So I took the GRE 28th of last month here in PH.
Results summary:
Verbal: 157
Quant: 160
AWA: 4

Shockingly, I scored exactly 317 on my second powerprep test 3 days to my test date. I was only able to increase my score by 7 points from my first diagnostic test. Anyway, it was only God who helped me pull through because after totally breaking down for two weeks and getting better two weeks to test date, I discovered that I've lost some things. I just couldn't answer some question types like inferences and logic. Hmm! Including mixing up some subtle maths concepts. OK... What did I do? I gave up on relearning anything. I made a decision to work on my speed and tested that with the 2nd powerprep test. In the end, I scored 156 in verbal and 161 in Quant. While reviewing, I found out that most of my first gueses that I changed in the verbal were actually right (but I always have the challenge and fell for three trap in the actual test). In the quant I got all 20 questions right in the first session and 15/20 in the 2nd.
I had a funny run down to the test.

But my advice...
1. Please try as much as possible to eat something (my first mistake)
2. Take any medication you have to take for any challenge or pains (I went with my drugs but couldn't take them cos of doctor's warning not to take the medication without food)
3. Get as much water (I had finished 2 sachet and almost 1 Eva bottle before check in. Had to beg them to let me go outside the gate to get more water)
4. Pray it doesn't rain all day... Lol
5. Try to be as fast as possible. I was able to go through and review all my verbal answers with speed. I had 3 quant sessions. In two of them, I had 5 and 3 mins left respectively to review my responses and I was sure of not failing more than 1-2 questions per session. For one of the quant sessions, my time expired just before I will submit the answer to number 20 so no time to even review the questions I marked.
Finally, village people almost entered the hall but God pass them. I was noticeably the only one with challenges. Back pains and general body weakness that I'll always rest flat on the desk every second I had to rest before and during the test. My system froze like 4 times during my last two quant sessions. The system was restarted, I was logged back on and the next time it will freeze the screen displayed an Error message so they had to assign a new system.
But when I saw my final scores I was just laughing and smiling. God pass them.

This post is irrelevant... 2-3 out of 5 first class graduates will find their way out of the country, one way or another. Even those who intended to settle in lecturing jobs still find their way after a short while. On the long run, most first class end up very well unless the village influence thick well well. Overall, Nigerian bred Profs are weak weak but those with foreign or mixed touch are doing great in their fields. Many Profs and their students have brought ideas or solutions that only govt or major major coys can fund or buy.
So the roots of the challenges is what needs to be assayed.
Speaking as a first class, all I'm seeking for are good research programs in especially the americas and middle east that will pay u a bunch comparable to what your folks are earning in the IOCs.

I need advice on how best to slow down and tackle some huge challenges with my practice. After I heard a wicked fever, I'm having a challenge with my practice especially verbal. I discovered that I'm missing things like "not" and time contrasts every e.g, "...at that time" in TC and SC, making me to choose the completely opposite answers most times. Also sometimes I missed highlighted texts questions in RC because it might be asking the question in relation to the entire passage and I'm overly critical. Funny enough, most answers that comes to me first time are correct even in RC but I guess there's paralysis by analysis afterall.
So, I need advice, test less than 3 weeks away.

What and what do I need to attach to my introduction mail to potential supervisors?

Most students from those schools are smoking guns... You must be a 4 pointer to start with and majority graduate with distinction (speaking for especially IPS and CoE). Oh, the main courses or modules are taught by the same lecturers. You'll hear stuffs like I was in the field with IPS students last week, I taught this same module at AUST last week, etc and lots of comparisons.

Bros, you're kinda wrong. You must pass written tests and oral interviews before you enter any of those schools-- no sort of fast tracking. And not all students are lucky to be sponsored. You're only advised to apply for ptdf as you're making plans to apply for admission. However, it's easier to get ptdf while you're already on the program. Possible explanation is that those centers normally send a list to ptdf (I'm aware of that) and if a tangible number of students have got the award on their own before coming in (their names won't be sent), the rest stands a better chance. That's how a full set of students may be ptdf sponsored. I think ptdf have a separate budget for those centers.

Some schools are strict about it: if you do not have the TOEFL they would not consider your application complete. Whilst some others are flexible and could let it slide for English-speaking countries like ours.

If you are adamant about not writing the TOEFL, then you must apply to schools that are flexible about it or else, they would not process your application. University of Utah and Houston are 2 of such schools that would not process your application without the TOEFL.

But if you have the resources, still take the TOEFL. It bolsters the application and it could earn you that TA/GA especially when only hairs split your profile from another applicant's.

Won't IELTS do? Considering those if us who wants to widen our horizons to include UK, Canada, Australia, etc.

Now unto my GRE experience.....
I paid for the exam with MAFIT in January but only registered in mid July mainly due to a demanding PPA as I only passed out in may.....

I started with the Kaplan book and took time to go through the strategies for the different sections.....
I must say the Kaplan book doesn't give allot of question that depicts GRE difficulty levels but it's a good tool to learn strategies especially in taking calculated guess or word inferences.....
After that i did the practise tests in both the verbal and quantitative official guides ....
And there I got to confirm what I already knew.. RCs were my Achilles heel in VR...the TCs and SE were difficult when I found arcane words....
Then in QR baring some lapses in polygons and permutation questions I was fine when I avoided silly mistakes.....
I discovered the best bet was to practise and practise and practise....
I took some magosh tests....
Then I took kaptest (Kaplan software)... Software and navigation just like power prep.... 10 sets if timed verbal and quant test....
Through the practise test I was able to learnt allot of GRE word as I'm not good at memorizing words in isolation....
I took some tests in Manhattan 5lb books and learnt a lot of words from there too......
Learning words from dffernet sources of practise tests and then revising them with the different word group in the Kaplan book helped me develop my vocab ......
The Manhattan 5lb book also helped me develop faster ways in attacking qr....
Then I went tru the magoosh videos and a couple other videos I got...
The magoosh videos were excellent to say the least... They develop ur strategy where vocabs can't bail you out (unfortunately though i got them close to my exams) nevertheless they were helpful....
For AWA I went tru videos ..develop my templates... Did some practise and sent to a friend to critique... Eventually I was comfortable with the timing...
I also skimmed tru all the topics I the issue pool(as it WS harder for me) and a few argument topics...

Wrote the exam on the 11 August
Nerves got better of me at the beginning o..lol...
I had to tell myself to call down sef...
Nonetheless the issue topic was what the doctor ordered .,.infact I finished faster than any practise test.. Had time to correct typos and all...was looking for GRE words to put on between and vary sentence structures but the words couldn't just come.....
Argument too was cool....
By then nerves had calmed and I felt better...
Had VQVQV...
Verbal was cool.didn't really encounter b strange words comprehension were my points of contention...did TC,SE then Comprehension lasts...
Quant OK too...harder than practise tests but i felt ok(as I'm typically comfortable with maths)...
All in all score came out..
Vr-157.. Qr-162.. Awa-4...
Expected a lot better especially in qr but perhaps I made silly mistakes....

Mathano was the friend I got after the exam..we exchanged scores ..shakes hands and left.... Great guy
Now I know our essay topics were the same sef...

PS: for those guys writing tomorrow, for tonight strengthen your basics..revise and decide your essay templates and pacing strategies.... The nerves will come definitely but see it as one last practise test and you'll be fine.

I've not seen anything on the Op's list but I recently got GOT (S01 - S07E01). Fear no let me open am o. My usual fear of dedicating half of a day to a season times the number of seasons.

Any remedy for my 1tb seagate expansion hdd that's refused to pick up? Light blinks, vibrations but fails to stabilize.

I have an issue with some unnecessary questions here. Every info has been rightly passed here from day one of the dpr test.
Meanwhile, while some guys whose statuses are "still pending" have the mettle to go to the testing centers some spinless rubs will be sitting behind their phones only to ask stupid questions.

One key info was that test in ph would be from 24th to 27th and there was enough concerns to make anyone recheck his/her profile. I later discovered that most people I reached out to were actually rescheduled and notified via email/sms. But thanks to those who went to protest at Moscow road, the test resumed around 12:30pm yesterday.

Secondly, if this thread is your sole source of info, you should have know that people were attended to at the test center regardless of their schedule whether missed or yet to write. Your part was to come up with a cogent excuse.
Anyway, all these are going to the past now but it's better to be proactive if you really want something.
Let grace, quota system or connection have its way.

If charity takes 10%, total profit is #1583.33
Whereas for 5%, the profit is #1500.

This test is no cogent aptitude test. The only part that involved tangible reasoning are the analogy and number series. And this thread has been a blessing to the late test takers. If some of us have this amount of info pre test, it would have been play. Chai!
And the irony is that the more scholars from your state the higher your odds of getting called to the next stage.

Haaaa! Kaplan be making GRE look like child's play whereas Manhattan will be showing you red flags.

Please guys in PHC should give updates.
But from my findings from those I contacted show that they (28/29th) where rescheduled for 25/26th even got sms to that effect but just neglected. Meanwhile, someone from the first batch or so posted it here that PHC will be closed by 27th. So who's to blame now?

Na wa o.... The info was rightly circulated then. No wonder they were attending to everyone who came regardless of your schedule. I even heard them asking someone people who are still pending to wait. You guys, should also confirm if everyone slated for 28-29th were rescheduled as reported by some. Of a truth, this thread constitute a very small percentage of the test takers.

I believe you'll be allowed to write no matter your schedule. Secondly, I don't know why they're asking those who came with slips showing "pending successful submission" to wait but one of the DPR officials said it's going to be a long wait.
But, mehn the logic wan play person o... So based on logistics, we used logic to demystify the logic. Oluwa have mercy. I finished with about 15 mins left and had enough time to review all my answers twice.

Abeg I didn't crack the last maths question (paraphrasing) on the guy who wants to invest his savings in banks A and B whose interest rates are in the ratio 5:4. I have forgotten the exact question but we were asked to find the ratio he'll have to save to earn equal half yearly rate or so.
