Somethings may be bad but everything is definitely not bad for today's kids/people.
For one, information explosion. Democratisation of skills, better access to finance, social media(granted , a 2 edged sword), globalisation and improved enlightenment has made for an easier world to live in.

Primacy bias makes people always think the past was always better.
The past was only better to the extent that fewer choice meant fewer vices. Today, many choices presented by the innovations above has brought with it more vices.

One does not need the gift of clairvoyance to know there is no future in fossil fuel.Your biggest customers will not need it anymore so tell me the need to keep investing in its value chain. You are talking of alternative uses that cant fetch any reasonable fx to keep the country running. Well typical of africans, that future unprepared for even if it is 150 years will hit you within a twinkling of an eyes and you will be thoroughly exposed.
Ok. But You didn't answer the questions of CURRENT technical limitations and financial viability of Electrical Vehicles.

e.g. Can ANY family in ANY part of Africa(Perharps the world) today currently survive totally/exclusively on EVs yet? Can the average family afford the same?

Depending on how volatile an industry is, what constitutes your largest customers could change quite easily.
Across the world, the emergence of e-commerce was supposed to decimate the Postal services industry, Today, it appears to be its largest customers.

How many companies in the world do you reckon are up to 150 years in their original forms?

Naturally, a company would have to evolve, oil or no oil.
Are you prescient enough to know that the alternative uses would not be abundant enough? I am not though. I am not against EVs or I am not necessarily in support of Big oil I am just saying that if 'green' alternatives present themselves as technically superior and financially viable alternatives, people would rush to them. they don't have to give oil a bad name in other to sell themselves.
Sell on the value of you not only on the demerit of another. that's more sustainable.

Over the last 12 years gas companies have sold themselves as better alternatives to firewood & kerosine to women(more like a more upwardly mobile lifestyle alternative). The penetration of cooking is growing rapidly BUT are there women who still use kero? Of course. Is it cheaper? Definitely (as at today). when gas becomes cheaper to use you don't have to tell those women to change.

Again selling on one's own merit is a more effective/sustainable strategy more often than not. Let customers/markets be the judge.

Your education is not a waste.I guess Dangote is targeting fertilizer cos fossil oil has no future.
Fossil oil has no future? I don't know what future means 10/20 years? I doubt it. 30/50 years? maybe.

I am not at all an expert but what's the proportion of EVs to total Cars in the world over the last 10 years? How many people currently own just EVs? how viable is the most cost effective long-range EVs over it's life cycle?

Is the Issue of range anxiety still prevalent among EVs?

In gas for instance what's the gas use penetration rate in Nigeria? How is the Huge demand for energy/power from EVs use going to be filled sustainably (greenly)?

Are there other potentially useful applications for fossil fuel derivatives not currently obvious ?

When the cost of fossil fuel drops, without government interventions/taxes, would it become more cost effective to to generate Power from fossil fuels?

Again I don't know the answer(s) to these but I have the feeling these would shape the economic viability of the 'greener' alternatives.
At the end of the day, it looks like economics is usually right.

Exactly. Actually Racism is, as bad as it is, just the unlucky Scapegoat. Other forms of prejudice e.g (Tribalism, lookism, classism etc) are more common in Nigeria and around the world. For instance, the average black person in Africa today may never experience Racism but he'll see the other ills many times over without leaving his country.

He is not talking like a 12-year old. I know I will be abused but Nigeria has a population of 200million. The market for meat pie is large enough. If one must sell something abroad, at least let it be something reasonable.

Nigerians should read 48 Laws of power. I support donstan18
I don't know the full details of her legal status nor the legality of her selling at that spot BUT this I know. THERE IS NO OBJECTIVE standard for REASONABLE in business. Every business has its place.

One could become wildly rich/satisfied from selling Meat pie as from selling crude oil(which by the way has a bad reputation in some other parts of the world).

My point: The Nigerian tendency for demeaning a legal business based on the perceived 'status' of what it sells is unhealthy.

The US Business man Howard Schultz became a Wildly successful business man selling 'ordinary' coffee.

The Wrigley Company in the US makes over $5 bn in Revenues by selling mostly 'ordinary' sweet/chewing gum employing over 10000 people. How many Nigerian companies can top that?

If anyone wants to found a 'status' business curing cancer goodluck to him/her. I really hope he/she succeeds for the world. BUT someone selling ordinary 'buns' can be, in Business terms, just as successful as you if not more.
please Consider.

The North always lead while other regions follow. This is why, the North will always determine who rules this Country. grin
The North do not ALWAYS determine who rules the country though. that's a Mistake many make.
Actually No single region can— singlehandedly— determine who wins a presidential election by supporting a particular candidate.

There has to be an alignment by at least 2 Major groups and maybe a few other groups, it seems.

Don't take my word for it Consider that in 2011, despite an Overwhelming support from both the NE and NW GZs (North Central numbers were not that substantial) the current President failed to win the elections. He was only able to win after soliciting the support of another Major group in the Country (SW).

It's a mistake many still make. In other words, contrary to widely held opinions, the North does not win general elections on ITS OWN. Winning support from other groups appears to be the more effective strategy.

P.S. This Analysis assumes that the practice of ethnic/regional sentiments continues to be widespread in our voting patterns(Not that I think it is right).

Corrinthians:
I would cut straight to the chase here because I have never felt so appalled by such brazen display of HATE in my whole life.

The 2019 elections have come and gone, and expectedly, there are the victors and the losers, and those whose mighty egos have been bruised, somewhat irreparably. Unfortunately, those who pride themselves as the beacons of literacy and civility have been the ones displaying the worst signs of barbarism and illiteracy.

A video has emerged of a guy, presumably an Atiku/Obi supporter, rebuffing a beggar who approached him, simply because the beggar is of Northern origin! More surprising than the brazen display of hate towards a destitute, are the comments which have trailed the video, especially on this forum. To those who seem to applaud the callous and shameful display of RAW HATE, the beggar deserves it because they aided the reelection of Buhari.

Now, the following questions arise, and these are questions a human with the heart and brain of a human, should ask themselves.

1. Majority of those who claim the election was a sham and that the actual winner is Atiku/obi, what more evidence does one need to prove they dont believe themselves when they say that?

If indeed you believe Atiku/obi won the election, isnt it then likely that AT LEAST 40% of those northerners voted them? We are talking about millions of people here. Allow that sink for a moment.

Therefore, if millions of those people did vote Atiku/obi, then, chances are there's a healthy probably that person towards whom you are directing your hate actually voted the same candidate you voted!!! How then do you justify your HATE for him?? Can you see how hate blinds reason?

2. If you claim Atiku/obi won but rigged out, what exactly concerns a beggar with rigging? Would someone who rigged an election be on the streets bagging? Do you think any of those people seen in those disgusting videos where folks were thumb printing rims after rims of ballot papers would have anything doing in the streets begging? Do the people you saw in those videos look anything like these beggars to you?

3. We take pride in our religion as Christians and those who are seen applauding the barbaric act are same folks who claim to be Christian's and speak of some phantom islamization agenda. Now, what I would like to ask is, what part of our religion encourage such acts of wickedness and hate? Isnt LOVE itself the greatest virtue of Christianity? Or is there some other brand of Christianity out there which we are oblivious of?

As a matter of fact, both frontline contenders to the office are from THE SAME REGION AND RELIGION, so why have we chosen to become so embittered by the loss of one of them? Or is the reaction born more out of Obi's defeat than it is Atiku's?

We thought we had seen it all as per the hate these folks are capable of after jonathan's loss, but from what we are seeing, it is instructive that we the good citizens of this country brave ourselves for the worse. Unfortunately, those pushing us to the precipice happen to be the most dispersed people across this country. There is hardly any corner of the country where you dont find their kith and kin doing business. What then do they think would be the fate of their loved ones if shiit hits the fan? What exactly is there to gain from this show of shame?

The APC endured opposition for sixteen long years under which period they suffered needless damages and oppression by agents of the state. We never saw them demonstrate such vileness. Why then is it so difficult for the pdp and her supporters to stomach just FIVE YEARS of opposition? Had the supporters of APC acted the way we see these guys act today, would there really be any country left to scramble over today? What is there to gain from burning down a country to whose leadership you aspire? Are you planning on ruling over her ashes?

I think it is time the government of the day uses all the resources within her powers, especially with the incoming NASS, to bring some sanity into the social media space before it consumes the country. China is doing it and heavens have yet to fall!!! As a matter of fact, one is tempted to think Nigerians aren't civilised enough to have access to social media if the things we see there every day is anything to go by. Ironically, the people who boast of being civilised are the ones pushing the boundaries of hate on the internet!

There should be a clampdown on those propagating hate in whichever form. If they can't learn to accept defeat like civilised humans do, then they should have no business having their inflammable opinions broadcasted to the general public. Let them keep that pollution to their nuclear families. angry angry

Thank you.
I don't know if the Op is being partisan here BUT these are excellent points. Hard to refute.

There's a high chance that many of us, no matter how seemingly hard we work, would not be able to support a severely sick relative. particularly with long-term debilitating ailments.
You hear of demands on social media for support where an individual requires #XyzmillionNaira for an ailment.(This is besides the money already spent by the family over the months/years before the public requests).

It's one reason why one needs to be grateful daily because there are extremely few of us that can afford to care for a terminally ill relative without other's support.

Trust me no one would normally desire to reach out to the public for assistance unless he/she is hard pressed.

The bolded is very true.

NUC & NBTE need to add some new courses into Nigerian higher institutions and only few private schools should be allowed to run them, courses like:

1.) Software engineering

2.) Cyber security

3.) Biomedical engineering

4.) Robotics

5.) Welding & Fabrication Engineering

6.) Digital Marketing

7.) CNC lathe operation & manufacturing technology

8.) Computer Programming & Coding

9.) STEM engineering

These courses urgently needs to be added to Nigerian school curriculum as they will help boost Nigeria's economy.
There's nothing like STEM Engineering.
No. 1 and 2 are very closely related perhaps they should stand as 1 course.

No. 5 & 7 are clearly an unnecessary duplication.

Should one go to school to study No. 6? can't it be a module in a Marketing/BA programme?

Isn't No. 8 = No. 1?

There are no absolute Lucrative course(s).
All currently seemingly lucrative or non lucrative courses are enjoying or suffering from such things as;

•Barriers to entry.
•Total admissible slots in all Nigerian Universities.
•Administrative professional requirements(or lack of it) by the professional bodies on these programs.
• Current economic situation/policies.(Demand and supply of certain skills)
•Societal literacy and enlightenment.
•Rule of law and prevalence of Justice.

Any course that thinks it is indeed lucrative should expand the admissible slots for its programmes in Nigerian schools, limit professional requirements (i.e. make them optional not obligatory and allow the flotation of competing professional bodies in its industry) and liberalize its activities.

I am not advocating for less standards though(there can be a middle ground) BUT scarcity heightens value. and THAT is the game any so called 'Lucrative' profession plays above all.

Some extra curricula activities are more beneficial and relevant to what people study in school. Reasons like what you are supporting is why most student don't take advantage of the strike to study and make better grades. Why learn make up when you can learn computer networking or programming as an engineering student. Don't be surprised to see that such a person will still graduate poorly or go back to struggle with academic works they could have studied during their strike.
Sorry to say. But you are making one sided assumptions here. I love reading but you don't have to read ALL THROUGH a 2 month strike to be excellent in school.

The said programming you highlighted now has been commoditized (with every Tom, Dick and Harry trying their hands at it) i.e. anyone can decide to do it too.
By the way no one can be anywhere good in this if he/she just pursues the craft during this short strike break.

You seem to have a narrow impression of worthy endeavors to pursue in life. I used to too but soon discovered that it is myopic.

The point I am making is that we(you are very educated/enlightened) should never think that certain endeavors are higher and should be pursues to the exclusion of other seemingly lowly ones.

Everyone, or anyone can become wildly successful and yes rich in any endeavour be it making confectioneries or making highly complex healthcare electronic equipments.

There are few things one can pursue during a strike break that everyone cannot decide to do.

By the way the whole idea of higher things is at the root of many problems in the country.
The idea that some professions are beneath a certain status/class is a very dangerous perception to have.
It is not the perceived excellency of status in a profession that matters, it is the excellence a practitioner puts into his chosen vocation that yields success.
