - the state of things!

Can you imagine Egunmogaji is leaving Nigeria for physical therapy outside Nigeria. What is UCH like now?
I was told UCH is the shadow of its former self. Oh well!
I just hope Mr. Obi wins...what does Tinubu and Atiku have to offer, again ?
All of them sent their multiple wives to UK for slight cough and multitudes of children for schools here using money meant for development of Nigeria.
I'm shocked to see people coming out for them at political rallies. Wow!!

ibkayee:
You ‘want’ Nigeria to have a disproportionate doctor to population ratio, poorly serviced hospitals and a lack of adequate facilities? That’s odd.

I don’t really care about who does and doesn’t japa, I do care about the state of Nigeria though. That’s why I have no problem being honest about the issues.

Yes, a lot of people use idioms. But idioms are generally reflective of ones culture. I explained how in the US a lot of standardized tests are biased against minorities/immigrants because of the same assumptions you are making. Words even have connotations.

Since I found the "Do you like Reading" somewhat insulting. I studied Latin for 7 years (and a couple of other languages). Since Latin is a foundation for Romance Languages and English has a lot of Latin borrowed words, I can understand what the person intended to convey themselves instead of reading someone's translation (word choices/connotations/understanding). And with Greek, helps in better understanding what you read. FYI, I've probably read every classic there is, and some of them in Latin.

Just saying, your view of language, words, culture and how they are intertwined is somewhat simplistic. And lastly are you arguing that idioms are only in English?

Here is one definition of idiom:
a form of expression natural to a language, person, or group of people.
No insult intended. I wanted to recommend some books. But never mind. You guys like getting things twisted. I no longer like going into the rat hole or tunnel.
Have a great one and thanks.

Please Nairalanders,,matured ones

Which country can I get the visa easily and the transport cheaper and less competitive with 1.5 million Naira

Even though I have about 5 million Naira in my account,, someone has decided to help me

Please I don't want to make mistakes in this?

Which country can I go to??
The idea of someone deciding to help you is bad idea. You are trying to use your hard earned money to fill someone else's bank account.
If the someone will help you with free information that you pay nothing to him for, good. Otherwise forget it.

Research and apply to schools. Check the tuition and other expenses. If the money you have will cover your expenses, correspond with the admission office of the school directly.

Honestly, not a fan of the word "common" when it comes to idiomatic expressions. It assumes there is a language culture/that is dominant. What is common in Nigeria, is not common in the middle east, is not common in the US. Are you saying it is a common Nigerian idiomatic expression or a worldwide one?
English speakers generally - Anyone who loves reading and went to school here or anywhere English is used etc will come across idioms. There are many idioms in books. American use idiomatic expression.
Do you like reading ?

Read Canterbury Tales back in highschool, forgot that reference or didn't fully understand it when I did. It's basically saying keep your distance from certain people. But without understanding the culture of the time, the expression is meaningless. Why would one need a long spoon to keep distance if you're not eating off the same plate as someone? A long table like Putin has would make more sense. No?
Long spoon in the context used gives one idea of space - space between something.
Anyway happy New year.

It's generally meant as, be cautious when dealing with bad people if you must deal with bad people.

You don't need any spoon to not sup with bad people you keep a distance from.
Our friends in politics don't do that. Now Mccarthy is paying the price.
He should just leave like Ryan did. It is not by force.

I like your honesty. Your last statement should be your pragmatism going forward. Expecting native Brits to imbibe Nigerian culture does not make sense. Anyone who is interested in his cultural practice should develop his environment so that he can practice those cultural rites/events without being obstructed.

If you are in Rome, do as the Romans.

If you at your apartment next holiday, cook, eat and drink eggnog. Watch movies and get a good sleep. By the time you wake up, Christmas day is over cheesy

Ask him! They take solace in the insolaceable!

Instead of using the money to improve Nigeria roads or hospitals, they pocket the money for their multitudes of children's education in UK/Europe. Arab countries etc

They should bring back Harry and Megan and stop being petty about HM raining on their parade for being too sought after.

I bought from the African store just once after I moved to my current city. Planned buying a full goat maybe some time in January.

As for Christmas, I am attempting Quail. I know it is delicate as it can dry out very fast since it doesn't have fat but I think it should be worth the experiment.
Full goat - great meat for melon soup and stew.
Haven't tried quail meat. But the egg is good.
Merry Christmas!
