It took me....decades to realize the purpose of school is to acquire knowledge in order to make informed decisions and not to carry papers. I am studying for PhD now and I enjoy learning and doing my work...this has also translated to personal life choices, tracking news and trends, analyzing data, picking the right investments and so on...if you don't immerse yourself into the true essence of learning, education will be useless to you.

It helps to be in a state (one's background) or a society (one's country) where basic needs aren't immediately pressing on the individual to satiate learning.

The state of basic need makes everything else seem farfetched.

SE states massively voted for OBJ (Yoruba) & Yaradua (Hausa) in 2003 & 2007 respectively against prominent Igbo Sons like Ojukwu, Rocha's Okorocha, Orji Uzo Kalu (who even as a governor lost in his state) .

Obi's win in Lagos in February is the first time in Nigeria's recent history that a SE candidate won in a SW state & the results hasn't even sank in for many Yorubas who feel 'cornered'.

Again, Nigeria doesn't necessarily have to have the most degreed president. Spare us that. Obi also doesn't have to be the President but degrees aren't the core of leadership.

Even at Governorship/Ministerial levels, we've seen all Professionals:

Medicine : Odili, Okowa, Uduaghan.
Engineers: Seyi Makinde, Kwankwanso, Umayi.
Professors/PhDs: Good luck, Ben Ayade, (Soludo is still new),
Accountants: Emmanuel Udom, Ajumobi, Ambode,
Media professionals: Osoba,.
Quantity Surveyors: Sanwolu & El Rufai.
Legal practitioners: Fashola, Godswill Akpabio, Wike Nyesom.

Unfortunately, Nigeria continues to slope downhill.

Character/ meritocracy are the real needs.
