Aliero to reintroduce Okada in Abuja
National News Feb 7, 2010 By Henry Umoru

ABUJA—MINISTER of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero is set to reverse the policy of his predecessor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai by bringing back to the streets of Abuja, commercial motor cycles popularly called ‘Okada’.

The Minister who spoke through the Secretary, Transport Secretariat of the FCTA, Segun Awolowo weekend in Abuja, explained that there was the need to re-introduce commercial motorcyclists into the city to encourage speedy economic growth.
huh

“Whatever we are doing, we must face the reality on ground because it is more economical to use Okada. Not all Nigerians can afford the luxury of paying for taxies”, he said. It would be recalled that El-Rufai on 1st October 2006 ordered all commercial motorcyclists out of the Federal Capital City, FCC, where he stated that they were constituting nuisance, making it difficult for people to drive well in a capital city that was competing favourably with other big cities of the world.

According to him, the sacking of Okada from the streets of Abuja would help reduce cases of accidents and crime rates. To make it work, as at January, 2007, the VIO impounded about 5,000 motorcycles, 2,255 motorcycles were seized in October, 396 in November and 450 in December 2006 while over 500 arrests were made in January 2007.

It is ok bro,  no my DAD was part of the Action Group in those days(I come from the Babaxxx family) My uncle was the Olora of Ekiti. To be honest with you my Dad never gave me the full details of why his house was burnt down, all he told me was that the people were against his affiliations in the party and decided to teach him a lesson. Ekiti people are kolo when it comes to politics.

No I was brought up in Lagos, i only visited Ekiti on holidays.

We are all fighting for the same things. I want to hear good news about Anambra not bad news. The more states that gets developed in Nigeria the better. Lagos and Abuja should not be the only ones receiving attention. Governors should be competing amongst each other trying to develop their states faster than other states. That way Nigeria will improve collectively.
For this to happen it is not by wish but to make the states independent or using the most common word 'control' their resources and pay taxes to the center so as to 'force' the governors to look inwards in finding finances and ways of developing the state. This issue of federal allocation is bulls**t and only encourages laziness.

Bro I did not mean it like, what i am saying is that he led IGBOS to fight against the north and it resulted in a senseless massacre that will forever haunt Nigeria and Nigerians. Is that the only thing he wants to be remembered for? Shouldn’t he all these years have done something more positive and violent free in IGBO land?

With the kind of clout he has in IGBO land he should have brought in investors and created jobs for IGBOS but he did not because he does not know how to go about it. On the other and there are many young IGBOS like yourself who have great ideas on how to move IGBO land forward and these are the people who should be at the forefront of IGBO leadership not OJukwu .Ojukwu is an Icon in IGBO land but he should not be a deciding leader because in this modern age he lacks the right ideas to move Igbo land forward just like Oni of ife or afeni fere lacks the ideas to move Yoruba land forward.

When I mention Ekiti ,I am talking about how the Ekiti people do not give a rat’s azz about their leaders. My father ran away from Ekiti in 1983 when his house and brother’s palace was burnt down by angry mobs.

By the way I resent your statement about some Ekiti politicians being cannibals, i did not insult Anambra citizens or IGBOs so please retract your statement, it was uncalled for.

My argument on this thread is for the best man to lead Anambra state or any state of Nigeria and for Nigeria to stop following the leaders of the old era. As long as we dwell on the past we will not be able to plan the future properly. It is the memories of the past and the divide and rule politics played on us by our older generation of politicians that have divided us along tribal lines.
Sorry about your dad's burnt house but aside was ur dad some kind of politician that went wrong?

Sorry about the cannibalistic statement.I just did not get the direction of your bringing up Ekiti. However the video i was talking about is in this nairaland.

As for Peter Obi believe me people that voted for him would have stiil gone for him with or without Ojukwu's endorsement. It is not like Ojukwu held agun ob peopll's head to vote for Obi.If for anything you have said to have mingled with igbos and your experience should let you know that igbos are generally independent minded so much so they they are tagged as being uncooperative with each other which is translated by others as being 'not united'.

I support sjeezy on this one.Dude take a look at Ekiti, you will realize that in Yoruba land there are no clear leaders. The fight in Yorubaland now is between the old generation and the younger generation.

We the young generation of Yorubaland refuse to bow to the older unintelligent generation and I hope the IGBOS will follow suite as this is the only way we can right the wrongs of the past and repair the tribal divisions that has plagued Nigeria.

Ojukwu may be alive but he represents the Old era of Nigeria that allowed the unjust massacre of IGBOs all in the name of power.
My comments show that i wish Anambra the best, I want Anambra and other states of Nigeria to have a Governor that is as good or even better than fashola so that the whole of Nigeria can develop and progress at a rapid rate.
I thought it is the Igbos that are regarded as not respectful to their elders  huh

Emperoh Olu i do not expect you to tow this line that Ojukwu allowed the massacre of igbos?Who massacred the igbos in northen nigeria in '66 i mean the progroms? It is Ojukwu right? Please choose your words carefully or maybe you do not have an idea of that part of nigeria's history.

By the way which ekiti? The same ekiti that is always in the news for barbarism, violence and some bits of cannibalistic behavouir from some of their Government functionaries as seen in a video once shared here on nairaland during the last elections?Abeg give me a break.

mikeansy:
This election is victory for Chris Uba and his theory of God Fatherism in Anambra State.

You know what? the message here to PDP is if you try to present credible men who want to make a difference, choose to campaign honestly and allow the people's vote count, others will fill the rigging void and capture your position.

There are reports of ballot box snatching in Onitsha, in that area Peter Obi got over 10,000 votes, Ngige got about over 3,000 and same as Soludo and somehow people still believe that the rigging was perpetrated by pdp in that area.

There is also a reason Peter Obi refused to conduct council polls all this while prefering to use self appointed caretakers in all the state councils. He has used this people effectively to control a rigging machinery as well as inducing voters in all councils and wards. So the whole presenting of Ojukwu on billboards while capable of swaying a few votes, it was mainly a diversionary tactics to conceal his real election plot.

Peter Obi did not bother to campaign because he probably has been disbursing money through his caretaker councillors to rig the election.

The INEC REC said that politicians intentionally altered the election register to deregister people who live in areas where they think their opponents may have strong support. Tell me what the names of Bola Ige, Gani Fawenhinmi and Fela are doing in the electoral registers of possible voters in the rural areas of Anambra?

I do agree that it is a missed opportunity for Anambra, don't want to speak too much but Anambra and Igbos as a whole will continue to come short in Nigeria's geopolitics if this is how we want to choose our leaders. Onitsha should be a centre of commerce . . . . . we can either choose to make it what it should be or continue to have it in its dead state so that we will forever have evidence of marginalization.

and on this occassion once again we have come short.
Who introduced Godfatherism in Anambra? Is it not Emeka Offor bankrolling Mbadinuju via PDP?Why are you lying?

Who told you Peter Obi did not campaign? Why are you spreading more lies?It kills your intergrity you know.

Onlytruth:
Does it ever occur to all these anti-Ojukwu campaigners here that Anambra people may have actually voted for their favorite candidate? The way I look at it, this election might actually signal the level of rigging that happened in earlier elections in my state. The previous elections might have been so massively rigged, that if they were fair, there would not even be any sign of other parties in Anambra state.

I would say this again, Anambra people are far more opinionated than other people in Nigeria. You don't lead them by the nose. So, if they elected Obi, they elected someone they can actually trust.

You cannot build heaven on pure lies, and Anambra people know he is lying to them. At least Peter Obi won't steal their money and they know it. So, everyone should respect our wishes here.
This i can vouch for from experience.

There are so many opportunities that was wasted in the just concluded Governorship Election in Anambra State.
1. INEC: They had an opportunity to conduct an election that will at least put them and the nation in a good light, but it was far from it.
2. Security: Despite putting thousands of Army, Police and others on ground, its like the plan was just to make their presence felt and prevent violence. There was no clear plan on there role in coordinating the movement of officials and materials.
3. The People of Anambra: They missed the opportunity to become one of the strongest economic centre in the nation. Dumping growth just to slight others. I hope Obi will adopt some of the policies of all the other candidates.
4. Reality: Yes many are missing reality, if one believe this is a credible election - over 50% could not find there name, elections started very late, etc.
5. We lost leadership in the person of Iwu. Yet he will see nothing wrong with this election. Hope they will pass a vote of confidence on him again

I will say congrats to Gov. Peter Obi, but this election is nothing to write home about.
How did anambrarians miss that?

Born and bred but at the same time a realist. I call a spade a spade and do not allow my patriotism to my country cloud my judgement. Nigeria has no clout, the world media affirms that everyday that passes. If we had clout, the world will not sit by while our leader is MIA. You think the French president will be missing for two weeks and the USA and Britain will keep quiet. If we had clout ,Nigeria will not be labelled a terrorist nation while a country like Yemen is not.

We don't mean squat in the world, to them we are as important as cockroaches who feed on dirt. We are perceived as parasites who infest foreign countries only to go and commit heinous crimes. The world sees us a nation of criminal minded barbarians and that is why they were bold enough to not only make the movie DISTRICT 9, name the Nigerian leader in the movie obasanjo but to drive their point home, they applauded the movie and nominated it for several awards. We are not famous ,we are infamous.

Do you think Hollywood can dare make a movie like that of china now that USA’s economy is limping and relying heavily on china to help it get back on it’s feet?

@Godalaone = I think you should check the term “internationally influential” before you start saying my comments have no connection with the subject.

When you talk of influential people, you talk of:

Nelson Mandela
Mahatma Gandhi
Martin Luther King Jr
Hosni Mubarak
Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan
Bill Clinton
Benjamin Netanyahu
Bill Gates
Chung Un-chan
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
King Abdullah Bin-Abd-al-Aziz Al Saud
Vladimir Putin
Silvio Berlusconi
Hu Jintao
Nicolas Sarkozy
At first bolded angry grin cheesy
