OBAGADAFFI:AIT was largely unbiased before (Though No one's perfect). Channels tv has been good too. A lot of radio outfits in Portharcourt like lovefm and Nigerian info have played by the rules for a long time as well. |
TooMuchStuff:In many ways, he is still the Ted Turner of Nigeria. Although ted, with his very controversial tendencies, would hardly have allowed for a clearly malicious documentary to be run frequently on his platform by politicians. Ted was more news, objective news Without opinions until he sold out. AIT/Raypower was so too until Mr Dokpesi became unexplainably political. He lost it there. Gbenga Aruleba to me is one of the most forthright/Objective political media personality Nigeria has ever had. Where's his programme on AIT? AIT can't say they don't know where they lost it ? they can't. |
LuciferMessiah:Sir, You say that " these beast can waste their brother therefore who are you" . Correct. But you had earlier written : " Proof that the north Nigeria supports terrism". Isn't it contradictory? Do people kill those who finance them? If they do, who then continues to finance them? The villagers in the footage are clearly beseiged and probably traumatized. Are they (in that state) also sponsoring their captors? Haven't the North suffered the Most from Boko haram's terror activities in Nigeria ? There hasn't been up to 3 terror attacks in Nigeria, outside the North Central/North East/North West zones. God willing, there wouldn't be any. Who sponsors a cause for which it losses the most over the last 8+ years. As southerners, if you have any effective clue of a particular individual(s) sponsoring this terror you could help by speaking up. This North this., North that does not help at all. it probably makes us/you more of a bigot than the Northerners you seek to project the same way. The "North" constitutes a group of over 50 million people (maybe more/less). Are all these people sponsoring Boko Haram to you? |
seeker121:There's no skill like freelancing. Freelancing is a generic description for contract work for others, usually remotely, in a wide array of areas/jobs in anything from graphic designs to script writing to Excel to application development etc. The key to being a freelancer is to adopt an area of expertise you are Keen on focusing on, deepen your skills in that area through courses (online/offline), read up on current trends in that area while sharpening your professionalism to deal with clients effectively. After the above, you may then signup on freelancing sites like upwork, Fiverr and when you're thoroughbred expert maybe toptal to provide services. You'll soon start seeing contract/work proposals from various clients across the world to get jobs done. from here on out it's your expertise/reliability that'll see you rise/grow. The internet is replete with sites where you can get top-notch trainings in any number of areas to world-class levels. Cheers. |
gypsey:Who's 72 here ? "How much time do they still have"? I'm not God, you tell me if you know. They did not intentionally set out to have children in their "older" years. Circumstances caused this. Again, when does a man stop trying to have what he wants? It's not too different from suggesting that one soft pedals in finding economic success when S/he becomes advanced in age say 65-68yrs since he would have little time to enjoy his success. |
tiwiex:Android OS is over ? how? But no Mobile OS came to rival the iOS besides blackberry (also a closed OS). Google offered the only open source alternative then. They (google) still don't force themselves on OEMs now though. They (OEMs) can still opt for tizen, Sailfish and other fringe Mobile OSs. I suspect they know those wouldn't sell. But if they must challenge google they must take the leap. |
tenisinger:How? Google aided the ascent of virtually all non iPhone smartphones. I use a xiaomi and while they (xiaomi) could create an Os for themselves is it very hard to think they'd have done [as well as they have] without Google's precedence(with Android). |
HeWrites:Really ? Can you distinguish between Chinese and Taiwanese facially ? |
gypsey:"They will die soon" ? really? Do you intend to kill them? Granted, people are more predisposed to death by age related ailments as they grow older, but even this is not guaranteed. Anyone can die before anyone. In other words, a 4 yr old can very easily die before a 58 yr old. although it looks so, young people aren't guaranteed a long life. No. Genetics, lifestyle choices and quality of living all impact the length of one's life, barring any sudden accident/Murder. With proper management of the above factors(Genetics aside), one can live very well into one's 90s barring Fatal accidents/Murder. It definitely helps to be Moneyed too. but even that's not a guarantee if those factors aren't maintained. Life is not certain for the young. Death's not necessarily immediate for the Old too. at least not for all. |
dokyOloye:Bayelsa is not completely homegenous, or is it ? Are all Bayelsans really Ijaws? |
Favor99:I agree with you partially BUT recognizing our individuality is not mutually exclusive to developing technologies/IT. Both can happen side by side. Some of these Nations are much more ethnically homogeneous than Nigeria. otherEuropean Nations much less diverse than Nigeria have had their fair shares of ethnic fights too. What is wrong is the flimsy penchant for TRIBALISM by many Nigerians when it suits them. Recognizing tribal differences is natural and can't easily be put away (A lot of tribes can be identified by their facial attributes/stature or accent. this can hardly be changed). Tribalism as discrimination is what's bad. Most Nigerians given to tribal discrimination online can never, for Instance, [not apply to a company owned by an individual of a tribe they hate] or [Not sell goods to a member of a tribe they hate] or [Not enter a commercial vehicle driven by a member of a tribe they hate]. You see the pattern? Their tribal discrimination ends where their commercial interests/convenience begin. This is the height of hypocrisy. A true tribal hater should go the long haul, shouldn't S/he ? I'll be very interested to see a true discriminatory tribalist (hater) Not apply for a job for tribal reasons, not do business(at his loss) for tribal reasons, not travel to states (even for beneficial reasons) for tribal reasons. that's a true hater (tribalist). The typical Nigerian tribal hater is a selective hater (Hater by convenience). they don't mind being on a forum created by a person of a tribe they hate or being employed by a company owned by a person of a tribe they hate. they only hate when it's comfortable (usually on faceless forums or on some social media pages). My take: True TRIBALISM would stunt you(fake haters know this already). break free from it. Our diversity confer on us more advantages as a Nation by harnessing the proclivities and perculiarities of the different groups. |

ednut1:Hahahahahaha! really funny these guys! Serious man at times though. |
emkz:Exactly. In Nigeria we think Corporate governance = good suits, ties and plush headquarters. Where a company has an overbearing CEO and an unbalanced board (i.e without, at least an equal number of Independent directors as other directors) forget it. its just a matter of time before power is abused and effective Corp. governance is thrown out. What I don't get (I don't know the full story yet) is why these guys don't just run a private company where they can do the what they like. They go public and yet want to have an unfair advantage over other shareholders even though they have a fair advantage already. |
Okoyeebows:I don't totally disagree with your assessment of the Nigerian stock exchange but some of the information you've passed as certain here are TOTALLY wrong. others are, at best, total speculation. For one, Gbenga Oyebode is not currently the Chairman of Access bank that would be Mrs. Mosun Belo-Olusoga. Secondly you said "The banks they obtained the loan from know this but they don't care. They would willingly take over mtn like they did to Etisalat." Really? A bank ? Intentionally taking up a would-be non performing loan — to prey on the collateral carcasses? The way we as Nigerians seem to "know all these things" totally beats me. No investigative pedigree, no sources, no facts, wrong assertions pieced together + personal Imaginations and Boom! we have a story! God help us. |
MrPresident1:hahahaha! Except that with a market capitalization of US $6bn, a 25 % ownership would translate to US$1.5bn not 1bn. and yes it's a big difference. hahahahaha! |
distributeinc:But those Nations contribute over 85% of the UN's budget. it is against typical human nature to not expect those who support a thing— for the "thing" to act primarily, at least in their(the primary contributors) best interest FIrst! I am not saying this is good. I am saying that's sadly how this capitalist world works for now. |
dermmy:You are right on the negatives of unilateral actions by powerful countries. quite sad. But this is hardly surprising. the US and its citizens make (proportionally) the most contributions to the operations of the UN. not that this should make them(UN) fully under the control of the US but it is hard to expect anything different from this world where "those who pay the Piper dictate his tunes". The world would need to ensure a more balanced UN supported by a more balanced structure (rather than a lopsided one) in order to then EXPECT more balanced global interventions. |
dermmy:Seeing there has not been any World wars since (1945) world war II (a primary reason for the formation of the UN), In that sense, it'll be unfair to say that the UN has "Failed". Avoiding international skirmishes between/amongst various countries is almost Impossible— it's like preventing Senior secondary students in Government schools from engaging in fights. I agree totally with your take on the UN's role BUT the fact that we (the world) and the UN have been able to avert (until now) any major World-war scale violence is no mean feat. the UN would spread itself too thin if it keeps chasing any/every potentially violent situation around the world. |
There's something I cannot yet place about this attire that makes a person appear more "Moneyed" in it. |
Bobbybrwon:I see your point but then it goes both ways. 5 yrs increases the chances of correcting early mistakes and still graduating with a first class(based on the units of courses offered). 4 yrs limits the room for errors throughout your stay in school if you're to graduate with a first. I am not saying you don't have a point. Yes, many years can mean sustaining many pains — for long as an aspiring first class student. Close your eyes and try imagining a student on a 4.48/4.46 CGPA on a 4 yr course— in his last semester. I'll bet he'd be ready to extend his stay by a session and put in all required to finish with a 4.5. whereas his friend, on a 5 yr course, on the same CGPA, has exactly that Opportunity by default. you see? |
vizkiz:I hope not but by traditional education standards, it looks so. However, Thank goodness education has moved beyond the traditional structural barriers to access. Consequently, the average Nigerian can now know/do (educationally) what we were unable to do in the Nation's history. It appears that if traditional education tries to hold us back, it'll be doomed itself. |
9jaRealist:Brilliant responses sir. Sadly, most of us here(Nigerians) would rather argue with sentiments against your points than put forward counter facts to disprove what you've pointed out. On a lighter note you should consider starting up a finance/economics blog that talks about — in lay terms — economic/financial issues in the country that would appeal to the laity, drive financial literacy, financial inclusion AND quite frankly, make you money too. |
Pr0cter:Hahaha! I can very much relate. Not funny though. You're clearly a power user and should really consider a Semi-Enterprise grade subscription. The likes of the 40 to 60 GB. @ around 15-30k. maybe even 100Gb @ 35k+. It's much more cost effective on the long-run. |
EVILFOREST:If by "they" you mean the government, I'll say many. perharps hundreds(e.g. see the Libya repatriation Saga over the last year)— it'll be hard to argue that a lot of these (Libya) victims aren't southerners . The Saudis too should be commended for being reasonable and finally yielding. You'll be surprised, if you don't know, that most drug related suspects are killed in South asian countries like Indonesia/ the philipines NOT because of lack intervention by their home country governments BUT because of the unyieldingness of the captor Countries. Success in this case should be commended, but lack of success in other cases is NOT always due to a lack of diplomacy efforts. P.s. I am NOT a Northerner/Muslim. |
Gerrard59:He said "are not always". Meaning he reckons most of them are but that there are others who are motivated/talented, BUT who didn't make a First or aTwo-one. Some public examples are David Neeleman of JetBlue/Azul, Tune group's Tony Fernandes, Vizio's David Chang, Nigeria's Tony Elymelu and a host of others. Now, I am in no way endorsing unseriousness in one's edu. pursuits but the Op has clearly identified his mistakes, made corrections(as can be seen by the pgd results) and is raring to go. This is VERY important. GRE = Key I hear. This Op is clearly driven. He'll do well. |
Dottore:Actually a good number perharps (in the) tens to hundreds of Nigerians (I dare say many 'Christians'—since some emigrated from a south-south state) have been released almost every other month in countries like Libya. A lot more work needs to be done in our diplomacy I guess. until recently, they were brought home in batches. P.s. I am a Christian. |
ednut1:hahaha. Sir, but Most degrees don't give us anything "exactly". Degrees(and the education acquired by them) create platforms for us by enhancing one's skills/Knowledge. whatever one does on that platform is hardly their (the institution's) concern. degrees also demonstrate commitment. Emigration is usually an effective option though. |
Ziel20:I doubt it. he is being facetious. There are people who never draw any line to be facetious. |
maryjames9:Fintech cannot soon take over traditional banking role. I foresee even the most successful fintech company in the Nigerian space to be a subsidiary of a top tier bank and not necessarily a standalone startup. Banking = Trust, a bank can collapse in two weeks (maybe one) Based on perception of unreliability which has not been confirmed. Banks are lucrative but very fickle. I don't think ANY startup in Nigeria right now can operate FULL commercial banking services as a fintech company yet. none. Trust is built gradually over years of demonstrable reliability not the fly by night "innovative" flashiness of startups today. Success in banking still relies on good old trust/reliability and face to face communication (for the High Networth Individuals ) NOT technical chops of a tech startup who haven't yet convinced their family to bank with them . I think It (the fintech startup) has to garner trust, demonstrate dependability, carve a niche market and grow as a specialized Non-bank financial institution first. |
[quote author= post=77955536]You can start by eating your people at home. Before you eat 4 family members thigh and buttocks, you will be arrested and sent to where you belong! Cannibal!![/quote]Eating doesn't always mean cannibalism. It implies (I guess) extreme desperation everywhere, caused by heightened competition between a growing lot of people for limited resources. A huge crowd jostling for very limited buses/cabs after working hours most evenings, Huge crowd queued up on a typical job aptitude test(Remember Immigration Saga), Job/Employment desperation that drives vulnerable people into the waiting hands of scammers and exploitative masters. Overstretched public school Systems (Primary through University) , Overwhelmed public health care centres and an almost non-existent Mortgage system (Creating a lot of draconian landlords (there are good ones, I know) feeding on desperate housing situation) Desperation drives people to extremely unthinkable behaviours (both the desperate people themselves and those out to "assist" them), including crimes. That is what is referred to as "eating ourselves". It is not only something eating your flesh that's eating you. Surrounding situations affecting one's quality of life caused by competitive desperation can also be interpreted as eating ourselves. |
