CareerRe: Is 80k A Bad Salary? The Story Of Seyi Of UBA by athorello(m): 9:14am On Nov 02, 2019
bakynes:
I earn 90k salary in a month but i usually have runs within the field i work which earns me close to my salary. Besides the 90k is my Net pay which is my take home but my Gross is about 170k every month which is been taxed( income tax), Pension and housing savings which is paid to me every year in lump sum. I also earn incentives some months and get 15,000 naira worth of company products every month that i sell also. Give or take every month i take home 180k which is excluding my Pension. Most Government workers earn small salary but the runs is what gives them real money.

In the case of Seyi, contract staff in Banks dont earn nothing extra thats the disadvantage except a customer decides to dash them money.
Actually the bank is the best place to earn 80k.
I don't know of UBA but in some banks, contract staff get overtime, atm duties, and leave bonuses, etc.

Then add, illegits like pecks from customers and extra runs in some units, links with BDCs, yahoo boys, etc.

Also, the average pay to full time bankers is cool, add allowances and bonuses, profit sharing in some banks, a banker will do very well, easily venture into business or relocate to Canada through dedicated savings.
There's always mass exodus in banking that's one main reason they're always recruiting.
CareerRe: Is 80k A Bad Salary? The Story Of Seyi Of UBA by athorello(m): 8:51am On Nov 02, 2019
The only thing I'll say is that a smart UBA contract staff earning N80k monthly can make more than that extra, add side businesses, etc he'll even gross over 200k monthly.
One had transitioned the contracts staff ranks from messenger or delivery man, services to marketing/sales over the years. And he sabi the thing. Used the so called 70k to train his siblings, gf and himself, currently doing his masters and recently moved to a permanent role in a new bank with pay almost 4x times of where he was.
But I can't be that first class guy o.

8. Lie
If you've been trying to get a job for so long without any luck. Now is the time to lie. Include experiences from made up firms. Or include well known companies but tell your friends to act like your former supervisor when HR calls.

This was the way I got my first Job, I lied that I had internships and jobs at Fortune 500 companies in the UK. I had a relative pose as my manager. The recruiter actually called this guy in the UK to confirm, my guy used his posh british accent to convince the recruiter and that was how I got that sweet job. Needless to say, I have never traveled to the UK before.
PACKAGE!
Who will invite you for a test or interview when what they're looking for isn't on your CV.

We have some undergraduate and fresh graduates interns with us and their eyes are opening everyday with the way people are moving jobs.
Two of my guys have run this fictitious company and job, one posing as the former manager. (I like foreign companies sha).
The other one is to EMBELLISH... Blow every little experience at of proportion. Who's going to verify if you actually worked in that company for 3 months or 3 years. Use one of your buddies there as contact.
Give instances (real or not) of how you've employed your skills and knowledge now matter how little you think you know. Unless you're not smart at all.
Preparing for TESTS and INTERVIEWS: Get ready to discuss one key experience and guide the discussion to top 2 or 3 skills you have and are necessary for the role. They just wanna hear what you can do.
The best way to prepare for test and interviews is to connect with an insider who also passed through the same process. Also network with other applicants and previous candidates (both successful and unsuccessful) for the role.
True life story (this happens frequently), company Bleep interviewed candidate, Smart, and he said everything HR and MD wanted to hear. MD even said in passing that he feel Smart was prep for the interview but he doesn't mind.
Another line that has worked for me, get to know current operations and new opportunities the company is aiming to capture. You only need to demonstrate good knowledge in those areas now matter your skill gap, you might be the closest match candidate.

Nigerians should just drop the use of the world ramifications.
White folks get amazed the way we use big big words without understanding.

Ramifications loosely means the unintended bad consequences (evil branches) of an action.

Same way we wrongly use the word, opportune.

The conference was an opportune (appropriate, right) time to speak on gender equity.

Christianity EtcRe: The Bible Does Not Support Drinking Alcohol, Don't Let Anyone Fool You by athorello(m): 1:21pm On Sep 09, 2019
Death by the Greek. Slight variations of the word (methuó) were used in your cited scriptures and different from the variation used in John 2:10 (drunk used here isn't the same as drunken used in the other passages).

Bible still didn't outrightly condemn drinking alcohol. But wisdom is profitable to direct. Peace!

TVSA:
Late comer, learn to follow the thread before you jump to conclusion like an elementary school pupil. Your assumption that "drunk" in this passage is the past participle of "drink" is fallacious at best. Let me help you.
"Drunk" in that passage is from the original Greek lexicon, "methuo"

Word: μεθύω
Transliteration: methuó
Phonetic Spelling: (meth-oo'-o)
Definition: to be drunken
Usage: I am intoxicated with wine, am drunk.

It means to be intoxicated. It was used in other places like

Matthew 24:49 KJV
And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;

1 Corinthians 11:21 KJV
For in eating every one taketh before other his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken.

Acts 2:15 KJV
For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.

1 Thessalonians 5:7 KJV
For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.

All the words in bold are from the same Greek word "methuo". Which means to be intoxicated
Or all the places also mean past participle of "drinking water"? grin grin

TVSA:
John 2:10 KJV
And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.

English is hard for some people. What made the men drunk? is it not the good wine they drank? Or you want to tell us the "drunk" isn't intoxication? grin grin
Learn English first, the "drunk" there is the past participle of "drink" like when you've drunk water. Good (expensive) wine, bad (cheap) wine, not necessarily the alcohol content. If I'm to even follow your baseless logic, good wine should be strong wine. undecided

@op, So drink offering was actually Shnapps. Learning everyday. Proverbs is not the law. Common sense even tells you that alcoholism is bad.

I'm a pentecostal but most of you are on over drive. You know Bible more than catholics and JW. I even believe that the wine used for the passover/Lord's super/communion was even alcoholic. Else, how could some get drunk from the communion wine?
PoliticsRe: P&ID $9bn Judgement Debt: P&ID Gas Contract Was Not Approved, Says Aondooakaa by athorello(m): 9:07pm On Aug 31, 2019
Someone need to learn more about JVs and PSCs. The PSCs run for offshore assets don't even favour the FG. FG and the IOCs are always working ways to sort out the counterpart funding issues, hence cash calls that the govt also defaulted in before PMB administration is now clearing them under low oil price regime.
What's been proposed for the JV set up now is the IJVC (an independent JV company).

blujoi:
You are welcome buddy. SPV’s are legal and it’s regularly used by investors all the time. My point in all this is, 1) The project was not a scam. It was meant to benefit Nigeria 2) We are in this situation due to complacency and incompetence by Nigerians in government at all levels. 3) The P&ID guys decided to cash out on our incompetence. I used the JV agreements IOC’s have with the Nigerian government which they never get to fulfill their own part. The IOC’s decided to come up with the PSC concept since the FG will never do their own part, making us lose millions daily.
PoliticsRe: P&ID $9bn Judgement Debt: P&ID Gas Contract Was Not Approved, Says Aondooakaa by athorello(m): 8:59pm On Aug 31, 2019
Perfect solution to what?

You need to understand the dynamics of gas flaring. Although some gas flaring is a necessity, the gas market (export and domestic) has evolved to the extent that the big oil and gas companies are repositioning to become gas companies.

So the current realities would have made fulfilling the contracts term counterproductive to any IOC that signed up or guaranteed the P&ID contract.

However, I still doubt the capacity of Addax back then given that they're still young comparatively in the Nigerian space and just at the back of a new acquisition.

The contract no gel at all. Some people knew something and wanted to cash on it.

blujoi:
Let me give you a little background. The Nigerian government had planned to reduce gas flares by the IOC’s. Gas flares are wasted gas which occurs during exploration and production activities by the IOC’s. The plan was to capture this flared gas and pipe it to a gas gathering facility where it will be processed and supplied to the independent gas plants. Addax was already producing in one of the OML’s around the Cross River area. It was decided that the first phase of the gas treatment and gathering project would take place using the gas flared from the Addax operation. On paper it’s a perfect solution, but unfortunately the major facilitator of the company that was going to do the project died. This is a case of incompetence on the Nigerian side and the guys in P&ID decided to cash in on our incompetence.
PoliticsRe: P&ID $9bn Judgement Debt: P&ID Gas Contract Was Not Approved, Says Aondooakaa by athorello(m): 9:53am On Aug 31, 2019
Addax, eh... Smh undecided

What was their capacity/asset size as at the time of signing the contract? Remember, they're running a Production Sharing Contract (PSC) with the FG. Within this time the Addax has been acquired by Sinopec. I wonder the type of guaranty they could have given back then.

This clearly shows that the project was designed to fail ab initio.

I smell SCAM! But incompetence and lack of making a case from the outset of this administration has brought us this deep into poo.

I hope that the scam is unraveled.

blujoi:
Please nobody is happy that our country is being dragged in the international space, yes we should be patriotic does that mean one shouldn't call a spade a spade?

Aondokaa is being clever by half and trying to be sensational. Do oil projects get signed off by the FEC?

I just went through an article by an investigative journalist team who got access to the court documents and i will try my best to breakdown my deductions. Forget about all this APC/PDP blame game

The project was conceptualized under OBJ and the aim of the project was to gather the gas that IOC's flare into a system and use those gathered gas to power gas plants all over the country

Rilwan Lukman was the major facilitator for P&ID who assured them that they will get the contract

P&ID went ahead to procure licenses, engaged international contractors to come up with designs for the project, this they say cost them money

An investment vehicle for the project was duly registered in Nigeria, where Nigeria had a 5% shareholding and also a representative on the board of P&ID

After series of meetings, it was decided the project would be located in Cross river, and Addax petroleum agreed to supply the gas to P&ID for processing

Based on Addax agreeing to supply the gas, the FG signed the 20 year agreement with P&ID

After series of back and forth, by now Yar Adua was in power, Addax reneged on the earlier agreement on the type of gas and timing of the supply

P&ID were still willing to work with what Addax said they would provide

Addax still failed to meet up, I think at this time GEJ was in power and Diezani was asked to ensure Addax complies

After a whole lof delays and frustrations, P&ID wrote to the FG that they were no longer interested and subsequently took the case to the international court of arbitration who decided that UK courts would be the location to hear the case

This was where they came to agree to pay a compensation of $850m

Then comes in the PMB and his team, no one paid any attention to the ruling due to non-nomination of a substantial minister to take charge

And the rest is history

The whole episode is a good example of the incompetency of the people in authority. From top to bottom. the project was meant to guarantee power to the gas plants but at the end of the day, the Nigerian factor came to play!!
PoliticsRe: Gas Dispute: Creditors May Go After Nigeria’s Eurobond Custodian by athorello(m): 7:14am On Aug 17, 2019
This is blood money. Innoson vs GTB comes to mind.

GEJ failed to deliver on a contract, the entire project was stalled yet this P&ID want to be paid the amount they're supposed to earn for the 20 years period of the contract.

A litigation ensued. The immediate past president, as reported, reached an agreement to pay $1b settlement towards the end of the administration but got cold feets because incoming Buhari may termed it as money laundry. (story for the gods).

Stubborn Buhari came and saw the claim as preposterous, decided to review it and the case lingered for this long and got this bad.

PMB must now be more proactive to stay Nigeria's position to cushion the impact on the economy.
PoliticsRe: Buhari’s Food Importation Ban Could Drag The Nigerian Economy Into Misery by athorello(m): 7:41pm On Aug 15, 2019
The truth is local production of agric crops and livestocks are increasing with massive supports from the FG through CBN. Prices have fallen across board too. Rice farming isn't as lucrative as 2 years ago (I have friends who were boasting of 50-100% profits). I was doing 100% ROI with a farmers group but currently we're looking at ~30% p.a which is still cool. Profitabikity in agric is fast moving from farming to processing. Many farms are springing up regardless of the crises last year and the herders-farmers clashes, making prices to fall. With more investment in processing, prices will fall further. I can't pinpoint a product that has increased in price since the last recession.
Let's become less lazy and encourage urban Nigerians to invest in agric. Sponsor your peeps in rural Nigeria and encourage the jobless to key in. Nigerian rice are getting to almost premium quality that we can now abandon the foreign ones.
You can't build up local capacity without stifling imports. This will engender increased demand for domestic produce, more investments, improved quality, profitability in the short run and price equilibration in the long run. The agric sector really need that push.

You still wonder why people are steep to the rough end of life. In my last visit to Ikoyi prison, one of the awaiting trial imates was advising us that there isn't good at all, and we should try as much as possible to avoid crime. Sometimes last year, one of my classmates from secondary school called me out of the blues to inform me that he's been languishing in Ogwashukwu prison for over a year. According to him, the whole family has abandoned him and he's dying of hunger. When I dug deeper, I found out he's been held as an armed robbery suspect.
