[img][/img]LATEST UPDATE ON PTDF APPLICATION
.
1. Those who chose any Germany school should only just register on DAAD website preferably on or before February 5th. Do not do anything else on the DAAD website as PTDF will secure admission if successful.

2. There will be either interview or aptitude test for MSc and interview for PhD candidates. So prepare very well. You are also required to have your transcripts ready if successful to the next stage

3. You can choose one country if you desire however it will make sense to choose three different universities and courses so your won't be restricted.

4. You can edit your application after submitting. But make sure that you click submit again to update your details

5. The deadline of application is February 5th, 2018 and might not be extended. Please take note.

I feel your pain bro. This is one of the reason I'm not applying for Fall 2018 but Spring 2019. I know getting a well written recommendation within the next 3 weeks from any Nigerian lecturer talk less of Prof is a daunting task.

If you are living in the university town you graduated from then go to those lecturers with your laptop and modem. You could even prepare a sample of the recommendation letter yourself and politely show it to them to make the whole thing quick and less-frustrating.
This seems to be the best approach... Meanwhile, my main ref who is a foreign educated prof doesn't take time to complete his recommendations. I submitted application on a Friday, by Sunday he's completed it and even called me. Meanwhile I didn't even inform him. But the others, I've sent reminders, several calls and messages. And they will always promise, tomorrow, when I get home, when I get to the faculty... Lol. Later, excuses, busy, no light, etc... Na God go help me o.

I can't still fathom the why Nigerian university lecturers won't complete a simple online recommendation asap. Always giving funny excuses and one is against deadlines. Phewwww cry

Jobs/VacanciesRe: N-power Is The Employability And Enhancement Programme Of The Federal Government by athorello(m): 9:04am On Dec 08, 2017
@npowerng, what are the KPIs of this N-Power programme and what are your successes so far? Like how many beneficiaries have transitioned to full employment or started private businesses within the past year? What hope do potential beneficiaries have beyond the monthly stipend? Is it not possible for the candidates to be posted to sectors closely related to their fields? Posting science and engineering graduates to schools to me is unproductive, extended NYSC. By the end of the program many people have become unemplyeable in terms of graduation year and age limits as we are currently experiencing in the country. I still have my reservations for this program because all I can think of is what I can do with the stipend and other resources available to reposition myself within or after the program.

I may be out of the race... Not first time. Most applicants will have to bow out at some points. Life's race never ends. But you guys are just being crazy like you know nothing about life. What am I even saying, it's a faceless forum.
Say, I go with the more plausible conjecture that only those with access to their portals have made the go, how will you feel after being so inconsiderate and tormenting others, you didn't even get to the gates of DPR? You advise people to move own but I'll advise everyone to carry on with their lives as if DPR may not enter their dream's space. Some of us have visions that are quite greater and better than DPR. Not to mention that DPR is the craziest recruitment process I've ever been in.
Let's maintain decorum, please! But if you think your life is so miserable that it's only nairaland that gives you solace, continue fooling yourself.

Scholastica16:
If the department recommended is related to yours, they would accept you. If not, they could still reject you. ETS only sold your profile to those schools for money so the search service is not binding on them if you catch my drift.

Anyways, you can, because of this, check for your course in the school. It might indicate that they have sufficient funding and will accept you. Earlier the better.
Thanks Scholastica, their deadline is actually Jan 5. The only research area Imma consider is environmental physics cos I even check their earth science dept but no specialization in exploration geophysics.
Please how do I get my recommenders to respond asap? I tried pre-informing them about a week to the school sending request, called and mailed like twice thereafter but no response over two weeks now, only excuses. And every time they will be giving assurances. Sir, I will need your help for some series of applications.... No problem, anytime. Mehn I'm scared. Is that your experience. What's the go around?

Modified
I no it could be hectic though. I remember helping one of my guys in US now to get LoR. I had to go meet the lecturer, open his email and complete the online recommendation form my self.

Please do anyone have experience applying through contacts from GRE search service? How does that help in your admission process? Got a mail from the physics and astronomy graduate program director at UCR to apply but my interest is in geophysics. So, enticing because it's straight PhD and funding is available for all graduate students. I have MSc in geophysics already and wanna pursue that line.

DreManuel:
Brotherman,

Congratulations on your scores.

I just wish to make few suggestions, and I'm assuming you are applying for fall 2018.

My first take is that your "Why" has to be very strong, and that will take care of the "Who", "Where" and "When". That means you would know the exact thing you want to research on or focus on in your field, and the potential professors or departments/schools that can deliver that. Then you can create a shortlist. Any school, however prestigious it may be, that won't address your "Why" can always be struck off. But you will have to sit put and do a lot of personal research.

Once you've identified potential supervisors or schools, then your next step is to introduce yourself to them. You would have to tell a great story here based on your "Why" and your work/academic history. If you make a good impression, they will respond to you and will usually tell you if they have funding or not and other avenues you can explore. If a professor doesn't respond even after you follow up with your mail, that's a sign that you are not likely needed by the professor. You either move to the next professor of interest in the school or next school on your list. Note: However stellar your grades are, if there are no professors willing to take you on in a school, you are most likely wasting your money and time applying. And a corollary to this is that the question of whether a school is ambitious or not would be answered. Personally, almost all the schools that gave me admissions with financial aids had their professors respond favourably to me. On one occasion, one opened up that I was one of his picks. One another occasion - though I didn't apply eventually - the professor encouraged me to apply and while he said he won't make promises, he felt I would be competitive for funding based on the info I supplied to him in my introductory mail. I could go on...

Based on the responses you've gotten from above, you can narrow your list further to the schools you should apply to. Those are the ones you should really focus on. Others can follow.

In a nutshell, put in the hard work to research many schools based on your program, and reach out to potential supervisors, other things can follow.
Thank you so much bro... I have started action on researching and I'll take the next step by narrowing down, not to waste funds on unnecessary applications. Thanks once more.
