Kidnappers want ₦30m for commissioner’s daughter

Suspected kidnappers of a daughter of the Ondo State Commissioner for Works, Yele Omogunwa are demanding for N30 million ransom from the family for the release of the woman.

Twenty-six year-old Omoyemi Omogunwa, a student of the University of Cairo, Egypt was abducted at Edo lodge area of Oke Ijebu, Akure around 5pm on Sunday by some armed men.

The woman, who returned home a few days ago from Cairo, was reportedly trailed by her abductor before they snatched her. Her family members launched a search for her about three hours after she left the house.

Tension later heightened among the family members when she could not also be reached on phone, as her mobile set was switched off. It was at this point that the father reported the incident at Ijapo Police station.

He also called on the state police commissioner, Donald Iroham, at about 11.30pm when his daughter could still not be reached.

However, as he was stepping out of the station, his phone rang and the caller informed him of his daughter’s status. The kidnappers, who reportedly insulted the commissioner for reporting the case to the police, later demanded for N30 million from him to secure the release of his daughter.

Police investigation

To confirm that the woman was in their custody, the kidnappers also allowed her to speak with her father.

A source said the commissioner had started negotiation with the kidnappers, in order to secure the release of her daughter. The public relations officer of the Ondo State Police Command, Adeniran Aremu, said the command was currently investigating the matter with a view to securing the release of the commissioner’s daughter.

“The command was not part of the negotiation over the ransom, as it had no knowledge of any demand for ransom,” Mr Aremu said.

Efforts to reach the commissioner for comments proved abortive, as his mobile phones were switched off

@aldon, Yeah i gat dat punchline, What am saying is if u translate it in english, it wont make as much sense again, Rugged played on d fact dat the pidgin english word 'pass' may mean 'better' and also 'more than(as in many more times)', So rugged said: "i rap pass(better) pesin wey de work 4 giftshop(a person that wraps a lot, As in many times). in english, It'l b like 'i rap better than a giftshop worker' {not d same meaning as d pidgin line} or 'i rap more times than a gift shop worker{still not d same meaning}, Its only the pidgin english line that combines both ideas, Hope u get me o!
@topic, So y'all wont criticise for spittin in vernacular, Or pidgin? If sb drops a verse on flow for rank wiv pidgin or writes a callout verse in pidgin u'l think its still as tighthuh Then y dont we do it?
Inferiority complex.

lol, I know you must have been among those trumpeting a certain PDP victory in the last elections. I will dig up your posts to confirm it.
My Nnewi folks say that "o bu mmadu si ka edo nwere nkwo, a si ya ka onwere eke, o ya aju" translated -it is the masses that says that Edo (the chief deity or goddess in Nnewi) should own the Nkwo Nnewi market, if she (Edo) is told by the same masses to move to Eke market, she has no choice but to obey!

PDP is only as powerful as people like you give it powers. Anambra people proved that.

We can dismantle the PDP evil stronghold if we want, YES WE CAN.

We don't need to go anywhere national if we don't have good government in the south east. That is part of the PDP lies. We need to give the best government to our people, not criminals from a "national party".

I need good roads, and best social infrastructure. I don't need Nigeria's presidency if it must come from PDP.
We must reject this PDP lies of national political relevance. All the regions that have produced Nigerian presidents are not better than south east today. We need to see past this national politics lie especially if it will corrupt our way of politics and life. cool
I have always believed that thet average igbo person simply wants basic infrastructure such as roads, power, securities etc and not Presidency for bragging purposes. It does not add value to anything.I know the arguments about political influence but i still think that infrastucture is of utmost importance than a figure head.

Let me use and eg.For those that are familiar with spain and it geo-politics i wonder if there has ever being a spanish prime minister of Catalan origin yet the Catalan region is regarded as the richest region in spain(important or biggest city here is barcelona) yet the capital of spain is madrid and previous prime ministers including the present one are almost always Castillan.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/8410730.stm

That is why i prefer some kind of autonomy for the different regions in nigeria so that they can determine there economic prosperity.

For Orji Uzor kalu, everybody in nigeria (north, east, west or south) knows that he is a thief
Off course na PDP wey Ik Nwachukwu go get votes.Who in apga go vote Ik Nwachukwu?

The thing is you guys have to understand is that the power brokers in nigeria are not interested in an upright person to become the president of this country let alone an upright igbo man.All they want is someone who can PLAY BALL.

Until we kind of restructure this country guy forget it.

This is what we have been talking about!!!!!So in the whole of South East you believe Orji Kalu should legiimately represent the South East? as President of Nigeria? on what basis? Orji Kalu is an embarrassment to the South East!!!!!!!!!1

Please say something more useful
I believe that him or Ike nwachukwu for some reasons that are known are the only igbos that can win rig a presidential election in nigeria today and be accepted by the power equation as presently structured in the country.

Who said i believe that OUK is the only igbo capable of ruling this country  huhI f u have seen my posts about him you will not be making this statement.Left to me if you give me a gun i will not blink an eye to blast both him and his mother for making Abia the sorry state it is now.

Do you think the present political structure i n nigeria wants an honest igbo man huh Try and understand where i am coming from.

Do you honestly believe Martins Agbaso will defeat Ohakim in next election?

Onlytruth

Chekwas Okorie is not the former chairman of APGA. He is the chairman of a parallel faction of APGA
Off course the rigging machinery of pdp under ohakim will clinch victory for him.In a free and Fair election Ohakim will not smell 3rd judging from his perfomances in government. It is not by speeches but by actions. What are Ohakims achievements?
Actually I agree with you there but I only underestimated Obi's (not APGA's) power of orchestrating a massive rigging of that nature that is also very cleverly done.

Ngige is the victim of all that.

I will only maintain that PDP allowed that to play out because of their own internal reasons that has nothing to do with peace or decency.

Thank you my brother. Soludo himself has been saying in his campaign that the only way our people can get things out of the FG is through PDP.
Most people kept complaining that PDP is evil as if every other party is not.

Even if ndigbo present a canonized saint as APGA presidential candidate, nobody will vote that person outside the south east. It is just as simple as that.
More like he was saying that to whip up sentiments to garner votes for himself. You think the northern mallams will allow Soludo to become president after the rumor that they feel that that consolidation he engineerd did not favour the north?Let me tell the only igbo person that stands a chance of becoming president of nigeria through election selection is Ike Nwachukwu or Orji Uzor Kalu.

Well if that is how APGA hopes to capture the rest of South East then I am sorry that dream will not material anytime soon.

The rest of the world will not sit down forever and allow APGA have a field day with what they want forever. If you think South East is predominatly APGA I can only say you think that based on who you know and what their political ideologies are.

The cynical politics played by APGA in Anambra will not fly in the rest of SouthEast.
And the PDP politics played in imo state is sickening to say the least.

DatNiggaAk:
I have the feeling that if APGA/PPA controls he South East,
AC or AD (if it still exist) controls the South West,
ANPP holds sway in the North East,
the middle belt has it's own party and the North has it's own paRTY
Nigeria's democracy would grow and the economy will benefit.
one single party will not be dominant because the lower and upper houses will be composed of various parties and not a single majority.
electing a president will result in power sharing among the various parties and if any party pulls out of the power sharing agreement, that government will fall apart and new elections will have to be held.
that means, all the regions will be well taken care off.
each party will want to outdo the other in order to prove that their party is better.
this will lead to development and improvement in the standard of living of those in that region.
remember Awolowo back in the days and what he did in the western region?
he pushed that region forward educationally.
To me Awolowo days had little or nothing to do with regional parties but more to do with regional independence.
Politics › Re: Positive Tribalism by asha80(m): 11:49am On Feb 09, 2010
Shoot2Kill:
Tribalism is a colonial weapon which has been used to divide Africans. Nothing good comes from tribalism because instead of working together to make Nigeria better we are calling for a split.

The united states is made up of different people from all over the world but you see how every one who has US citizenship stands up to defend the USA. Take a look at the US army you will find arabs ,Africans, Europeans , Australians fighting in the US army and defending their country. Why is this so? Because the United States is built on unity and love of one another.

If we can be Nigerians first before being Yoruba, Igbo ,hausa ,Niger delta ,our country will be better off. It is because of tribalism that hausas in power do not want to relinquish power.

It is tribalism that led to the civil war, so nothing good come out of tribalism ,only violence and hatred.

I would rather see Nigerians compete against the world instead of amongst each other.
Though the poster is talkin rubbish the USA is not a good example to compare with nigeria
