Kidnappers demand N50m for Ondo commissioner’s mother By Ayodeji Moradeyo October 20, 2010 03:23AM print email The kidnappers of Pege Esther Wewe, the mother of the Ondo State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, have placed a N50 million ransom on her before she can be set free from their captivity. Also abducted by the unknown gunmen is 12-year-old Rachael Lawrence, who is said to be a relative of the commissioner. Mrs Pege Wewe and Rachael Lawrence were said to be kidnapped at Sabomi area of Ese-odo Local Government of the state on Friday, October 15. The kidnapers, numbering ten, were said to have stormed Sabomi in the night and ferried their captives to an unknown destination where phone calls were put through to the commissioner for culture. The commissioner, Tola Wewe, is currently working closely with the police to secure the release of the captives. The spokesperson of the state police command, Adeniran Aremu, said the command was making concerted efforts at ensuring that the kidnappers are arrested. Mr Aremu pointed out that the police would do everything to ensure that the captives regained their freedom, stressing that “whoever is connected with this unwholesome act will be made to face the wrath of the law”. “The Ondo State Police command condemns in strong terms the barbaric attitude of the miscreants behind the kidnapping. The state commissioner of police, Ballah Magaji Nasarawa, assured members of the public of adequate security and that the command will apprehend the people behind the dastardly act,” he said. Sheer wickedness He urged members of the public with useful information that could help track down the criminals to forward the same to the state police command. Meanwhile, the Ondo State government has described the action of the kidnappers as the height of inhuman action and depth of human wickedness. The state Commissioner for Information, Ranti Akerele, said it was sheer wickedness for some people to have kidnapped a 81-year-old woman from the comfort of her home. “The government of Ondo State condemns the action with all the vehemence at its disposal and we are leaving no stone unturned to secure the release of the woman who incidentally is the mother of a high ranking state official. “The moment we learnt about it, government began to take necessary steps but until the woman is eventually released, we cannot judge our intervention as fruitful yet. But we are working in conjunction with security agencies in order not to jeopardise the safety of the captives. “I want to say, however, that Ondo State is not a haven of criminality although we are a Niger Delta state; such things would not be allowed to thrive here. “We want to tell the miscreants behind this occurrence that such enterprise will not find any place here, as government is ready to protect all law-abiding citizens and put the weight of the law on offenders http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/News/Metro/Politics/5632463-146/kidnappers_demand_n50m_for_ondo_commissioners.csp |

tpiah:What makes you think i support the girlfriend staying in the house at the time the mum was there? Can't you understand that the issue is how the mum went about it and not about the girlfriend? Read the poster's posts to understand that there is a bigger issue/problem here where the mum does not even recognise that the son is now grown. |
oh wow, lots of bad blood in that familyBawomolo that family is a classic case of why severe stictness application all round can be counter productive. You do not apply the same strictness to a 17 or early 20s year old person with a guy in his late twenties and thirties. |
from this thread i now finally say that a lot of nigerians are high level hypocrites. Apocalypse if at your age your mum is still drawing your ear when she is not happy with you then i can tell that you have a far bigger problem that i thought.Look better try to start drawing the line now and try and assert yourself otherwise you might end up a very bitter man against your mum. |
Bayelsa derivation revenue may trigger crisis By Bassey Udo October 18, 2010 11:19PM print email A constitutional crisis looms as concession granted Bayelsa State to receive extra derivation revenue for nine mega offshore fields may trigger legal agitations from other oil producing states in the federation. The Bayelsa State government, in a letter dated February 16 to the then acting president, Goodluck Jonathan, had requested approval for the attribution of nine oil fields to assuage negative impact of the delimitation of maritime boundaries of littoral states by the National Boundary Commission (NBC) in the wake of the promulgation of the Offshore/Onshore Dichotomy Abrogation Act 2004. Timipre Sylva, the governor, who signed the letter, listed the oil fields, which included some of the country’s biggest deep offshore oil concessions, like the Agbami, operated by Chevron, with proven oil reserve of over 770 million barrels; Bonga, operated by Shell, with proven reserves of over 1.5 billion barrels; and Akpo, operated by Total, with proven oil reserves of over 630 million barrels. Others include Chota oil field, with 60 million barrels reserve by ConocoPhillips; N’Golo oil field, 100 million barrels reserve by Elf Petroleum Nigeria; Nnwa Doro oil field, by Statoil; and Aparo by Chevron. Mr. Sylva said the delimitation has put Bayelsa State in a disadvantaged position in the allocation of revenue since 2004. He drew attention to the impact of ecological damage to the state’s coastline, pointing out that the exercise did not attribute the oil fields and wells to the littoral zone of the state, “despite the huge security challenges, increasing environmental and health concerns, and the state’s massive contributions to the amnesty programme.” The presidential concession would make Bayelsa State the highest derivation revenue earner among the oil producing states in the country. However, following the approval of President Goodluck Jonathan on August 31, the other littoral states are poised to equally demand their share of derivation revenue based on the delimitation of their location beyond the 200-metre isobath of their seaward boundaries. Available data for the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) on the revised 13 percent derivation indices for July, obtained at the weekend, based on the concession, put total oil production for Bayelsa State at 15,995,773 barrels, ahead of Rivers (13,317,840 barrels), Akwa Ibom (12,796,954 barrels), and Delta (11,163,493 barrels). Prior to the concession and subsequent revision of the volume of oil production figures attributable to each state, Akwa Ibom topped, with 13,905,432 barrels, followed by Rivers (12,636,795 barrels), Delta (11,163,493 barrels), and Bayelsa (10,313,368 barrels). Legal breach The concession to Bayelsa State to enable it earn derivation revenue from oil wells lying beyond the 200-metre isobath, according to some lawyers, is in breach of the Offshore/Onshore Dichotomy Abrogation Act 2004 in the application of the 13 percent derivation principle. Innocent Ogboru, a Port Harcourt-based legal practitioner, said the decision may lead to agitations and court actions by other states, like Lagos, which also has oil wells located beyond the 200-metre isobath in waters within their boundaries. “The new twist in the calculation of oil derivation revenue will reduce the amount of net revenue available to the Federation Account for distribution to the three tiers of government, consisting the 36 states of the federation and the 774 local government councils, as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), after the deduction of derivation payable to oil producing states,” Mr. Ogboru said. The 2003 interpretation of the Supreme Court judgment in the resource control suit instituted against the Federal Government over the implementation of the offshore/onshore dichotomy, which ended the controversy, did not include revenues from oil wells outside the statutorily allowed 200-metre isobath as part of derivation calculation http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/Money/5631884-146/bayelsa_derivation_revenue_may_trigger_crisis.csp Is this the beginning of resource control? ![]() |
@apocalypse, You are much more older than this girl, from your thread you are 11 years older than her. I will still advice you go for girl close to your age, the age gap is too wide, my brother. I can imagine when you will be 50 and she will be 39. Think about it.!!!
Did the poster tell you that age is a problem ![]() Is the girl not in her twenties and the guy in his early thirties So what is wrong there ![]() na wa for nigerians. apocalypse:Look bros i understand the psyochological angle or issue you are going through but what has happened has happened. Try and convince the girl that even though your mum went over the top that she meant well however you have to make the girl understand that you are still in charge of your affairs(to be honest i am not too sure how you are going to do this) Then most importantly you need to sit down with your mum and discuss your life with her.Let her know how appreciative you have been for all the things and sacrfices that she has done for you.Let her also know that you cherish her intentions of why she did what you did but you do not like the way she did it. Let her know that you are now in your 30s and no longer a teenager or in your 20s and you need to be accorded respect too.Try and do this in a soothing voice and when she is calm. |
ifyalways:Sorry but though strictness is good how you apply it matters too.In my street where i grew up i have seen two families where the severe stictness of the parents have made the children all who are older than me not to communicate with the parents again. In one of the families the dad died and 4 of his 6 boys refused to come for his burial. |
ifyalways:The bolded actually happened to my elder brother and i was at his home then. She arrived from owerri to lagos where he was staying and meant the girl.Obviously she was mad but she still waited for my brother to come back to tell her how she felt about the whole thing.Of course mt brother later had to tell the lady the score and stepped off. i still believe she has to talk to the guy and make the guy do what he is supposed to do. |
omogidi234:This statement is what differenciates a matured way of handling issues and an immature way of also doing so. |
tpiah:Read the guys post in detail to understand what i am saying. yeah everyone should move on.i guess we all can behave anyway we want without minding the cosequences on what we are doing. |
DapoBear:Actually ekiti people behave like anambrarians.Anambrarians hardly invset in their state but the kind of houses you see in anambra are something else built by anambrarians world over. |
ifyalways:Ify read the poster's posts carefully. It is not just this incident but there seems to be in the posters mind that he has been caged by the mum activities for a long time.Agreed that the mum took good care for him and even suffered for him but there poster also seems to feel that he needs some space in his life.I do not know about ladies but as a guy i know that feeling of wanting to do your own thing without the feeling that your mum is breathing down your neck.In one of his posts he said that the mums actions prevented him from being streetwise and i guess for him to say that he is a bit dissappointed in that. The guy says he is in his early thirties so there is that urge in him to feel independent. This action by mum has deflated that a bit and if you are a man you must know how it feels. The issue here is the approach by the mum in doing it.i personally believe the best approach is calling the man aside and telling him how she felt about the whole situation and reasons for feeling so.A man must never be made to feel he is incapable on managing his home in a blatant manner his own unless he admits it. |
One more quastion to poster on a lighter note Are you from Anambra going by the stereotype of mother's control over their sons ![]() |
Princek12:+1 The people supporting the mother do not seem to realize the problem that is going to brew in the future here. From the poster's history it seems that the mum has had a very great control over his life till now that she cannot really believe that the son is now a grown up. Why not sit the guy down or both the guy and girl and voice her views?By the action she just took she has zilch confidence in the ability of the boy to make his own decisions. Also going by the the way he was brought up he seems like a classic mummy's boy.How many ladies to be honest want a typical mummy's boy? It is good that the mum went through a lot for him but there comes a time to draw the line. |
truly:you talk like say na UK you dey. this na naija wey people dey hail thieves and 'sharp men'. how many of kids or children of people that have embezzled money in the country have we told to their faces all these things you are talking about? you go even suprise say na the kids' friends go dey hail their papa as 'sharp man' have u been close to the kids of these type of people? |
