I dont know natin abt cross river state but am pretty sure those cross river community dat speaks igbo wd be boundary communities too.
U guys sed etches are igbos but I was in etche last month for a town hall meeting and I asked the chiefs and youths in etche if day were igbos, and day all denied being igbo even when it takes just 100 naira to move from etche to imo state. Why dont you guys let others claim to be igbos, why wd u be claiming oda ppl instead? Its just funny I swear. anambra has no boundary with akwa ibom so say something else |

The British were not stupid to establish coal mines in Enugu and a cement factory at Nkalagu.
We have been stupid ever since, allowing all this mineral wealth to lie fallow. haha I guess that is what easy (oil) money does..i also know there is limestone though of lesser extent in parts of northern abia(arochukwu to be precise) |

BuddahMonk: Well its true, SE is the onlly region in Nigeria where the natives control 90% of the economic activities.
Imagine in Benue they couldn't raise a billionaire that will be exploiting their solid minerals.
In Kogi an outsider is mining the minerals.
In Edo State outsider.
In ogun state outsider
Its only in Igboland that natives dominate both primary, secondary and tertiary industry.
Igbo wealth is in the hands of Igbos aswell. ebonyi is not only the part of igboland rich in.limestone....abia arochukwu axis is also rich (though lesser) in limestone |

HappyJoe: Why doesn't Dangote invest in the South East?
The simple answer is that it is the most competitive region in Nigeria.
What are Dangote's main businesses? Cement and commodities.
Ebonyi has about 720 million tons of limestone, but Ibeto has locked that in. He's unlikely to be able to compete with Ibeto here. Ask yourself, is there any Yoruba man competing with Dangote in the cement business? Any Kogi or Benue person? No.
Consider Rice, Dangote has rice farms in Edo and Sokoto. Doesn't really have a competitor, but when you get to the rice growing region on Anambra, you already have the likes of Coscharis there. Why would he want extra competition? that 720m tonnes sounds a bit too large though |

The truth is that Igbos fell for the systematic plot to suppress Igbos, as aftermaths of Biafran war.
Up till this minute, transportation is crippled in the East. It's a serious issue in whole Nigeria but it's worst in the East. Companies can easily move their products to distant cities and countries with good transport system. Every Region in Nigeria got international airport many years back, some even had two international airport, but south east is yet to have a true international airport. Onitsha-enugu Road is scary and nauseating, this a road that companies can easily use to move their products to onitsha commerce. Enugu-portharcourt Road is a nightmare. Railway is still far from being effective. The only effective seaport is in lagos and no plan to decongest it and help other region. we should blame ourselves for the state of Enugu Onitsha and Enugu ph expressway |

Hence the Estimated billing thing. But if they're able to ensure everyone gets the Prepaid meter, maybe then estimated billing might stop. Moreover, I've seen a house built and occupied by the State Governor's direct uncle who runs govt. Contracts plus other perks yet deviced a way to beat the prepaid meter thing. Won't share the method here. That's part of the problems DISCOs face andit backfires on both the TRAnSCOs and GENCOs We'll get there. no excuse for estimated billing nonsense. I should pay what consumed not what disco think I consumed...i don't care how the got the loan and if people are discovering how to subvert prepaid meters it is left for the technical partners of the discos to find the way to stop it..i should not be made to pay 13000naira estimated billing when a neighbour that has almost the same gadgets as me uses only 4k prepaid card..Na for Nigeria we go dey give excuse for illegality and outright thievery |

Abagworo: Owerri mall nearing completion.
http://newsafricanow.com/2015/09/owerri-mall-nears-completion-opens-in-november/
BARRING any last minute hitches, the Owerri Mall located at the old Somachi Park near the Imo State University will open in November. Coming as a joint venture involving Resilient Africa, Somachi Investments, Terrestrial Real Estate and Median Infrastructure Development Company Limited. The gross lettable area is 9,800 square metres and marketed by Broll Nigeria, the sole letting agent. The shop sizes range between 20-450 square meters and under a minimum two years lease period.
Speaking during a tenants’ forum and a press briefing at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos last week, senior officials of Resilient Africa disclosed that 65 per cent of the mall has been leased out and initial opening day is slated for November.
As part of its commitment to ensure tenants adapt to the environment, the first set of tenants have been offered ‘beneficial occupation’ from end of this month, which is the rent free period allowed the tenants to fit-out their shops is between 30-60days depending on the shop size. According to the chief operating officer, Resilient Africa, Eddie McDonald, the lowest annual rent is pegged at N3, 600,000 and available for 42 shops, excluding Shoprite who is the anchor tenant.
Construction work is nearing completion on the Shoprite Box and will be handing over the premises soon for internal fit-out. The whole project is within finishing phase where services are being installed, these include sprinklers, HVAC and Bulkheads within the shops and in the mall. Service charge will cover the expenses in refuse removal, security, air conditioning running and maintenance. Others are building amenity cost, towel and toiletry services, cost of maintaining indoor and outdoor plant, landscaping cost, maintenance contracts, cost of redecoration and planting as well as the salaries and wages of the management and maintenance staff engaged by the landlord amongst others.
The Portfolio Executive, Broll Nigeria Limited, Yohan Blom, explained that a total investment of $150m had been committed so far to three malls in Nigeria namely Warri, Owerri and Asaba adding that the major objective of the Resilient Africa’s initiative was to provide a world class shopping experience. The parking capacity of the Werra mall is 536 slots. all the short cut rds that meets the egbu road that this owerri mall is situated need rehabilitation as they are dilapidated now |

VickJames: I got an info from someone and he told me it is very possible. This person is trusted and has his hand on infos in Abia state government. There's a confluence in the east called the blue-river. This confluence river is quite deep and when dredged further, it will be able to accommodate ships. I am not say our governors should do it, if we can do it in partnership with the chinese, I'm telling you, we will go far. Moreover, this confluence river is closer to the sea than the 50 and 45mile cross river and portharcourt seaports.
This is a matter of opening our region and let substantial activity run through it. We will be able to connect major sea-faring countries with this attempt thereby opening more markets for us. This is pure business and empowerment. you said 'when dredged further'? Isn't that supposed to mean constant dredging would have to be done? Or is it going to be done once? Remember the talk here is ocean liners and not large barges |

To what effect is such arguement if nothing can be done to change it? You can suggest how to encourage friendly alliance to assure Alwa Ibom that we shall use their Ibaka port if they build it. All those lake ideas and Suez Canal are just academic exercise simple...that is why I have not bothered contributing to the discourse..i mean isn't it obvious that big ocean liners that birth in apapa Lagos can only birth in a deep sea area of which that ibaka or is it ibeno axis csn accommodate? Even ph and warri cant seem to do that because they need to constantly dredged..likewise calabar...obuaku I dare say will probably be for large barges and would probably need constant dredging for ocean liners |

It's kind of hard to separate the two. I am not sure how hard it is to separate the two..that was how it was then does not mean that is how it is supposed to be now..it is like saying if price of crude crashes to an all time low that countries that have crude as their natural resource would no longer refine crude for domestic consumption.. I dont think there is a rule that coal exploration must be or have a percentage for export Obiagelli: Pure selfishness, other regions provide the electricity we use today. Politics › Re: Reviving Enugu State's Coal Production by asha80(m): 9:43am On Sep 20, 2015 |
pazienza: I think the problem with Enugu coal deposits is that it's not in enough quantity as to generate real profits via direct raw exporting.
If I am right, Enugu has a proven reserve of 49 million metric tonnes of coal reserves and further unproven 111million reserves.
Well Australia with proven reserve of about 76 billion billion tonnes( Being the 4th in the world) exported 154million tonnes of metallurgical coal in the 2012-2013 financial year and earned 22billion Australia dollars and 182 metric tonnes of thermal coal exports earned her 16 billion USD in the same financial year.
So in total, she exported 336metric tonnes of coal in the 2012-2013 financial year and earned 38billion Australia dollars.
This 336million tonnes is already more than the combined 160 million tonnes of proven and unproven reserves of Enugu.
So, unless we discover other coal reserves in Enugu and Igboland in general, direct export of coal as is done with crude oil will never fetch us enough money in the modern world. the op is talking about using it for power plants in east not necessarily not for export |

Op I've never made any studies into this coal business but from what you posted you're making me understand a mere $1.5mil can make a huge difference. Quite an eye opener. I believe the state will have to look into this.
An off grid license can be granted to companies that wishes to generate power and use it in a particular area. I think I read one publication where LarFarge Group was seeking such.

menabadoo: fellow easterner or enugu electricity distribution company? Its still some how connected to govt policy.
Even if they decide to generate electricity from the coal mine, distribution will be a very big problem because enugu disco must bring their ugly head before any other body. bigfrancis21: What actually happened? FG in 2005 carved out aba aba and ariaria district under Enugu distribution zone for geometric to build ,generate and distribute electricity within that carved out district...geometric finished building the power plant ready to power around 2 yrs ago..however owner of geometric barth nnaji was also power minister then and had to resign when privatization of discos commenced because a consortium which geometric was part of was bidding for Enugu disco..long and short of it is that he lost the bidding and the bid was won by Emeka offor led interstate for Enugu disco...now instead of interstate to respect the 2005 agreement of the carved out aba ana ariaria zone he sat on that agreement (due to his connection with the then vp sambo who was chairman of power privatization commitee)..nnaji's geometric power lost a lot of money due to lack of servicing of loans used for building the plant since it was not allowed to work..now the vp is no longer on seat due to change in leadership..what happens next? Bpe now realizes that geometric was supposed to power the aba district and now ordered Enugu disco run by interstate to hand over aba district to geometric (now afrigem since afrigem has bought over majority shares in geometric aba to cover for up for lost funds due to defaulting loans).. Interstate now goes to court to get an injunction stopping the handover...bpe now says it can no longer handover that aba power to geometric/afrigem due to the fact that the case is now in court http://businessdayonline.com/2015/07/nerc-bpe-validate-rights-of-geometric-over-aba-disco/http://businessdayonline.com/2015/09/bpe-compels-enugu-disco-to-handover-aba-ring-fence-to-apl/http://businessdayonline.com/2015/09/bpe-fails-to-hand-over-aba-ring-fence-to-geometric/ |
